QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:13 PM) Gonzo mentioned that in the Trib the other day too. My guess is, that is plan B or C. But we'll find out. I hope its plan E

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:09 PM) I've a feeling A Rod will be in a Sox uniform. certainly a possibility if Hahn can get creative with that horrible contract.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:03 PM) keithlaw @keithlaw Peavy was 6th on my free agent rankings. So, yeah, that's a pretty slick move by the White Sox. I'm still expecting Hahn to make some sort of bold move this fall! Some sort of big name will be dealt in a package for another big time player.....

This is a solid deal. They are not breaking the bank on a guy like Greinke and Peavy can have similar results. I really hope the dude can stay healthy like he did in 2012. And call me crazy (not call me maybe), but I also like the Floyd deal. There is a premium on starting pitching these days and Gavin finished the season strong. As a 4th starter in this rotation, he can do very good things. Next on the list: 1) Address the catcher spot. Do they re-sign AJ? 2) Whats going on with 3b? (re-sign Youk, sign a veteran like Chavez or even go after ARod?) 3) Sell high on Rios or Dunn? 4) Bullpen help? Do we stick with Reed or do we go after a guy like Soria who is coming off major surgery? I LOVE HOTSTOVE season!

There is no question that Ozzie lost his touch. I am curious to see what Robin can do with a great starting rotation and more talented players.... he clearly won more games with less talent in 2012. I wonder what Hahn will do to build on that?

The Sox experience is great the way it is. Obviously having restaurants and bars around the ballpark would be HUGE for fan postgame experiences. But the bicardi at the park was a step in that direction. I love what the organization is doing to accommodate the fan base for all ages. They lowered prices on parking and tickets. That is fantastic! What this organization needs is a right handed ACE and a 3B. I wouldn't mind a veteran closer as well.

In typical KW fashion, will his big offseason move be A-Rod?

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 06:53 PM) If they can't get Youk back at a discount and KW can pull of a Youk type trade where they eat a ton of salary it wouldn't be the worst idea. Arod >>>> Morel Anybody>>>>Morel. I wouldn't mind looking into an A-Rod deal... but it has to be at the right price. The dude has taken steroids and we have tried that before with Manny Ramirez and that failed. I would much rather KW sign Youk or another veteran 3B on the market to an affordable 2 year deal. -
how would YOU fix the sox attendance woes?
GreatScott82 replied to ewokpelts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Most half price Monday games are sell outs or close to it. If they can offer a 2nd half price day during the week (say on Thursdays), I think that will improve attendance tremendously. Those promotional codes are too 'secretive', let the fans know how to save money on tickets and they will show. White Sox nation is hungry for another contender and although we spent 100+ days in 1st place, this team still had too many missing pieces to be considered a contender and i'm guessing many other fans thought that as well. -
1) My first move this offseason would be to sell high on Rios. You can hopefully get a quality starting pitcher in return and/or some prospects. 2) Say goodbye to Liriano, Myers, Peavy and Hudson. 3) Shock the baseball climate and sign Grienke and Hamilton. 4) Re-sign AJ and Youk to two year deals and take Floyd's 9.5 million option. (he is overdue for a good year) Our payroll will likely go up to 115-120 million with these moves, but Reiny isn't getting any younger. 2013 Starting Lineup: De Aza CF Youkilis 3B Hamilton LF Dunn DH Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Viciedo RF Ramirez SS Beckham 2B 2013 Rotation 1. Grienke R 2. Sale L 3. Danks L 4. Floyd R 5. Quintana L Obviously this is my dream scenario.... who knows what KW and Hahn have in mind.

The most talented teams to not make the playoffs were the 2003 and 2006 teams. This team really did over achieve. I give KW credit for not trading away the farm just to keep them in the chase. We pretty much got Youk, Liriano and Myers for nothing. Did it work out in the end, NO. But we can now go to the drawing board knowing what you have, and what you need. Also, for the first time- we will have $ to spend on FA's. Trading pieces: Sell high on Rios! He never has 2 solid years in a row and it will be nice to free up even more money! I would like to trade Rios for more farm depth. Biggest need for 2013- Pitching! Lets turn this around for next year! We are getting closer!!

