  1. I'm guessing Florida turned that offer down in hope to have the Angels offer even MORE... if they don't i can see Michael Hill calling KW and saying DEAL!! If that happens i sure hope KW extends him right away...
  2. Okay what is going on? Yesterday Rowand wasn't coming here (according to Cowley). Today, i read that there is an 'inside source' saying that his agent and the white sox are in talks... I really have no clue in whats going on... But a 10 million dollar/ season would be a STEAL in todays market. And yes KW the market correction won't happen anytime soon... I say KW works something out where he gets garunteed 10 mill/season and it goes up to 12 million in possible incentives.. (hits .300, makes all-star team, certain amount of ABs, RBIs etc....)
  3. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) Rowand/Owens in CF/LF and Dye would be a pretty decent OF for the next few years. With Fields in LF this year, Owens could be eased in as a fourth OF. As long as they don't give Hunter money to Aaron, I'd be all for it. KW pretty much mentioned a couple of times that Fields won't be out in LF next year. Either Fields is dealt as a part of a monster blockbuster deal for Miggy Cabrera or Crede is dealt. Both won't be on the team next year.
  4. QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) I actually kind of agree. I think he has a hope that he can land Crawford or Cabrera, but he doesn't have the chips. I'm getting that feeling that he'll make a move for Crisp, then say they are done. But it's usually when I least expect something to happen that a move is made. I highly doubt Tampa would trade Crawford now since they just shipped off Young. I also am beginning to agree that KW has no plan... Whatever happening to getting a lot of things done BEFORE the Winter Meetings? Im guessing everything he is offering to the other teams is just not good enough... it seems like every trade he has done the past 2 seasons, the other GM came up to him... thats no good.
  5. I wouldn't mind it if the Sox can get Crisp for a reasonable price (NO GIO or DLS!) And then throw in all your marbles at getting Cabrera or Crawford... Maybe that is what he is trying to do afterall... who knows.... I can go for a Crisp Cabrera Cabrera Thome Konerko Dye Crede AJ Richar OR Crawford Cabrera Thome Konerko Dye Crede AJ Crisp Richar If Kenny can significantly improve the lineup without tapping into free agency i would be okay with that.
  6. Hunter was suppose to be coming here-- he didn't. Rowand is supposed to go eleswhere-- I wouldn't be suprised if he came here. Its how the whole negotiations go in free agency. As KW said, its a very tricky thing. KW could call him up today and sign him up for all we know.... After all, i thought we were suppose to get at least "1 big fish" ? I wouldn't call ARow a big fish, but around here and in chicago he is freakin Moby Dick.
  7. The latest has Santana going to the Yankees... Im guessing it will be for Melky Cabrera, Robinson Cano and Phil Hughes... thats only fair for Minnesota as he is the best pitcher in the game...
  8. Sign Rowand tommorow and lets go from there... Then attempt to make a BIG push for either Cabrera or Crawford (either would make our lineup 10 X better) Then i would sign 1 maybe 2 more relievers... Did Yabuta sign with KC yet? I havent heard much... Then i would start accepting offers for both Crede and Uribe... any prospects would help at this point.... And finally... sign a Colon or Garcia. I know, I know they are damaged goods, however, a 1 year deal worth like 4-5 million with major incentives would be worth it IMO. Alittle minor risk- possible high reward move. Even if they don't return until July, it can be a boost to the rotation. ESP if Danks, Gio, or Floyd are struggling.... So yea KW better be no where near done after he gets his "1 guy" whomever it is he is talking about.
  9. From what im hearing, the Dodgers are most likely going to throw a ridiculous amount of cash in Rowands direction. He will be a dodger. KW is going to have to be very creative if he wants some decent OF out there.
  10. I know they wanted to get Linebrink last year. I know they also wanted Crawford the last few years... it cant be Rowand because everyone knows that Hunter was our "#1 target" and Rowand is likely to be the 1B he was talking about. ..
  11. That sucks.. I think he would have helped the pen...
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 06:42 AM) This team would be better off with Miguel Cabrera than Carl Crawford. If you think otherwise, you are foolish. Call me foolish because i disagree with you. Let me ask you a question.. Who is our current leadoff hitter? We already have 2 3b who can hit for power, i dont see the need for Cabrera right now.. Although i would love to have Cabrera over Crede/Fields, we can live without him. We CANT go into 2008 without another leadoff hitter.
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) Injuries are a part of the game and I would not worry too much about Rowand in that regard. After all, as noted, it's how he plays the game. That is different than a guy with some chronic problem that flares up getting out of the shower. 5/60 could be a bargain if he continues to trend upwards, of even stays close to last years numbers. And signing players is all about where they will be in throughout the contract. I'd like to see him back in a Sox uniform next season now that Hunter is gone I agree.. its not like Rowands #s were that much different than Hunter's last year. In fact weren't they better? And we all know what Rowand can do in CF defensively... . $12mill/season for 5 years is a decent deal. You would be saving $15 miillion alone from what we would have gave hunter. Plus im almost possitive KW will try to move Crede, Uribe and Contreras this offseason.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 03:44 AM) The value of a young stud 3 hitter like Miguel Cabrera is so much greater than the value of a speedster leadoff man, it's not even comparable. That maybe so.. but this team already has like 3 #3 hitters.. we need a true leadoff hitter. Miguel Cabrera is awesome don't get me wrong i would take him over any of our power hitters any day, but this team would be much better off with Crawford than Cabrera simply because this lineup does't have enough speed in it.
