QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 03:38 AM) f***, I lost the waiver claim on Mark Ingram, but I did win the claims of Tom Brady and Justin Forsett. The cocksucker who vultured Ingram already has DeMarco Murray and Marshawn Lynch, the #1 and #2 RB so far this season. Bastard. How the hell were Ingram and Forsett still on the wire in your league the last few weeks?
-
I wish my pay league was ending right now, my team has entered that magic phase of being so red hot it's unbeatable...and FF players know that usually only lasts a few weeks... :/ Q: Should I start Edelman or Forsett this week? I don't trust Reed enough to replace Walker at this point, and Walker has been performing more often than not. This is my lineup: QB Jay Cutler RB DeMarco Murray RB Andre Ellington WR Demaryius Thomas WR Keenan Allen TE Delanie Walker Flex Julien Edelman K Nick Novak Def Philadelphia Eagles Bench: Justin Forsett Jordan Reed Dwayne Bowe Lance Dunbar Stepfan Taylor Carolina Panthers

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 06:58 PM) I'm confused...I'm looking at my 4S and the corners are rounded. What do you mean by squared off? A 4/4s has flat sides and "chamfered" edges, it's not round like the 6/6+. You can rest a 4/5 on its side and it will stand up straight, you can't do that with a phone that's rounded.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) What's worth considering with ebola is that the "containment cost" on the ground every time it gets here is actually fairly small. With something like the measles, a person infected walks into an elevator and 3 hours later that elevator has infected 20 people. With ebola, you need long-term close contact to transmit it and a cleaning step controls it. If hospitals actually follow the CDC's recommendations, then when people come in complaining they're sick and came back from Africa a week ago, there are 2-3 people you need to monitor and 2-3 locations that you need to clean. The effort you need to contain this is really quite low, all things considered, because of how it is transmitted. The poor performance of the Texas hospital magnified this one case, but even still, Dallas is not shut down. Unfortunately I can't comment on how much business the U.S. does with western african countries and what the impacts would be if they were cut off from air travel, but there's got to be some math spelling out the balance of costs associated with shutting the doors and how that compares with quarantine costs. If, for example, we banned air travel to/from those countries, that could cost a whole lot of lives by shutting down the travel of medical relief as well. Agreed.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) I think it's the fact that the corners are rounded. I held one and I thought it felt decent in the hand though. We agree here...I was never a fan of the squared off feeling of the 4/5 series iPhones...I mean, they weren't bad, and in that smaller form factor that squared off design worked quite well, but the squared off edges on phones this big would just be terrible. The 6 is a stark departure from the 4 and 5 series iPhones, back to the rounded shape I always felt was more comfortable to hold.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) It just doesn't feel like an iPhone. It feels cheap. Couldn't disagree more. Feels more solid than any iPhone other than the 5, and it's close enough to the 5 in terms of sturdiness that it's negligible. Keep in mind the 4/4s had 2 panes of glass which I didn't care for, and the 3 series were plastic which I really hated. The 6 is the best built iPhone I've held since the original iPhone 1 design, which this is very similar too. The only change I'd make is making the camera flat, I don't like it, especially as a person that doesn't use a case. If you use a case, the camera sticking out makes no difference, as the case will undoubtedly make it flat.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 11:51 AM) I was in China for a bit during the initial outburst of swine flu (or one of those things). If you had a fever, you weren't flying/coming into the country, and when we were at the airport going through customs, they actually were checking people's temperatures. Not sure if that was done all over the place or if it was just being done at select times. Of course I think I only remember getting checked on my way in, on my way out, I don't think they cared. Might be mistaken but you couldn't walk more then 10 feet without seeing some form of sign. My memory might be off a bit, but I remember at least one time either getting checked going through customs in China or leaving China. Note: This wasn't even at the height of the swine flu fear. I don't want to imagine what it would have been like the first few weeks. That will only prevent people that are full on incubated...you can carry the flu for days without showing a single sign, same goes for Ebola. Having a fever at that moment, or sniffling/sneezing may mean you have the flu, but you can exhibit zero symptoms for days leading to it taking hold, despite being infected. And for the record, I'm not advocating banning flights to/from anywhere, whatever the CDC says we should do, we should do as far as I'm concerned.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 08:50 AM) Former SC GOP director: Execute anyone who comes into contact with Ebola — ‘it’s just math’ QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 08:54 AM) "You mean like what British Airways and Gulf carrier Emirates did?" Derp. To your smarmy reply: Those airlines actually banned flights, just not to the extent Trump requested...you even posting that as a reply/comparison to my original reply is you basically saying I'm advocating executions now. Asshat.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) But that was not what was advocated. Just the fact that certain bans have occurred shows that while he tends to take things too far (it's what he does), it's not out of the realm of sanity to be careful when it comes to something like this. I don't trust customs or the TSA (or most security measures related to the US airline industry) to do much that could prevent this from spreading, be it in this country or whatever variations exist in other countries. Answering some questionnaire is just ... not a valid safety measure if you ask me when talking about something with a multi-week incubation period.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 07:57 AM) British Airways did not ban flights from the entire continent. No but from targeted areas they did.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 06:34 AM) Donald Trump wants all flights from Africa to be cancelled until further notice. Oy ve You mean like what British Airways and Gulf carrier Emirates did?

