  1. I think the Sox will keep AJ one more year with Flowers seeing time as a DH and a backup for AJ. It wouldn't make much sense dealing him as he wouldn't bring much back in return. Unless the Sox are desperate to shed $6 million of course?
  2. I think the Sox will keep PK. However, I can definitley see them trading AJ since Flowers showed us all that he can be a decent catcher who has a bit of power to provie the offense. When the White Sox decided to pull off the "White Flag" deal in 1997, they kept Frank Thomas to be the "key veteran piece" to the younger team. That is what PK will be. It is unfortanate we are stuck with Rios and Dunn. Hopefully they can boost up their trade value by having a good half of 2012. I think Buerhle is all but gone. Danks and Quentin are likely to be dealt for young talent. AJ can hopefully bring us back an arm for the pen. It will be an interesting few seasons on the southside. Hopefully Viciedo, Sale and Flowers can take advantage of this opporutunity. Hopefully Morel can play every day and continue to improve. Hopefully Beckham can wake up offensively!
  3. Wow. Jerry Manuel part 2? Loved Robin as a player, but the dude barely has coaching experience
  4. I wonder if the Yankees would accept a Danks for Gardener deal? They will be in a desperate need for pitching this offseason and im sure they can just replace Gardener on the free agent market somewhere.
  5. I think signing Dave Martinez would be an awesome thing for our team. Look at what Tampa has done the past 3 out 4 seasons, they have put together one hell of an organization down there. Martinez and Madden obviously know how to get the best out of their young talent. If the Sox want to go younger and all signs indicate thats the direction we are headed, Martinez is the guy. I'll be curious to see how he handles Rios and Dunn next year. Obviously Ozzie's approach didn't work. Perhaps Martinez can light a fire under them?
  6. The Sox wont go after any big name free agents this year. They need to unload contracts rather than add. We need to remember we are stuck with Dunn, Rios and Peavy next year. (Thats $30 million of dead weight) I expect Quentin to be dealt along with one of Danks or Floyd (probably Danks) for a package of nice young players. I also expect Buerhle to be re-signed to a 2-3 year deal at a reasonable rate.
  7. The first thing that needs to be addressed is the coaching staff/ upper management. Something needs to happen. We can't have this KW vs Ozzie crap anymore. I'm done with it.
  8. I'm guessing Ozzie will be retained for the final year of his deal and KW will be moved up as Team President. Hahn has been over due for a promotion. I highly doubt Ozzie will get extended since they haven't made the playoffs in 3 seasons. This has by far been Ozzie's worst year managing. However, KW has been pretty bad at evaluating and bringing in players the last 2-3 years, creating this mess we currently have. KW has been known for his risk taking maneauvers but the Peavy trade has been a bust, the Rios waiver claim has been a financial nightmare and Dunn is absolutely horrible in the AL. The three of those guys combined will make $40 million next year. It pains me that we lost Gio Gonzalez for Swisher who we later traded for nothing. It pains me that we lost Dan Hudson for Edwin Jackson who in return got us Zach Stewart (jury still out, but Hudson appears much better)
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 08:33 AM) The Sox have to go 8-2 the next ten. Win tonight, and come home and go 7-2 like a championship team does at home. If the Sox do that, then they've earned their way back into the race. If the Sox go 8-2 over the next time and go 7-2 at home they will likely be in first place. Gotta love the AL Central.
  10. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) If we became buyers. I wonder who Kenny will go after They don't really have the means to be buyers this year.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) The teams record has nothing to with what Q has done this year. Yep. CQ & PK are the main reasons we are not 10-15 games below .500 right now. The reason we are 1 game under is because Rios and Dunn took major dumps this season when we counted on them to be major run producers.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) We really don't need to get MLB ready pitching back from ATL. We've got a 7 man bullpen that just got an upgrade and 5 guys who are starting, 4 of whom are performing well, 3 of whom will give you 7 innings almost every time out. Very true. But with the uncertainty of Peavy's health, it is always good to have a little bit of insurance and even more depth. I wonder if KW demands a return package including Brandon Beachy?