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 03:38 AM) You are correct, thats my mistake. Even with the new ownership, I still think Crawford would cost a ton, and if they are going to go all out in a trade, Crawford shouldn't be the target. I disagree... Crawford better be the target! I would much rather we give up a ton of the farm for him rather than Miguel Cabrera. This team needs a lead off hitter and he fits the bill perfectly... .315 avg, 80 RBI and 50 SBs... This guy is a pure athlete and he would solve our leadoff situation for the next 3 years...
  16. With this deal occuring, doesn't it make sense to ship Macdougal off? Maybe he will be apart of the Crede deal... or the giant package we are going to give Tampa for Crawford
  17. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) Nice in theory, but much work is left to be done to get into that position. Maybe Linebrink is a piece, but overall this team sucks. Our third-5th starters are Count, Floyd and Danks. While all have (some) potential, it's a very ugly rotation if these guys don't really step up. We also have no leadoff, no CF, questions at 3rd and 2nd and our proven good players are getting older by the day. Its early. I would wait before you start judging this offseason... The bullpen was slightly imporved with the aquisition of Linebrink.. If KW can bring over a japanese veteran like Yasuhiku Yabuta i think that would upgrade our pen tremendously. You figure MacDougal, Thorton can only improve from last years mess and you have Wasserman and Logan on the rise. 2005 was unique because the Sox had 5 veteran starters (Freddy, Jon, Mark, Jose, and El-Duque)... Most of their salary actually went to the starters.. but now with the market going waaay up its almost impossible to carry 5 veteran starters unless you are Boston or the Yankees. You need to eventually have to start developing your starting pitchers... I think Mark and Javy are pretty good 1-2 punch.. And with Jose's uncertainties i really expect KW go out and find another starter. Heres what i think he has left to do: 1 more reliever (Yabuta, maybe Hawkins) 1 more veteran starter (Fogg, Colon, or Garcia?) a Center fielder (Rowand to make his return?) a Left fielder (Does Kenny have enough guts to strip his already bare farmsystem for a can't miss Miquel Cabrera or Carl Crawford?? I hope so..... the fans need an impact player like this) Possibilites: Does Richar start? Does Uribe start at 2nd? Does Kenny get another 2B? Trades: I expect Crede to be dealt... I also expect Uribe to be dealt to hopefully patch up other needs .. Maybe black friday will turn into White Sox friday with some amazing news? I trust Kenny... this is going to be his biggest challenge , but he has done it before and i think he can do it again...
  18. So far most moves this offseason have been surprises.. I expect more moves to shock us this offseason... hopefully the next few will be in our favor. I would love to wake up friday morning to "The White Sox aqcuire Carl Crawford from Tampa Bay for..........." I think KW needs a move like this to happen...
  19. good research bearsox.. he seems like has really good stuff.
  20. There are like 10 teams going after Rowand.. I doubt he'll come back here... We may have an OF of Terrerro, Gonzalez and Dye... OH BOY.
  21. I hope A-Row still has that passion for the White Sox... I'm hearing the Dodgers are pursuing Rowand HARD... I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to another team other than the White Sox... KW may be in trouble here. . .
  22. I didn't see that coming at all... oh well.. i also didn't see the linebrink deal happening at all. I guess it goes to show you that the rumors we hear and read.. only like 15% of them are true. The Angels are going to be damn good next year... PLAN B) How about a standing ovation for the return of Aaron Rowand....
  23. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) From what I have read, he seems disapointed that he does not have a HUGE national recognition. He is nationally recognized, but not to the extent he would like to be. That is due to being on a small market club. So, I think that gives Chicago and LA an edge. But, the wildcard is Texas. He lives only 45 minutes from the Ballpark in Arlington. That in itself could be an incentive. Yea Ken Griffey Jr also decided to go to his hometown team... how is that working out for him? We should really admire that Buerhle took a discount to stay in Chicago instead of going to his hometown St. Louis Cardinals.
  24. If Hunter is about the money he will definitley go to Texas... they simply have more to spend than we do. If he wants to come to a place who can quickly turn it around and start winning i think he'll come here.... only time will tell. I was just comparing teams and the Sox have a better nucleus of players: Konerko, Thome, Dye, Cabrera, Pierzynski. And also, a better rotation (even without Garland) Buerhle, Vazquez, Contreras (big IF of course), Danks, Gio. Oh yea we also have Bobby Jenks.... THe Rangers have a nucleus of Young, Blalock that a bunch of average to below average players. Their rotation of Millwood, Padilla, McCarthy, Gabbard and Volquez just won't win a tough AL west division.... But the only thing really different about Texas' reported offer and the Sox' offer is the extra year.. In reality its pretty much 14 mill/ season for both teams... Do the Sox buckle down and throw in that 6th year? I doubt it....
  25. i really think its 50-50 between the Rangers and Sox right now. . . I just hope Rowand doesn't sign elsewhere first. If he goes elsewhere and Rowand is already locked somewhere we are in big trouble.
