  1. I wonder if KW can somehow get creative and involve a 3rd team to the mix to add even more pitching for Milwaukee. This is the only scenario i can see how a deal would work w/o giving up Beckham. Also, can the White Sox involve Jared Mitchell in a deal yet? I know there is a limit on newly drafted players.
  2. Fielder/Parra- White Sox (My BOLD SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER PREDICTION) Haren- Tigers Lilly- Phillies Oswalt- Cardinals Aramis Ramirez- Tigers Berkman- Angels
  3. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) I know that Ozzie is supposed to say the team is fine, but damn am I tired of hearing that. To everyone else there is a glaring need for a left-handed bat. KW will bring in someone. I can promise you that. He wans to make a HUGE splash in Fielder- but many think the Sox don't have enough ammo unless they part ways with Bacon.
  4. 2009- I remember coming home from Bourbonnais last year and my brother called and told me about Jake Peavy. I didn't even believe him. Man was i pumped up! 2008- The Ken Griffey JR deal was a lot of fun! (paid off in the Blackout game) 2005- Geoff Blum's arrival completed 'Group 4' 2004- Freddy Garcia, Carl Everett and Jose Contreras were outstanding pickups by KW! (although not all 3 were at the deadline) 2003- Roberto Alomar and Carl Everett on the same day!
  5. I was at that 2003 Frank Thomas Walk-off vs the Twins. It was also the debut of Everett part 1 and Roberto Alomar.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Now that I can't imagine. You don't think they will throw in $4 mill for 2011? I know its far fetched for a team like Milwaukee to do so. . . but a Hudson/Viciedo centered package is pretty damn solid.
  7. KW WONT trade Hudson AND Viciedo for Dunn. It will be one or the other. If Rizzo asking price doesn't come down, I can actually see KW getting creative to aqcuire Fielder with Milwaukee throwing some us some cash. There was a Milwaukee scout at the Sox-Mariner game watching Hudson last night. Milwaukee is desperate for a potential #2-3 starting pitcher.
  8. According to Adam Kilgore from the Washington Post White Sox scouts have been at the Washington-Florida series this weekend.
  9. Speaking of Mitchell, whats the latest on his injury? Will he be ready for ST 2011?
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) And that would still cost Hudson plus one or both of Flowers and Viciedo. How are you going to realistically replace Konerko and Pierzynski when like $85 million is locked up between 13 players already? And beyond that, with Freddy Garcia proving that he's been healthy (thus far) and league average, you can count on him costing in the neighborhood of $5-8 mill next year while he remains the same injury risk he's always been, if not a bigger injury risk with another year on his arm and him getting a year older. Quite honestly, any player the Sox were to acquire at this point would likely come in as a (semi-)rental player, and would be resigned pretty much only if the Sox won the World Series or atleast made a deep run in the postseason. The Sox simply can't afford much else. Putting those eggs in the "deep postseason run" basket before the end of July could very easily be a misstep, and then having to deal them again in the offseason to avoid losing a substantial amount of money would not only leave the team in a terrible PR situation, it would also be a waste of resources as they wouldn't get the same value back as they traded away in July. I still think the biggest trade the Sox could make is for Adam Dunn, but I'm expecting Adam LaRoche (with whom I would be perfectly content), and it's entirely possible and plausible that they don't make a single move. Assuming Quentin maintains productivity and Beckham is indeed turning it around, the Sox have 4 legitimate bats in the order, and have other solid contributors such as Jones, Ramirez, Teahen, and Pierzynski, and to some extent, guys like Kotsay, Pierre, and Vizquel as well. A move would be nice, but I don't believe it's an absolute necessity unless they can get the right price on the right guy. Very nice post. I just truly believe starting pitching is the most important ingrediant to have for a long successful post season run. We saw in 2008 that Floyd was burned out. And we can't expect Freddy to continue to do what he is doing without a break. We need depth to continue to give our bullpen days off. We have arguably the best bullpen in the AL and we NEED to keep it fresh. Is Oswalt the answer? Maybe, maybe not. One thing we have to remember is- Hudson was supposed to be insurance for a Freddy Garcia failure (to injury or lack of production). Now that Peavy is out- we have to be extra cautious. One more blow to the rotation- and we are in BIG BIG trouble. I think its absolutely essential that KW picks up another SP. If he can get a SP cheaper than Oswalt by all means Im for it. As far as Adam Dunn goes, Im ALL for that move. And since Dunn came out public about how he is now reluctant to sign an extension- his value probably wont be as high and hopefully wont cost us Vidiedo.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) Yes he will, because McLane has stated that he will eat money (which the Sox would need) in order to get more prospects. He is going to cost $7 mill this year, $16 mill next year, and then $16 mill in 2012 or $2 mill to buy him out. If Houston is willing to eat half of his contract. Meaning we will pay 3.5 the rest of this year. 8 mill next year and then just buy him out for 2012, I say we go for it. He is great insurance for Peavy. And if somehow Peavy returns next year we are stacked! If not perhaps another year of Freddy couldn't hurt. .
