  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) http://www.politicususa.com/2014/06/03/rep...p-gop-2011.html They were told about the possibility as far back as 2011. In other words, if you briefly discuss something years ago, but then drop it and suddenly do it when everyone pretty much forgot you ever said anything, it's ok? Sounds like a shady, albeit not surprising or unexpected political practice from either side.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) Speaking of honey, as my wife and I travel each summer we pick up honey from local producers, you really can taste a difference. I prefer raw/strained, instead of heated forced filtered they tend to sell at stores. That said, the biggest difference in taste in honey will be the kinds of flowers used.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) Ha fair enough. Just has a bitter after taste to me. I was trying to force myself to eat it for a while and then just realized that was dumb and moved onto to other stuff. Try it with honey, it's really good together. I bought a bottle of honey and leave it at my desk at work and grab a plain yogurt every morning and just squirt some honey on top, eat it, add a little more...etc...it's really good.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) You eat the plain greek yogurt? I tried that for a bit but it just tastes freakin awful to me so I've switched off that for the time being. With honey it tastes awesome...I don't just eat it plain.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 06:04 AM) I did. Pretty decent upgrade other than the fact it's a color back. The 5c is actually a better phone spec wise, larger battery and a few other enhancements, but the 5 is metal.

  7. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 08:25 PM) I have AppleCare+. Guy said that with the broken screen they had to charge me for the accidental damage, but I did get another iPhone 5. I would have been pissed if they gave me a 5c. Nice, I think someone here did this and they have him a 5c since they had no more 5's.
  8. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 05:01 PM) Revolutionary.
  9. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) I cant wait to install iOS Android on my iPhone. I've seen this said by a few people...and you do realize that most of the features they added were available in the jailbreak community long BEFORE they were available on Android, right? Not to mention the ideas that are now a part of base Android that were originally developed by Android users within their hacker community. Can we stop pretending Google invented all of these things, when they've ripped just as many ideas from elsewhere as Apple has, and for that matter, Microsoft has? To add to this, when someone comes out with an awesome feature, I'd be hard pressed to blame a competitor from copying the idea and implementing it in their own vision, which is what happens in the OS market, and always has, whether it be mobile OS's or desktops. Now, stealing someones source code and re-using it is one thing, but taking an idea and implementing it in your own way is another. I have no love for software patents, so when these companies steal ideas from each other, as they've been doing since the 80's, I'm all for it. I've always been baffled by people somehow thinking Apple should just never implement any new features because they already exist elsewhere...this has to be the stupidest mentality that I'm aware of, and it exists in excess in the tech community.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 01:56 PM) iOS 8 gets custom keyboards, sharing between apps, and 3rd party widgets. Late to the party, but it's good to see Apple bringing in useful features that iOS has lacked and needed for a while. iOS 8 pretty much fills in the gaps that required jailbreaking, sans a few of the very granular customization abilities afforded by jailbreaking.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) If only those kids had more guns... If only there were laws preventing criminals from getting guns so easily. Oh, wait, this is Chicago, there are tons of such laws...too bad they have no teeth.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) 1600 calories is REALLY low if you are working out. I intake maybe twice that amount as a diet. Also "calories" are not all created equal. IMO if you want to diet you change to 5 or 6 small meals a day and eat clean and the calorie count doesnt matter. I subscribe to a method of what you went over. 4 of the 7 days in the week, I'll eat pretty clean. Average clean day looks something like this: Breakfast: Banana, Plain f**e (or other brand) Greek Yogurt with a bit of raw honey, Medium Starbucks hot coffee with half/half and about 3/4 teaspoon sugar (raw or white, doesn't matter). Lunch: Salad with random vegetables in it, spring mix, kale, boneless skinless chicken breast, nuts, random fruit, topped with salt/pepper/olive oil. Late afternoon snack: More plain f**e greek yogurt and raw honey. Dinner: Usually the exact same as lunch with a variation on the fruit/vegetables. After Dinner Snack: Sometimes I'll cheat a bit here and have a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles...because I can. --- Then the other 3 days of the week, I eat whatever I want within reason. Keep in mind I rarely ever eat cookies/candy and stuff like that so even my dirty eating days tend to be cleaner than most...but on these days I'll often BBQ and eat whatever happens to be on the menu that day. --- Edit: LOL at the censoring of the brand name F a g e.
  13. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) And thus the easily terminated cycle continues. As Hawkaroo might say, "What new?" This is one of the issues with being bombarded by a 24/7 news cycle where 90% of the news reported is distraction news. I mean, what would we do with our time if we weren't having to hear about some stupid Kanye/Kardashion wedding every day for three weeks (and I'm a person who actively attempted to AVOID anything related to that story, and it was impossible.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 07:35 AM) All of the beneficial changes I made to my diet were a result of tracking my calories and trying to stay around 1,600 net calories to lose 2 pounds per week. Once you start logging in the calories you realize which foods and drinks are most important to you. Holy Jebus...only 1600 calories a day? I'd starve to death. I second what you said about keeping track, it makes you look at things like cookies and say, "It's just not worth it", considering 2-3 little cookies is usually a few hundred calories, half of which are fat calories...for that I could drink 3 light beers and break even. I'll take the beer please.