While this is speculation, I personally believe he knew he was exposed and wanted to get back to the US for treatment.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 01:39 PM) That might be too much for what I am looking for. Let me explain what I am wanting them for. I am going to propose to my girlfriend within the next year and we are planning on visiting Chicago in mid March and that time is when I am thinking about doing it. One thing she has always told me is she wants pictures. So I want to find someone to be where I am planning on doing it to take pictures. I want them to just seem like someone taking pictures of the city when in reality they are there to take pictures of the moment and get some good pictures afterwards. I guess I'm not looking for a big company but someone who does photography as a side job or something of that nature. When it comes to photography, keep one thing in mind ... you will get what you pay for.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) With the singular issues every summer I have travelling around the north to northeast where they have almost no service, T-MO has been great to deal with. For example they have one tower in Jackson Hole, out by the airport and unless you know where to look, you won't find it. They also throttle your date amount when roaming. Because I tend to travel around a lot to remote places, I have Verizon...and it almost always works regardless of where I am. I was just in Jackson Hole this past summer, and my phone worked everywhere but in the most remote areas, and even then it'd pop in signal from time to time.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) yes Yea, not a fan...this is another example for change for the sake of change, but there was no clear explanation or use case to do so. It didn't make using photos easier by any stretch, so I don't understand the point.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 09:36 PM) I'm so glad they're going to allow us to run Windows 8 apps in a window and not full-screen. That annoyed the hell out of me. I also like the new window snapping features. Agreed. That full screen nonsense was, once again, fine for smaller screened touch devices, but it sucked on my 27" monitor.
-
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) That's fine with me. 8 honestly is not bad, but the damage was done. I don't know why more people don't understand, Microsoft does a developmental product every other year. Windows ME - Developmental Windows XP - Final Windows Vista - Developmental Windows 7 - Final Windows 8 - Developmental Windows 10 - Final If you notice, all their developmental's turn out to be great final builds once the last SPs (before the new OS is announced) are released. Happens the same with their servers and essentially any one of their software products like Exchange, Office, etc. 8.1, especially on the Surface 3 is the bees knees What the holy hell... I disagree with calling release software they've been charging for via retail/OEM as "developmental" when software IS your main product. People don't understand what you're saying about Microsoft doing "developmental" product cycles because you completely made it up, even if it coincidently seems to fit the narrative. Emphasis on coincidentally. You do NOT get to charge people/corporations for development software on a RETAIL basis, nor release it to enterprise/OEM customers as "final", and then pretend it was developmental 2 years later. Call it like it is...Windows 8 was a failed experiment to meld touch/mouse/keyboard input into one unified UI, forced into retail by Balmer, and jammed onto hardware it wasn't meant for. Windows 8/8.1 is a GREAT OS for touch based interfaces, I've said that before and I'll say it again, however, Windows 8/8.1 was a HORRIBLE OS for mouse/keyboard based computers. On desktops without touch, it did nothing Windows 7 wasn't already doing other than cause mass confusion, and nothing will change that...other than Windows 10, which is why they're admitting the mistake and moving on. Windows 9 10 looks like what Windows 8 should have been from the get go. ...and yes, it's great on the Surface 3 for the reason I stated above...it's touch based hardware.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) They literally said they wanted to separate themselves from the single digit revisions because 10 is "so new" Ever since Google ruined the meaning of version numbers with Chrome (and now Firefox), version numbers don't mean much anymore anyway.
-
Windows 8 was so bad, Microsoft is skipping 9 and going straight to 10 to get some separation from the suck that was 8.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 12:01 AM) Speaking of that, I've had the Moto 360 for a week now and while it's not as good as I had anticipated, it's not as bad as some of the original reviews. Reviews said the battery was awful...it's not. I've never gone lower than 20% on it yet. You have to charge it every night, but it'll last at least 20 hours if you don't over-use the watch (i.e. play around on it for no apparent reason). Android Wear still needs work. There's still too many annoying bugs, like the watch disconnecting from your phone 4-5 times a day for no apparent reason. They also need to give you more options for quick replies so I don't have to speak into the watch to say something as simple as "see you later" (that's not a quick-reply option, I have no idea why). There's no speaker on it, so you don't get a voice for turn-by-turn and it doesn't do the vibrate once for left and twice for right like the Apple Watch does. It does, however, vibrate twice when you get close to a turn. Overall, it does what it's supposed to do, give you a glance at your notifications, tell you the time, let you set alarms/timers, and use Google here and there (I found out how old Ellen Page was in about 10 seconds yesterday). But in order for it to gain mass appeal, there needs to be a lot of refinement by Google and a lot more development by developers to take advantage of the form factor. You have to take all reviews with a grain of salt. Personal use will always trump reading other people's opinions on a piece of tech.

So Apple prematurely rolled out iOS 8.0.1 today and it killed carrier connect/TouchID. If you installed it OTA, the only thing you can do is a restore via iTunes on a Mac/PC to revert to 8.0. Jackasses. IMO, fragile hardware is one thing, take better care of your s***, but releasing software that was obviously untested should get people fired over there. And I'm not talking about a few minor bugs...it literally prevented TouchID from working AND prevented your phone from connecting to it's carrier.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) It probably is overblown, but your example is of a phone bending that's been out for half a year. And I also searched on Google and found maybe 2-3 forum posts about it. I don't think this is a metal problem, it's a design or manufacturing problem. We will find out in the weeks to come. Point is, people have complained about other metal phones bending from "normal use", but what exactly is normal use to that person? Did he go rock climbing and then complain it's bent? What I'd like to see is a legit test performed on the different metal phones...not a metal phone vs a plastic one. Those results are kind of expected. It's not very surprising metal phones bend and don't snap back into shape, is it? But if it's happening THAT easily, that's terrible quality control, but I want to know exactly how much pressure the different phones can take before they bend, otherwise this is just another instance of, "Apple's involved let's write a piece on it for clicks".

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) I would guess that the rounded back of the HTC One would make it substantially harder to bend Quick Google search shows they bend. http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one-m...73-bent-m8.html This is exactly what I mean by it's news if Apple is involved, but nobody cares otherwise.
