  1. QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) See, you guys don't get to see everything...here is the entire picture: Willie: I'm losing my job to this guy?!?!?!? Iguchi: *insert Japanese stuff here*
  2. Meh, didn't even notice that. QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) The australia factor might be a problem.
  3. Then who's kid is it? I always just assumed it was yours. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) I love my avatar too. I should my it my permanent avatar. I only wish it was my kid...well, I do and I dont.
  4. Perhaps I've just not been here long enough...but what reasons? QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Well I'm exempt for obvious reasons.
  5. As many questionmarks we have on this team, the Twins has just as many, so I'm not worried about it, I just want to see a team go out and give it their all, EVERY day, not take days off because they're lazy. If they give me that, I'll be happy. -y2
  6. Youngsters. QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) Well I am 20 and I think many are in my age range.
  7. Wow, I figured many of you were older than that. Though I do look about 20 in person. QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) Haha, well I meant that everyone (including me) are too young to drink....legally ...but thats a good point too.
  8. I nominate your baby picture avatar as the Sox player rep. NOBODY would be screwing with our team then. That is the greatest pic of a baby of all time. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) Kenny Lofton was a player rep too, or was atleast at the meetings. s***, Cheat beat me to the Timo line
  9. Well since I'll be 30 this summer, I think I'm of drinking/driving age. Besides, I walk to the games since I live in the same neighborhood...so no drinking/driving for me! QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) I love the few beers part...I bet many people here couldn't even drive to the game.
  10. Schoeneweis was a whining baby on the Angles and he was a whining baby on the Sox the second he didn't get his way. Him being the player rep in and of itself shows why we did not win last year when we needed too. I'm SO happy he is no longer with this team. He has a few good starts and he suddenly thinks he's the Rocket...he starts getting hit and says he feels as if he's throwing even harder but for some reason he's being hit...well, perhaps because they're adjusting to your predictibility and you're not adjusting to them. Good riddance...and welcome MB...a REAL player rep. -y2 QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) According to WhiteSox.com he is the new player rep. The last one was Schoeneweis.
  11. A lot of it could have to do with this worlds shallow view on what makes a person a person. Some might not be able to afford the best cloths, or look the best, etc...so they are afraid they will not be accepted...I get that, but it's nonsense. I grew up in Bridgeport before this sudden explosion of property value/northsider like invasion...so I know what it's like to grow up without money. Doesn't make you less of a person. I think if you make people feel comfortable around you in a sincere way, that's what being a good person is all about. -y2 QUOTE(Beastly @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) I agree with you! There are others that won't agree with it.
  12. WH: YOU JAPANESE MOTHERF#@!ING SON OF A B!#%H. TI: This is how you field ground ball. WH: WELL WHOOP-DE-FRICKIN'-DO...AT LEAST I KNOW HOW TO DIP!
  13. I don't understand it...big deal, so you meet some people and have a few beers together...what's the big deal. Having different opinions about baseball and our favorite team is part of being a fan...it doesn't have to lead to real life conflict and fights. We are a community of fans, online...I see nothing wrong with meeting some people at the park...it's pretty safe there with about a ton of people! QUOTE(Beastly @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) Look, theres a thing about meeting people, and I understand that... But you know, there would probably be some people who want to discuss baseball without a tense atmosphere, as sometimes there is something here. It would be best if this was in May, I think.
  14. Yes, judgeing by how many peeps viewed this message without replying to it tells me not many are interested...seems the Soxtalk.com peeps like hiding behind monitors. QUOTE(Beastly @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) That'd be sweet. I've wanted to do this before but who listens to Beastly... Boyer would probably get us real discounted seats too!
  15. Was wondering if any of the Soxtalk.com "peep-u-lation" would care to plan a weekend game where we can all meet and take over the outfield above the bullpen? Not sure who would be interested, but since I live in bport and have parking passes, I can help out with those for a few of you who don't. Of course this is probably something you all do every year, but I've never been a part of it, so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in such a thing.
  16. Do you mean like last year? It wasn't even called the #5 slot on the Sox, it was called the black hole of the bottomless void of death and decay. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) Garland is about all we need out of the #5 spot. He could be the reason we win the division this year. Having 5 solid starters is really underrated.
  17. Perhaps I'm just a bit too old, but "The Gooch" was the name of the bully on Diff'rent Strokes in the early 80's...and it's a terrible nickname for a Japanese player. Besides, nicknames "happen", they usually aren't thought up in a predetermined method. Like my nicknames for people at Comisky...in the outfield, there is this beer guy who has long hair...hence I why I call him "HEY LONG HAIRED BEER GUY, OVER HERE!" Then there is the Steak Pita stand in right field...those are the "PITA PEEPS". Let's wait for Iguchi to do something to deserve a nickname before we give him one...for all we know he will fail and we will end up calling him Tada-NO-HIT-o. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) Gooch just seems to fit.
  18. I agree...every season it's the same thing. "Jon Garland will turn the corner, this will be the season Jon Garland becomes an ace, blah blah blah", is what I hear -- year after year -- only he doesn't "turn the corner" and remains the same pitcher he's always been. He's perfect for the #4 or #5 slot...he will keep you in the game as long as you score a few runs and along the way he will turn in a few dominant performances. As long as Garland wins 10+ games per year, I have no problem having him as a #4 or #5 pitcher...no problem at all. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) I kind of think it is funny, personally, about how many people have somewhat high expectations early in the season, and then realize that Garland is not much more then a mediocre pitcher. The best I think you will ever see from Garland is what you saw from Jason Marquis this year. I'd take that though
  19. Personally, I think this rotation is under-rated specifically because of El Duque's ability to avoid injury and a few others inability to remain consistant. I think we will be better than most expect, top to bottom, especially since our pen has more reliable pitchers in it now. Is Contraras a head case? Yes...but he's still better than most #3 pitchers in baseball. Is El Duque an injury case? Yes...but when healthy, he's an ace quality pitcher bred for the big -- must win situation -- games. Is Jon Garland inconsistant? Actually, he's as consistant as a pitcher can get...do Sox fans believe he is better than he is, yes...but consistancy isn't the question. Garland is better than most #4 and #5 pitchers in baseball...he's going to win 10+ games and turn in a few dominant outings with an ERA somehwhere in the 4.5+ range. We also do not have to deal with Koch blowing a good number of games for a half season this time, either. -y2
  20. And if I recall correctly, Takatsu pitched like that (not very well) throughout all of spring training last year, almost not making the final roster, yet when the real games started he was lights out. Orlando Hernandez is built for the big game, why waste stuff in batting practice at the very beginning of spring training before your arm is even warmed up? -y2 QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) I wouldnt worry, he apparently hates pitching to teamates etc, he is a game pitcher I wouldnt worry. The only thing i would worry about is BMAC's control. Apparently he hit A-row in the back with a changeup

