KW is known for re-aqcuirering his grinder-type players. How many times did he get Everett? Like 3? lol I am one of Rowand's biggest fans and would love for him to be back on the southside. Think about it, it would most likely be for 1 season. You give BA a season down in triple-a to develope into a better hitter and he can easily replace him in 2008. The cost for Rowand shouldn't be too high. A) he is coming off an injury. and B. he is on his last year of his deal. What do you guys think it would cost to get him?
-
So far KW is 2-2 (if you count Takatsu's 2004 season) in going to Asia and signing players. Can't hurt us!!! The Winter Meetings start today, I wonder how many calls he already got in regards to one of our starters? If Ted Lily is asking for 10 mill/ season i am expecting an aweful lot for one of our proven starters!

Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox
GreatScott82 replied to Colorado Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Call me crazy, but I don't mind this deal at all. KW took into account that guys like Pierre, Roberts, and Mathews Jr were getting more money than Jermaine Dye! Sure re-signing Pods is a risk, but its a cheap risk. Lets all remember that Pods had a bad 2004, then when the Sox got him he had an awesome 2005 and was the catylist to that teams offense. In 2006 he was obviously bothered by his groin early on and never was the same all season. He already rebounded once after having a bad season, he can definitley do it again. Hell if i were KW i would still consider getting a guy like Crawford to play CF and hit leadoff. I've said it before, I would love for Pods to bat 9th in our lineup. It would A) give hime a chance to get back on track without having the 'leadoff' pressure. and B. give us one hell of a 9-1-2-3 punch providing KW replaces BA in CF. I'm just really hoping KW has some tricks up his sleeve at the winter meetings, i'm just not sure what they are?!? -
Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
GreatScott82 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) i dont really want to read through the last twenty pages so if someone could help me out. has there been any news with this trade sine the report that the two teams had had discussions. if someone could give me a update it would be greatly appreciated. thanks yep its just speculation at this point. KW didn't deny that he would indeed trade Crede. However, he did say 'at this point Crede is part of the 2007 plans'. I think its well known by this point that Garcia would be the guy KW trades out of the pitchers if an attractive offer came his way. And since Crede's agent is Borass, there might be some releavance to a this rumor. I guess we just have to wait unitl the winter meetings at this point to see what KW plans on doing. Should be interesting...... -
Thats right Balta. Just like Rowand, Crede will be missed!! Looks like AJ is the only stooge remaining. Go get em Moe!!!
-
Many of you have mentioned before. The longer KW waits, the more desperate teams will get and the market value will increase tremendously! However, if there were 1 player KW should be aggressive in aqcuirering it should be Crawford. Both Scot Merkin and Bruce Levine says KW is very very interested in him. Take that for what its worth.
-
He's just flying under the radar. There will be a few trades next weekend during the winter meetings. However, will he actually trade Crede?!? At this point anything can happen...
-
no thanks to Gagne! unless he would take a 1 year 4-5 mill contract to be a setup man. There has been a lot of vulnerable teams out there throwing money around to these free agents this offseason, however, if a team actually pays Gagne $10 mill they are nuts!!!

