  1. Okay lets say we do the whole Fields in LF experiment next year, that leaves SS and CF to provide a leadoff hitter. You figure Rowand is 60% sure on coming back to play CF, that leaves SS to provide a leadoff hitter... Who can that be?
  2. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Its official. Dye will be back.
  3. I like this move. Especially since Thome is aging quickly we will need a DH in 2009 once he retires Dye will fit the bill nicely. For now he is still playing solid defense.. . This still leaves LF and CF a big ? But this is better than having all 3 OF spots question marks. I do NOT want Fields in LF next year. I want either Owens out there or I hope KW makes a trade to aqcuire a guy like Chone Figgins. Fields should be at 3B or Crede should. KW's 2008 Plans: #1 re-sign Buerhle #2 re-sign Dye #3 get somebody to take at least half of Contreras rediculous contract....... Hopefully Milwaukee gets desperate and tries to swing a deal with us.
  4. How about both with Owens playing LF. I think Rowand could be signed for a reasonable 3 year 21-23 mill range. And Dye could be signed for a similar 2 year 15 mill range with some incentives. I think Andruw Jones and Tori Hunter are out of the question as they will get HUGE contracts from somebody. I think KW will get fancy with some sort of major deal this offseason in regards to Crede and Contreras or maybe even Garland. Like a package for a stud SS or possibly even a guy like Chone Figgins to be our new leadoff hitter. If this happens then he can play LF and Owens could be our super-sub OFer. The question is, what SS is out there to be dealt? KW seems to be very interested in Tejada.. however his health is a concern but so is Crede's. Maybe a Contreras, Crede deal to Baltamore for Tejada? According to Buerhle and the Tribune, KW did say he is going to go after some major names this offseason, well guys like Tejada, Figgins and Rowand would be a nice offseason. Honestly though, i don't know what the hell KW has in mind to improve this team....
  5. ummm where did this bullpen suddenly come from?!? Stone and Hawk were awesome again, making me laugh, great insight on the game. Awesome game to watch tonite.
  6. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 03:11 AM) Typical of the season. Thome, Paulie and AJ can win it. They do nothing. Bad seasons from the three of 'em plus Jermaine of course. I guess Paulie's walk was acceptable. When was the last time Thome hit an 8th or 9th inning game winning hit for the Sox? Thats right its never happend.. lets face it, the dudes not clutch. AJ has proven to be clutch, but he gets too damn excited up there during these situations. Stone and Hawk were very unique tonite together, i kinda enjoyed it. Danks and the bullpen did a heck of a job. One duck snort cost us the game. Westbrook pitched very well. It doesn't get easier tommorow vs Sabathia.
  7. With Ichiru and Byrnes signing to deals, its looking more and more as if the Sox are going to re-sign Rowand. Lets face it, they are not going to spend the big cash on Hunter or Andruw Jones. Its most likely going to be an OF of Dye, Rowand and Owens. Or Dye, Owens and Fields while Crede remains the 3B.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 03:52 AM) And even then I doubt the Sox will get anything exciting in exchange for Joe. Well if Joe has a great spring training and is showing that he is 100% healthy, i can see MANY teams very interested in him. I know the LA Angels have made a few inquiries about him over the past 2 seasons. Well with that being said, i would LOVE getting Chone Figgins over here. It might take more than Crede to get him over but i think KW can swing a deal. Figgins wouldn't be too bad in LF and it also spells our leadoff hitting issues. Figgins in LF, Owens or Rowand in CF and Dye in RF is fine by me I just don't want to see Fields play LF. He is and should be our 3b of the present and future.
  9. This whole Tejada inquiry made it obvious that KW is seriously looking to improve the SS position going into 2008. With that being said, do you guys think KW will focus harder on improving that before anything else? I wouldn't be surprised if KW goes after a guy like him or Renteria in the offseason. . If i was him i would focus HARD on that bullpen before anything else. I know it has been improving as of late, but we can't go into 2008 with a big question mark for the pen.
