Angels & Sox looking at Crawford
GreatScott82 replied to That funky motion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 05:32 AM) I agree with you on McCarthy being untouchable we NEED to keep him. I would much rather have a experenced CF for next year. But if we could get one or the other, I would want to get Crawford for the main reason that Pierre is a FA at the end of the year and will mostly walk. Also by getting Crawford, you have him locked down til 2010. By trading for one of the CF's we will need to trade one of our 3 CF's and I would rather have Crawford for 4 years then Pierre for one year like I said before Thats exactly the reason why I think KW would go after Pierre instead. KW would probably only want him for one season. Then after a full season on our bench as our 4th OFer. He should be ready to be our everyday CFer in 2007. Not to mention Pierre's trade value will be a lot lesser than Crawford because of his contract status. And according to ESPN the White Sox, Cubs and Rangers are the 3 teams most active in pursuit of Pierre. Lets see what happens..... -

QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 05:19 AM) Very true about the comments he made, right when I saw this thread, thats what I thought about. I guess his attitude would be a concern, but wasnt AJ considered a cancer? But if there is something that I have learned since Kenny has been the GM, is never doubt the guy, he knows what he is doing. The options for CF seem to be Pierre, Crawford (both unlikely) Anderson, Owens, and Young. Out of these how would you rank them? Are we better off keeping our guys and using one of them in CF, or should we go get a one year rental in Pierre, who now I am hearing is going to cost Young or McCarthy, Or should we trade Fields and a minor league pitcher for Crawford? Right now I would prefer KW go out and get a CFer with experience. Pierre has a WS ring so he is a good option. Crawford has tremendous talent offensively, defensively and base running. But is giving up McCarthy and Anderson worth it? I don't think so. Would I trade Anderson, Fields and a top pitching prospect for him? YES! In a heart beat. McCarthy is an untouchable. With Garland in doubt after 2006- WE MUST keep McCarthy. If all fails and we can't aqcuire a CFer this offseason- I would go with Anderson over Young and Owens due to his major league experience (even though it wasn't much). BUT just the thought of having an OF with little experience on a defending champion team makes me worry. Doesn't it make you worry? -

QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 05:01 AM) Didnt Crawford play LF last year, if that is the case who would play CF. I would guess Pods because he has played there before Crawford is a much better defensive OFer than Pods. He would likely play CF if KW could some how magically make a trade to aqcuire him. The only thing thats negative about Crawford is a few of his comments he made last year when Pods beat him in the Final All-Star Spot Fan Voting. Remember he said "What Chicago did was bush league" Do we really want a guy with an attitude like that on our team? I'm sure KW will take this sort of stuff into account. You have to think about team chemistry and there individual attitude of a player- not just there talent. -
Bring Graffy HOME!!!!!

This is what KW wants. ESPN thinks the Sox are done. That the team is basically set. He has once again flew under the radar. KW is NOT done. Expect the un-expected this week. Will Brain Anderson really be the starting CF? Or has Kenny have something else up his sleeve? I think he has something up his sleeve, but thats just me.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) uhhhh, I think he's already signed for 2 more years. you want to sign him to an 8 year deal or something? lol I remember last year in April fans were already freaking out about Paulee's and Jon G's contracts. Its just the nature of Sox fans. We love the security of having solid players on your team for years to come.

QUOTE(AirScott @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) I've mentioned it a few times, though I always followed it up with "but it ain't gonna happen." Whats up Scott. Hows life at Southern? I've also mentioned it a few times. But w/ Boras as his agent and the money he is seeking. Only the Cubs, Red Sox and Yankees will be that dumb to pay him all that for that long. I say lets either put the kid (B. Anderson) out there. Or go after a cheaper, speedy #2 guy. I know everyone (including myself) has mentioned Pierre a plethora of times. But I don't think that will be happening. If KW gets someone- it will probably be via trade during the winter meetings. Stay tuned....

2004's Uribe was very successful offensively. However, he was very streaky had a hot April and May, bad June-August and got hot again in September. He is too inconsistent to hold that #2 spot in the order. The #2 spot is probably the most important spot in the order and Iguchi is the most consistant batter we have. I say if we CANT aqcuire a new #2 hitter- than just keep Gooch there. If its not broke why fix it? I understand that Ozzie wants Gooch to use his power more, but is it really neccessary with Paulee, Thome, and Dye in the middle of the order??!?

