QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 10:00 AM) I'm not surprised you know that from memory. It's actually one of the best scenes from the ST movies IMO, that dialogue between Spock and Kirk. I like the Nicholas Meyer (II, VI) films better than any of the others, at least until the JJ Abrams reboot. Same.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) The quote from this movie screen shot is perfect for this moment. Also perfect is that Brian is one of the few who will probably know the quote immediately upon seeing the picture... Without having to look it up. Cartwright: I don't know if I should congratulate you or not... (Edit: I had written "weather I should", but when I read it, that didn't sound correct.) McCoy: I wouldn't. Also, jesus christ, Balta...I was here before you and you have 90,000 more posts than me? And here I thought I talked too much!
  3. Microsoft's new $199 Fitness Band is what all of these watches/trackers up to this point wish they were or could have been. This thing actually looks good, and works across all platforms (Windows Mobile, iPhones (uses their motion chip), and Android), with 48 hours of battery life and a host of sensors. This is the first fitness band/product/watch I've ever been interested in. The new fitness gadget is a Bluetooth band that records the number of steps the wearer takes in a day, the intensity of their sleep, exercise performance and calories burned. It also tracks heart rate, location via GPS, skin temperature, perspiration and UV exposure making it one of the most complete fitness trackers available.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 09:27 AM) This is a subject I find fascinating. Looking at the beliefs of major religions, in this country particularly - which is to say primarily Christianity in it's many forms - and what they have to say about the natural environment and our interaction with it. I grew up Catholic, and I've actually talked with Priests on this before. Man has "domain" over the animals and the land, but the religious folks I've spoken with also made it clear that man also has responsibility for it. Nature is provided by God to man to sustain him. Which interestingly, makes it seems like natural resources are a community asset of sorts. That sort of runs in conflict with much or the American view of property, real estate and the like. Basically, I want to see if people see their beliefs (or those of other religions, or lack of religion) are in concert with, or conflict with, the idea of protecting our natural environment and resources. And if that has an effect on your or others political beliefs as a result. Anyone else ever thought about this? Or am I the only one? Putting this train back on the tracks... I also grew up Catholic, but as I grew older, I realized that even the most devout of the religious still take their religion a-la-carte, in that they only practice or believe in the parts of the bible they 1) know of, 2) believe in, or 3) won't get caught doing. My feelings on this is I do not need religion to tell me that taking care of our surroundings/environment is important, I want to protect the world in whatever viable ways we can so future generations can enjoy it as I had the opportunity to do.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) Most bluetooth earbuds are going to be in ear but there are a few that claim they hold to the outside of your ear like my nike sport pieces of crap that are absolute tanks. The issue I have found with the BT ones is that its hard to find good ones that are sweat proof, so I continue to buy the wired nikes for a few bucks BT headsets also suck for anything other than music. If you try to watch a movie, the sound is desynched because of the delay.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 07:28 AM) My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw someone with ebola at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious. Thank you, Samone.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) Depends on what you have. Forsett is an RB2 and Smith is a WR2. RB2s are way more valuable at this point, unless your team is loaded on RBs. I have 3-4 WR2s on my team (Cobb, Sanders, White, Crabtree), but I would really like more stable RBs. This is my team as it is today: QB Jay Cutler RB1 DeMarco Murray RB2 Andre Ellington WR1 Demaryus Thomas WR2 Steve Smith TE Jordan Reed Flex Julien Edelman K Nick Novak Def Eagles I also have Both Murray and Ellington's handcuffs on the bench, as well as Keenan Allen and Delaney Walker. I didn't consider Forsett a RB2 on my team, as I slot both Murray and Ellington above him, but aside from Thomas, I did not have what I consider a very good set of WR.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) I've only been able to clear about 250 MB, and I gave up. There shouldnt be an obstacle to upgrade like this. Apple should know enough to be able to upgrade the OS without having to download so much data when the phone is plugged in. Pathetic really. 250MB? That's like nothing! Delete a movie or some music, you can always put it back. And there isn't much Apple or anyone else can do about this, operating system installs require space to expand, store temporary files, etc. You'll eventually have to clean your phone either way if you're below a gig...you're going to run out of space at some point...so you may as well do it before it forces you.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) yea a lot of them are totally worthless that way, or they are new and hypersensitive That's exactly why I don't think it matters. I can't write my name on those properly anyway...and the companies have to know that almost nobody can, so the signatures won't match either way. So my response to these signatures is stop wasting my time with signatures...this isn't 1975. Chip/pin is necessary today, signatures are NOT a valid form of security, nor were they ever.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 02:09 PM) Randall Cobb. I have him on 3 of my 4 teams. Traded Justin Forsett for Steve Smith... Kind of an even trade, but I'm leaning toward saying Smith is better...which is why I made the trade.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) No you cant. it requires 650 MB of free space even if you plug in Surely you can clear up 650mb off your phone. Do the usage and see what apps are taking up the most space. If it's your camera roll, plug it in and back it up to iPhoto.
