QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) I also think KW has a deal that's almost done. It sounds like the players might be decided upon but some details still need to be hammered out [like money coming back to the sox in a Crede-Damon deal]. Why else would KW be so obvious, he has no reason to play coy or hint about a deal? Exactly.. maybe he's just really excited about it haha. I just hope it isn't like the Omar Vizquel situation.. many sources had him signed with the Sox and all of a sudden he went to the Giants. BTW thank you Omar.. if that never happened... well you know.

With A-Rod most likely heading West (Dodgers or Angels) and with the Yankees having 4 outfielders (Cabrera, Damon, Abreu and Matsui) it only makes sense for a deal with the yankees to happen. I think Jonny Damon will be a southsider next week. The Yankees have already contacted KW about Crede.. and with KW saying that the Fields/Crede issue will be resolved very soon, it sounds to me that a deal has already been done. I hope the Yankees eat about 1/4th the remaining contract, not like they can't afford it with A-Rod leaving. If we get him, where would he play? God I hope LF, his arm just isn't good! An outfield of Damon, Hunter/Rowand and Dye wouldn't be too bad. You have Owens coming off the bench as the 4th OF.. I know im getting ahead of myself but i think this just may work! P.S. Didn't Damon go to high school with AJ?

KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
GreatScott82 replied to GreatScott82's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Who's the FA SS that you would lavish all this big bundle of money on ? Eckstein or Vizquel ? If you want the Sox to make serious improvement at SS then they must make a trade. That means giving up some of the few trading chips that they have plus you want to give up more players that they can't afford to give up in order to get a real good outfielder (and no, Crisp is not one anyway). Doesn't make sense. The Sox need to start signing some players to ADD to their organization instead of dealing prospects and letting good players walk away or get next to nothing for them. The only major free agent they will add this winter will be the CF possition and yes it will be Hunter or Rowand sorry people. I really don't see us dealing away any more major prospects.. well lets be honest the organization really can't afford it. So if we do get a legitmate SS it will be from a trade for Garland or Contreras. Scott Merkin from WhiteSox.com said KW still might even pick up Uribe's option and plug him at 2B for 2008.. thats actually not a bad idea.. but we can probably get equal to more production from Richar out of the 9 hole. If the Yankees are serious about getting Crede then we can acquire Cabrera, plug Fields back at 3rd, aqcuire Hunter, trade for Furcal and we would have one hell of a lineup: Furcal SS Cabrera LF Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Fields 3B Hunter/Rowand CF Pierzynski C Uribe/Richar 2B -
KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
GreatScott82 replied to GreatScott82's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Crisp would be a decent late in the order hitter and a good left fielder. I still think Hunter or Rowand will be signed to play CF even if they do get Crisp. An offseason of Crisp, Rowand and Furcal would be a good one in my eyes... I think the first move will be aqcuirering that new SS. I just hope it is not Tejada.. -
I just opened the latest Sports Illustrated and on page 32 Joe Sheehan of Baseball Prospectus said the Red Sox will most definitley trade Coco Crisp and the White Sox seem like the likely candidate. It has Boston sending Crisp to the Sox for 1B Chris Carter. Carter was third in Class A Sally League with 25 homers. This seems like a KW type move to me... Crisp out in LF sounds good. If KW decides to bring Rowand back we would have one hell of a defensive outfield.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:41 AM) No, they said it might take 10 days. I'd imagine KW is seeing what it would take to get Tejada, Furcal, or someone like Jack Wilson. So should we all be excited that in 10 days or less we will have new shortstop? Furcal is the dude that i want on this team... he would be a decent leadoff hitter or a great #2 hitter. His SBs were down last year but he is exactly what this team needs... What will it take to get him?
-
Now i highly doubt we get A-Rod, but if we do than our payroll would likely be in the $130's-140's for the next 4-5 seasons... does JR take that risk? I would much rather spend $20 mill/ season on Johan Santana than spend 30 mill/season on A-Rod. Pitching wins titles.. look what Boston did with spending big money on Dice-K and Beckett. IF we are to spend big money THIS offseason, i would want it on a CF, (Hunter or Rowand). Next offseason lets make that HUGE push for Santana!!

QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 11:09 AM) There have been only two players in history to have obtained at least the following stats: .300 BA 2500 H 1500 R 1500 RBI 1500 BB 500 2B 500 HR Those two players are Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. Frank Thomas is set to join these two all-time greats this season. KEEP IT GOIN' BIG HURT!! And some analyst were questioning rather he would ever make it the hall of fame... give me a break! After next season his jersey will be retired and he'll have his face on the wall in left field with the other white sox greats.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) I voted for the Red Sox. American League loyalty and karma. We won it the year after they did and will again next year. I was thinking the same thing... can their be a Red Sox- White Sox pattern? 1917 White Sox- 1918 Red Sox 2004 Red Sox- 2005 White Sox 2007 Red Sox?- 2008 White Sox? Hmmmm baseball sure is a sport based on unique patterns and trends.. it would be creepy as hell if this one happened. The Rockies story is a great one for baseball, but the Red Sox will absolutley kill these guys.

haha on that list it says that Albert Belle requested that no music be played. He was such an angry man!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 06:50 PM) Wow, the last thing I expected to see was the Twins re-signing Hunter. That changes the face of the off-season quickly. It also makes the guys who are out there much more valuable. well it hasn't happened yet.. but saying that the Twins value Hunter possibly even more than Santana, that says an aweful lot. If the Twins re-sign Hunter, look for them to get a monster package this offseason for Santana. That leaves Rowand and Jones left, for some reason i can see the Rangers signing Jones. That leaves Rowand for us... i just hope KW doesn't over pay for him. If JD is getting 11 mill/ season, Rowand should at a maximum get 10 mill/season.
-
Its looking more and more like the Twins will re-sign Hunter. http://www.startribune.com/507/story/1479785.html THat leaves Rowand and Jones..since Jones should and will get more money than Rowand, he is the best option for us. His agent is just obviously doing his job. He wont get that deal from anybody! If Hunter wants 5 years for 75 mill to stay in Minny, than Rowand shouldn't have a problem with 4 years @ 11 mil/ season. Maybe up to 48 million in incentives.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) And yet, that Iguchi deal really wound up working out well for them. They got a division out of it. come on, did they really win the division because of iguchi or was it the infamous collapse of the Mets? Gooch did help them for a couple weeks before Utley returned i give you that. Im guessing KW felt bad about the Garcia disaster so he would help his friend out by giving them Gooch. THis team needs speed not another bopper. So if we trade Crede i hope it will be for a speedy guy. Crede for Figgins would be wonderful! That trade almost happened last year while Crede came off his best year, now it might be a stretch, but i know the Angels are hungry for another power hitter and a 3B, maybe they take a chance on Crede?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) Maybe it's me, but I don't think the Phillies are going to be in a hurry to trade for another Sox player with huge injury concerns. good point.. we kind of screwed them with the Garcia deal... I doubt we see another Phillie-Sox transaction this winter. Next rumor.....
-
Lets stay away from trading with the Phils for awhile and try a new team. Whats the point of trading for a guy who will add more to the payroll? If Crede is healthy and that is a big IF, he can definitley match the offensive #s of Burrell. Save that money, put Fields out in left. The first move i would do is trade either Garland or Contreras for some bullpen and/or a SS or possibly even some solid prospects. THe second thing i would do is sign that new CF. However, i wouldn't be surprised to see Crede go this offseason as he is going into his contract season and Fields is waiting... A Garland-Crede package could bring back some good stuff... Okay i really have no clue WTH KW will do... When does Hot Stove start?
-
Awesome..he was doing a great job with the young players in KC.. hell he almost beat us for 4th place! I was hoping he would be our new bench coach but i know bow bad we need to re-establish the farm system.. nice move.
-
How about Garland, Crede and Broadway for Figgins, Shields and Santana.. Then you can put Figgins out in LF, still have room to sign Rowand or Hunter and still have Konerko on the team. Not to mention finally having a decent setup man to get to Jenks... I doubt Pauly would be involved with any deal this offseason but you never know... Any Konerko-Garland package better bring back much more than that.
-
Torre looks to be all but gone. Posada, Rivera and Pettite are all free agents. They will likely keep Posada but Rivera is reported to be shocked that the Yankees haven't approached him for a new contract. Pettite is likely to go back to Houston or retire with his boy Roger. And then we have A-Rod. Im guessing he opts out of his contract and signs with Boston.

QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) Definately...the SS market is weak. I had aspirations of Carlos Guillen but he re-signed. One guy who I am unsure about is Michael Young. I thought he was supposed to be a free agent but maybe I was wrong. Or maybe he had an option. Anyone know if he has an option and if they picked it up? As far as OF...I can see the Sox going after cheaper guys like Mike Cameron, Brad Wilkerson, or even Corey Patterson. Which speaking of a former Cub... If the Cubs don't make a play on Prior. Do you think the Sox should?? I was actually thinking the same thing. A minor cheap risk, that may or may not pay off. Kind of like the Erstad experiment of 2007.
-
The writing is on the wall... if Cleveland wins this series Torre will be fired and he will be an analyst on ESPN's baseball tonight. Girardi will replace him.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) I think the deal is they are so slow as a team, anyone who can run they find interesting. Anyone who can run, play a postion they need help at and makes minimum is beyond interesting. Personally, I don't think Owens would hit more than .255 if he played everday in games that mattered, and with his lack of power, not just homeruns, it would be a below average lead off man. If the free agents get too pricey, maybe KW makes a run at Co Co Crisp. Crisp wouldn't be a bad option. However the Red Sox will be looking to aqcuire a 3b for him as Lowell will be a free agent. Would you trade Crede for him? I wouldn't
-
Owens is going to be our 4th outfielder in 2008.. and that will be a great asset to have off the bench. He's a solid baserunner and if Fields struggles out in LF for whatever reason he can take over out there. Now that Rowand is out of the playoffs I wonder if KW made a phone call? Or is he going to go balls out for Hunter? Stay tuned....
-
I think its safe to say Richar will be our starting 2B next year. If KW can have the minimum contracts at 2B (Richar) and LF (Fields) and with the trade of Contreras or Garland, he can use remaining cash on the CF and SS possitions. Thanx for the memories Gooch (especially that homerun off David Wells in the '05 ALDS) but its time to move on...

Braves cut ties with Jones
GreatScott82 replied to EvilJester99's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Andruw Jones will not be coming here... Its between Rowand and Hunter. I say like 60% Rowand and 40% Hunter. I've been reading many articles saying he lives or grew up in Arlington, Texas. And with the Rangers trading Texeira they have pleanty of money to spend. Now if Hunter wants to take less and play in a field he is most comfortable, he will likely pick the White Sox. -
Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star
GreatScott82 replied to NCsoxfan's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I don't want to see Fields go either. He is young, cheap, and will essentially replace Crede after 2008. Unless a miracle occurs and KW can sign an agent of Scott BorASS. But we will still need a leadoff hitter. Carl Crawford would fit in perfectly... i've been drinking the Crawford kool-aid since 2004 and probably always will because he is such a great athlete. I actually think Tampa would say yes to a deal similar to Fields and Danks... they are both young and have a year of MLB experience. But Tampa also has had a very tight grip on him for a long time and highly doubt they will let Crawford go now. We still are going to need a leadoff hitter and it will most likely need to come from the SS possition. So if Crawford cant be brought over... look for KW to push hard for a guy like Furcall.
