  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) This was gonna be my advice. Go ahead and have some fun, just don't get involved with anything serious cause she may be cray-cray Yea, I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you here. You don't stick your dick in drama, and don't stick your dick in cray, there are ALWAYS better options. IF something out of the ordinary happens and you impregnate Miss Drama or Miss Cray, you'll get to spend the rest of your life wishing for that 2-20 minutes back.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) And then those politicians enact restrictions making it tougher to vote or moving people who vote against them out of their district so that they can write those laws while staying in office. And and despite all that, when the time comes, we re-elect them.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 08:09 PM) http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/19/opinion/...top-span-region How expensive it is to be poor. The last 1/3rd of the story goes back to Ferguson, a city with a population of 21,135 where there were 33,000 non-violent (mostly traffic) violations in 2013 (roughly 90 per day) targeting mostly the African-American population...also mentions the high court fines and wide array of fees and penalties. Keep in mind the police enforce the laws and the judges judge those in the eyes of those laws. The politicians the people elect WRITE those laws.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) I don't necessarily believe she'll most likely cheat, but that she's capable of cheating. That creates immediate trust issues in a relationship. They can be resolved too, and to cover up cheating you almost have to think like a criminal so as to cover your tracks. Everyone is capable of cheating, we're human, and when it comes to sex, our entire species is very primal by nature. It's a flaw feature built into all of us to assure our survival. The being said, what we have over many other forms of life is the ability to think and reason, and therefore CHOOSE to NOT listen to those urges/thoughts/feelings due to the rules we've accepted as a civilized society. Just because a person cheated in the past doesn't mean they'll cheat again in the future, or do so any easier than a person that's never cheated before. My personal opinion on the subject is this would be inviting a LOT of drama into your life, and nobody wants the kind of drama around them.
  5. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Anyone else have the iphone 6+? I got it for xmas and really like it. I was torn between the 6+ and the edge but figured it would be easier to go with the 6+ because my last phone was an iphone and it would be easier to transfer pictures and restore paid apps ect. Im really surprised how well the finger print scanner works as well. Also have a 6+, was worried about the size but it turned out to not matter, love using it and it's completely replaced my tablet. I really like how thin they are, it's makes their large size very manageable in your pocket.

    Outdoors Thread

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) That's true. One of the funnier parts of Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods" about the AT is when his friend goes "yard sale" on all of the extra crap in his pack. I've 50 lbs as the upper end of the common range for longer (week+) trips, but for a night or two that's really unnecessary. Whiskey has a better weight/alcohol ratio! I had some of that, too. It's not something I'd ever do again, but I was in my 20's and I really liked beer while camping.

    Outdoors Thread

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) Really just anything for the experience of actually hiking a few miles with 30-50 lbs of gear and then camping for a night or two. I'll keep that in mind for the spring. I know this is an old post, but I thought I'd say something about it anyway. 30 lbs, not 50. If your pack weighs that much, you're taking wayyyyyy too much stuff with you. People commonly overpack cloths and food on these types of trips. I'd recommend getting the pack as near to 30lbs as you can. Or you can be like me, arrive at 6pm and do a 1 mile vertical switchback hike in Colorado carrying 18 cans of beer in your pack. My friends all laughed at me until we arrived at our campsite. I could have sold those beers for like 20 a piece. They're lucky I'm nice.

