QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) I think the Twins have much better pitching than the Sox. If they hit consistently, I'm sorry to say that they will likely overtake us. That bullpen of theirs is lights out. I hope Liriano doesn't come back till next season, or we're in trouble. Remember, our last 3 games are at Minnesota. dont remind me! This is why it is really important to beat the Tigers and catch them because the Twins have our number. If the Central is unreachable and the Tigers have it by that final weekend and we are tied for the wildcard with the Twins going into that series, I dont like our chances of reaching the playoffs. So yeah the Twins scare me.

QUOTE(Beltin @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) I am not sure you should put the A's or Angels in the top tier just yet. well i think the A's and Angels are better than the Mets and that alone says how weak the NL truly is.
-
we should be #2 behind the Twins. Tigers should be #3, Yankes 4, Mets 5. The Red Sox appear to be dead in the water right now. IMO the NL has only 1 good team and thats the Mets. The AL has the Tigers, Sox, Twins, Yankees, Red Sox, A's, and Angels

Great post Mr. Hibbard. However, its okay to be alittle critical of your team when they are making mistakes that can easily be avoided. I will truly remember the 2005 world series season for the rest of my life. However, I want more. I dont want it to be like the '85 Bears. That team should have won at least 3 super bowls. This team has the capability of building a dynasty, KW knows it, Ozzie knows it and I think we all know it. Last season was magic. This season is a struggle. BUT we still lead the wild card and are in decent shape to get back into the central race. We all have to remember that we are the team that the whole league is targeting. We have a HUGE bulls-eye on our back and the whole league is aiming for us to go down before anyone else. I'm not going to lie, as a fan even im not AS hungry to win it this year than I was last year. I also think the players feel that way also. But as we turn down this final stretch of the season as we try to bid for a playoff spot my hunger grows. I hope it grows for Ozzie and the players also. For guys like RMack, Cintron, Javy, Thome, Thorton, Riske, McDougal, and Alomar, they should be extra hungry and hopefully that will feed the other guys into wanting it just as bad as last year. The final stretch begins tonite, lets beat those Tigers again and again and cut that lead down even more. Yours Truly, GreatScott Keeping the faith alive!

QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) I agree that Pods won't be back next year - primarily due to his defense. I think the Sox are pretty happy with his offense. I don't think that Fields will be our LFer next year. I think that he either starts the season in Charlotte or he is traded. I don't think the Sox go after Juan Pierre. I think Anderson and Dye are set in the OF. I'm not sure what they'll do about replacing Pods but I would be surprised if they moved Uribe - although they do like Cintron. I wouldn't be surprised see KW make a move for Carl Crawford. I agree randy. Crawford plays stellar defense and IMO is the best leadoff hitter in the game. He steals +50 a year and so on. KW can package a HUGE deal to TB for him. He can offer Sweeney/Fields, Garcia/Vazquez, Pods and maybe a mid level minor league pitcher for him.

From here on out, we MUST win every series. Starting tommorow in Detroit, we need to win 3 of 4. Honestly the only AL team that scares me right now is Minnesota. And the good thing is, they are still trailing us by 1 game. I truly believe it will be easier to catch the Tigers than to maintain a lead over the Twins (Pirahnas). So if we can creep our way back to the top of the division, I can see both the Twins and White Sox making the playoffs. Thoughts?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) I haven't read through this thread yet, but I'm going to add this. This 2006 team doesn't feel the need to show up everyday. The 2005 team came out with something to prove against every single team. They played every game like it meant something, which it did. They had heart. This year's team does not do any of that. They believe they're better than everyone else, and they don't have to prove it. They take off games and entire series. 2005 team = wanted it 2006 team = complacent, don't have anything to prove That is why this team will never accomplish what the 2005 team did. I agree with a lot of what you said. They dont seem as hungry as last year. However, I hope your last statement is not true. IMO this team has what it takes. It is up to Ozzie and the rest of the guys to want it again. They should realize they are the champions until someone knocks them off. But if this team misses the playoffs we are no longer the champions and that would be embarressing.