  15. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 12:58 AM) So the Apple conference is today, is it today they announce the new iPhone or just the IOS? This is usually just developer based things, such as software...OSX Yosemite and iOS8, and I'm sure something on the Beats acquisition, but you never know with Apple, I believe they debuted the new Mac Pro at this conference last year, so hardware announcements aren't out of the question.
  16. QUOTE (kev211 @ May 31, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) For all you apple gurus out there. Yesterday the lock button on my iPhone 5 stopped working. Not a problem as I have apple care and was going to take it in to get repaired or replaced. Later on I happened to drop my phone and shattered the screen. So it was a rough day for my phone. My question is can I get the phone replaced for free due to the button or since the screen is now shattered am I going to be required to pay the 50 dollars to get the replacement unit? The 50 dollar replacement co-pay only applies to those with AppleCare+, if you have the basic AppleCare that came with your device, it doesn't cover accidental damage. iPhone 5's have a recall on some i5 devices for that power button issue (http://www.macrumors.com/2014/04/25/iphone...ke-replacement/), so they may fix fix that for free. They can fix your cracked screen and it shouldn't require a complete replacement in the case you don't have AC+. And finally, in the event they do exchange the phone via AppleCare+, they will probably be giving you a iPhone5c (the colored one), in return for your i5, since they don't make iPhone 5 devices anymore.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2064 -> 02:18 PM) Correct, because the right regulation is the one that isn't politically possible. Therefore, I will keep pointing out how right it is until it becomes politically possible. A glimpse into your future...
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2014 -> 09:14 PM) Yeah, the goal is to make this one last a few extra months then do a legit 2 year contract family plan in Oct/Nov. just need like 4 months to get there. Still not a bad trade in, anything is better than having an old device laying around nobody will use. I'd check out t-mobile for what you want to do, it can get you through a few months adequately for sure.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 29, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) I believe they have contract less plans now, but with all the changes they've made over the past few months I really have no idea on cost. You can probably check on their website they may have some info on such plans. Keep in mind that phone is worth about 175$ in trade in value, too. Oh you have a 4 not a 4s, probably 90$ trade in these days.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) Any clue how much that'll run me? Activation and monthly fee? I believe they have contract less plans now, but with all the changes they've made over the past few months I really have no idea on cost. You can probably check on their website they may have some info on such plans. Keep in mind that phone is worth about 175$ in trade in value, too.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) One more. Have an iphone4 that was on ATT. About to become unlocked when employer doesn't want it back. I'd love to be able to use it for a couple months and then buy a 6 this fall. Need for both minutes and overall data is low. Is there a way to convert this to a monthly minimal plan and what would I have to do for that? I know Verizon can't be swapped into this hardware but can tmobile? Yes, t-mobile can.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) And the answer to that is to yawn when this happens again in a few months. Which is pretty much what happened this time. The answer is to stop reelecting a congress that has a single digit approval rating, but even that's short sighted of what's necessary. Even our local governments approvals are often dismal only to get reelected countless times on broken promises. The people have the power to change things, but they repeatedly show they don't actually want change, they just want to talk about change.
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 29, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) When you talk about changing society you are always talking about a "faux" reality that doesnt exist. Thats the point of change. This isn't always true. You have to consider the laws as they are, not laws as you wish the would be. The second amendment will NOT be changed within our lifetime and that's that. If anything, it's gotten stronger the past decade, so a sudden weakening of it just isn't reality and there is no point in adding it to the discussion.
  24. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 29, 2014 -> 07:42 PM) the cultural difference exists because of our lack of regulation. start regulating and the culture will change. slowly. but it'll change. There is a LOT more of a cultural difference than simple regulation.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 29, 2014 -> 06:42 PM) It appears you have just laid out a case for less guns. I'm not a gun guy, so what was your attempted point here? I was merely talking about mass murders, and how they happen with or without guns. Do they make it easier? Perhaps. But they still happen regardless. I just feel people need to account for the massive societal differences when I see them compare the US to Sweden, Australia and a mess of other countries that simply don't have to deal with 95% of what the us deals with in terms of culture clash, language barrier, and size. Not to mention speaking within the bounds of CURRENT rules, laws and realities of the US as compared to elsewhere when doing so. Ignoring the realities surrounding the US as it is, right now, is easy. Figuring out a solution INCLUDING those realities, however, isn't something a lot of people are doing in this thread, and IMO it's weak to speak in non-realities when discussing reality. I can't speak on hypothetical realities, and neither can anyone else here, so they should just stop and focus on what is, not some faux reality that doesn't exist.