    One month away

Nothing. Pick another day, where restaurants won't be packed, prices for everything from chocolate to flowers won't be inflated for no actual reason, and on that just as arbitrary day you pick, buy your loving companion 3-5X as many flowers, chocolates, or steaks/lobsters as you would have on Valentines day, and celebrate for the same reason. Valentines day is only good for celebrating a massacre set into motion by Al Capone.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) There's a map for that! 2014 Temperature Anomaly (deviation from 1951-1980 baseline) The US and Canada east of the Rockies were colder than usual, but most of the globe ranged from slightly to much warmer than usual. Well, they need to fix the US/Canada east of the Rockies.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) About 12 hours after my positive experience with a MacBook Air led me to buy one for my girlfriend, mine starts having this weird rattling noise. Fairly noticeable rattle when I move it side to side and a subtler one every few seconds when stationary. The subtler one would plausibly be a fan but I don't know about the other. I can't always reproduce the other. Is it something you have to TRY to do in order to do it? Is it affecting the actual use of the device? If so, bring it in, they'll fix it. Always loved Apples customer service.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) Why is spending $2 million for Paulino, $3 million for Belisario and $4 million for Scott Downs, smart, reasonablY cheap lottery ticket type deals, but risking basically less than $1 million and at most $4.4 million for a 25 year old with Viciedo's power, just a total waste of money? Because the ONLY thing Viciedo offers is power, and it's power he rarely gets to show because he doesn't make solid contact. He can't field. He can't walk. He can't run. He can't even speak.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) One thing of note, Gates' religious point of view change came with the birth of his first child. He was generally, and accurately, described as non religious (waste of time on Sunday when you could be working) or even an atheist. How many non religious based shelters do you find around a city? Food pantries? That's my main point. Churches generally are a gathering spot for communities to do good deeds directly in the community. As a nation we just don't have time for civic and fraternal groups like we use to. The Masons, Elks, Moose, etc all have declining memberships. I'd imagine the church has declining membership, too. I'm the sheep that got lost.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Being in a high crime area would come no where near explaining those trends especially since they're all outside of the state of Illinois. The guns are not being used anywhere near the area they're being purchased, they're bought out of state and then wind up as evidence in the city of Chicago. Does any of this surprise you, or for that matter, anyone else here? There are plenty of problems the government can solve, but they don't, because stupid people elect stupid politicians, who make stupid moves. Our government just put Ted Cruz in charge of space and science. That's like putting oil in charge of water. We have a government, on both sides mind you, in charge of the technological direction of this country, and many of them are in the 80's or 90's and barely understand what the f*** technology is, yet we, the stupid people, continue to elect them, and then wonder why we have issues such as this.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) I'm looking forward to moving to Tmobile where this can be accommodated better. Really what just makes this s*** luck is timing for me. I would have jumped ship but I need my credit and am hoarding all cash while we hope to execute this short sale purchase. I will say, this is why I regard the iPhone 4 to be best phone ever. Thing lasted 30 months without fail, and continues to serve as a backup for us and my friends. Loved that thing. Can't move back to it now because at&t phone. If you were on TMobile your AT&T iPhone would work.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) HTC One M7, 18 months old, so manufacturer warranty is over. I will go to the sprint repair shop. I can't wait for my contract to end in June. I enjoyed the One for about 6 months, but it's been really a pain since then. I know a lot have not had the issues I've had, but this is basically a rundown: - Poor battery - Phone gets really hot when running any application. - When it gets hot, the camera has a terrible purple tint - When trying to take multiple pictures, sometimes my battery goes from "half" to suddenly powering down. Just can't take it. - Struggles to download MMS. I thought this was sprint, then thought it was android, but nobody else I've seen has as much troubleg etting group texts as me. So it has not been fun. I may get a moto g or I found some used moto x for $120. Beats paying $150 for insurance on this thing for a new refurbed one. If you want absolute honesty, when it comes to most phones these days, despite being moderately expensive, they're largely considered "disposable" tech. When they break, it's usually cheaper to replace the entire unit than to fix the broken components. Upgrading a phone every 12 months is not only common, it's almost expected by these manufactures, and most of the phones are built within that mindset, whether we agree with it or not. I'm an iOS guy, but I'd give you the same advice as I'd give anyone else, Android or not. Buy the best you can buy at the time you're buying it, and it'll last the longest, and try to buy from a manufacturer with a history of timely updates and support.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) Interesting the word choice of "Moslems" vs. Muslims by Murdoch. At first, I thought it must have something to do with British/Australian vs. Americanized English. But not... http://scienceblogs.com/gregladen/2010/11/...slim-vs-moslem/ What a douche f***ing article.
