  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) I am in this corner I wish i can be in this corner, I want to be in this corner, he just hasn't hit since his rookie year for whatever reason. I hope he can be like a Joe Crede where his bat starts blooming after a couple years of full time play. Gosh an all star type offensive season from Beckham can really make this team good, potentially really good.
  2. I would LOVE to have a WS ring! However, it makes me quite sad to see players or coaches resort to selling them.
  3. I thought Doug Padilla's article from ESPN was a good read. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/ With the lack of movement going on this winter for the White Sox and with veterans slowly departing the city year by year (Buerhle, Pierzynski and next year probably Konerko) it makes me wonder if Hahn's ultimate goal is to officially start a youth movement? The article talks about shifting Viciedo over to 1B once PK retires/leaves after 2013. This would make room for one of the OF prospects (Hawkins, Thompson, Walker or Mitchel) to shift over to LF. In fact, Hahn's greatest wish would likely be for Rios to have another good season so he can get an adequate return via trade during the midway point or next offseason since his contract expires after 2014. If he can deal him, that would open the door for one of those OF prospects to step into RF. Veterans with contracts expiring after 2013: Thorton, Konerko, Crain, and Floyd Veterans with contracts expiring after 2014: Dunn, Peavy and Rios. This team will be in a great financial position in two seasons as well.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) The Sox are that team in the middle that last offseason KW said he did not want to be. I don't think the next couple of years are going to be particularly fun to watch, but they have to wait until some contracts roll off the books to build an offense. Hopefully in that time they will have solidified their top 3 or 4 starters. Well put, Marty. I think this team is kind of in MLB hell...stuck with certain contracts that cant rid of and no true farm depth. I think the current MLB roster is as average is it truly gets. Now that 'average' label can change if any of these guys break out this year: Beckham, Ramirez, Flowers or Viciedo. We pretty much know what we will get from Konerko, Dunn, Keppinger and hopefully Rios.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 08:02 AM) Hahn has filled the holes the Sox have already. At least in terms of the major league roster. You may not like the guys he's filled them with, but if the season started today, they can field a full roster with an obvious starter and backup at each position, a rotation 6+ deep, and a full bullpen. Who is the backup catcher? Utility infielder? Also, can our current roster compete with Detroit or even KC at this point? We will need multiple guys to have career years to do so. I just do not anticipate that happening. (I have been wrong before!) I would like Hahn to make a bold move. Take a risk. Its not like we have any guys on our major league roster (except Sale) that are untouchable.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) Exactly. We'd be trading Dayan Viciedo essentially. I would give up Viciedo plus pitching to bring in CarGo. Just watch some highlights...Gold Glove defense, aggressive on the base paths, contact hitter w/ some pop. Dayan is younger and cheaper, but my goodness- this is that five tool guy that can be the next face of our franchise. Did I mention he is a lefty at bat?!? As you can tell, i'm a HUGE CarGo fan. Get creative Mr. Hahn!
  7. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) I hope the Sox make a trade for Carlos Gonzalez Ditto! The dude can play ball! Hell at this point I would be happy to see Hahn make some sort of bold move. This team pretty much as is fell short of Detroit, now you take away AJ's run production, I think we even have a tougher hill to climb.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 29, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) Gonzalez home/road splits shows he loves hitting at Coors. I'd think twice before committing to the $70M he's owed over the next 5 years. The $ is serious.... BUT the Cell is the AL version of Coors... I think he will be fine.
  9. The Rockies are throwing Carlos Gonzalez's name out there. They need young pitching... this could be option to add that lefty bat to our lineup. The dude can play! Also, Kubel seems to be coveted by White Sox management. Bruce Levine thinks something may happen there.... An outfield with Kubel, Gonzalez and Rios wouldn't be too bad. It would also balance our lineup as well.....
