  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 12:24 PM) I'd say she's lucky that the kid wasn't killed as well, not the police. She was the one who put the kid in harm's way. She was the one acting crazy and trying to kill people with her car with a child passenger. Why doesn't she get the blame instead of the police officers who are trying to save numerous lives? If she had a gun, there would be plenty of blame, I'm sure. But she was only armed with a 1+ton weapon, instead...so this is obviously the fault of the 5-OH, b****!
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) Lack of access to healthcare is a lifetime problem. Just because people w/o insurance can head to the emergency room when they are near death to prevent that death, this does not change the fact that they are systematically prevented from good health. Go speak to some homeless people and see how many of them have developed physical disabilities. I have to wonder how many people become homeless because they were unable to treat conditions that prevented them from working. If only. You can head to the ER if you have a sliver. Or a cold. Or a runny nose. I see you've never been to a f***ing ER to have even said this ridiculous nonsense.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) This is very true, but I'm just concerned that my body is depleting muscle due because of insufficient nutrition. HIGHLY doubtful. But again, living here, this is easy to fix. Start eating more.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 12:12 PM) I'm sensitive to the fact they thought she may have had a car bomb since she was trying to drive up to two different landmarks. I'm not sensitive to the fact that because police are in a life threatening job they are allowed to be bad at their jobs. And in this situation, you're NONSENSETIVE because they WEREN'T bad at their jobs. Do not cross go, go directly to bad.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 12:07 PM) I'm not eating nearly enough to gain the muscle I'm looking to gain. This is a problem. Sounds like an easy to fix problem.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) She had already run over two law enforcement officers. How many does she have to run over before it's OK to shoot her? Yea...seriously. To the person that asked this question, become a police officer, then talk your calm game. If that's me, and a crazy f*** is ramming into gates, hitting people, and whatever else isn't being reported, and it's between him/her and me seeing my family again, f*** that, I'm shooting. I'm not even a police officer, and I'm getting real sick and tired of people armchair quarterbacking legit police decisions. Why couldn't have they have done, X, Y and Z...maybe it's because the people they deal with, are dealt with so YOU never have too deal with them. Sure, there are stories about police using excessive force, and unnecessary force, but those stories garner readers...the other 100,000 stores you never read, because they were never written, the force WAS necessary, and legitimate. This is the problem with modern media. They have most of you believing the US is an all out war zone...when it's safer now than it's E V E R been. TL;DR: Yea, it's the trigger happy police officers fault...not the crazy b**** that was convinced Obama was her stalker, who set off red alerts at the white house/capital building. Nope, not her fault.
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) Are you telling me those 15 minute ab commercials on tv aren't legit?!? Anywho, just finished my leg day, it's my least favorite thing in the world then it becomes my favorite thing in the world once I'm done with it. Why do 15 minute abs when you could do 14?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 09:52 AM) A problem for other people? Are you in a townhouse or apartment complex where wiring is shared? Even then this wouldn't cause problems for anyone else, only for him. The signal would only weaken at the point of the split, he probably has a -7, -7, -3 split...but it's a technical impossibility for that to cause problems for anyone else. That's simply not how RF works. These installers don't know what they're doing, because they're contractors and poorly trained, and/or do not give a s***. I did all my wiring on my own, they're so bad. When I moved in, they had DirecTV hooked up, and even that was terribly run/crimped. I redid all of it, but used the same wires DirecTV had run through the house initially, only for Comcast. As for your cat chewing your wires, that's not his fault...and since DirecTV uses the same exact type of wires, maybe you need to b****slap your cat, because it sounds like you are just going to have the same issues again if DTV runs new wiring and your cat decides to chew it up, not even DTV will re-run wires for free.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) For me, I need to take carbs+protein after a workout because I need to be full and the protein helps me with that. I've also found that the added protein helps me with soreness. Some people just drink a shake and s*** it all out immediately. Seriously. Yea, this is much different, especially considering you know your body, have solid workout experience, and know your eating schedule, etc. A lot of people just down shakes regardless of timing, or even questioning why they're doing it, or if they even need to do it. They saw it on TV or something, so it must be what you have to do!
