  1. Great game, Gansey was fouled, but WV still has themselves to blame for the missed FTs.
  2. HT - WVU 40, Texas 35 - This game looks really familiar to WV's post season run last year. Actually out hustling and out running Texas in addition to hitting their usual share of 3's. Final - IU 100, Florida A&M 63 - Too many turnovers in some stretches of this one for IU but a lot of different scorers and 16-28 as a team from three range. Good stuff overall, but it doesn't mean much until they take on a big time team.
  3. Just so happens I don't gotta work tomorrow, and... Chaminade vs. #4 (at the moment) Michigan State - 2:30 (eastern) ESPN2, I luv the Silver Swords annual TV appearance. I guess the Spartans can at least go 1-1 vs. Hawaii teams. #9 Gonzaga vs. #24 Maryland - 4:30 ESPN2, this one would be a great sweet 16 game in March. Maui does nothing to mellow Gary Williams out and the Zags outgun the Terps in a great high scoring game. #14 West Virginia vs. #2 Texas - 7:00 ESPN2, Guardians Classic semi, could be another sweet 16 game, great matchup of styles. Texas probably wins but I'll be pulling for WVU. #20 Iowa vs. #8 Kentucky - 9:00 ESPN2, other Guardians semi, another March type game. Rondo can single-handedly fend off Lipscomb, but not Iowa. IMHO, UK's a bit overrated. #10 Arizona vs. Kansas - 9:00 ESPN, Zona's still a loaded team. Kansas will be rebuilding this year with loads of inexperienced guys, they'll be good before the year's over, but taking on UA this early could get ugly. Arkansas vs. #3 Connecticut - 11:30 ESPN2, looks set up for a Maui semi with MSU vs Gonzaga/Maryland and Arizona vs UCONN. Also tomorrow, but not on TV (in Virginia at least) IU gets a slightly more interesting exhibition game against Florida A&M. I'm a Hoosier fan (born and partly raised in Indiana) but I won't add anything to this MSU/IU fray until Indiana proves they are one of the best Big Ten teams again. (although, if Michigan State pulls a Ralph Sampson in Maui, umm that would be worth a shot or two). Plenty of reasons out there to bash ESPN, but tomorrow isn't one of them.
  4. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) NIT Preview and Analysis: 1st Round Match-ups Duke over Boston University Tonight we'll be able to catch our first glimpse at the 05-06 season with this match-up on ESPN. It will be the first of 73 Duke games on national tevevision this year. And yes they are all the same, Duke players very low-major and wins by 50. No surprises here. Manhatten over Seton Hall Bobby Gonzalez should have his boys ready to play against big conference foe Seton Hall. This win should come at no surprise either for the Jaspers. They are the better team, simply put. Princeton over Drexel But then again, who cares? Alabama over Miami Ohio The Crimson Tide will tear apart the boys from Miami, who will be stricken to middle of the MAC East after taking the title last year. Still though, this remains one of the best first round games for the NIT. Just don't expect it to be close. Memphis over Wisconsin-Milwaukee Although UW-M took some heavy losses, they will still give Memphis a very good game. Calipari and the Tigers have a history of playing down to lesser opponents. A victory for the Panters is certainly not out of reach. Temple over Army Chaney gets another start this year with what should be a crushing of an awful Army team. Nothing much more to see here. UCLA over New Mexico State Reggie Theus faces a tough job replacing future Hall of Famer Lou Henson. One bright spot is Elijah Ingram, former MDAA who has transferred from St. John's. In the end though, it won't be very close, as the talented, young backcourt of UCLA will prove to be too much. 2nd Rounds Duke over Manhettan Not much hope for the Jaspers going up aganist national power Duke. Bobby G should have them hang in there for a bit though. Missouri over Princeton What a pitiful regional this was. No way should one of these teams advance to New York while Alabama, Memphis, Miami and UW-Milwaukee are all stuck in the same regional. Anyway this should still be a close game. Missouri doesn't always capitalize on their possessions, something Ivy League schools have learned to capitalize on. Expect Princeton to slow the game down considerably but in the end fail to win. Alabama over Memphis Oh man, what an awesome regional final this is. Both deserve to be headed on a plane to New York, but only one can win. I'm in love with Memphis' talent this year, but for whatever reason, I just don't see them beating SEC power Alabama. Ronnie Steele is part of that awesome class of Sophmore PGs, as is Darius Washington. They will be matched-up with one another. This should be one of the best early season games, with the Crimson