QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 08:14 AM) I'm gonna guess his new healthcare plan? No, I mean by his trailing comment -- he's telling America to wake the f*** up, while ignoring the fact that America elected a president that put said legislation into effect/law, enabling him to get that, not once, but twice. By that rational, America DID wake the f*** up...or he wouldn't have what he has. This is just typical partisan stupidity. He's b****ing to b**** about nothing. I get annoyed when 21 year olds (or in that age group) pretend they have it so s***ty, and everything around them is s***ty, and that the rest of the world is awesome, and they've not lived a single hard day in their lives.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) $50/month for full health care including dental, specialists, etc, etc with max $1,000 out of pocket and a $0 deductible? Thank you Obamacare! Wake the f*** up America. What the f*** are you talking about here?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 12:21 AM) I just read a newspaper today at dinner that said Obama's approval rating was horrifically bad right now. To that I say, who cares? I'm sure he doesn't care, either. He won 2 fricking elections despite very very limited success as Prez. Fitting for the topic of conversation. Bush was, once again, the exact same. People only care when approval ratings are favorable to "their" choice as President. If Obama had a great approval rating, I bet you'd suddenly care.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) Primarily, yes. I have probably between 100 and 200 movies on various DVD's and BluRays. First hesitation is, can I even get them digitized onto a drive, in such a way they will actually play and not have a protection issue (some discs have this I think)? Second issue is, movies are huge files, and I'd only be able to put maybe one on a tablet type device, I think. You can, easily, but it's time consuming. And yes, after you have it done, they are simply mp4 movies set to whatever quality you ripped them as. You can use Handbreak and VLC to rip/decrypt dvd's and blurays.

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) I looked at that. Does shaving take longer? It does at first, because of how damn sharp they are. And when I mean sharp, I mean actually for really real razor sharp. By comparison, other "razor blades" shouldn't be called razor anythings, because they're dull and tend to pull hair vs slicing through it like butter. It's so sharp, that you can put the razor against your cheek and allow the weight of the razor itself to shave you...as a matter of fact, pressing down is how you cut your face off. Now that I've been doing it for a few years it's about the same. The reason I actually tried these was because traditional disposables and electrics gave me severe burn/bumps. I have sensitive skin on my face/neck, and this solved that problem for me.
-
I shave with an old school DE murkur, with razors that are actually sharp, and not these crap disposables. Murkur Classic was 34$. 100 razor blades was 18$. Needless to say, I haven't bought any refills for years.

QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 11:34 AM) My dad has has gone from iPhone 3G -> iPhone 4 -> iPhone 5, but is really interested in switching to Android. He isn't necessarily going to do it right away, but I tell him about my phone and the phones I've looked at and he's intrigued. His best friend from far away came to visit and had a Galaxy Note 2 and he's been envious ever since. I wonder what the best phone for him would be? Maybe it's the Note - he can see pretty well, but it wouldn't hurt. I think he'd have to have an earpiece or else he would be embarrassed by the size up against his face, lol When it comes to parents, and non tech savvy people alike, I don't care how envious they act, give them an iPhone and save yourself the headaches. As the solitary "IT guy" in my entire family, anyone I've switched to Apple has ceased calling me for help. Every last Android user/Windows user calls constantly with some "issue" that isn't even an issue, or it's something they caused and "don't know what they did". Android if fine for tech savvy people or people I don't have to help.

QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 11:37 AM) I like it. I actually think Google+ is really cool, there just isn't really anyone I know using it. Places like ESPN have required Facebook for comments and it is far less s***ty now. It's still s***ty, but not nearly so bad. I actually like G+ better than FB, but it's a barren wasteland. I can't say I really like the change, but I don't really care, either. Some people don't want their G+/real lives as easily connected to YouTube, I know I don't. Then again, as with all free services supplied by someone, deal with it...or stop using it.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 11:39 AM) A lot. Not one lot, but a lot. I'm too risk averse for this...simply because of the lay. To keep numbers low and simple: Buy 100 shares of Twitter at 47 = 4705$ including trade commission (let's be generous and say the trade commission was only 5$) Sell 100 shares of Twitter at 50 = 5005$ including the same trade commission. That's a quick profit of 300$ Now, subtract 30+% on short term cap gains, so let's call it a profit of 210$. So, you essentially laid 4705$ to win a bet of 210$. I simply cannot do this type of trading. Edit: Of course, I understand that it's not like Vegas where it's a zero sum game, either win the 210$ or lose everything, but it does have a potential loss into the thousands. I expect Twitter to draw back much like Facebook did after it's buzz wears thin, and unlike Facebook, Twitter is quite far from posting any sort of profit.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) Intermune ($ITMN). They research and manufacture drugs for pulmonary and fibrotic diseases. Esbriet is their latest drug they are running trials with. Man, I don't know about this one -- leveraged to the hilt (over 75% debt to asset ratio), and a negative 700% yearly profit margin? If that drug fails trials, that company is going to 0.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) I caught a 2.50 move in the first few mins. I'm going home happy. What kind of share count are we talking here.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 10:03 AM) The LG G2 is $199 off contract on Amazon today. For Verizon and AT&T I still think you have the best Android phone there is, and it's the only one I recommend people get.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 07:34 AM) I think there's potential for some profit in the very short term but it will pull back rather quickly. They have not proven to be able to make money yet or take advantage of advertising. I was going to invest if the IPO price was closer to 20 but at that price I'd rather put the money I had earmarked for it into a Biotech I've been watching. Probably a good long term stock to own if you're willing to hold on for a while. Agreed. What's this biotech?

