QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 2, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) Did I really just hear a guy call into the postgame show saying the Sox still don't have a 5th starter? "AND WE STILL DON'T HAVE A 5th STARTER!!" - Asshat Caller "Danks has been pitching pretty well." - PFB "HE'S 0 and 4!!" - Asshat Caller And he was completely serious. Wow. Our pitching is doing more than fine. For callers to say we need a 5th starter is just pure ignorant. This team needs a shot in the arm of offense..and if it means firering Walker before we fall too far behind than im for it.

Ummm wuts Crazy Jurassic Carl Everett doing nowadays?

I remember last year Ozzie was pushing Uribe to be in the 2-hole and he didn't do the job in ST. Well i think this is definitley the year for Uribe to be in that 2-hole. Move Erstad down to 9 until he figures out how to hit again.
-
I like our chances vs Carmona and Byrd.. Sabathia is just that damn good. I predict the Sox will win 2 of 3 as our quest to win every series continues from here on out!!

"Thornton inherited 48 runners and allowed 13 to score last year. Just for reference, Scot Shields 32/10 Juan Rincon 29/9 Fernando Rodney 23/10 Thornton is pretty good, blame someone else." thanks for the numbers... however he and Garland are to blame for todays loss. You have to remember he went in there in the 8th inning and left the bases loaded . he's lucky Aardsma bailed him out w/ nobody out. I'm not saying Thorton is a bad pitcher by any means.. he's just the one guy who frusterated me the most today.
-
Its too early to judge anybody at this point. A couple of players who have impressed me out of the few have been Erstad and Aardsma. I also have a question for STATMAN: How often does Thorton come into a game with runners on base and lets them score? Yea he may have had a low ERA last year but the runners he let score (like today) were from the previous pitcher. I only like Thorton when he comes in w/ NOBODY on base.

ESPN's Steve Phillips actually picked Sox for WC
GreatScott82 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It seems like every year critics pick the Indians to make it. They have tremendous talent but they haven't proven they can make it yet. IMO the Tigers are the team to beat in the Central. The loss of Kenny Rogers makes things interesting for the central. You can never count out the Twins either..they seem to be in the hunt every year thanks to Johan, Maur and Morneau. I respect that Phillips is showing some props to the Sox while everyother critic has them going 3rd or 4th. But I agree that the wildcard will probably not come out of the central. If we make the playoffs it would be through winning the division. The key to the season is getting off to a fast start and not looking back via the 2005 season. Whatever happens i think we all know it will come down to the final week of the season. Lets do this thing!!! Can't wait for the opening pitch!!! -
Nobody hustles harder or plays with more energy than Ozuna. I like it! He's a great pinch runner and he can also lay down the bunt better than most on the team. I really like the new group 4 this year. Its just a shame that Hall had to go down like that.
-
Im not going to be a pessimist about this thing. Sisco and Aardsma just may be picking up their game once the season starts. However, it kind of bugs me that the bullpen was pretty much announced and set by KW before ST even started. Logan definitley deserves one of the spots, at least as a long reliever. Is KW just afraid to look dumb by making trades for players whome won't even start the season at the MLB level? Its not about our GM's ego.. we are trying to win games here. Sisco and Aardsma better step it up!!
-
Danks looks to be the one.. 2 lefties in a rotation can never hurt. Let him take his bumps at the mlb level. Even if he starts his career in the majors like Garland did and slowly develop over the years.. im fine w/ that. If he did get that 5th spot, Kudos to him for steping up his game at the perfect time! Contreras, Buerhle, Garland, Vazquez and Danks... not too shabby!

QUOTE(zimne piwo @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) Anyone else catch the replay of the 2005 post-season highlight video (with "We Are One Tonight" by Switchfoot) after Hawk and DJ's post-game show? Sure was nice seeing that again, and a perfect way to cap off another victory over the sCrUBS! i saw it and it is always sweet to watch video clips of 'the glory days'. Well i hope those weren't the last of the glory days?!? This group has at least one more playoff run in them... don't they? Anyways its always good to beat the Cubs in any fashion. Hope you all have a Happy and SAFE St. Patty's day! Especially you Southside Irish!!!!

Danks has the job as of today... it will be a shame if he doesn't get it. He's pitching his guts out! Maybe this is what the rotation needs.. a shot in the arm w/ some young hungry youth!

I think Floyd will win the spot. Only because of his experience and his age. Floyd has improved his game starting w/ the Arizona Fall league and is looking pretty decent. I would much rather have Danks in there. Its always fun to watch a rookie go in there and light it up and thats exactly what Danks will do. Will he have a Verlander type season? That pretty difficult but w/ his talent i say he can win 12-13 games in his first season in the bigs. I'm definitley on that Danks Posse. So count me in santo!

