Got around to reading it….fans really should boycott this franchise.  Reinsdorf has to sell

Yeah. The only silver lining to this dogcrap season was the fact that national reporters and writers came in to truly see the truth behind Jerry's archaic operation. He's been concealing this for so long, which is likely the reason for his constant "in-house" hires or "loyalty" to his employees approach. Deep down he knew his methods would be deeply criticized if ever exposed. Welp... they are offically exposed! It's everything we anticipated with the ineptitude of this franchise year after year.

Jerry must sell now!! BOYCOTT that loser!

That's true.  The KC Chiefs got their stadium renovations voted down and they've won 3 Super Bowls in the last 5 years.  But, just like the way he runs his baseball team, Jerry thinks it's still 1991.  He's totally out of touch on both.

Jerry and the Wirtz family have apparently managed to come up with $7B in private financing to redevelop the parking lots around the UC.   But he can only come up with $200M toward the 78 ballpark development?

And yeah, Rusty may have a point about this being a ruse for getting a new, long-term sweetheart deal at GRF.  That's certainly possible.

When I saw those numbers come out, I thought to myself, wasn’t that Related Midwest on the 78 stadium proposal under $2 billion? So Jerry can invest $3.5 billion on improving the surrounding UC parking lots and not build his own gem on the 78 plot of land? Something isn’t adding up.

  3. What’s the logic behind keeping this toolbag around the remainder of the season? If it’s for financial reasons, that’s laughable. Didn’t  Jerry just spend like $3.5 billion on an infrastructure development plan outside of the United center. Yet he can’t pay 2 managers a total of $2 million dollars? Lol

I love how Jerry has these unwritten rules of “business” as he watches this team continue to burn to the ground and smolder into the deep dark blemishes of everlasting Hell. ?

  4. I think we can all agree that Chris Getz isn’t qualified to be the GM of an MLB franchise. That Fedde/Kopech/Pham deal was BRUTAL. Anyone who argues otherwise is dumb or a friend of Getz. The whole “we should be happy we got this for a guy who wasn’t even in the league last year” take is ridiculous. The Sox had a reliable/effective starting pitcher that many teams wanted, and Getz brings us back a bare cupboard package. Wake me up when Jerry sells our favorite team.

Robert Murray on his Baseball Insiders podcast today starting at 23:50 had some interesting info specifically speaking to scouts, players, agents that he spoken to about Crochet. If he goes to the Orioles, Sox need to get Mayo or Holliday back, sorry not sorry, his upside is insane and this is his first year as a starter

The O’s are prospect hoarders. They are not giving up Mayo or Holliday unless it’s for Skubal. They seem to be obsessing over him.

Sure, but heck of a lot better than Rushing, Ferris and Freeland.

Maybe true.. but there has to be other organizations that can offer something more appealing. Some of the mock proposals I’ve read were so underwhelming. And to be honest, the Sox simply don’t need to trade him now. If other teams are using the innings limit as a way to lower the cost, then don’t trade him. I get the concern, but essentially you’re getting a wicked reliever for the playoff run AND a potential Chris Sale reincarnate for 2025 and 2026. Surely, there has to be more than the low cupboard Dodgers who are interested?

I'd need something like Rushing, DePaula, Ryan/Hurt. Freeland and Outman for Crochet and Pham.  Give them a reliever too if needed.  It would hurt for LAD, but Crochet should be incredibly valuable and they don't have any elite prospects.

A high volume of prospects always seems good on paper, but sox fans are well aware that these large packages often tend to leave very little result. I would rather trade Crochet for Mayo straight up instead of a bunch of low A players with high ceilings. Let’s face it, the Sox don’t have a good track record for developing positional talent. I know I’m being pessimistic, but my faith in White Sox management and development is lacking.

  8. Bob Nightengale , Jesse Rodgers, Ken Rosenthal and Jon Heyman all predict that the Dodgers will acquire Crochet at the deadline. I say the odds are really good they get him. To be honest, I didn’t think they even had enough to get him..Getz dropping the asking price for his crown jewel?

I view this mostly through the lens of “guys are about to get going and SOMEBODY needs to play”

Yep. I expect one of these nothing burger OF signings soon as well. Pham and DeJong about to go bye-bye. They will be missed. lol

Right.  We gave up Robertson for him, I believe.  Maybe Kahnle?? Didn't work.