Not sure if any of you have seen this or heard of them (or if already posted), but I'll share anyway. Pentatonix. Note, as an a cappella group, they use no instruments, and make all the sound/music with their voices...I find this band incredible.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) I've done this before. It's great until you have to update those apps. It's been a while since you've done it. You no longer have to log back in as that user to download the updates (not that this was very hard), it just prompts you for that users password to authorize the update these days. Takes about 8 seconds.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) Help Soxtalk. I'm considering getting a smart phone (or normal phone as it is now) and getting rid of my dumb flip phone. Besides the obvious iphone, which everyone knows about and my wife has, I don't know the first thing about different phones available. I don't need the fanciest one out there. I'd be using it for texting, checking sports scores (and twitter for sports), maybe watching games?, some email. I'm sure there are apps I don't know about that I could take advantage of, but I'll be more or less pretty basic with the phone, just having internet capability etc. I'm open to any opinions on which direction I should look to go here, ones to avoid, etc. I know I can do research on this as well, but getting first-hand knowledge instead of reading specs on a website is a lot easier. TIA. Edit: Not looking for this to bring out the iphone vs other pissing match...just want honest opinions/reviews. I only know some about the iphone from my wife, and know nothing about other ones. I have zero brand loyalty, so it doesn't matter to me either way. If it matters any to this, I'll likely still be using ATT for service. Worth noting: Being that your wife already has an iPhone, if you went with an iPhone yourself, you can login to your phone with her iTunes account and download any apps/music she's already paid for without having to repurchase it for yourself. You can then log her off, and log yourself back in with your own account, and all the apps she's purchased will still run. If she's already significantly invested into the Apple ecosystem, you can leverage that investment free of charge to yourself. There are a lot of good phones out there these days, it's less about the phone and more about the ecosystem you want to buy into at this point.

Well, I hope you are all doing better now...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) But seriously though, it really is impressive that AT&T was literally able to merge with every single company that was created when Ma Bell broke up. It's close...
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) Um...yeah, that already happened. Almost, but not quite. We have some competition these days, in the form of ATT vs Verizon vs Sprint vs Tmobile vs US Cellular, etc... That's better than, say...having JUST AT&T. You're cell phone bill would be 1k a month right now if that was the case.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) I've definitely put in 70 hour weeks before. When I first started at my current job, I averaged about 55 a week for a year. 60+ hours is draining when its week-after-week-after-week. Mistakes get made, productivity drops, things get missed, etc. When you're dealing with a job that's often monotonous and repetitive like driving a truck can be, it's even easier to lose your focus and concentration. Interesting... So, I've always wondered this, and I have to ask -- when you were doing this, did you ever say to yourself, "Wow, this is like working 1.5 jobs for the pay of 1?" I know people that make good money (subjective), and for sake of an example, let's say they make 100,000$. Sounds great when they tell people they make 100k, but knowing their schedules, I always say to myself, "Actually, you make 50k, and work two 50k jobs, since you work 80 hours a week".

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) Duke is arguing for a "perfect world" free of government interference. You know, no more pesky, freedom-killing things like anti-trust laws. Oh, so he wants Ma Bell back...
-
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) I know, thats one of the things that bothers me when I wonder why liberals didnt just move instead of having to stay here and ruin America. Yes, but on the flip side of that coin, there are also zero laws that say other countries have to take you.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) Monopolistic control of a market is the goal and end-point for any capitalist firm. Go back to less-regulated times (Gilded Age) to see how much competition there really was. This isn't really true anymore...because the second you get dubbed a monopoly, you are shattered into tiny pieces now. Laws changed this view pretty drastically.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) And a private company would have the right to determine what the appropriate rate would be to use the benefits it provides, yes? That's not quite the same.