Garland used to be 52. You guys remember that? Players change there #s sometimes. No biggy. I doubt that its because of a potential trade.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 05:54 AM) I understand the frustration of Cubs fans. Remember, two season ago Sox fans were under similiar conditions--opposing team in Chicago had experienced playoff success, and followed up their success by acquiring several high profile players. Whereas our management did little in the free agent market to address pressing needs. Now, in 2005, just multiply Cub anguish four fold. Winning a World Series is bound to aggrivate their fan base further. It's difficult sitting by watching your quasi-modo looking general manager overpaying for setup men, while seemingly ignoring a vital position such as shortstop. He may still pull of his annual raping of Pittsburgh, but unless he does something which upgrades three positions (CF/RF/SS), things won't be cheerful in Wrigleyville. Oh, and don't forget The Dude is still employed. He's already been labeled scapegoat for failing to establish fundementals the last several seasons. At least KW filled the main need that offseason = OZZIE GUILLEN! Why is Baker still there manager? lol they have no clue how to run a team up there on the North side. They had one good year and now they are afraid of change.
-
Graff is a hell of a player. And hopefully he can find a starting job somewhere. But if he can't- he knows he has a home here as our super sub utility man!
-
If the Mueller thing doesn't work out, whats the deal with Graffinino? I know he's not LH but he is still the super sub KW and Ozzie want.
-
This means the Yankees will get Farnsworth to replace him. I wonder how much they will over pay him?
-
WOW 6 mill/ year for a setup man? Not even a closer is worth that. Unless he is Mariano Rivera or a 100% healthy Gagne. Whats with the inflation in price for relievers?
-
Too bad C.Lee wasn't a free agent! Could have him back in LF and move Pods to CF. J/k that will never happen. Ozzie wants speed- and KW will get him speed. Sorry Brian Anderson fans out there, its just not quite his time yet.
-
Seems like Ozzie's concern about BA's defense will drive KW to make a move for a CFer. But who? Its not like Pierre's defense is dominant... I really don't know what to expect going into 2006
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) With Pierre going into his FA year, the price should be a lot lower than most of us are expecting [though if the sox did pick him up, people would still be calling it the newest "worst trade ever"] The Marlins want young pitching and young OFs. We have pleanty of both in our system. We should be the front runners on this if KW wants it.
-
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...phil&id=2242443 this is a great article regarding KW's aggressiveness. And the possibilities of going after Pierre. Phil Rogers thinks its a good possibility despite the downplay from KW and other executives. I've mentioned it before- it excites the hell out of me thinking of Pods and Pierre at the top of the lineup and Thome/Konerko/Dye in the middle of it, not to mention Gooch, AJ, Crede and Uribe solidifying the lower half. If we get Pierre I don't see how we couldn't be favored to win it all again.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) For those who requested... good work! we should be seeing that soon IMO
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:56 AM) Please excuse my boredom... looks good in a Sox hat. But everybody seems to think he won't be coming here. Make a Mueller edited one. There is a better chance he'll be here.
-
Any latest news regarding Mueller?
-
If Garland leaves after '06 I would love to replace him with Mulder! Another lefty ace to go along w/ Buerhle. Mulder grew up a Sox fan. I have a feeling KW is going to give Jose C an extension this year so a rotation of Buerhle, Mulder, Garcia, Conteras and BMac in 2007 would look pretty good to me.

Makes sense. Everett loves hitting in the Twinkie dome.
-
Boston offers Manny Ramerez to Philadelphia for Bobby Abreu but the Phillies rejected! It doesn't look like he will be staying in Boston after all. Boston is shopping him not only listening to offers. Looks like the Ortiz-Ramerez power-combo is finished. Does this mean the Thome-Konerko power-combo is the new best in the AL?
-
The Twins are also going after Piazza as well. Looks like they plan on contending once again. I doubt they keep Jaque Jones though. Not like it matters- they will always be contenders with there well stocked farm system.