  17. Is it just me or does 4.4M sound astronomical for what Viciedo will give you, which is a few HR's, a lot of K's, a low average and a low OBP? Edit: Oh, and I forgot bad fielding. I'd have preferred if they just let that black hole in our lineup go.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) Sorry, I'm sure that's a good article, but I couldn't get past the vomitous buzzfeedism of "Could Ansari be any more perfect?" as a subtitle. Let me write the headline "Aziz Anzari responds to Rupert Murdoch on Twitter and you won't believe what happens next!" Aziz Anzari responds to Rupert Murdoch on Twitter and it's EVERYTHING
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) Video editing question... Let's say you wanted to create a video clip, which was just a specific few seconds of a movie. I have literally never done video editing before. I am not sure yet if the video will exist somewhere on the interwebs either, so, here are the scenarios: 1. Assuming I can find on YouTube or the like, is there a way (without expensive software) to download the video, clip out the part I want and save it? 2. Since I have a DVD of the movie, if I put that into my computer's disc drive, could I clip it out from there? Any help is appreciated! There are many ways to do this, from extensions that allow you to download YouTube video/sound, to programs that allow you to decrypt and rip a DVD into a more computer friendly format, allowing you to then drag and drop the data file(s) into a video editor. Then there are a lot of video editors, but for this specific use case, Windows Movie Maker (or whatever they call the current version of this) on a PC, or iMovie on a Mac can perform the tasks you're looking to perform, quite easily.
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 06:00 PM) As a joke when asked who would fill in the charitable works after religion is eradicated you picked someone who clearly believes in God. LOL what a great sense of humor. How funny. Find a current quote where Gates says he doesn't believe in God. After having a child and being involved in charities around the world he has shifted from agnostic to believing. I guess if your wife was a believer you will change like you believe Gates has. I don't think he is doing it because of his wife. You also predicted that after religion is wiped out that people would fill that void. Yet you can't explain why those people aren't already doing charitable deeds. To ignore all the good deeds that people do as part of their faith is silly. I at least admitted that people form perverted religious views and harm people. You even refuse to admit that churches do good works around the world. They already are doing charitable deeds. By your ridiculous rationale, and it IS ridiculous, nobody that isn't religious contributes. What a f***ing joke. And Gates comments make it clear he's doing what he's doing because his wife believes. Only a zealot could interpret his word as you are now. I really do have to exit this thread now because it's pretty clear I've gone from serious to trolling. I have nothing against you, Tex, I just don't agree with the religious stuff these days.
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 05:39 PM) I'm sorry if this isn't clear enough for you. He also sends his children to a Catholic school. Face it you pulled a s***ty example out of your ass that supports my argument. Again, the example was a joke. And it doesn't support you, you simply want it too. It's clear he does it for his wife, and his comments make that clear.
  22. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 05:29 PM) Are you referring to the billionaire Bill Gates? Thank you! from wikipedia. No. It as actually meant as a joke, it's good to see you could see past those religious blinders and see the joke. Oh, wait. As stated, if the churches weren't stealing money from old people with false promises, that money would still exist and possibly be used even better.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 05:24 PM) Who will do all the charity work that churches do around the globe? You are totally dismissing all of that. Bill Gates. Nature abhors a vacuum. If the churches didn't exist, something would fill that charitable void, considering there'd be no money funneling to them and more available elsewhere for other things.
  24. Edit: Post removed, I'm done with this conversation, and it cements my feelings on religion and how useless it is. If all religion disappeared tomorrow the world would be a better place, not to mention more intelligent.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Easy. With things that are specifically designed to kill and have no other purpose. And IMO, anyone who "doesn't want to live in a society because they don't have a gun" has bigger problems than not having a gun...and probably isn't the best person to have a gun. Eh, I don't disagree with that reasoning...but again, I'm not a gun person. I know how to shoot them, I've been trained to handle them, etc...I just have no use for them.
