QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 10, 2015 -> 08:37 AM) exactly and will the sox be interested and be damn with the salary restrictions that JR is setting up. Boras will wait as long as he can to acquire that mega deal. My hope is that he gets a deal much lower than what Detroit offered last season. I do think the Yankees will eventually become the typical spending sucker that they are and sign him. Rumor has it that the Cardinals are interested in his services. However, I think the Cardinals will sign Shields.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) He really doesn't hit lefties that well. He hits nobody well.
-
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 01:55 AM) I would assume the team is about done making moves BUT I would not be surprised to see a push for Jason Castro. I agree with this.

Wowza! I didn't see this one coming. Nice work Hahn. Best offseason ever!!!

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) the cell does not enhance the power like coors. so lets get real. Of course not. But it is one of the top hitting ballparks in the AL so if there were a drop off, it wouldn't be as significant as what your implying. CarGo is a great athlete and he would help this team out on both sides of the ball. If there was a concern about him, it would absolutely be his health. If anything, that can potentially hurt the Rockies negotiating price if something ever came up. Another Rockies player Colorado may dangle out there this winter is Corey Dickerson. .Or will he become an average player outside of Coors also?
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 11:12 AM) no he is not, we have discussed this dream of cargo being a great player. the splits stat show him to be at best a avg player away for Col. I'm pretty sure they call US Cellular, Coors East. I'll take my chances that he will produce here.

QUOTE (ParkerBear7 @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 02:35 AM) I know this is dreaming but Rick Hahn should be talking with the Rockies about any and all possibilities for making a deal. A source tells Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that the Rockies will keep their "eyes and ears open" on trade offers for Carlos Gonzalez. With the club having extended a $15.3 million qualifying offer to Michael Cuddyer, the Rockies outfield is shaping up to be a bit crowded (and pricey) next season. Unloading CarGo and his $16 million contract in 2015 -- and the $37 million remaining in the two years after that -- would help alleviate that logjam. With a new general manager running the show, the team may be more willing to talk about Gonzalez and star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki than it has in the past. Nov 5 - 7:36 PM Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that the Rockies have been "poking around" on a potential Troy Tulowitzki trade with the Mets, but he continues to hear that a deal is "not happening." In other words, not much has changed over the past month. Rockies owner Dick Monfort is close with Tulo and is inclined to keep him or get the OK from his star shortstop before signing off on a deal. Things could change if the Mets (or someone else) gets aggressive, but at this point it looks like Tulo is staying put in Colorado. Dec 8 - 2:24 PM This is exactly the type of move the Sox can make to help push them over the top. CarGo is a STUD!!! Go get this dude!!!

QUOTE (bear_brian @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) Part of me absolutely agrees with you, except that Rasmus's defense does separate him from Tank, and he can also play CF. I do not think highly of him, but it will still seem a step up (albeit with more cost) than Tank. I want nothing to do with Rasmus. A history of clubhouse issues and terrible offensive player. We had a guy who was only good at defense and his nickname was bacon. Our next LF should be an offensive and defensive sound player.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 09:11 AM) Not true. The team is in all in mode right now, we don't have time to wait 4 years for a draft pick to develop. If we see someone who can help the team immediately, no one should worry about a draft pick. We've already gave up a second rounder for just a closer. The time to sign free agents is now, and next year if we want to sign a marquee left fielder, we'd have to give up a first round pick. We are also talking about a position we do not have one single internal replacement for. Hence why I brought up CarGo. If we traded for him we would obviously give up 2 or 3 of our top 10 prospects. Good news is that his contract is pretty affordable according to his talent level. We wouldn't have to lose draft picks. Since the outfield would be set in stone for 3 seasons, they can focus on drafting in other areas of concern.
-
I know the farm system really can't afford to ship off any more top prospects, but I'm just throwing something out there. What would it take to bring Carlos Gonzalez over from Colorado? The Sox would have him under control for 3 seasons and he would solidify the outfield.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) Dan Hayes of CSN has mentioned Rasmus as a possible LF option still. Rasmus can play defense but can't hit the water if he jumped out of a boat. The dude is terrible offensively.
-
He also said there is no set plan for Rodon yet. He keeps hinting toward the bullpen but mentioned that he will eventually become a horse in the rotation for a long period of time. I wouldn't mind him starting in AAA just to get stretched out. Hopefully he will force the issue and come up ASAP.
-
It sounds like LF and bullpen are the main focus right now.
-
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) Not sure I feel comfortable emptying the farm again.... Agreed. Unless we are swapping a top prospect for a young MLB ready OF or C that is under contract control for 4+ years.
-
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:09 PM) Does anyone like Rock or Bucket have any idea what it would take to acquire Castro? Hahn was pushing for Castro last winter, but the asking price was Quintana. With the season Castro is coming off of, the White Sox may be able to get him for a top 11-20 prospect and perhaps another midlevel prospect. I really don't see Houston being interested in Danks or Viciedo. Any deal for Castro would have to be via the farm system.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) He and Danks are about our only cards left to play. Not exactly trumps though. On the MLB roster yes, but don't forget the farm system. If they see an opportunity to acquire an all-star outfielder by trading a top prospect, this seems to be the winter to do it.
-
If you look around the league, there really isn't a whole bunch of talented catchers out there. Castro would be an upgrade over Flowers, but I also feel we need to use our resources elsewhere and focus on acquiring another outfielder. It seems as if there are multiple talented outfielders available via trade and still on the free agent market. l'm thinking Hahn will focus on this right now. I also have a hunch that Hahn would like to add one more reliever to the pen before its all said and done. Stay tuned... Hahn said there was more on the table that is currently in the works.

I'm hoping we get Samardzija before Lester makes his decision. Boston may we want to get involved late if Lester chooses elsewhere. ... Get it done Rick!! -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 08:48 PM) I just get the feeling Semien is going to make us regret trading him. We said the same thing about Beckham back in the day. -
Yep.. nothing new. He is anxious for the meetings to say the least. Levine kept mentioning the exciting possibility of Sale - Samardzija - Quintana being at the top of the rotation. Lol

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) If people think Shark is going to get 18-20 a year, I think I'd much rather just sign Scherzer for a couple million more AAV and keep the specs. Shark at 6 years $105 million (17.5 per season)will be a bargain compared to what Scherzer is about to get. -

Check out @Buster_ESPN's Tweet: https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/539012379867348992 Shark has the freshest arm out of any high priced free agent pitcher. I definitely cannot blame Hahn to be pursuing him. Not only does Samardzija get outs, he gets them out FAST! Get it done Hahn! We can worry about extensions after the deal. And us fans can always egg him on at Soxfest. He will sign an extension here... believe me. The dude grew up a big Sox fan. He wants to be close to home. He dislikes the new Cubs management, according to sources. Get it Done!!!! -
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) so are you saying Alexei plus prospect for Jeff S?? because that is all i have been hearing. I heard that. I also have heard Anderson and Semien for Shark.