    Paul Konerko

    I'd keep Willie Harris on, he's cheap and has good defense and speed...nothing wrong with that. QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) Not surprising. Guillen has been remarkably politically correct IMO, I mean, what's the guy supposed to say ... "Kenny is trying to trade Willie, but for now he's here" ?? I thought Harris' statement this morning were telling and actually I thought he handled it well ... he wants to be here but if he doesn't fit, he doesn't fit.
  22. Yes, but say his first and last name really fast 10x. He has pretty good stats, but that's quite a bit of money for a bench/platoon player, we need to keep some of that cash freed up for the trading deadline in case of injury or other such issue. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) He's played all around the IF during his career. But, has been the everyday two-bagger for a few years now. I wonder if he would consider a move if he were promised a set amount of starts. At least here, he should have more of a chance to play. The Phillies brass have major wood over Utley.

    Sox blogs

    I do not like the word blog for some reason. Perhaps I need help, but that word seriously ticks me off...it's merely the latest old buzzword that's finally catching on with the pop-culture media.
  24. No, we do not need 200 2B bench players. We need someone for SS/3B platoon. Besides, his name is hard to pronounce. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) I know we were ga-ga for this cat before we got Iguchi; but, does he even get a look? Then again, why would he come to the Sox to backup if that's the reason he wants to leave Philly? Boy, I dunno. I know this is probably a long-shot, but felt it was worth mentioning in PH since we were in love with him early in the off-season. Per Rotoworld Placido Polanco, who accepted Philadelphia's offer of arbitration after not finding the free-agent market to his liking, hopes to be traded to a team willing to use him as a regular. ''It's a situation I can't control,'' Polanco said. ''I don't like to be in this situation. I hate to be in this situation, but I have to live with it.'' Let's all feel sorry for the player who chose -- yes chose -- to make $4.6 million to act as a reserve rather than $3 million or so to be a starter elsewhere. The Phillies figure to be very open to trading Polanco if anyone wants him. Feb. 22 - 5:52 pm et

    Ha ha

    Who cares...if he was juicing his stats will drop this season and that's good for us. Now that he's no longer Pudge we'll just have to call him Slim. -y2