  10. ahhh its nice to have a week-end like this... Gavin pitched superb, Owens and Richar are fun to watch and the veterans are showing life together for the first time all season.. I think im going to have fun watching the rest of the season...
  11. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) For crying out loud WHAT TOOLS? What am I missing? His room service, batting practice fastball? Inconsistent motion? Big "hook" of a curve? Not only that, but he exudes a lack of confidence. He really makes you think he doesn't want to be on the mound, once he gives up his first hard hit ball. It doesn't even have to be a hit. If the Sox weren't in such desparate shape, he'd have had his ticket punched a long time ago. I agree, Floyd has shown me no promise. This guy will not make it in the big leagues.. Honestly i would give him one more start to see what he can do... he has proven to be a great batting practice pitcher and that is all. Why not just start Massett? At least he thrown 1 good game starting this year vs the Cubs earlier in the season.
  12. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?SearchBo...+sox&t=tvid enjoy! What a difference 2 years can make but still one of my favorite white sox videos.
  13. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) And I know the hang-up in this case is money, but remember Pods' $3 million or so, Crede's $5 million or so, Jermaine Dye's $7 million and Jose Contreras' $10 million figure to be shaved from the 2008 payroll, or at least the latter two's. Well it as of right now, it appears JD isn't going to be traded. With that being said look for the Sox to re-sign him. Look for Rowand to come back and I expect Owens to take that final OF spot in LF. Say goodbye to Pods, Erstad, Anderson, and Mackowiack. Jones and Hunter are going to ask for an arm and a leg, and we know how reluctant the White Sox are to spend big money.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) I think that you can likely write in Fields and Owens into at least 2 of the spots. I really can't wait for the Fields left field experiement to begin!
  15. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) Personally, I would bring back Pods under the condition that the contract is loaded with incentives. Give him a motivation to steal and increase a low salary. No team is going to sign him with how injury prone he has been. As for Dye, I would pay him about 3 million less than what he is making at the moment and again, load it with incentives. Perhaps bringing back Rowand would be a good idea, because then you have the outfield solidified. Pods/Rowand/Dye I think Fields is a beast at third base, if not better than Joe Crede, who I'd trade for a bag of baseballs as well as Jose Contreras. Boy that looks familar... haha Pods needs to go. He can't be relied on as our leadoff hitter. He has spent waaaayy too much time on the DL. Unless he wants to sign a 1 year deal worth around $1million. . At least we know now that Owens can get on base at the MLB level and if god for bid something happens to Pods again, Owens is right there. I wouldn't mind bringing back Dye . You can tell he is not injured anymore at the way he is playing Defense and the way he is running and hitting the ball.. if would take a decent 2 year deal- than by all means do it. Rowand- just bring him back. The fans have been crying hard enough over the last few years and we know KW does listen to the fans when it comes to signing guys- look at Buerhle and Konerko.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) expanding the payroll, no farm system.. Ask the Yankees and Cubs how that is working for them. Well the Cubs are in the race and the Yankees are getting back into the race.
  17. At this point, Jose proved he couldn't turn it around before the trade deadline. And he is on pace to lose 20 games this year. To avoid the embarrissment I would definitley throw him in the bullpen. THe only problem is, it takes him an hour to warm up according to Ozzie. You can't have him begin warming up in the 2nd inning every game. I would honestly send him down to triple-a to fix himself. NO team is going to trade for him with his ridiculous contract. That is right, we are stuck with the guy. But why keep throwing him out there when Gavin Floyd still is unproven? I would much rather him start the rest of the year to see if he can turn it around at the MLB level. KW and OG need to know whats up with this guy. I mean if a 24 year old lost to a 21 year old Danks is ST and when he comes up here gets his butt kicked, what makes them think he can be a good starter in this league? Well if we take out Jose, and put him in the rest of the year we can find out.....