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 06:04 PM) This is why we need more armed citizens
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) We're slowly becoming Somalia. You mean without all the crime. These stories make it sound like the US is an absolute war zone, but statistically, it's never been safer to live here.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) Talk about apples and oranges (no pun intended). How often do you have to call the manufacturer of your mobile device? In 4 years I never had to. You are the exception to that rule. I know a LOT of people, including Apple users, that have needed their phone replaced via warranty repair. And Apple is pretty damn customer friendly when it comes to this compared to most. The point is, just because someone gets higher customer satisfaction results on surveys, doesn't mean their competition isn't viable, nor does it mean there aren't people that actually prefer it. I prefer not needing a dish on my house, and not needing a separate provider for my Internet service. I already rely on Comcast for Internet, so I may as well just use them for TV, it's just easier for me...and I got a really great package to boot. The issue with Comcast for most is that they use crappy cable installers (they farm out the work to contractors), but I've seen some of the DirecTV wiring jobs, and they're not much better.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) I've been really happy with ATT's U-Verse internet. It's run on their fiber optic network. I've never had an outage in 2 years and really have never had a problem with speeds dropping. It's also nice because the modem and wireless router are in the same box. How fast is it? In my experience, Uverse is dogs*** slow. There is a speedtest from Chicago to LA (~1700+ miles), it's why I stick with Comcast...I'm pretty much forced to use their Internet, because it's amazing.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) Yeah, I get out the door DTV Genie + Comcast internet for around $150. It's the best of both worlds, there's no reason to put up with Comcast's crap. They finally released a DVR that can compete somewhat with the Genie and the Hopper (the X1) but it still has one fewer receiver and they still charge way too much for extra boxes. The Genie clients are amazing and as previously mentioned - the size of a coaster. And of course Comcast can NEVER compete with satellite when it comes to HD feed. Picture quality is, you know, important. They all compress MPEG4 these days, so the comparison is negligible. Some people will claim Comcast is better, others will claim Dish is...if either are better than the other, you'd need to be a videophile with 20/10 vision to notice.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) My DTV boxes are about the size of a coaster. They are also RF so you can hide them behind wall mounted TV's. Its pretty awesome. Definitely still need Comcast internet though, DSL from ATT blows. Those are Genies, not full on DVR's. Mine is a full on DVR a few inches longer than a 12oz water bottle...they're pretty compact these days. My brother just left DTV for Comcast, and he's getting the new copycat technology they have that works exactly like the DTV genies. He has 1 DVR and a bunch of small wireless boxes.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) FWIW they've recently added ATT U-Verse as a bundle partner. They offered me 45 mb service with the offer I stated above for a total of $151/month. But i'm currently getting a crazy good deal with u-verse ($29/month for 24 mbs for 6 months) so i'm going to wait. Plus you have to deal with that awful menu system comcast has. Hello, 2002! Their menu system is pretty much the same as DTV's now a days. Welcome to 2013. I'm not sure which Comcast boxes you people have, but it sounds like you need to bring them in and get them updated. This is what my HD DVR looks like: I placed a water bottle in front of it to show the size.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) DirecTv consistently gets the highest customer satisfaction ratings. And Apple gets consistently higher customer satisfaction ratings than any Android supplier. Yet you use Android.

    2013 TV Thread

Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal? I have had DirecTV and Comcast in my life, I don't find the customer service of either to be particularly good, but as it stands, since I need Comcast for Internet service, there is no compelling reason to need two providers when one can do the job. I have the following: (About 5 of each of these channels) HBO SHOWTIME STARZ MAX ENCORE REDZONE/Sports Package Extended basic, which means every channel not considered premium (which I have all of) 2 HD DVRs (the new tiny xfinity ones) 1 standard TV connection for my bedroom TV Modem with 50mbit/10mbit Internet Phone 149$ a month AFTER tax. If DirecTV could come close to beating that when I add in the cost of Internet service, I'd switch. When they had the chance to match that offer, they couldn't do it. So ... DirecTV sucks and Comcast rules.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) Speaking of TV provider customer service, man oh man do I love DirecTV. Just got off the phone with them after 45 minutes. My 2 year contract expired last week and I called to see what kind of promotions were available. The first guy I talked to offered me a few things, a free HD-DVR box, 10 bucks off a month, some additional content for basically free, etc. But I wasn't thrilled with any of them. Because I didn't like what he was selling HE offered to send me to the retention department where they "have more room to work." Talked to the guy in the retention department for 25 minutes, not haggling, but just talking about what they wanted to GIVE me. I didn't ask for anything other than "what can you do for me?" At the end of the day I basically got treated as a brand new customer with additional incentives. I got the Genie system (sadly i signed up with them like 6 months before that launched), I got the new customer pricing, an extra 10 bucks off hbo and showtime, I got Sunday ticket free (2nd time in 3 years) and I got to keep my current 2 receivers (in addition to the 2 new genie boxes) without having to pay the 6 bucks a month for each. All and all, a VERY happy customer. Comcast sucks, I hate them, but they gave me all that same stuff, I get Redzone, since Sunday Ticket doesn't exist, though, not that I want it. Redzone is where it's at. Oh, I hated DirecTV when I dealt with them just as much.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Why would Democrats want to actively halt the destruction of the GOP? It's all cyclical. In the early 1980's, Carter all but destroyed the DNC, 30 years later, the opposite looks to be taking place. The GOP will only die in it's current extreme form, but will rise and be recreated again, just as it always has.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) Like when Bill Clinton was running budget surpluses three consecutive years? What happened after that? Too bad they never paid down any of the debt even when they had budget surpluses.
  23. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) Deductibles don't count. That's how a s*** sandwich tastes like a reuben. They sure as hell count if you ever actually need to use your insurance.
  24. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 03:02 PM) Who says consuming protein with carbs post-workout is not beneficial? Ok, sorry, had previously typed this on my phone, so let me elaborate now that I have a keyboard in front of me. It's not that it's not beneficial to take protein post workout, it's that it's not *necessary*. It's necessary to get carbs post workout, as your body is the perfect place to utilize them to maximum potential for recovery. So long as your body is being supplied with ample protein throughout the day, the muscle rebuilding process will take place. Post workout there is a small window (30-60 minutes) to take carbs and use them to max benefit...while no such restriction exists on protein intake. That said, if post workout happens to be the time you usually take protein along with carbs, by all mean, do so. But the timing in which you take protein after a workout is the myth we are talking about. A lot of people claim it's necessary to drink protein post workout, it's not.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) I've worked for privatly and publicly owned corporations, two non profits, and now the state government. I can say I worked hard for all of them. I didn't change how I did my job based on who owned the company. Well, that's a lie. I worked my ass off for my own company a bit more. As would I, and as SHOULD everyone. Unfortunately, in both private AND public positions, they're sometimes filled by bad/lazy employees. The private sector just seems to blow through bad employees a bit easier than public...they tend to shuffle them around, instead of getting rid of them, as firing union employees is always harder.