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 11:07 AM) Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to sign my name correctly. It's not like it'll be checked against anything for authenticity. Haha, this is funny, I haven't signed my name correctly in about 5 years now. I literally put 2 squiggly lines and have yet to have anyone say anything or have a credit card company call about it.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) Id love to update my iphone OS but unfortunately it requires me to delete half of my stuff to even start the upgrade. If you are limited by space available you can plug directly into iTunes and upgrade.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) Please keep these updates coming. Oh, and the Camera Roll has returned in 8.1! Yay.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 11:07 AM) Why on earth does Jimmy Johns have two-year non-compete clauses for hourly restaurant staff? Non-competes really need to be reigned in. While it varies from state to state, non-competes do not hold up most of the time, especially in IL. Companies know this which is why they rarely attempt to enforce them.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 05:34 AM) What's the security like on this? At the risk of sounding like greg, I'm sort of suspicious of putting my credit card into into my phone which has a cloud. It's actually exceptional. From Apple: Every time you hand over your credit or debit card to pay, your card number and identity are visible. With Apple Pay, instead of using your actual credit and debit card numbers when you add your card to Passbook, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, a dedicated chip in iPhone. These numbers are never stored on Apple servers. And when you make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment. So your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Apple with merchants or transmitted with payment. ---- For every transaction, a new token code is created and used, and can only be used that one time, so if someone were to harvest the information transmitted over NFC, it would be useless.
  17. iOS 8.1 is out, and safe to install. Adds Apple Pay to iPhone 6/+ models, as well as fixes a LOT of bugs. I'll let you know what I run into over the next few days in terms of what's been fixed and what remains. So far: Messages app working better with 3rd party keyboards, screen is scrolling up when entering the app instead of hiding conversation text behind the keyboard. Apple Pay is very easy to setup/use for any credit cards/banks that support it.
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) Oh please. You're so full of it. You find nothing ever wrong with Apple. You're the biggest Apple ballsucker in the world. Steve Jobs probably didn't love Apple as much as you and was definitely more willing to admit faults. So keep making posts about how Apple's latest phone is the greatest even though someone already came out with it about 2 years ago. And keep bashing all products but apple and minimizing their mistakes if you ever admit them. Yea, I never have negative things to say about Apple or positive things to say about competitors... Me speaking on the removal of Camera Roll from iOS8: QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 04:38 PM) Yea, not a fan...this is another example for change for the sake of change, but there was no clear explanation or use case to do so. It didn't make using photos easier by any stretch, so I don't understand the point. Me speaking on the bulging camera on the iPhone 6/+: QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) The only change I'd make is making the camera flat, I don't like it, especially as a person that doesn't use a case. If you use a case, the camera sticking out makes no difference, as the case will undoubtedly make it flat. Me speaking my opinion on the G3: QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) The G3 is a nice phone, and at least it's not skinned with Samsung's bloat. Me speaking on iOS8 bugs I've encountered: QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) HAVE experienced the increased app crash issue a number of times. HAVE experienced 3rd party keyboard issues. HAVE experienced input issues on certain websites through Safari. Me speaking about Apple's premature rollout of iOS 8.0.1: QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) So Apple prematurely rolled out iOS 8.0.1 today and it killed carrier connect/TouchID. If you installed it OTA, the only thing you can do is a restore via iTunes on a Mac/PC to revert to 8.0. Jackasses. Me speaking on the battery life of the Apple watch: QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 01:44 PM) Based on how they didn't mention battery life, I'm betting it lasts about 8 minutes. Me speaking not he HTC One M8: QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) I agree with him on the HTC one M8, my friend has it and it's the FIRST Android phone I was ever somewhat jealous of...and this is me talking...so, that kind of means something. I call things as *I* see them. When a phone deserves praise, I give it. When Apple does something I dislike, I say it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) Ended up replanning this trip entirely due to weather. We drove down to southern Illinois and then spent Saturday in Shawnee National Forest. Sunday we drove over to Mammoth Cave NP, then stayed the night in Louisville. Kentucky, or at least that area of it, was a lot nicer than I expected and way less run down than the parts of southern Illinois we were in. There are some extreme Deliverance looking parts of the Shawnee.
  20. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 09:54 PM)
  21. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) The hell it is. It's a major issue. Especially since they were moving their warranty to not cover this either and it was $395 to fix via Apple without the warranty. At the very least, if it's going to bend, let customers know ahead of time and let them make the decision. Keep believing your tinfoil hat anti-Apple circle jerk nonsense if it makes you feel better. Being that they've sold about 25 million of them now, I'm sure this would still be a story if it actually was the "major issue" you claim it is, but the fact that it's blown over in a matter of days should probably tell you something.
  22. The new iMac is 5120x2880 - 5k display. Awesome.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) A 6.1 mm iPad. Wow. That's impressive. Although I think we learned from bend-gate that super thin devices made of metal aren't the best idea. It should be a lot harder to bend a tablet unless you try to though. Granted, I'm sure someone will try it and it'll bend and people will freak out. People shouldn't be bending phones or tablets with their hands, or sitting on their phones, tablets, laptops or desktop computers. My 6+ is still perfect and I wear it in my pocket daily. This story was and still is bulls*** blown out of proportion, just like when we first heard of the iPhone 5's bending because people sat on them, or decided to purposefully bend them with their hands as if that was some sort of legit test. Take better care of your s***, these devices, and computers in general, aren't the same devices we were using 10 years ago, so adapt and treat them as such.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) I really hope so, and with respect to Ebola hitting Boeing getting cut 4% perked my ears. BUT. I'm nervous. Germany/Brazil/China all slowing down, US retail having a declining month and the oil plummet I have to imagine is a sign of a global demand shortage. but I hope you are right. Here's to hoping for a fantastic holiday retail season. If my wife and I can keep our jobs through this, we were hoping to purchase a house in the spring. A real estate correction and the mortgage interest dropping to 4% doesn't hurt me terribly. I think things got a little ahead of themselves for a while there, and this was due. And retail will probably do better with the oil demand falling, as people will have more money to spend, instead of giving it to oil companies.
  25. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) Dow down 6.3% in the last 4 3/4 days. Just a healthy correction. Buying opportunity.