  13. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) probably already been posted, it's not a brand new tweet... just been skimming the beatwriters/bloggers twitter accounts http://twitter.com/#!/BNightengale/sta...386194459459584 "The trouble with trading Quentin is that it would signify they're giving up" He thinks that if we trade CQ, it's a give up/rebuild trade.. I'm sure most people would think that. Especially since he is our hottest hitter. However, the AL Central is very winable regardless if we have TCQ or not. If "Tank" is ready for full time at the big league level and we get MLB ready pitching in return from ATL- then you never know!
  14. Oh and if we some how make the playoffs (God willing). My rotation would be: Buerhle, Floyd, Danks and Peavy (for 5 innings) with Humber being the emergency back up. Floyd seems to be getting back on track and if he gets hot now, we are in great shape!
  15. QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) playoffs?!?!?? What the hell? Who starts next in Jackson's spot and then who starts when Peavy goes back on the dl? Actually the playoffs isn't that far of a reach. We have been mediocre at best all year long and we are only 3.5 games back. We are 5-2 vs NY and Boston this year thusfar and our pitching has been pretty solid all season. If some how, some way they go on a 9-10 game winning streak, the division is all for the taking. We could have easily swept Detroit and it'll be interesting to see how they do vs Boston and New York. At first I wanted them to sell high and trade TCQ. But now I just want them to ride this thing out and see where it takes them. TCQ has been one of our only sources of offense since the ASB. If anything, his value will still be high in the offseason, so KW can wheel and deal then.
  16. Frasor has nice #'s. His strike out #s are up there as well. This dude seems pretty darn effective. And Rios is benched. Hmmmm maybe this is a good deal for uS! Lets just hope Humber can continue to pick up where he left off in the first half. I'm suprisingly more optimistic than i thought i'd be. **KW Tape will be played on the SCORE in 2 mins.**
  17. Rios to be benched for not just today but a long period of time according to the SCORE.
  18. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) Where? David Shuster just mentioned that on the SCORE. He will play the tape in about 15 mins
  19. KW interview will happen in 10 mins to explain deal.
  20. I would have done the Rasmus for Ejax and Thorton for sure. But since Sale will be inserted in the rotation next year, we would still need that lefty set up man. This turned out to be a pure salary dump on our part. JR wants to shed some salary so that is what is happening right now. I wouldn't be suprised to see Quentin go next. Hopefully the return package will be a bit higher on that one!!
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:11 AM) That's the only wat this makes sense. So Toronto is getting Rasmus and not us? We just the services of a reliever for a season and a half and an unknown prospect?
  22. If this deal is true than i REALLY hate that Hudson deal. Kenny really dropped the ball on that deal. I'm a huge KW supporter but he really needs to start being more patient with our young pitching prospects. That Swisher for Gio Gonzalez deal still hurts me. Can you imagine a young starting rotation of Floyd, Danks, Gonzalez, Hudson, and Sale going into the future?
  23. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) I sure as hell hope that the bolded isn't even a consideration. We needed to be creative this year with Peavy's condition, but doing this again next year would be nuts, IMO. We have Peavy under contract for next year too. If we had to protect his health this year, what makes you believe we shouldn't protect it next year? He has done nothing to prove to us that he can go a full season of being healthy.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) The problem there is there isn't much pitching on the open market. At least 5 teams have been linked to the Cardinals and Rasmus, the Rays are hot after him too. I trust that scouting department. Me too! Lets bring in Colby!
  25. This trade makes a TON of sense for the Sox. It free ups some cap space, we get a guy who can potentially be an all star and it allows us to make other deals. For instance- trading TCQ for Beachy. Getting rid of TCQ will definitley hurt but adding a very young starter to our rotation makes a ton of sense for the future. We also have Viciedo waiting in the wings. With Buerhle and Jackson off the books after the 2011 season- we would only have Peavy, Danks, Floyd and Humber locked in for 2012. Adding a young & cheap Beachy to that rotation would be just what the doctor ordered. Also, all signs point to Sale being added to the rotation in 2012. So if the Sox wanted to continue the 6 man rotation in 2012- they would have the flexbility to continue to do that. Next year, Pierre also comes off the books. So that could potentially open up a door to move Viciedo to LF, shift Rios to RF and have Rasmus be the every day CF in 2012. Its time to start thinking about the future. We also can compete for a division title at the same time if everything goes right.