KC's lineup isn't a mickey mouse lineup with guys like Grudz, Teahan, Brown and Sweeney. We need to have smart ABs and play some smart fundamental baseball. Lets start a new winning streak!!!!! -
C'mon Javy how about you beat your 13 K game in Toronto! Lets go for 15 Ks and lets give him about 7-8 runs of support. Aww hell, lets just win. I dont care how

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Anyone catch Jeff Brantley's "analysis" of the situation? First, he tells Tiger fans not to worry, that this will pass and they'll be fine and win the division. Then, in response to a question about the Red Sox, he said essentially the same thing in the same dismissive manner, stating that the Red Sox will re-group and be the wild card. So without saying it directly, he said the White Sox will miss the playoffs. Hee hee. He's just such a useless tool. Ever since Ozzie ripped on Brantley when Brantley questioned Ozzie's move to not bring in Hermy last May he has been against the Sox. If anything just listen to Kruk, he knows how damn good we are. I can't believe i said listen to kruk!!

3 of 4 is what we need! The Royals shouldn't be taken lightly. They swept Boston and Grudzielenek has been kind of clutch for them this season. We must keep the intensity on high and play some smart fundemental baseball.

Awesome, looks like someone else recognizes JD for MVP as well! Nice WhiteSoxFan101! I've had this as my sig since May. Hopefully the rest of the league recognizes JD's importance to our team and considers him for MVP voting. As for the attendance, its awesome! Even w/ the Dan Ryan disaster, the place is packed every nite. This is totally a White Sox town! Of course people say they are all just fair weather fans, I say they are smart fans! Why support a losing product like they do on the northside? Although many of us have supported our Sox through thick and thin over the years, many others just wouldn't support a losing product. I cant blaim them for not coming. There has always been a lot of Sox fans. Now they officially burrowed out of their holes. Its amazing what winning the title does for a city and an organization. I love the White Sox!

I'm happy we won this series. But sweeping Detroit would be huge! Not only will we be only 5.5 back, but they are going to Boston for a 3 game series, while we have a 4 game set vs KC.

what ever happens happens. as long as we keep winning, things will take care of themselves.

ST Poll: Who's the most clutch player on the Sox?
GreatScott82 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I honestly couldn't vote. I say its a dead 3 way tie between Dye, Pauly and Crede. They all seem to have different cluch roles however. For instance: Dye seems to always get that game winning hit Gooch seems to always ignite the offense to begin a rally Pauly seems to always tie the game up in the 9th or put the team ahead in the 7th or 8th with a big homerun. Crede is just straight up clutch in the 7th 8th and 9th innings. -
I'm Not really sure what to expect this series. As long as the starters keep the Tigers at 3-4 runs or less in 7 innings I like our chances of winning. Should be a fun series to watch. It would be sweet to sweep these guys and get back in the Central Division race. However, I wouldn't be upset with 2 of 3.

On this day: 8-8-2006 the Sox regained their Championship magic! GO SOX!! Don't stop now- lets win this series!

HE gone!

C'Mon Bobby, 1 more. Then we can pull off a miracle vs Mo.

If we lose by a hit by pitch, i'll be royally pissed off.

QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) So I didn't see the game (no WGN here). What was different with Javy? Was his slider just biting harder than normal? Did Hawk/DJ say what Coop was working on with him? He his slider seemed like it had more pop than usual. He also had great command of his fast ball and when he pitched his breaking ball, he did it effectively. Im not sure what Coop said about the adjustments, however Hawk and DJ noticed that he moved his foot a little bit more toward the end of the mound rather than pitching more toward the center of it. Its amazing what some minor adjustments can do for a pitcher.

man screw Cleveland and thier low budget relievers! We should be only 6 games back damn it!

Going into the top of the 9th: Tribe 3- Tigers 2 Final in Baltamore: O's 5- Yanks- 0 In the 7th in Tampa: Drays 5- BoSox 2 Can all 3 possibly lose? I sure as hell hope so.

Javy was that you?? Great game. Offense came through again today as well. This is extremely encouraging to see. These last 2 games have been the best i've seen all year. This is the White Sox baseball I know and love.
