  1. The season is over guys. Don't give yourselves false hopes. However, it will be fun to spoil the season for Cleveland or/and Detroit and watch Minny win another Central title while Seattle wins the WC. Hahaha wow that would be funny. I know its a sad day when you have to cheer for your team in hopes of spoiling division rivals and all but the 2007 season itself has been sad.
  2. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) He wouldn't, but I am not ready to throw in the towel yet either. I sure was tempted when the Twinkies beat us 20-14 and 12-0 on Friday, but we bounced back Sat and Sun. Anyway I just bet we have a trade or two, but not a fire sale and this team can still compete. It could be a fun ride this second half if they come together. They are finally starting to hit the ball however this team will not get back into any race w/ this bullpen. So unless Dewon Day can surprise the team by getting outs and Thorton/MacDougal can some how turn it around, its very unlikely. I do expect Dye and Contreras to be dealt to unload some salary and possibly get a couple of decent prospects in return. This team will finish around 80-82 IMO. When was the last time we finished under .500? I'm pretty sure it was in 1999 during the "Kids can play" campagn.
  3. Eric Byrnes has a lot to do with Arizona's surprising success in the first half of the season. He plays solid defense and is doing a pretty good job in the leadoff role as he's hitting .306, 14 HR, and 17 SBs. He can come at a decent price and im sure Ozzie would love his aggressive style of play and Im sure KW would like that he wouldn't cost more than 7 mil/ season. There is talk around Seattle that Ichiru will re-sign w/ the Mariners and Im sure Hunter will get a nice FAT offer from a team out there that KW and JR will refuse to match. So why not just get a bunch of GOOD players like Rowand, Castillo, and Byrnes?
  4. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 03:59 AM) I agree Fathom... I just can't believe he didn't give the token answer about wanting to stay with Philly. The Phillies never came up... lol. Hahaha wow. Yea he'll be on the Sox next year... he'll even take less money to come back, thats how bad he misses the White Sox. I hope ARow will be capable of sharing some spectacular plays with Ichiru next year in the OF.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 12:56 AM) Couple of thoughts... -Agreed with Beck about the bullpen. Right now it looks like you have two bullpen locks for next season in Jenks and Logan. If Thorton and MacDougal aren't traded, I'd guess both are with the team next season. That leaves just a couple of spots open. I'd try to give Wasserman, Perez, Vasquez and Day extended looks by the end of the season. Throw a bunch of 'em at the wall and hope one or two stick. -I don't think the Sox are going to go after a second baseman this winter. It looks like the Richar move was made with Richar being viewed as the future second baseman. So far he hasn't dissappointed, and although he doesn't have the track record (prior this season) to back it up, I'm not seeing any other better option. I don't really want Iguchi back and I wouldn't be a fan of giving Castillo a three-four year deal as his power appears to be completely sapped and I can't see him keeping that .355ish OBP up for too much longer. -If the Sox are going to go after a cheaper OF option (the people not named Ichiro, Torii or Andruw) I'd look at Milton Bradley. He's not going to command as much money as any of the other outfielders -- he'll get less money and years than Rowand, too -- and he seems like the type of player that Kenny would go after. Milton Bradley would be a risk, but so was AJ and Carl Everett. It might be worth taking a good look at. I would love it if KW signed Byrnes to play LF. Byrnes, Rowand, Castillo would be fine by me. We don't need that big splash type free agent, but we DO need a leadoff hitter.
  6. I love the fact that we will have 2 lefties potentially rockin it in our rotation the next 4 years. This news made my day. Buerhle and Konerko are what the White Sox are all about- i love it! This takes a ton of pressure off us fans, now its time to relax, play spoiler, and cheer on KW as he slowly starts improving our team for next year. A little trade there, a little trade here, a couple of awesome offseason signings and POOF we will be right back there in 2008.
  7. Yea KW better go after Ichiro as his #1 offseason target! Dont get me wrong, I love the way Hunter plays the game... even as much as he hurt us w/ his brilliant defense over the years, I respect it and love to watch it. But if Hunter is going to get 12 million for 4 years and Ichiru is going to recieve around 15-16, you give the extra 3-4 to Ichiru as Kalapse already mentioned, it fills our biggest offensive problem- LEADOFF SPOT! I do think KW and Jerry will make 1 big offseason splash. But who will it be? And if they lose on the bidding for Ichiru and Hunter would you guys be mad if KW signed a couple of mid-level free agents like Rowand and Castillo? My amazing offseason would be Ichiru, Rowand, and Castillo. And i would give LF to either Fields or Sweeney, let them battle it out in ST. I mean we are going to have eventually give 1 of our prospects a chance to make it at the big level don't we? KW needs to start the offseason by signing some experienced quality relievers. He needs to fix that horrible excuse for a bullpen BADLY! I remember during the 2005 offseason, his first move was aquirering Hermanson. He needs to take that same approach.