Tide prevailing. UCLA over Temple This should be yet another great match-up of 2 of the best PG's in the nation. Marty Collins may be a future lottery pick as he leads Temple up against Jordan Farmer, part of that aforementionted Sophmore PG class. Temple won't have the depth to go up against UCLA but it should be another great game. Semi Finals Duke over Misouri In what should be a snore of a semi-final game, Duke will destroy Queen Snyder and Missouri. The Blue Devils will put the Tigers into shame. I would be shocked if heartless Missouri even puts up a fight. NEXT. UCLA over Alabama I luuuuuuuuuuv UCLA's talent this year. Another great match-up of point-guards will be won by Farmer. Should be interesting to see how Bozeman is this year, after he missed all of last season with an injury. Micheal Fey will be the ket down-low for the Bruins. If he can make his stops, UCLA will win this game. Championship Duke over UCLA A throw back game in which maybe the 2 best programs of all-time go at it. If there is one team in the NIT who can best Duke, it is UCLA. This game will be close all the way through. In the end though, UCLA will have no answer for powerful big man Sheldon Williams. I like your analysis, especially concerning your take on Mizzou. They will have trouble with either second round opponent. Princeton has taken down teams a lot better than Mizzou and their style thrives more than usual against inconsistant teams. About Drexel, (and this is simply regional info), the CAA is an up and coming conference (i.e. getting almost to the level of the Missouri Valley conference) and if Drexel gets Mizzou they will at least hang in there the whole way, they have the talent and physical players so they would not be intimidated at all. Only other very slight disagreement would be I'd take Memphis over Alabama, but that's a 50-50 game to me anyway. That one should come in the semifinals in the Garden, it's that good of a matchup.
  5. I got the Colts in this one, if they can't do it with how the Patriots are playing (and are injured) right now, Manning might never do it. I'm thinking something along the lines of INDY 31 - NE 24 with IND jumping out early and NE coming back in the 4th to make things nervous. About the Brady debate, if Brady is a system QB and NE has the perfect system for Brady and that system has won 3 SBs, umm... there's not that much left to argue about. Joe Montana was a system (West Coast offense) QB. Terry Bradshaw was a system QB (use the running game until the defense allows you to go for a bomb over the top). I'm pretty sure Montana, Bradshaw, Brady are not brilliant unfathomable athletes like Vick or brilliant strategy geniuses like Manning. All three are great competitors, great generals on the field and know exactly what they need to do for their teams to win and all three (along quite probably with Vick and P.Manning) are HoFers.
  6. QUOTE(MattZakrowski @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) I saw that on MLB.com, but does anyone know when Rowand and Crede collect their gold gloves? What about Eric Chavez? Everyone knows he's a better defensive player than anyone in the league.
  7. Logic Cubs dickheads on TV and radio
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) Gammons said a few days ago that KW was going to trade a starting pitcher in order to free up payroll to sign PK. Would make perfect sense if that pitcher is El Duque. Would make no sense if it was any of the other 4. Would make more sense if someone other than Gammons was the first to say it. Not being able to resign Paulie, and spending $$ elsewhere, would make sense to diehards like us (who at least think) they know all this GM type stuff. However on the PR side, it would be a bad move if Paulie's not resigned and was viewed as being short-changed by Jerry, et al. If Jerry and KW offer him 5yrs/65-70 and he still goes somwhere else for 5 yrs/75, that's the way it goes; but they better make a damn good effort to resign him. And FWIW, I believe KW understands that, and Jerry will really want to do everything possible for Paulie. Does that mean I think it's 100% that Paulie is coming back, no, but I feel pretty good about it. I believe KW sees that this team has all the ability to be as good, or even better, at least for the next two seasons. If there's a time to open up the budget, albeit within rationality, it's now.
  9. Declare Illinois an independent country. Install The Rally Crede as emperor for life (which is obviously forever). As his first official imperial edict, The Rally Crede will then banish the Cubs and all their fans to Iowa.
  10. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&saf...com+Rally+Crede read the third result that comes up, LMFAO!