  18. Lidge would make one hell of a setup man for Jenks... I highly doubt Houston would give him up unless they get a top-rated prospect or perhaps a possition player who is under contract for another year or two.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) So we can expect a $130M payroll next season? why not? The Sox have been averaging about 30,000+ a game since the beginning of 2006 and they didn't spend much last offseason... Lets face it we are a large market team now and the White Sox have made pleanty on revenue since 2005, time to spend some cash. What other way do we improve? Our farm just isn't producing the talent we need, and if we make any trades, chances are it will be one of either Garland and Vazquez and that will weaken our rotation. Lets face it, the only way we get better is if we spend the money.
  20. The three guys KW will strongly pursue are Rowand, Byrnes and Eckstien. He will try to re-sign Iguchi and if not they will give that kid Richar a chance to make it. I expect to him to make a strong push for Julio and Linbrenk to patch to bullpen as well. I don't expect many trades to occur, unless a team STRONGLY WOOs KW for Vazquez or Garland. Or perhaps Iguchi might be on the move perhaps for a solid prospect or a reliever to make room for Richar. If Richar doesn't make it the rest of this season, KW would probably then go after Castillo to replace him. My official prediction summary: (BEFORE THE DEADLINE:) Iguchi traded for a solid prospect OFFSEASON: KW re-signs Dye to a 2 year deal for about 8.5 mill/season Free agents- Rowand, Eckstein, Byrnes, Julio or Linebrenk (or both) and maybe Castillo Trades- He'll shop Contreras and will hope to give him away to dump his salary I think they will hang on to Crede, whats the point of trading him now when his value is low. Let him make an attempt to make a strong comeback as he approaches free agency, this may benefit us.
  21. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) He has been coming through this year for sure. Buerhle-Garland and Vazquez are three pretty good parts to the rotation. Next year danks should be better and we will see who #5 is. Danks will be the #5 starter. KW has an obsession with a top of the line starting 5.. i can see KW go after a veteran starter via free agency. I know many are expecting either Garland or Vaz to be traded but dont i see that happening.
  22. Whats Shingo been up to? It can get much worse than it is now can it?
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 05:15 PM) Absolutely...he makes getting a hit seem so difficult, and his defense has been mediocre this year. It would be one thing if Uribe was stellar at defense while he's hitting at .210. But his defense just has been mediocre to poor all season long. I hope who ever we get for Contreras, a solid SS prospect is involved in the deal. Changes better be made damn soon.
  24. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) I agree with Mack as leadoff. Did anybody catch the Saturday Twins/Sox game here on FOX? With Ryne Sandberg in the booth? He had some interesting things to say about Terrero: big, strong guy; multi-tool player, lots of potential. Problem was, he all but said that Terrero was the definition of a guy who looks good ability-wise but will never be able to put it together and be a great player. I guess he knew him from Arizona. We seem to have a gift for acquiring players that are all potential but never realize it (hello, AAAnderson). What's so frustrating is that the starters have been great this year; Vasquez is proving his worth, Danks was a lucky find (okay Contreras is on his last legs)... but our offense and bullpen keep screwing them. yep if our starters pitched like this in 2006 we just may have repeated. But it is what it is, the starters are the one strong suit to this team. Everything else needs to be mega-retooled. I've been a fan for 20 years and this is by far the worst bullpen and outfield i have every seen on the Sox.
  25. Ichiru has officially re-signed with the mariners. The Sox will NOT pony up for AROD and even though Hunter said "he likes playing in the Cell" he will cost too much for KW and JR's liking. This team will go after guys like Castillo, Rowand and Byrnes in the offseason and i honeslty can see KW getting all of them. As far as Crede goes, he will finish off his contract with the Sox and hope to up his value as he heads into free agency. The Sox can benefit from this as he hopes to rebound fast from his back troubles. Fields will spend 1 more season in Triple-A or he will battle out for that final outfield spot with Sweeney in spring training. My biggest question is the SS possition... does KW take that $5million option on Uribe? Or does he make a trade and aqcuire a younger SS? I can see us getting a new SS this season as a part of a deal with either Dye of Contreras... We will starting seeing moves within the next week or so...