  8. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) 1. Re-sign Buerhle 2. Keep Jermaine - He has little trade value with his performance and injury, the A level compensation picks will likely net you more talent in return than a trade will at this point 3. Trade Garland to the Dodgers - A package of Hu, Meloan, and Kemp should be doable 4. Trade Javy and Thornton to the Mets for Pelfrey and Milledge, both have done nothing but hurt their trade value this season and would give the Sox some youth, plus Minaya loves Javy from their days in Montreal 5. Trade Toby Hall to the Cubs for Ronny Cedeno - Cedeno is buried and has been playing very well this season in AAA, Cubs catchers are hitting a combined .180 since the Barrett trade. 6. Trade Bobby to the Braves for Salty and Escobar. 7. Trade AJ to the Phillies for Greg Golson. 8. Trade Iguchi to the Cards for Mark Hamilton The rest of the season would look like: C Salty SP Buerhle 1B Konerko SP Contreras 2B Escobar/Richar SP Danks SS Uribe SP Floyd 3B Fields SP Pelfrey LF Dye CF Kemp RF Milledge/Sweeney DH Thome Sign Jason Jennings in the offseason and if Contreras has a decent secod half trade him in the winter, or you can use him as the closer next season. I think Bobby Jenks and Pauly are the only untouchables on our team at this point. I really want them to keep Buerhle and Garland also. As far as the rest of the team goes, I don't really care at this point.
  9. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 04:00 AM) The Mark Buehrle watch continues, but negotiations at least appear to be civil. "There's no animosity here," agent Jeff Berry said Tuesday, four days after the White Sox rejected a full no-trade proposal for his client. Berry offered no other details, other than adding the Sox "have to make a decision where their organization goes." General manager Ken Williams is expected to remain in Chicago before heading to San Francisco to watch the Futures Game on Sunday. The no-trade issue is a stumbling block after sources confirmed both sides are comfortable with a four-year, $56 million contract. Scouts from Philadelphia and Los Angeles attended Tuesday's game. It seems like both Berry and KW want the other to make the next move. KW stated on monday that he has yet to hear back from Berry regarding Buerhle's contract. The thing that bugs me is, if the money was agreed on what can possibly change for both parties to agree on a deal? Like KW can offer a NTC until the final year of his deal and to a minimum amount of teams of his choice? KW better make the phone call and get it done.
  10. Okay enough is enough already KW.. time to move on to a new OF. And when i mean new i mean 'real' outfielders. I'm not talking about Terrero or Gonzales or Owens. I'm talking at least 2 OFers from this free agent list: Suzuki, Hunter, Rowand, Byrnes, and A. Jones. The other OF spot can be given to Sweeney.
  11. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) I'll be there, and will be giving Mark a standing O tonight! For anyone that is going to the game we need to get a resign Buehrle chant going like there was for Paulie during the parade!!! I'll be there tonite and i'll also contribute to the ovation. This could turn out to be a very emotional night for Buerhle and the Sox.
  12. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 02:30 AM) Knowing KW and his manlove for the guy, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he brings him back. He's the kind of guy you build a champion around will be KW's reason for re-signing him. I really despise KW. I think everyone on here will despise KW if Buerhle doesn't get re-signed. And if Pods is brought back next year, I think KW should be fired imediately. I like Pods, but he's a potato chip. This team needs 3 new starting OFers.
  13. They have been playing much better since he came back, i would hate to see him miss anouther 10-15 straight games.... Argh it must be nice to have a healthy leadoff hitter on your team!!