  11. Joe Randa Vinny Castilla Eric Chavez Aubrey Huff Shea Hillebrand Placido Polanco umm, I'm sure there were more Other than the collective starting pitching, Crede is the postseason MVP to this point.

Also, along this same category, here's a thread (by smalls2598) back from clinching the division that was really great...http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=40636&st=0
  13. any of you western Sox fans have tickets? should we be looking for ya in the stadium?
  14. This is a really cool story...(if I say so myself) First off, I'm a reporter (mostly sports) for the local newspaper, and was at some fall league basketball games here in Suffolk last night. Two Suffolk schools were playing, one in the 6 pm game, and one in the 8:30pm game, so I had to watch those two games, but not the middle one at 7:15. The cafeteria, right outside the gym, has some TVs, on one of which I was graciously allowed by the high school's AD to watch the Sox game during the 7:15 game, so I saw the first three and a half innings before having to go back and watch basketball. During halftime (which is only 5 minutes because this is a practice, preseason league) of the late game, I went back out to the TV and it was the bottom of the 5th right after Graffanino's error. I saw PODS AB and was sick, all he needed was a ground ball to get it to 4-3, COME ON! So Iguchi was up, and a couple pitches into his AB, the horn goes off back in the gym, so I gotta get back in there to see the second half, one more pitch, I can watch one more pitch, and (I contained myself pretty well). After the basketball was done, I heard the bottom of the 7th on the radio driving home, and saw the last 2 innings back at home.
  15. Score first and make Boston's starters throw a lot of pitches early (to make them use 3 or 4 bullpen guys each game)
  16. Great post smalls. My dad, and his dad before that, are the reasons I'm a lifelong Sox fan. Fortunately I've enjoyed this season, and now the playoffs, right along side my dad. Baseball is a great sport in that way, there's no other sport that has such deep family connections, I don't really know why that is, but it's definitly the case. I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm sure (like has been said by many others here) your pops is able to see and love this just like all of us right now. To your Dad To all dads who never gave us a choice but to be White Sox fans reddy, "personally this is my favorite post of the year. amazing. my heart goes out to you and lets win this thing - for all those who never got to see it in life. lets let them see one now."
  17. I don't hate Timo at all. I just don't think he shouldn't be hitting 5th in the order.
  18. Someone want to fill me in with what was so wrong about Rowand batting in the 3rd spot? I know he doesn't hit the usual number of HRs a 3rd place hitter does, but I thought in a "Robby Alomar in his prime" way, Rowand fit the bill pretty well, especially when Pods and Gooch are getting on base at a good clip. (and not that Rowand is R. Alomar in his prime, but anyway, it's the best we can do right now) PODS Gooch Rowand PK AJ Dye Crede Perez Uribe
  19. Is it more important that Frank plays now with a 10+ game lead in the first week of July, or that he's playing in September and October? A day or two off every week is necessary and smart, especially given the sizeable lead over Minnesota and Cleveland. Having Rowand and Gooch sit as well was a bit upseting, I know Ozzie likes to keep everyone involved and that's generally a good style, but doing it to that extent in the first game of series after a day off? Ehh, oh well.
  20. I have tix for Sat. and Sun. which I'm 90% sure I'll be at, as far as Fri and Mon, it all depends on work. If there's going to be a gathering somewhere, I'd certainly be interested in knowing more.

  23. GONG! I have full faith in Shingo again. Ozzie just needs to keep finding ways to use him. He's never going to be the #1 closer with Hermy around, but I think it would be ideal if Shingo is a key guy in the 7th or 8th innings (along with Cotts, Politte, and Marte) and then once in awhile if Hermy has come in for 2 or 3 games in a row, then Shingo can go for a save if we need him to. The one problem I have with our pen right now is that we really don't have a true long relief guy (although Viz somehow got the job done last night for 3 innings). I feel if a starter gets bombed out in the first couple innings of a game one night, we'd have to run through our whole pen and then our bullpen would be dead if either that game goes to extras or we need a lot from the pen the next day or two. Cotts was slated to be the long relief guy at the start of the year, but now he's too valuable doing what he's doing. Right now it's thank God our starters keep on kicking ass, and/or pray Vizcaino somehow do what he did last night. (we need a Japanese flag smiley for Gooch and ShingoTime)
  24. Gobble comes in, 7th inning over, still 3-1 KC