Just win. I don't care how, I don't care who contributes, just win. Yes these past 2 weeks have sucked. Lets not just let the Tigers win the division because they were "supposed" to. You are only 1.5 games back with 7 to go! Most teams would LOVE to be in this position. Today, I am the BIGGEST Twin fan ever. Today I hope the Sox can remember how to just relax and play baseball. Today, I hope Peavy can be that 2007 cy young pitcher we traded for. Today, I still believe. Some may call me crazy, but I still believe. A couple of encouraging facts: Detroit is 34-41 on the road this year. They no longer play at home this year. Detroit is only 8-7 vs the Twins. The White Sox are currently 3-0 vs the Rays in 2012. Discouraging facts: The Tigers won again today forcing the Sox to play in a "must win" game vs a tough opponent. I STILL BELIEVE! -
Santiago starting tomorrow - per the Score

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) Not after they inserted Santiago and pushed back Peavy. If you notice Quintana has been pulled from Friday's start. I am assuming it will look like this the rest of the way: Santiago (CLE) Peavy (TB) Floyd (TB) Sale (TB) Liriano/Quintana (TB) Santiago ( @ CLE) Peavy (@ CLE) Floyd (@ CLE) Right now it is currently set up to be a Chris Sale vs Justin Verlander match up for game 163. -
On this very date in 2005 the Sox were only up 1.5 games over the Indians. The Indians lost 3 straight vs the very bad Royals and Devil Rays at the the time to help put us over. Today we are only up 1 game and in similar fashion, the team chasing us is playing two very bad teams with nothing to lose. I know we have slumped over the past week, but lets enjoy this ride to the finish. Nobody would have predicted this to start the year and I am super excited to be in this position. These next 7 home games are crucial and I have a feeling, our friends from KC will do some damage for us LETS GO WHITE SOX! WAKE UP!
-
History has indicated that all you need to do is GET IN THE PLAYOFFS. From there, anything is possible!

White Sox unlikely to pick up Peavy's option
GreatScott82 replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He has pitched pretty well this year overall. But we need to move forward IMO. You just can never count on him being healthy long term. -
Despite our good season, we have MANY ?'s
GreatScott82 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am definitely not concerned about 2013 yet. However, we will FINALLY have $ to spend and we do have tools to be creative. -
There is a lot of baseball left to be played. They still need to prove that they can beat KC in a series before I look at any magic #'s. This was a damn awesome win though

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 15, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) This begs the question oif what we are going to do next year. Of course we need to WINM this year but in 2-013 we must decide on a closer. I wonder where Reed is going to fit in? He may be lights out next year after his 2012 experiences but I just don't know KW didn't have a problem with trading Santos... I'm sure he can get something decent in return for Reed as well if he truly feels he can't be a good long term closer.

I was proud to join in 2004 and celebrate the world series championship season of 2005 with you guys. So many long nights in those chatrooms with you guys during the final stretch in September that year when Cleveland gave us a scare!

It will be interesting to see how the Sox respond vs the Twins this week. If they take care of business and regain momentum, I can easily see them taking 3 of 4 vs Detroit at the Cell next week. Just take one game at a time! This is far from ova. This happened before where Detroit took the lead, but we bounced back at took it from them. Lets do that again! GO WHITE SOX! WAKE UP!!!!

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 09:31 AM) obviously we have to see how liriano pitches the rest of the way but if he does well, i rather have liriano. i dont really like our chances with floyd against a big time starter like weaver, verlander, etc but liriano can shut down any lineup and id take my chances with him. but it is a tough decision with the 4 lefties though Makes me wonder if KW will use one of those lefties in a trade to acquire a right handed ACE. If Quintana can finish the year strong, there will be a lot of teams salivating for his services this winter. It appears to be me that Seattle is going into a solid rebuilding mode, King Felix has 2 years left on his contract after this year..... (I love Quintana and think he has a BRIGHT future, but for the King- i'd gladly say goodbye!) My ideal offseason: Let Floyd walk, Let Peavy walk. Re-sign Liriano to a 2 year deal w/ a 3rd year option. Trade Quintana, Reed and prospects for King Felix. Rotation: Sale King Felix Danks Liriano Humber/ Axelrod/ Castro to battle it out in ST 2013 I wouldn't mind keeping Jake after what he has done for the team this year, but the guy is still an injury risk. Now if he would give the Sox a discount for maybe 9-10 mill/ season for 2-3 years, i'd say go for it. If thats the case than i would not mind seeing both Liriano and Floyd go. I'd still make that King Felix deal though
-
I am not worried about the rotation going into the offseason. If you look at the starters who will be testing the market, KW will have plenty of options. Personally, I would love to see what Liriano could do in a full year with the Sox. You can probably sign him up to a reasonable deal. I'm guessing they wont take Floyds option. If the Sox make the playoffs this year, we could see a boost in payroll. If that happens, I wouldn't be suprised if KW goes after a true stud- King Felix! It will cost al ot of prospects and money, but he is that true #1.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 08:36 AM) Well that and the common sense that his is a horrible contract after this year. Yea it is pretty bad. Hopefully Danks can come back strong next year. There are a lot of quality starters heading into free agency this year- so KW will have his options.
