Still, 8M+ per year for a player who hits homers and not much else to crow about its somewhat of a high asking price. Konerko is called slightly above average at 1B, but I consider him merely average defensivly...an 8M+ 1B needs to be above avg on the defensive side as well as hit the long balls (which Konerko does). Fact is, on a team like the Sox, where the money is spread all around, we have no room for guys making 15M like Magglio, et al...which is why they are gone. And it's why we are winning. Balance. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 06:59 AM) Interesting that the players and coaches voted him #2. I tend to believe the player votes more than the fan votes. It is impossible to compare player contracts. When Lee signed his, he wasn't an All-Star. Do you think if he was negotiating today he would have the same contract? Plus each contract goes through stages where players are under paid then over paid. It is rare when a contract exactly matches what a player is "worth".

Who knows how to make them/who can help me make a good one? I'm almost going to get promoted to AA on this board soon (at least I hope, I've been in high-A for far too long), so I figure it's time to get a real signature now... I want a signature with Thomas and Podsednik with the word power somewhat transparant over Thomas and the word speed transparant over Pods, and at the bottom or something, I want it to say '4 teh win!' So who can help...I'll buy you beers all night at a Sox game if you make me a good one.

In that case, to you, too.

Konerko is good, and a great guy from what I hear, but he is not worth a dime more than we are paying Dye...and right now I believe Konerko is making about 3 or 4 million MORE than Dye is... Konerko is worth about 5M per year. I think he makes more than Derek Lee who is not only a great hitter, but has speed and is the best defensive 1B in the game. Depending on Konerkos asking price is the deciding factor to keep him or let him go.

How do I sign up then?

Much He's having a resurgant year with the Sox...glad to see he's returning to form!

I wouldn't touch Everyday Eddie with a 10 foot pole. He has a frayed labrum and is close to an extended stay on the DL after major surgery to repair it. Jim Parque was the last person with a frayed labrum...and what did he lose...like 8mph from all of his pitches after it was reconstructed? No thanks...Guardado guarschmado.

Earlier in the year, before the baseball season kicked off, I asked about interest from the loyal supporters of Soxtalk.com about an outing at our favorite ballpark to see our favorite team and drink our favorite beer...or soda for you underagers. ...so is anyone interested in getting something like this together? We could find a future game and buy out a bunch of seats in the outfield above the bullpen or something and meet each other in person...after all, this place is becoming more like a family and all.

I liked this trade from the start. I sometimes think we should go back to the original trade thread and see some of you whiners crying about losing Lee and gaining nothing. to all of you.
-
Everyone has bad starts...hopefully Contreras finally realized that he needs to show that fastball otherwise they will sit back and wait on his hanging forks.
-
Doesn't look like a bad lineup, but I have to say I'd rather lose one of the Cubans and get anothe top flight starter...but that's just me. And I think Timo should be promoted to starting batboy.

Yea, they say in his scouting report that despite the fact he has a 98-100mph fastball, that his curveball is his best pitch. After seeing that curve, which he doesn't use a lot...I have to say I'm impressed. If he can gain a little more control over that fastball, he can be dominant...easily.

PODS RULES! As for piracy, I'll soap box this one. Starting with there are no good quality version of Batman Begins out there...they are all crap. I only like DVD quality rips...not to mention I actually paid to see it at the movies. As for music piracy...piracy has and always will exist and they will NOT stop it, not the RIAA not the MPAA, none of them, EVER. Most artists seem to become millionaires/make good money anyway, so big f'ing deal if their stuff gets stolen, at least it's being listened too...they can go cry me a river. Also, piracy does not stop people from actually purchasing quality, especially now that you can buy music by the song when you only want the one hit wonder rather than their entire crappy album. As for software and movie piracy, same thing...more often than not, piracy is conducted by those who cannot afford it, IE, college/high school students, etc. I was once what you'd call a world ranked pirate in the BBS/beginning of the internet days -- now I buy almost all of my software since I have the money to do so. :finger QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) Any problems with film piracy? I downloaded Batman Begins last night...

Join the fight against online music piracy? Hahah. I know your serious and all...but...hahaha. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) If he is half as exciting as Buehrle and Garland on the Dan Patrick show yesterday, we are all in for a serious treat.

LOL QUOTE(mreye @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) Yeah, screw your future. This is important!

So are Scott Podsednik and Carl Crawford. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) Willie Harris is a speedster, Corey Patterson is a speedster, Preston Wilson is a speedster...

Hopefully Jenks comes in with lead in the 6th...who knows which Contreras will show up tonight. I've been waiting to see a Sox pitcher hit 99-100mph on the gun for years...would be nice to see Jenks do it.

Are Devil Rays technically a "fish"?! When I saw the topic and it said Fillet the Fish, I was like...are we playing the marlins?!

Because they can get a lot for Lidge in the meantime, and Lidge will command a very high salary when he hits free agency. Houston is old, and by old I mean VERY old, and they are entering a rebuilding phase, they cannot pay the price for Lidge while trying to move toward a youth movement because by the time that youth is seasoned enough to make a run, Lidge may be worthless to them. Right now the can get a TON for Lidge. I still say we run for Wagner, it's pretty clear he is unhappy where he is and they wouldn't mind unloading him. Wagner doesn't have much longer with how he throws at his age and he wants to win now. He wouldn't refuse a trade to the Sox. Smart money is on a blockbuster deal to aquire Wagner, he can put us over the top. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 08:09 AM) Forget about Lidge. He is young and makes chump change. Why would they get rid of him?

I'm not so sure Schmidt is a great idea unless we get him for almost nothing. His velocity is down from 98 to around 92 and he has a history of shoulder issues. I wouldn't even say it's due to overuse as most Sox pitchers have pitched more innings the past few years then Schmidt has. I believe Schmidt has some sort of degenerative cartalage problem which has been a long time coming. If we can get him at a bargin (ie, hardly giving up anything) then we should do it, he can hardly be any worst than Contreras AND on the upside, Schmidt may regain that velocity (as he has markedly improved the past few weeks before his debacle yesterday). In either case, I'd sooner want to aquire Billy Wagner or Brad Lidge to lock down the 9th, as of late our closers worry me, and Hermanson has gotten extremely lucky the past few outings. In Detroit, those balls hit to the warning track would have been out of any other park, and we subsequently would have lost those games, not won them. I think we need an elite closer that can strike fear into the opponent and press them to score BEFORE the 9th inning comes around. And I know every closer blows saves, but that is not the point...opponents do not fear Hermansons 90mph fastball...but if they see Wagner warming up, they will go into emergency mode in the 8th inning and maybe do something stupid...I mean, as a hitter, who would you rather face...a Hermanson with slightly better than average stuff or a Wagner who can hit 101mph and then drop it down into the 70s?! Besides, a 4th/5th starter will be meaningless in the playoffs, so unless we get someone BETTER than Garland/Garcia, aquiring a starter isn't the right thing to do, and right now Schmidt is NOT better than Garland or Garcia. Wagner wants out, and I think we should make a run at him...he also has an attitude tha would fit with the southsiders. -y2

You should superimpose Jurassic between them to break up that smooch.
