I think Jose will stay this season. However, I don't think KW will sign him to an extension this offseason. McCarthy will take up Vizciano's spot in the pen while KW will try to add another lefty via free agency or likely just bring up Munoz from the minors to fill that roll. Its pretty simple actually. It was either Jose or Jon G signing an extension, since it was Jon G- this will be Jose's last year w/ the Sox. 2006 Rotation: Buerhle, Contreras, Garland, Garcia, Vazquez Bullpen: Jenks, Hermy, Cotts, Pollite, McCarthy, Munoz? free agent? 2007 Rotation: Buerhle, Garland, Garcia, Vazquez, McCarthy

QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Felix Pie isnt a pitcher Doh! I knew that I meant to say Angel Guzman. I guess I kept on hearing the name Felix Pie I thought he was a pitcher. Than again the Cubs have a lack of pitching

This whole 4 way trade proposal is BS. Bedard is solid, however why would the O's want Garland for 1 year and Ramerez as well when they know how screwed up in the head Manny is and they know Garland will walk after 1 season? IMO the O's would get screwed the most out of this deal. Manny would end up being un-happy and demand another trade, while Garland will pitch the '06 season in Baltamore and head west via free agency. Of course this deal makes sense for both the Cubs and Red Sox, but than again this was a Boston writer who speculated this deal. For the White Sox- this deal makes a lot of sense. Bedard gives us another reliable lefty out of our pen. He can spot start when neccessary and will be under our control contractually for the next 2-3 years (KW loves that). If we can get a solid pitching prospect in this deal like Felix Pie, I'm all for it. But like I said before this deal makes no sense for the O's.

The 4 teams I know are interested in Jon are Houston, Texas, LA Angels and LA Dodgers. What out of those teams has the most to offer as far as bullpen help? Good bye Jon G! We stuck with you- now you are going to get paid somewhere else.
-
I personally think we only need 1 good lefty reliever. We have that in Cotts. If KW decides to keep Jon G. (doubtful) McCarthy will fill Vizcaino's void and IMO Baj will take Marte's spot. This team just might be set for the 2006 season. Bench: Widger, Borchard, Ozuna, Mackowiak, Gload Relievers: Jenks, Hermy, Politte, Cotts, Baj, McCarthy Rotation: Buerhle, Contreras, Garland, Garcia, Vazquez (assuming Jon G stays) Starting lineup: Pods, Uribe, Thome, Konerko, Dye, Gooch, AJ, Crede, Anderson Can we repeat with this roster: HELL YEAH! Like I said this is assuming we keep Jon G for the 2006 campaign. If we ship Jon G. than it will be for a reliever and prospects and McCarthy will fill his void in the rotation. Can we repeat w/o Jon G? I think so- McCarthy needs to show us that he is ready for a full season, if he does than playoffs here we come again!

What are the chances of Garland just playing out the year with us and having BMac as our spot starter/ reliever? I know KW says the budget for '06 is 90 million, but whats another 5 million? I say lets ride the year out with him.
-
bring him back to the south side!
-
Hmm Kenny is making room for more players. Borchard is an upgrade over Perez IMO. Widger and Pablo remain, while Mackowiak can play all OF possitions + 2B- so he is an upgrade defensively over Willie. However, we will miss Willie's speed. And how can we forget his winning run to bring home the title
-
3 years for 30 million is acceptable. Esspecially w/ todays pitching market. A KW smart move would be: 2 years for 21 mill and a 3rd year club option for 12 million.
-
Jose will sign with us. Its just the first part of negotiations. I can see a 2 year deal with a 3rd year club option happening. Hmm i wonder what Kenny will do if he can't sign one of both Jose and Jon? He won't trade both. Maybe just ride out Jon and Jose for the 2006 season as we go for our repeat?

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) id rather wait and see what happens, i love tejada great player, if we get him we have an outstanding offense and still have a good staff with vasquez taking garlands place, doesnt bother me a bit Tejada wont come here. Too expensive. Right now its either going to be Blalock or prospects from any team. I doubt KW will trade away any more possition players, so look to get a solid reliever w/ prospects to go along with the package. I've mentioned Lidge before, but who knows what Kenny has in mind? I love "under the radar"!