  14. I think deep down KW knows he needs to get this done. Losing Buerhle could be a PR and fanbase loss nightmare. Look how the sCrUBs faired when they lost Maddux after giving him a low blow offer. Granite we already won 1 world series w/ Buerhle, im sure KW wants a couple more. I mean come on, Contreras said he would waive his NTC, that opens up pleanty of cash to go out and sign some free agents. The way Floyd is pitching, we have already set our 2008 rotation as long as KW freaking re-signs Buerhle. (Buerhle, Garland, Vazquez, Danks, Floyd) IF this doesn't get done... KW just might lose his job within the next year or 2 as this just may be his biggest bone-headed mistake ever. Give him the NTC DARN IT!
  15. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) I don't know if you've noticed but Seattle has a lot of young players and a solid 42-33 record. They probably have a better shot at the playoffs next year with him than the White Sox would with him. that all depends if KW can re-sign Buerhle and upgrade the pen and offense. If im a free agent, i go the team w/ the best starting pitching, thats what JD did when we signed him in 2005.
  16. i think something will get done before 5 pm. Buerhle is just sick of talking about his contract status and he wants to stay... 4 years @ 56 million just might get it done. However to be safe i think it will have to be around 58-60 million to get the deal done today.
  17. Congrats to Mr. White Sox hitting his 500th homerun. And it doesn't surprise me that he got kicked out of the same game... I was there in 2003 when he hit his 400th and that was a great moment. I kind of wish he did it in a Sox uniform and im sure deep down he did as well. I grew up watching this guy and i can't wait to see his number retired and statue built in the outfield.
  18. I hate the idea of trading Buerhle in general, but i really hate the idea of trading them to an AL team like Boston or NY. I know it may help us out in the long run, but it won't help us out next year or maybe even the year after that. Unless KW is certain there is an outstanding chance Buerhle won't be back in a White Sox uniform in 2008 and beyond i wouldn't do it. He says he doesn't want to 'rebuild' well getting rid of your ACE pitcher and most consistent pitcher in Sox history and not to mention club house favorite indicates you are rebuilding.
  19. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) Well... you might be suprised what happeneds here.. I remember hearing yesterday sox not only taking offers for buerhele.. so if sox unload contreas or garland ... sox might give buerhle what he wants. It better be Contreras and not Garland if they want to try and compete next year. Mark and Jon are by far our best pitchers, trade Dye and Contreras after the Cubs series. That will free up enough money to sign Buerhle to the contract he deserves. However, we are all focusing our attention on Buerhle's contract. But what about our other problems.. like Uribes lack of everything this year, our ridiculous excuse for a bullpen, our offense, our lack of a leadoff hitter, our lack of a legit farm system? This team has major issues right now and starting pitching is the least of my concern. Keep Buerhle, you have Jon G, Vazquez who is still iffy but for the most part keeps you in most games, Danks is showing that he can grow quickly at the MLB level. You go out and sign a veteran SP free agent this winter and will be even better (that is if we trade Jose of course). Because our next best option is Gio and he isn't ready yet. I want to see him up here in 2009. Any objections to bringing back Colon? I know he has health issues.... but when healthy he's still got game. We can probably get him cheap for a 2 year deal around 8 mill/season.
  20. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) I thought it was 7th series in a row. 7th series in a row, 9th series in a row who gives a crap. This team stinx and i think we all know it!
  21. Oh yes let the trading talks begin... after the Cubs series, bye bye Dye. Possibly bye bye Gooch. Better not be bye bye Buerhle. And hopefully bye bye Contreras! This is just getting sickening by the day. Might as well beef up the farm system while Detroit and Cleveland are going to be in control of this division for a couple years now.
  22. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) what are the odds the Sox score three runs against relief pitching. 1 out of a million?!
  23. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) Again, have no access to the game right now... To sum it up for you. Garland pitched amazing. Uribe's (although is hitting the ball well today) fielding cost the Sox at least 1 BIG run. Jenks (our only reliable guy from the pen) is getting hit hard. Nothing surprising here... nobody can come up w/ that clutch hit and the relievers are continuing to not RELIEVE the starters.
  24. This team seems pretty loose right now... like even as a fan it feels like there is no pressure. I think KW will see if the team can first get to .500 before the all star break. (13-5) If they can do that, I can see KW pulling off a deal for some speed in the OF and possibly even trading some prospects for decent relievers. KW says he made some calls already but the other teams aren't biting. I wonder what those calls were about?! Anyway, lets get the series win tonite!!
  25. Well if and when we trade Dye i think it will be for a solid reliever AND prospects. I hope KW waits alittle bit for Dye to heat up to upgrade his trade value before he does anything.