Three Questions about your 2007 White Sox
GreatScott82 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1. Most improved- Javy Vazquez. I expect him to finally have that 16 win season in 2007. 2. Biggest drop- I agree w/ RME JICO about Joe Crede. He had a monster year in 2006 and w/ his back problems i expect him to have a decent decline. 3. X-factor(s)- I have 3 X-factors. Look below: If Floyd can manage to some how win 10-11 games, if Anderson can somehow manage to hit at least .260 and have a decent obp, if Pods can stay healthy and steal at least 50 SBs and have a decent obp i say there is no way we miss out on the post season in 2007. -
Levine reports Sox and Buehrle to talk
GreatScott82 replied to Harry Chappas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If they can agree to a deal before the season starts, it would only be a possitive situation! We wouldn't have to listen to any of the contract talk during the season or any of the Cardinal crap for that matter. We would have 4 legitamate pitchers locked up at least until 2008. And with an exciting competition building up at that 5th spot..this can only continue to be possitive. What are the odds of having 2 young guys succeeding in 2 spots next year? Not good. If its only one spot they are fighting for, there is a very good chance a young guy will emerge (Danks, Floyd, Broadway, Haegar...) If they can lock down Buerhle (whome is the best Sox pitcher of my lifetime), It would be HUGE! pitching wins titles... KW knows that. -
Give Bobby 2 weeks off... do some stretching..have him throw a few innings see how he feels.. if he's comfortable, then we will be good to go. I'm hoping and praying for da best. W/O Jenks we are in big trouble.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) it seems like some people just dont like him and no matter what he does, he will suck. I don't think thats the case... its just many of the sox fans on here are BIG Brian Anderson supporters and they want him to succeed... What will possibily stunt Brian Anderson's growth? Erstad. Don't get me wrong, i think its a great pick up by Kenny.. but this dude should come off the bench... if Brian continues to suck for the first 2 months of the season..than i would give Erstad the nod to finish the season out in CF. Erstad when healthy is a proven winner.. he can only help us. And IMO this will only make Anderson better. Because this year unlike last year, he has to win and earn the job in spring training.

Olney mentions Buehrle trade to the Mets
GreatScott82 replied to harfman77's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) In his blog Olney mentions that the Mets have their rotation in bad shape and will likely try to make a trade at midseason. He says that depending on the standings they will try to make a deal and mentions MB, Jason Jennings, and Jake Westbrook as targets. Says that they will try to use Milledge as bait to reel in a starter, but doubts that will be enough with the premium on pitching in the current market. I guess he is implying that the Astros Indians and Sox will be out of contention and the Mets still will be contending, something I don't really buy. But if that were to happen, I would be all for a deal that would net us something like Milledge, Fernando Martinez and Mike Carp. I would obviously take Deolis Guerra over Carp but that is a little to pie in the sky, although he is pretty far away yet and could be included instead. If KW is to deal any players this season I think he needs to get some more talented posistion players in the system since our top position prospects will likely be in the bigs next season. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index...me=olney_buster I dont know... we did trade Freddy for Gavin Floyd.. I thought we could have gotten a bunch more in return for a top of the rotation starter and proven winner such as Freddy with the current market exploding like it is. Who knows what Kenny will do w/ Buerhle at this point. -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Nope. Floyd sprained his ankle in the first inning, after walking Sweeney and giving up an rbi double to PK. So all-in-all, a pretty good start. I know its really early, but something tells me Floyd will not be our 5th starter after all. IMO its Haegar's job to lose and not Floyds.
-
I think Floyd will end up winning it after all, but i am cheering for Danks. I want this dude to suprise everyone and make the jump to the big leagues...

Could be a pretty good outfield in.............
GreatScott82 replied to Jim Spencer's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) So lets just say for a second that Erstad does make the team as the everyday starter in CF and Brian Anderson is sent to AAA to start the season. Who the hell plays CF when an injury plagued Erstad needs a day off or tweaks something requiring a week of rest? Anderson surely can't be recalled every time Erstad needs to sit so what's the plan out there? Ozzie can say Mack will not be seeing any time in CF this year all he wants but if he's going to be demoting the only other passable CF on this team for an injury plagued 33 year old, I don't see what other options he's leaving himself here. Good post. I was thinking the same thing... Ozzie already said R-Mack won't be playing CF anymore. That leaves Pablo Ozuna as the only other canidate. This team will be much better off having Erstad coming off the bench. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 04:47 PM) Odds are many guys will not hit the market. I'm guessing 1 of our guys will hit the market...

The 2007 Free Agent List will be one for the ages! Guys like Ichiru, Zambrano, Buerhle (hopefully not), Dye (hopefully not), Iguchi (hopefully not), Schilling, Michael Young, Joe Nathan, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Andruw Jones, Jason Westbrook, Ivan Rodriguez, Freddy Garcia, Kenny Rogers, Torri Hunter, Jason Isringhausen, Omar Vizquel, Marcus Giles, Paul Lo Duca, Adam Dunn, Corey Patterson, Aaron Rowand, David Eckstein, Mike Lowell, Jason Jennings, Bartolo Colon, Michael Barrett (FU dude), and a whole bunch more....... I've never seen a list this good before... should be interesting to see what KW does with it. However, I did not see Mr. Cy Young Johan Santana. I think he is signed through 2008.