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
GreatScott82 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Crede, Garcia for Figgins and Santana rumor must be pretty legit since it is posted on the MLB website: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...6&fext=.jsp As far as Seattle being interested in re-aqcuirering Freddy... Sorry!! You have nothing we want. Unless you are willing to trade King Felix or Ichiru just dont even pick up the phone. It looks like more and more teams are going after Freddy. This can only increase our return package.... I say the Angel-Sox trade happens right before the winter meetings as a nice orderve before he heats up the hot stove and makes our team even stronger. Example: 1. White Sox aqcuire Figgins and Santana + one of their relievers (Shields or Donnelly) from LA Angels for Crede and Garcia. 2. White Sox aqcuire Crawford from Tampa Bay for McCarthy and a top prospect. If this happens which i think it could, KW should officially become the Mayor of Chicago. Can you guys imagine a lineup like this: Figgins 3B Crawford CF (trade BA to Florida for pitching prospects) Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Iguchi 2B Pierzynski C Uribe SS Podsednick LF call me crazy, but he would make a great 9th place hitter, not to mention provide an awesome 9,1,2 speedy punch with him, figgins and crawford. Think about it you would have 3 guys who can all possibly steal 50+ bases. Isn't that would Ozzie is looking for?!? Yea our defense wouldn't be as sharp, but our run production will go up tremendously. As for as the pitching rotation it would be: Buerhle, Garland, Contreras, Santana and Vazquez which is still a very very good rotation! Bullpen: Jenks, Thorton, MacDougle, Shields or Donnelly, Aardsma, Haegar. JUST DO IT KW!!! -
If McGuire gets in the HOF at ALL it would be a tradety. He played in era of tainted baseball. He pretty much openly admitted to juicing. I hope for the integrety of baseball he does not get in. IMO if McGuire gets in, Shoeless Joe BETTER get in. As well as Pete Rose. At least Rose and Jackson didn't enhance there body by taking substances, all natural ability there. With McGuire he made sure he was the incredible hulk at the plate. Now thats just not fair.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) At least the last sentence of that 1st paragraph shows that we aren't settling for just Figgins and Santana here (or at least that's what I hope). I want to throw up a scenario here. You make this trade (we get Aybar as well). You trade Garland and Anderson for Hurley, Danks and Masset. You then trade Vazquez for say Mike Pelfrey and another prospect. So we'll have 4 SP's in Buehrle, Contreras, Santana and B-Mac. We save $11M in the 1st deal, about $10M in the 2nd, and about $9M in the 3rd, shaving $30M off the payroll. Ryan Sweeney will take over at CF for Anderson. Figgins plays LF for Podsednik when Pods is traded. With the $30M you save (plus there's probably an additonal $10M in payroll as well), would you then try to sign a stud SP like Zito or Schmidt (or even Clemens on a short - term deal), or trade for a guy like Manny while Figgins takes over at 3rd. The Sox would never trade 3 of their SP's though. But I think with all of the stud SP's we acquire, in the long - term, it would be the best thing for this franchise to do. With that payroll room, we should still definitely be able to contend with a very good acquisition or 2. Some interesting scenario's there! I was thinking this morning and realized- if this trade does happen, we would still have 6 starters. And lets say Tampa gets stubborn and decides they are keeping Crawford. What will KW do? IMO he will try to ship Vazquez to a team desperate for pitching and attempt to get stronger at either the 3B, SS or LF possitions. And chance of that Michael Young trade happening? Or how about a deal for Manny? So many options he still would have with the 6 starters... I just hope Tampa doesn't remain stubborn with Crawford -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 12:39 AM) How does that exactly help the Sox??? not sure. just making a statement. i think he can help us offensively as far as speed goes, but defensively it can be a nightmare. -
Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
GreatScott82 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The angels are pretty desperate for a 3b. I'm not surprised one bit that they are talking about aqcuirering Crede. However, Figgins better not be our 3b. If anything he'll replace Pods out in LF. IMO if this trade happens, either Santana or McCarthy would be shipped to Tampa as a part of a Crawford deal. Than i guess Fields is our new 3b, Figgins goes to LF and Crawford CF? Sorry BA lovers out there. I know Flordia is really interested in BA. Maybe we can aqcuire a couple of talented pitching prospects for him?!? I guess i'll just stay tuned... many of you guys are ripping Figgins. Let me remind you that he is one of the biggest Sox killers out there. -
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) Why do people think the Rays will deal Crawford? He's a great player, at a cheap price. What do we have that the Rays want? McCarthy? I don't like that idea. You have to trade McCarthy to get a guy like Crawford. Tampa knows that if they want to contend in the East in the next couple of years they need to build a solid young pitching staff. They realize that they cant win without pitching and their GM has said during the end of the 2006 season that he would be willing to trade Crawford if he can get an MLB ready young starter. Tampa wants to build a young rotation like Oakland had a fews years back when they had the Zito-Mulder-Hudson trio. I truly believe that we can win it all next year with Buerhle, Garland, Contreras, Garcia and Vazquez as our starting 5. I understand if you are all worried about what will happen after 2007 since both Garcia and Buerhle will be free agents. However, I think if we win it all (and having Crawford would help in doing so) Buerhle will re-sign. And the only one to leave via free agency would be Garcia. So for you post 2007 worry warts your rotation can be this: Buerhle, Garland, Contreras, Vazquez, Broadway For now im worrying about 2007. And if KW can aqcuire Crawford, it will give us one hell of a lead-off hitter, he can steal 60 plus, play one hell of a defense and patch up our black hole out in LF. But what about our bullpen?!? I think KW will trade Pods and Fields at the Winter Meetings to help bolster our bullpen. Your 2007 Chicago White Sox: Crawford LF Gooch 2B Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Crede 3B Pierzynski C Uribe SS Anderson CF Rotation: Same as 2006 Bullpen: To be shored up at the Winter meetings Your 2008 Chicago White Sox: Crawford LF Gooch 2B (will be re-signed) Thome DH Konerko 1B Crede 3B Pierzynski C Anderson CF Sweeney RF (replace Dye who will leave via free agency) Uribe SS (will be re-signed) Your 2008 rotation: Buerhle, Garland, Contreras, Vazquez, Broadway (replace Garcia who will leave via free agency) Not bad at all. Thoughts?? Im sure i missed out on some ending contracts or what not, but it can be pretty similar to this. A 2008 OF of Crawford, Anderson and Sweeney can be dominate defensivley for many years.
-
Thats the last of the so called 'lead off hitters' on the free agent market. So if the Sox want to upgrade the leadoff spot it will have to be done via trade. No surprises there. At this point its Carl Crawford or bust! Winter meetings are around the corner. It shall be interesting to see what KW plans on doing....