Yes. Sox got a package back from NY centered around Blake Rutherford for Frazier, Kahnle and Robertson.
I liked the trade at the time. Rutherford was one of those up and coming prospects. He just never panned out. It could have been a combo of the typical Yankee overhype mixed with the fact that the Sox can’t develop for crap.

When the Sox trade for prospects, I immediately hope they are triple-a players, close to the big leagues. Other organizations tend to do a much better job developing the younger players than the Sox do. Perhaps Barfield can change this everlasting trend?
If the Sox do trade Crochet, I want 2 high end triple-a prospects ready for the show. Can’t afford to trade for young projects that will inevitably fail like Blake Rutherford did.

If new ownership arrives in the next two/three years and cleans everybody out it is possible a contention window could be six/seven years away.

It would depend on how aggressive new ownership would be and how much money they would be willing to spend.

Good point. I highly doubt Jerry takes on any more significant contracts (to Jerry’s standards)  Even if he does make it 2027 as the majority owner, and the Sox are ready to round out the roster, Sox fans will likely be pissed off again as Getz will be forced to bargain bin shop.  I’m assuming the timeline of this rebuild is going to be in sync for when Reinsdorf’s children assume the franchise. It will be an easier team sale with zero large player contracts connected. Benintendi’s $$ will likely be Jerry’s last “big” payout to any player. I just can’t see him committing any sort of large $$ moving forward. Especially with his focus on building another stadium.

  12. I think if all goes well, 2027 will be the absolute earliest that this team is competitive again. 6 to 7 years seems pretty ridiculous. Was Bowden being sarcastic or something? Even the last failed rebuild (2017-2019) took 4 years to reach their competitive window. If 2024 is considered year 1 of their unofficial rebuild plan, then theoretically they should be right there in contention by year 2027. Hopefully the White Sox can get a better lottery draw when they are eligible again for the 2026 draft.
Hopefully Jerry will finally open up his big boy wallet then as well to round out the club! Lol Jk. We all know that’s not happening. Gotta pinch those pennies!!

Yea his right arm is incapable of signing but he now does it with his left hand. (That's how I got mine)

He works out regularly and is taking his medication. Both he and Susie (his wife) are doing well. Sold the beach house in N.J. and now live full time in Sarasota.

Wonderful guy to speak with, has terrific stories about his days with the Sox especially the 1990 season, catching Koufax and Ryan, Willie Mays, his days with the Dodgers and the time Koufax and Clemente went nose to nose before a game at Dodger Stadium.

I’m glad he’s alive! Sad about his Parkinson’s though. :( He was the manager of one of my favorite childhood White Sox teams ever in 1990. Didn’t he also get Ozzie Guillen into coaching as well down in Miami? He was a really good manager from what I remember.

The bolded IS my position categorically because THERE IS NO OTHER VIABLE WAY OUT.

Again JR isn't changing his operating philosophy.

    No top shelf free agents

No long term deals for pitchers

    No negotiating with certain agents

Fiscal responsibility when it comes to team payroll

Do you want me to go on?????????????????????

The first rebuild failed because guys constantly were injured AND this is often overlooked JR REFUSED to finish the deal. They had little depth, did not get the franchise changing player (Machado/Harper) and over ruled his front office to bring in TLR.

He thinks his way is the right way, history shows it isn't but that simply doesn't register with him.

    So what can you do?

    1. Outlive current ownership

    2. Break out those VHS tapes and DVD of Sox games/highlights from better seasons

    3. Do EXACTLY what they are doing now, trading anybody worth a damn for prospects and "hope" they can develop and turn the franchise around

    That's all I've got.

Yep.. just like the rebuild led by Hahn/KW from 2017-2019.  And when they finally had enough prospects graduate to the main roster, instead of rounding out the team with superstars and bringing in a legit manager, Jerry put his foot down and said you cannot spend over X amount of dollars!! Pretty lame since the Sox saved $100-$150 million on cheap payrolls from 2017-2019. So Hahn was forced to only bring in “B” level free agents. And Jerry also put his foot down, overstepped Hahn to hire his BFF manager Tony LaRussa.

Getz can likely bring in wonderful, legit prospects who can truly contribute to the future White Sox teams. This rebuild will likely last from 2024-2026. These teams will have super low payrolls. Saving Jerry and the board millions of $$ (Again!!) However, we know the drill. The Sox will be knocking on the door in 2027 to be a legit team. They’ll have a few holes and there will be legit superstars available via free agency, and a 92 year old Jerry will once again put his foot down, forcing Getz to bring in the B level free agents and he will hire his own manager again. Any chance they can bring Jeff Torborg back to life?