  10. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) Good point. And unless Hahn makes a deal and brings in a quality infielder that fits another hole (LH bat), there would be no sense in trading Beckham. To me it makes the most sense to deal an OF. Beckham does not hurt the team defensively regardless of his below average bat. We have been super patient with him- it really makes no sense to deal him at this point. Hopefully he can turn things around with the bat this summer.
  11. I think a major trade is going to happen soon. It has been way too quiet on these parts for over a month! Hahn has pretty solid pieces to move in Viciedo, Beckham, Floyd and possibly De Aza... I expect 2 out of those 4 to be dealt soon. My guess would be Viciedo and Floyd will be the ones traded. BUT to go along with this thread- here is my 2013 starting lineup if the season started today: De Aza CF Beckham 2B Rios RF Dunn DH/1B Konerko 1B/DH Ramirez SS Keppinger 3B Viciedo LF Flowers C
  12. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 07:54 AM) I was there, too. What a fantastic game and a great play by AJ. I'll miss him for sure, and my daughter was devastated when I told her the news. She loves AJ and always chose #12 for her softball jerseys. There's no doubt he was instrumental in the Sox winning the World Series, but he brought his "play as hard you can" attitude every day. There are so many things he did over the years from big homeruns to little things that just irritated the other team. He's always been the guy you hate on other teams, but I have no doubt he will get quite an ovation when he returns to the Cell next year (for his first at-bat anyway). I think Flowers will be okay. I imagine he will be a better hitter with more consistent playing time, and we already know he's got a ton of power. He could be a .250ish hitter with 20+ HRs. Or he could hit more homeruns with a lower average. We'll have to wait and see. I'm not sure about a back-up for him, though. I wonder if we'll see a minor move to acquire a decent back-up. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought back Miguel Olivo, which wouldn't be a bad thing.
  13. I am making a prediction...the Sox will make a BIG move this week-end! It has been WAY too quiet!
  14. I thought the Yankees wanted to get younger? Youkilis, Pettite, Rivera... hmmm?
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 12:22 PM) Ok, I just won't post what I hear. Well if you hear news from a legitimate source, by all means we want you to post info. All lemon wants to know its where your source comes from. Its a good question. Believe me, if this upton stuff is true- nobody will be more excited than me!
  16. I do think the White Sox will get another OF. I haven't read through this entire post, is there validity to this Upton discussion or is it just merely speculation? I have been an Upton fan for a long time. He would be a great addition to this lineup. I'm assuming they can get decent chips back for a Viciedo deal which can eventually lead to a bigger deal.... It is interesting to say the least that they are floating both him and De Aza around right now... Whats the latest with the AJ talks?
  17. A part of me wants to give Flowers a full season to prove his worth. Another part of me is really scared of all those strike outs coming from his at bats. We already have that issue with Dunn. If AJ's price-tag comes down, lock him up! If not, I guess we should take our chances with Flowers....
  18. I do think we will have a completely different outfield this year but i do NOT want to spend 100 million on Hamilton.