  12. Oswalt is just what the doctor ordered and wont cost nearly as much as what it cost to obtain Cliff Lee. Do It!
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) Buster_ESPN Heard this: Would-be free agent Adam Dunn has just about lost interest in working out a long-term deal with the Nationals because of what he perceives to be a lack of urgency from the team in working out a new deal. He does not feel there seems to be the same amount of interest as he has in working out contract. The Nationals are fast approaching fish-or-cut bait time with the slugger who is fast approaching his seventh consecutive with 38 or more homers. At a time when power is becoming more scarce in the game, his value would appear to be high in the forthcoming free agent market -- if the Nationals don't move fast. The closer we get to the deadline, the lower the National's asking price is going to be. Adam Dunn will be traded.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Berkman will not be traded unless he asks to be traded. He's a local product and one of the faces of the Astros and there is no way they will trade him for anything less than top prospects because they aren't going to sell him for crap and upset an already upset fan base. So if Berkman wants to go, great, we can go after him, otherwise, he'll stay unless the Astros get blown away (and he isn't worth a blown away offer). Berkman is FA after this year- it would only make sense to deal him now to get something for him. Im pretty sure Houston knows they need to start over. That team has been a mess for awhile now.
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) If we could get those peices without giving up Viciedo or Hudson - sign me the f*** up! Unfortanatley it will likely cost the Sox both Viciedo and Hudson to get this done. With Peavy out- this would hurt us unless KW goes and gets another pitcher prior to this move.
  16. actually we should be happy the Twins didn't get him!
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Where are you seeing this? Everyone else is reporting that a deal with NY is just about finalized. Good call. . I didn't do my daily trade rumor check today. Wow- what a boost for NY. Yikes what a powerhouse of a team.
  18. Its all about 2010! This team has proved most of us wrong and i am loving every bit of it.
  19. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) True but if you were to tell me that's all it would take to acquire Lee, I'd call you crazy. All arrows are pointed to Minny leading the Lee derby. Lets focus on Adam Dunn. I think the Nationals will eventually lower the cost the closer it gets to the 31st. They are playing negotiation hardball which is the smart thing to do. Obviously they are not getting Beckham or Q.
  20. If all goes well, Hudson will be in our rotation for a long long time. He is a special pitcher and I can't wait for him to impress everyone! Give him a chance people, you will not be dissappointed.
  21. Almost all championship squads rely on someone special coming up from the minors to contribute. I think most people fail to realize how special of a pitcher Daniel Hudson truly is. I am not going to panic at all. KW needs to use his resources on a slugger.
  22. The NBA sure will be boring if all 3 of the big names went to one place. Lame.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) The Peavy thing is quite a blow. We don't have enough starting pitching if Hudson is just average. I agree its a blow. But Danks, Buerhle, Garcia and Floyd have been outstanding. If Hudson doesn't perform- KW will bring in another SP. I know its a stretch, but don't be surprised if KW tries to block Minny by overpaying for Cliff Lee.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) Between this and the Bulls' epic fail in free agency, I'm taking a break from sports. Why? The White Sox are hitting all cylinders right now. All we need is similar production out of Hudson and we will be fine. If we don't get that- KW WILL bring in another starter. And the Bulls are still very much alive in the Lebron hunt. . .