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) Look at it this way, Greg. The Sox aren't loading themselves up for 1 year shot at the title again like the Florida Marlins, they want to contend for few more years yet, and the acquisition of Javier Vazquez shows that. What KW has to weigh up is it worth trading Garland now for some elite prospects and allow B-Mac to start, or keep Jon, when you know he's going to bolt, and just take the 2 draft picks? But then you have to look at Vazquez playoffs vs Garlands in the playoffs statistics. Vazquez got bombed when he was in NY. Garland was awesome in the playoffs. And if Vazquez will be the guy left out come playoff time for the rotation is McCarthy ready to step his game up in the playoffs? I'm sure Kenny is considering all this- not just the regular season. I like the fact that he's thinking further than 2006, but is trading Garland for pitching prospects help us anytime soon? Probably not. If KW trades Garland i hope it will be for an excellent reliever or a center fielder and some pitching prospects. So far Houston, Texas, and Baltamore have called KW that we know of in regards to Jon G. I hope he waits until the complete best offer is on table. I also hope he waits until Contreras and AJ P are signed to deals.
-
No thank you to Houston. They got garbage. There minor league talent is junk. And the Astros are trash. I would consider Garland for Lidge and a prospect. Add to our set-up man depth.
-
Before KW makes any more deals he will first attempt to give Contreras a 2 year extension to 2008 and lock down Pierzynski for another 2-3 years. Hopefully Jose isn't too upset over El-duque leaving and decides to stay. AJ staying put is almost a garuntee- Chicago adopted him. Once those 2 things are taking care of- KW will then focus on making this team stronger. I personally think his next trade will be unprecedented. Tejada doesn't make sense in terms of the team's financial goal for 2006. And Blalock would be nice, but the reason KW got Mackowiak was to make sure Crede gets his rest throughout the year. I'm smelling some sort of CFer heading our way...

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) Like Davanon, but they can sign him for zero now. He was released by the Angels. Just read that. Nice- KW should look into him. Hmmm Scot Shields and propspects I guess. Do they have a deep farm system?
-
I would take Scot Shields- he is a beast out of the bulpen. Hmmm how about him and Jeff DeVanon? He can compete with BA for the starting CF job.
-
what would be our lineup if we aqcuired Blalock? probably: Pods, Uribe, Thome, Konerko, Dye, Blalock, Iguchi, Pierzynski, Anderson. Wow thats scary!! Take that with this rotation: Buerhle, Contreras, Garcia, Vazquez and McCarthy WOW!
-
KW simply will not bring Tejada over here. His contract is too big for there estimated '90 million dollar payroll' for the 2006 season. I'm guessing they will trade Garland for a solid reliever and a couple of stud pitching prospects. McCarthy will be our 5th starter and Anderson will be our starting CF in 2006. But i guess with KW you never know?

Vasquez trade (final details et. all?)
GreatScott82 replied to rowand's rowdies's topic in Pale Hose Talk
KW loves the fact of having a 6th starter for insurance reasons. All BMac does is replace El-duque's spot in the bullpen for a year. He will spot start when needed and come 2007- he will be one of our ACEs. I don't see Garland being traded- unless its for an impact type player such as Tejada or Crawford. I doubt we get Tejada- KW loves the Crede/Uribe connection on the left side of the infield- they are cheap and are awesome defensively. Crawford on the other hand makes sense- since TB has many solid OFers in there system they will want starting pitching galore for him. Can we see a possible 3-way deal for him?? With KW you never know. Garland to Baltamore, pitching prospects from Baltamore and us to TB, Crawford to the Sox. I love speculating this time of year. -
I think Crawford fits into the whole Ozzie ball theme times 10! However, TB will be asking for McCarthy not Garland or Contreras. Will KW give up the young phenom plus more for arguably the most versatile player in the AL? I think so!!

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) Rincon got signed to a 2 year deal by the Cardinals. damn! any other Lefty hurlers out there?
-
I wonder how much of his contract AZ picks up? Hopefully at least the money New York gave them.
-
Wow didn't know Vizcaino was involved. I'm guessing McCarthy is spending a full year in our bullpen now. Look for KW to aqcuire a lefty reliever next. Hopefully Rincon. After that he can then focus on giving extensions to Contreras and AJ P.
-
And for those who got there wish- we officially have 4 starters in our 2007 rotation: Buerhle, Garcia, Vazquez and BMac. Now its a matter of having Contreras commiting now that we know Garland wont.