  19. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) According to CSNChicago.com White Sox Insider Dan Hayes, Viciedo is one of several White Sox youngsters who may be available. As evidence, Hayes cited “four rival executives” who believe that Hahn is “open” to trading the young left fielder. Make no mistake about it; Viciedo’s days in a White Sox uniform could be numbered because of his contract status. Hayes pointed out in his article that “Viciedo’s contract stipulates he must earn 80 percent of the $3.5 million he pulled in last season, which equates to $2.8 million.” Factor in the $1 million pro-rated share of his $4 million signing bonus and Viciedo stands to get, at minimum, a $300,000 raise in 2013. At $3.8 million, he may be a bit out of Hahn’s price range. Now, if Viciedo’s price tag does necessitate a move, what is Hahn’s best option? A three-team trade, of course, and Hahn is already thinking the same thing. Hahn was quoted in the Chicago Tribune on Thursday saying that the conversations he’s had at the general managers meetings in California “may lead to some three-way deals in the coming weeks." One potential trade scenario would involve the Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres. -The Padres receive Asher Wojciechowski (2-2 with a 2.06 ERA in eight starts at Double-A Corpus Christi) from the Astros and Gavin Floyd from the White Sox -The Astros acquire Viciedo and Double-A pitcher Nestor Molina from the White Sox -The White Sox get third baseman Chase Headley and a prospect (anyone will do) from the Padres. As important as the players involved are, a three-team trade does something that may be even more so. See, by combining Floyd’s $9.5 million salary with Viciedo’s, Hahn would shave a potential total of $13.3 million from the White Sox' payroll. Hahn could then use that money to lock up Alejandro De Aza into a long-term contract and sign Headley to an extension with money to spare. Outside-the-box thinking, to be sure, but this is an example of what adding Viciedo in a trade could do. In all fairness, this column is not advocating for a trade. In fact, an argument can be made that Viciedo is someone to build the future around. He is young, talented and full of potential. If Viciedo’s worth is put into this context, however, trading him could be a great idea. I brought up the possible trade for Headley awhile back. It makes perfect sense for us. It fills a position for years to come. A position that we have no talent at in the farm, a position that has limited talent in the free agent market. I wouldn't mind dealing Viciedo because OF spots are easier to fill than infield spots and we do have some OF talent in the farm if they chose to go that route.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) I don't think we'll make a splash just to do it. I'm okay with bringing Youk in at a reasonable price instead of selling the farm for someone like Moustakas (who would be AWESOME on the right deal) Making a splash is what this team needs. The team as is, will still come in 2nd to Detroit.
  21. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 06:08 PM) In the ESPN article it sounds like Rick Hahn doesnt seem optimistic that they will find an upgrade at 3rd base. Given that the market is so poor. If he did learn anything from KW- its to fly under the radar and to put up smoke screens. I don't buy it!
  22. One thing I love about this organization is the amount of respect they give the fans. The fact he took time to answer some fan questions is really cool. The fact that they lowered prices on tix/parking is super cool too. I truly love being a fan of this organization and would love to see them bring home (at least) one more for J.R.! On a side note- it seems like they are looking hard for a new 3b. This is awesome! My biggest fear was for them to take another chance with Morel or a cheap flash in the pan type option. I really hope they do look into young talent like Chase Headley. But if the return price is too high, I wouldn't mind them bringing back Youk at the right price. I just have a feeling that Hahn will pull off some blockbuster soon in regards to addressing the 3b spot. I wouldn't be surprised to see any of the following dealt at this point in a mega deal (Ramirez, Beckham, Viciedo, Floyd or Rios)
  23. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:34 PM) I really hope Gavin is being held out as trade bait. I don't want him or his loser mentality in this rotation anymore. I disagree. I think Gavin can have a 2005 Garland type season in 2013. Like Garland, Floyd will be slotted in the 4th slot.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) Chase Headley is younger, cheaper, and better than Alex Rios. Why in the world would the Padres give him up for Rios? I know everyone would love to see Headley at 3rd on the South Side, but I think a lot of people are underestimating his value. I mentioned in my post that Rios would be a part of a package that can help bring Headley over. They would likely have to part ways with Quintana and another prospect or two. Rios is coming off a solid year- which does make him attractive to buyers.
  25. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) Me too man! We haven't had a good #3 hitter since Quentin. We need a badass to push Dunn down in the order to 6 or something so everyone is happy. I hope Hahn goes after one. What kind of big name are you thinking? Personally I think the Sox should sell high on Rios. If you look at his past 4 seasons its been off-on-off-on. This team can't afford another 'off' year out of him. I wouldn't mind shipping him off to SD in a package for 3B Chase Headley. In a separate deal, I can see them go strong after Jacoby Ellsbury. The Red Sox are in the process of rebuilding and would love to aqcuire younger talent for their talented OF. Red Sox fans also share the same thoughts: http://news.yahoo.com/time-red-sox-trade-j...00571--mlb.html
