Interleague Changes for 2013 and Beyond
GreatScott82 replied to cabiness42's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Dont get me wrong, I like the way things are but how about expansion? Add one additional team to each league and do what the NFL did by having four divisions to each league? This can then eliminate the "wildcard" and there will be 8 divisional winners each year competing in the post season. Example: AL East : Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Orioles AL South: Rays, Rangers, Astros, Royals AL North: White Sox, Twins, Tigers, Indians AL West: Athletics, Angels, Mariners, Expansion team (Portland?) NL East: Mets, Phillies, Pirates, Nationals NL South: Marlins, Braves, Rockies, Expansion team (Oklahoma City?) NL North: Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Cardinals NL West: Giants, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Padres Just an idea since the MLB seems to be desperate for change these days. -
No Ozzie, means No Cowley, which means no drama. Ahhhh what a breath of fresh air

This team has been fun to watch. The chemistry is there for sure. Robin is doing such a great job with this bunch. If Floyd, Beckham and Ramirez can get going- this team has the make up to be scary good. And who is this Rios guy? The man is playing like he is possessed!

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) The Greinke mental thing is overblown. He's a top 5 or 10 starter in the MLB right now in an environment stacked with amazing starters. I'd love to have him. I'd love to extend him. That said, we won;t get him because he won;t be worth the talent unless we extend him, and I believe most of that money went to Danks. If you make a trade for a SP with an expirering contract you BETTER extend him right away. One thing you have to remember is Peavy's big contract is off the books after this season so that gives the team a better chance at signing another pitcher to a long term deal. Not to mention the Sox may opt to no take that option of Floyd giving them even more flexibility. I think we have a much better chance in acquirering a mid-level starter over a guy like Grienke/Hamels. At least that is the case if we want to keep Viciedo.

Does anyone know where I can find a link for a white sox updated payroll chart? The Sox are in a unique situation as they may finally have some financial flexibility next off season. I would like to see where they currently stand. Can someone send me a link??

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) Does Flowers have any options remaining? I don't want to lose him for a marginal upgrade at backup catcher, especially when there is no guarantee A.J. will back next year. It would be foolish to let A.J. walk next year. The dude is getting better offensively as he ages. He probably has a good 2 years left in the tank. I think Flowers is a decent backup and dont feel an urgency to upgrade there. I think we should definitley bring in one more veteran for the pen, but other than that- this team is solid. If Danks comes back strong we are golden with a rotation of Sale, Peavy, Quintana, Floyd and Danks to end the season. Our offense is more than solid! Our bullpen is young, but they seem pretty fearless out there and that impresses me. Hopefully Crain can come back strong, if not, im sure KW will address this issue. Lets beat those Jays!

Youkilis has been awesome. The fact that he has only been here 2 weeks and has made such a positive impact already is saying a lot! I was at the game yesterday and the fans were cheering louder for him than Konerko! Yoooouuuk is here to stay!!!! Awesome move- KW!

Time to wake up our offense!! Sale will be challenged big time tonight! LETS GO WHITE SOX! -
Keep the offense up Lets win this series today!
-
If Quintana can mow down New York's lineup, then im officially sold on the guy! Lets bring home another W! Lets continue to suprise the baseball world! LETS SCORE EARLY AND OFTEN!
-
That was by far the most exciting win of the season. They took advantage of a huge throwing error and good teams usually do that. This team just keeps surprising me. Viciedo is getting better and better. And i am just going to say it now- our most under rated player is De Aza. This dude just quietly brings it every day and has been a catalyst for our offense. This team is fun to watch

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:21 AM) That seven-game road sweep in NY & Cleveland is probably my favorite pre-2005 Sox moment. That was fantastic. I remember fans actually gave them a standing ovation when they arrived home from that road trip. We can use a series like that vs NY again However, I will be more than content with a series split. NY is playing really good ball right now. I am looking for an offensive explosion from our guys!
-
The rejuvination from Rios, Dunn and Peavy is definitley the reason why this team is in first place. They NEED to keep it up for us to win this thing. Also, having Chris Sale on our team helps The dude is filthy!
-
This would be a big win for the club as they head to New York for a very tough four game series. Lets give Sale some offense tonight! WAKE UP BATS!

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox

Love the deal! If Youk can get his swing back- we can be a very scary offensive team! -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) So is Dylan Axelrod taking a rotation spot, or Brian Bruney, who started his last game in AAA? Im assuming Axelrod will replace Humber and Bruney will go into a long relief role.
-
QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) Adam Hoge @AdamHogeCBS Philip Humber's injury is a "right elbow flexor strain". #WhiteSox Wow do we need starting pitching ASAP! Hope KW is making those calls.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 08:39 AM) I'm still not convinced we aren't talking about selling parts in a month and a half. This team is regressing to the mean very quickly. Agreed. Lets see where this team is come July. If we fall to 5-6 games back (which is possible with the way they have been playing). KW can likely get a quality package for Peavy. Also, if I were KW i would see if he can possibly move Rios. You want to clear as much payroll as possible and we all know Rios has a pattern of having 1 good year, then one bad year. If we are out of it in July, I really hope KW can find a way to deal him away.

John Danks diagnosed with a grade 1 scapula tear

Floyd really needs to wake up now! Ugh! And if Humber struggles one more time, send him to the pen and rock the Axelrod. -
hahaha I love your optimism Steve! I hope he can keep it up and he definitley is a smart pitcher and knows how to get out of trouble- LOVE that. He will be one hell of a #5 the rest of the season thats for sure. Over the next 5 years is left to be seen

Something has to be done to improve the rotation
GreatScott82 replied to sunofgold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What really impressed me about Quintana is that he got himself in some trouble but always made the perfect pitch for them to ground into a double play. He is a smart young pitcher and its refreshing to see. In regards to the rotation. When Danks is 100% healthy, you move Humber into the long relief role as he has been pretty bad lately. He is leaving everything up in the zone and just has lost his touch. Let him work on that in the pen. Floyd has also been bad this season, but I have seen some signs of a Floyd comeback, his curve is slowly coming back and when that happens he can be a dangerous pitcher. -
No to SoriaNO. He can definitley be a decent run producer as an AL DH but not at his current cost. Even if the Cubs eat half of his salary, he is still over paid. The area we need to upgrade the most is starting pitching. After Sale and Peavy we have had no real consistent pitcher. Floyd may turn it around but with the Danks injury and Humbers lack luster performances, we need at LEAST one more veteran starting pitcher over anything else. Our offense is perfectly fine.

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 05:56 PM) I'd LOVE Chase Headley, although it would likely cost Mitchell and a pitching prospect. If you look at the guy's lines away from San Diego, you realize that he might be one of the top 10 3Bs in the game. Chase Headley would be a huge upgrade at 3b. But SD has him under control until 2014 so they really no have urgency to deal him. We would really have to offer a quality package and that is something we can't offer this season. We need to add to the farm, not take away the little talent we have down there. We are stuck with O-Dawg and Brent (I can't hit anything) Morel. Hopefully he learns to swing the bat down in the farm.
-
I think what you see right now (at .500) is pretty accurate to where we will likely be all year. Rios, Dunn, Konerko, AJ and Viciedo have had a nice offensive approach. Morel and Beckham look aweful with the bat. Alexei is looking decent. The pitching will make or break this team. This past week it hasn't been pretty. I think Hector will continue to improve as a closer. The good news is, the AL Central looks pretty mediocre thusfar. That means we may be hanging around all year long, making each game have an actually meaning.