This was made painfully clear to me when he said "what else am I going to do? I dont play cards...etc" in his interview last year after he fired Kenny and Rick.

Same. Between that statement  and his lack of effort in finding a more deserving general manager.
Let’s not forget some of his other statements in the past:

"Finish in second place every single year because your fans will say 'Wow, we got a shot. We're in it! ' But there's always the carrot left." (According to Dave Sampson)

And this beauty of a statement:

"Sports is a business of failure but the fact that you finish second or third or fourth it doesn’t mean you had a bad year." -Jerry Reinsdorf

When casual fans at the stadium see a “sell the team” sign, there are plenty of reasons why.

The issue is that the Sox don't get the perks of small market clubs. Can only draft in the top 6 one time instead of twice in a row, they don't receive extra competitive balance draft picks like small market clubs do and they don't get extra money to spend internationally. They're a large market club. They need to act like it.

Excellent post. The new CBA rules really expose those tightwad owners even more, IMO. They can no longer reap the benefits of a true tanking rebuild. Doing this while simultaneously saving $100-$200 million during a span of 3-4 years on super trim payrolls. Doing all this with a “goal” of top 5 draft picks annually.
Obviously the lowest hanging fruit is the fact that Jerry will never spend on a superstar, blue-chip players. However, another major issue is his lack of investment in the scouting department, developmental system and data analyst. The White Sox are so behind, it’s embarrassing. White Sox fans have always questioned Jerry’s commitment to winning. But seriously, is there even a debate anymore? This is more of a business venture/niche hobby for him versus a the obvious goal of winning another championship.
The White Sox are indeed a large market team. Don’t let Jerry fool you other wise behind his $2 billion net worth. Don’t let him cry poor and tell you that he can’t win in the current stadium. The White Sox have plenty of resources to act like a major market franchise. However, a choice is being made not to allocate those resources appropriately.
I can’t wait for the day an owner of our favorite team puts winning as priority #1…

  17. Crazy that this 2021 playoff starting lineup was only 3 years ago:
    Tim Anderson, SS  (DFA’d)
    Yoan Moncada, 3B (IL obsession)
    Jose Abreu, DH  (DFA’d)
Yasmani Grandal, C (barely hanging onto MLb career. Is bad)
Luis Robert, CF (Only bright spot left)
    Eloy Jimenez, LF (IL obsession)
Gavin Sheets, 1B (L) (Bench player)
Adam Engel, RF (out of baseball)
    Leury Garcia, 2B (DFA’d)

    WTF happened these knuckleheads?

The fact that it’s clear no actual managerial search is going to happen is the part that bothers me.

I’d be okay with it as long as they were hyper focused on a legit baseball manager.  Schumaker earned the 2023 NL manager of the year award. He wasn’t a bench coach for a dogcrap team or anything like that.

To your point though, it’d be nice if they added a few more reputable names to a narrowed down search. As of now, he’s the only name being linked to the White Sox. Albeit it’s extremely early in the process and we still have another grueling 3 months of losing baseball ahead of us.

I did not know that, how did they dump him and over what. I know he ripped the 2024 White Sox which everybody and his uncle has.

I still say he would make a good manager somewhere.

He continuously questioned Jerry’s hiring of Getz last year. Brought up Getz poor track record of development of talent when he was the director of player development from 2017-2020.  He also ripped into the 2023 White Sox disaster quite a bit. When he interviewed Kenyan Middleton and Lance Lynn last year on his podcast, both of those guys exposed the dysfunction of the White Sox clubhouse and on field effort last season.

It’s kind of funny and ironic that the manager that let all of that happen last season is still around this season to oversee the worst White Sox team in history. Either Getz is extremely great friends with Pedro from his KC days OR Jerry is very stubborn and refuses to pay two managers at once when this season doesn’t mean anything anyway.

Regardless of the reasoning, keeping Pedro around for two consecutive 100 loss seasons shows you just how low the White Sox standard is. Grifol shouldn’t be allowed to manage these prized prospects that are close to graduating to the main roster. The way he handled Colas last season was embarrassing. The double standard he shows the young guys vs the lazy veterans on this team is a joke.