Its Official Frank Thomas signs with Toronto
GreatScott82 replied to GreatScott82's topic in The Diamond Club
Do you think Frank can wait until he hits his 13th home run (500th) until May 31st when we play Toronto? I'm guessing he'll have 20 by then... but that would be appropriate if that would happen. -
I'm guessing Pods will be back. However, i can see KW making a strong push at Carl Crawford. Many of you seem to be worried about our pitching staff after 2007 and you rightfully should. But the only way we would get Crawford is if we trade Mac and a couple of top of the line prospects such as Fields or Owens. Is it a risk?? Yea, its a HUGE risk. But a move like this can help the White Sox win the World Series in 2007. For the most part isn't that what they are playing for? Then what happens in 2008?? Well if we win it all in 2007, then i say Buerhle will re-sign and that would officially end the Cardinal talk. Garcia would be the only one to walk via free agency and the Sox could plug in a guy like Broadway into that 5th spot. What i'm saying is the Sox can win it all next year with the 5 starters they already have. Will it suck to lose a guy like BMac? YES, but in order to get something (and Crawford is a BIG something) you have to give something. And at this point KW should really consider this. You figure KW's #1 priority will be to keep Crede at 3B for a LONG time so we can afford to lose Fields. What are your thoughts on this? We may just keep Pods as our 4th OF or i believe we can get a pretty decent reliever for him. Thoughts??!?

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Nov 23, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) Gobbles! Have a good one folks. haha wasn't that on last nite? A southpark classic. Happy Thanksgiving to the White Sox nation!!!!

i think of the un-sung hero's like El-duque and Geoff Blum. Look at my avatar It also reminds me that EVERYONE on that playoff roster played a significant role in the playoffs. Not many WS championship teams can say that.

QUOTE(Want2Repeat @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 03:40 AM) Cotts was bad last year, real bad. This Aaaaaarrrddsssmmaa dude, however you spell it, will be Coop's next miracle turnaround project. my buddy who is a cub fan says he sucks ass. its okay im sure mariner fans thought the same of thorton before coop did his magic you just never know.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 05:57 PM) Well, I admit I don't know that much about Corey, but he got on base and stole...what? How many bases last year? At LEAST 30. In that case, I'd say not a bad idea. Someone should put the defensive comparison together between he and Pods and see what THAT looks like. Otherwise, I don't see why it's an absolute MUST to replace Pods. I actually wouldn't be surprised if KW just kept him and give him one more shot at it. With that said he would probably look to upgrade at CF somehow to balance out the lineup more. Patterson is intriuging, i wonder what Baltamore would want for him? Would you guys trade Owens for him? Now that the Cubs have all the talk around town, do you think KW will try to steal some of that energy and aqcuire a big name?? Things have been too quite lately....
-
i thought one of the Cubs biggest weakness was thier rotation?!? Why would they give that kind of money out to ANOTHER power hitter? LOL We tried the power-power-power thing in 2006 and it didn't get us in the playoffs. But power with a lack of starting pitchers doesn't garuntee winning for crap. Do you guys think KW will make a big splash similar to this? Not a power type guy, but a big name like Carl Crawford.
-
wow, if this happens the offseason will truly be a disaster.
-
yea, it wouldn't surprise me if KW waits until most of the free agent signings occur so he can maximize his return package as a desperate team will most likely overpay for one of our pitchers. For now he should concentrate on signing some relief pitchers to shore up our pen. I don't know about you guys but im still not impressed with a bullpen consisting of Ardsema, Haegar, McDougle, Jenks and Thorton. Haegar and Ardsema are not proven and we still have 1 hole to fill.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) Oh, absolutely. I just don't see why the Angels would give up a young, cheap pitcher with electric stuff for one year of a past-his-prime Freddy at $10 million. The only thing I can think of is that they consider Santana a huge injury risk. IIRC, he had elbow surgery when he was in the minors and his small frame may not be able to support an arm that throws in the mid-90's. That may explain why they shopped him for Crawford and why the D-Rays rejected the offer. Freddy has a lifetime 8-1 record with a 2.99 lifetime era in Anahiem. That might have something to do with it.
