QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) What good is reading notifications if you can't reply? I don't guarantee they will be a thing, it's an outlier use case to me for only a subset of the population. Most of these features are what I call show & tell features, and are limited/gimped at best. You'd need near perfect conditions for voice, and/or they require you to pull out your phone (which they already require you to carry) and use it anyway because the screen sizes are simply too small to do much of anything with. And from the looks of some of these, they're already reaching ridiculous "clock" like sizes where you're going to look like a complete idiot if you wear one. It's just not enough of an inconvenience to pull out your phone in the first place. What they COULD do, however, is tap into the fitness world... First and foremost, it needs to tell the time/date. Then, if it kept a log of heart rate, distances walked, perhaps blood pressure, body temperature, etc., it could be worth something at the right price. But getting limited messages or a tiny map on your wrist isn't going to cut it.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) If I am wearing a watch its probably for fashion over function anyway. Mine is definitely for fashion, but I also use it to -- get this -- tell the time.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) It'll fail like 3D has failed. People will have to upgrade their tv's/monitors and networks will have to film/broadcast in 4k and neither will be willing to do that in the numbers that a change would require. This is especially true if the technology of even better resolution is just down the road. I kind of agree with this simply because huge upgrades JUST occurred going from SD to HD (first 720p, then 1080i/p), including all the broadcasters that had to upgrade all their equipment to broadcast 720p/1080i (since none are even broadcasting in 1080p yet)...I highly doubt they'll be looking to dump all that billion dollar equipment less than a decade after installing it all. I think this will be a niche market and remain that way for quite some time.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) It's great for when you're in the car or can't use your hands. You can text someone just by saying "OK Google, text so and so". You can also use it for navigation (for when you walk or bike), get notifications at a glance, and there's apps that have special functions just for the watch (like a recipe app allowing you to view recipes step by step on the watch). It's an area that's yet to be fully developed and I think there's a use for it. I think the screen size is far too limited for these functions to be any good. Also, voice control *still* sucks in anything but the quietest of environments. I have a mount in my car that holds my phone and basically accomplishes all of that, only with a screensize that's useful. I don't get the smartwatch thing either. Other than for fitness tracking...I don't get it.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) That's assuming people wear their watches 24/7, which they don't. You gotta take it off sometime. If getting a full charge is as easy as taking it off and putting it on a Qi wireless charger on your night-stand once every 2 days, then people have nothing to complain about. It's also the best looking smartwatch available by far. I take my watch off every night, but I never charge it and I never wind it, nor do I want too. And when I'm on the road, I don't want to have to take ANOTHER charger with me for another device that can't last a week or two. I'm also not a smartwatch person...I wear a real watch, one that tells time with or without electricity.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 10:22 AM) No speed is ever overkill. 100 mbps can get you around 13 MB/s. You can download a 1 GB file in about a minute and a half. I don't see how you can complain about faster download speeds... I agree with this. I wish everyone had 1000mbit at this point.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) It's not a phone...? It's a smart watch. Oh, had no idea...then meh. A watch with only 2.5 days of battery life is a useless piece of s***. Watches need battery life that lasts weeks, if not a full month on single charge, and that will include Apple's if/when they release one.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) 4k streaming will use 10-20 Mbps, but I'm not convinced that'll ever really take off all that much. 4K could take off with streaming, as in the future most of these bandwidth limitations and restrictions will eventually go away, but with 4k (and soon 8k?) storage is more of an issue, as each movie (without extras, languages, etc.) is probably around 150 gigs. But even then, it would be limited (at least for the foreseeable future) to people living where huge bandwidth is available. As seen here: http://gizmodo.com/5914426/the-first-cinem...ly-breathtaking

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) Moto 360 will have wireless charging and will last as long as 2.5 days. I just want to throw my money at it. Aren't the days of caring how long a phone lasts over? You can buy Mophie juice packs (or others) that are basically like adding a case to your phone and they add a 2100mah battery in addition to whatever's in your phone already. For people that insist on using a case on their phone, they're nearly no brainers. I still won't use a case on my phones, but I have chargers everywhere. I've never once run out of juice.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) It isn't my thing either, but then again, I'm not watching a bunch of them and complaining about them, so YMMV. Hold the phone here, it's not like I'm complaining without reason. I loved some of these superhero movies, I'm simply expressing my opinion that at this point, it's overdone. Every year it's more superhero movies, and it'll be like this until the crush the entire genre into a fine powder and then we'll get none (or no quality ones) for the next decade. It's the same reason why we have 4 Transformer movies, 3 of which are horrible beyond horrible, yet they keep breaking bank, so they keep making more. I wish they'd just stop for a while.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 08:47 AM) I actually did not like Capt America at all as well but Winter Soldier was awesome. Didn't like the Spidey reboot either so not going to see Part 2. Same with Spidey, never bothered to see part 2.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) So the last Marvel movie you saw you really liked but you're tired of them now? It was the first movie in a long time I liked from the genre, so it's probably more an exception to the rule than the rule.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 06:07 AM) Someone else want to break the news to him? I'm fine with it being a part of the universe in a minor form, but based on people saying it can stand on it's own, within it's own universe, I'm fine with that explanation and will give it a watch when it's rentable. I'm just happy to hear it's not the usual superhero vs bad guy crap I've already seen 50 times.

Here are my star ratings for the Marvel/DC movies I've seen. * = Terrible ** = Average *** = Good **** = Exceptional Batman Begins - ***1/2 The Dark Knight - **** The Dark Knight Rises - ** (The more you honestly think about this movie, the worse it becomes.) Iron Man - ***1/2 Iron Man 2 - *1/2 (This movie was just flat out stupid.) Iron Man 3 - ** Spider-Man - **1/2 Spider-Man 2 - ***1/2 Spider-Man 3 - *1/2 The Amazing Spider-Man - ** The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Haven't seen it. The Avengers - ** Captain America - *1/2 (I thought this movie was really bad.) Captain America 2 - Haven't seen it, heard it was much better than the first. Thor - **1/2 (Without Loki this would have * star.) Thor 2 - Haven't seen it, heard it's better than the first. X-Men - **1/2 X-Men 2 - *** X-Men 3 - * (I'd give this zero stars if I could.) X-Men First Class - **1/2 (I'd give this 3 stars if it wasn't full of incredibly stupid mutants.) X-Men Days of Future Past - ***1/2 Hulk - * (The bad Eric Bana one.) The Incredible Hulk - ** (The slightly better Edward Norton one.) Superman Returns - *1/2 (The bad one where Brandon Routh played Christopher Reeves playing Superman and Kevin Spacey played Gene Hackman playing Lex Luthor.) The Man of Steel - **1/2 (Extra 1/2 because I'm a fan, but it was a bit...much.) Wolverine Movies - Haven't seen any of them, if there even are multiple. I'm sure there are a few I missed, but that should give a gauge on how I rate superhero movies, regardless of general consensus. I find most of them very fun, but there isn't much more there. If it's a movie I won't watch twice, it will never have more than **.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 06:45 AM) Guardians of the Galaxy is as original as you get. But please, continue reviewing a movie you haven't seen. It's fascinating watching you do so. Sounds like someone missed my previous post.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 10:10 PM) Guardians of the Galaxy may be the least cookie cutter film in a long time as far as action movies go. Right now you're basically just saying it's cookie cutter without seeing it. It can stand alone from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in it's own self contained world. Hell, it's more akin to Star Wars meets a Kevin Smith movie than like Avengers, Iron Man, or Winter Soldier. I may watch this one just because it's not part of that tired avengers universe.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) The Marvel movies are anything but cookie cutter. There are many layers, characters, and story lines. I could argue they are extremely complex. And it's not just my opinion on their quality. It's the consensus. I'm renting Under The Skin this weekend. Just lol to this. They're good action movies, but they're not complex in the least. Inception is complex, the avengers was not.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) Good movies, Bah humbug! Good in your subjective opinion, you mean. So there's that. That's like me telling you what music is good and why your Scrooge for not listening too it.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) I feel sorry for you. Why? Feel sorry for the lack of originality, instead...these movies, while basically decent, really offer nothing new and are as cookie cutter as they come. I'd rather start seeing something more original than standard comic fare at this point, and anything Marvel is exactly that. I mean, people just rave about every movie based in this universe lately...and watch this: I thought the avengers AND iron man 3 were completely average, predictable, overly busy on effects and just like any other marvel movie, and at this point I get it, and I'm bored.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) The Northwoods were exactly how i remembered them. That place is in a time capsule. I had so much fun last week teaching my kids and wife to fish Where'd you go? I'm heading up there next week for about 5 days myself.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) You wanna know, how I know, that your list is fake? Iowa is on it. It's not a state being run into the ground by IL politicians, so it's better and belongs.
-
Haven't seen it...pretty sick of the entire Marvel universe at this point, and I really enjoyed the latest XMEN movie...but I'm boycotting all superhero movies or movies based in those universes for the time being. It's just overload now.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 08:23 AM) Both Olympic and Mt. Rainier were amazing. QUOTE (cws0591 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) Hey guys! I have been lifting regularly for about 6 months now. I have always had pain(in outside of forearms) just when I release the preacher bar after doing a set of preacher curls. But now it has extended past just the exercise itself. I have pain randomly throughout my day in the outside of both of my forearms. I also now have the pain sometimes doing any upper body exercise. Do you guys have any recommendations or possible resolutions? Also I have already stopped doing preacher curls and substitute other bicep lifts This is a question of Ptatc, as giving someone advice on injuries is something that should only be done by a professional.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) As I have upped my weekly runs to four days a week for marathon training, I have had to cut back on my weightlifting due to lack of time. My normal routine is to lift 4 times a week (1 of them a "leg day"), using heavy weights for 3 sets of 6-10 reps each. I am curious as to what is the "minimum" amount of lifting I can get away with just to "maintain" through October. I am thinking/hoping I should lift just once a week (eliminating leg day altogether), and switch my routine to incorporate lighter weights with more reps. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks Depends on the person, some can get away with "maintenance" for longer periods than others... If you lift lighter, you will get smaller, that's just the way it works. You're body will only make itself big enough to perform the tasks you give it -- so if your arm needed to be 18" to curl 45's, and now you're doing 35's, it WILL naturally lose some of that now unnecessary mass over time. How long that takes is very dependent on the persons genetics, etc. Doing higher rep counts with lighter weight is a way of making a weightlifting session somewhat hybrid cardio, but it will not make you bigger than you already are. Being that this is only until October, any size you lose will be minimal and easy to replace.
