QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) What you have to remember with Dunn though is that the Nats shouldn't hesitate to offer him arbitration, and he's going to be a type A free agent almost certainly. So, the Nats can probably expect to get a late first round pick and a sandwich pick for him this offseason. Therefore...you need to offer something more valuable than those picks. I don't think Hudson for Dunn alone is enough when you count the draft picks. Do you actually think it would take both Hudson and Flowers for 1/3 season of Dunn?

Some interesting numbers with their pro-rated remaining 2010 salary as of July 31st: Adam Dunn (4.08 mil)- .283 Avg, .376 OBP, 16 HR, 39 RBI. Prince Fielder (3.57 mil, 11 mil next year)- .260 Avg, .397 OBP, 13 HR, 26 RBI. Adam LaRoche (2.38 mil)- .260 Avg, .348 OBP, 9 HR, 42 RBI.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Lance Berkman wouldn't help that much either, and even if he did get hot and find his old self, he'd still be a 1/2 stop gap. We need someone who is young and an impact bat. Whatever it would take to get and pay Fielder, we should do it. Fielder would be just what the doctor ordered. But since Boras is his agent he would most likely be a 1.5 rent-a-player. He would most likely cost the most prospects as well. Adam Dunn wouldn't cost as many prospects since this is the final year of his contract. I do agree with your assesment of Berkman. His low average worries me. LaRoche is a very interesting name. . but Im thinking KW wants a guy with a little more power.

JR hinted that the team has the resources to add to it. KW mentioned in spring training that there is something here that we don't see right now. The Sox are currently 5.5 games back and seem to be turning things around defensively and with our starting pitching. With that being said, if this team wants to make a serious run at the division, KW needs to add a bat. Teams out there who are clearly 'out of it' include the: Brewers, Astros, Pirates, Diamondbacks, Nationals, Mariners, Orioles, Cleveland and KC. I have mentioned Prince Fielder before but since his agent is Boras its highly unlikely he comes here. Adam Dunn and Lance Berkman who are both on the final years of their contracts. Who do you like who is out there?

His .192 average makes me cringe. However, I wouldn't mind getting him for cheap, send him down to triple-a for consistent playing time to see if he can fix his swing.

Freddy is the stopper! Who would have thought! Inching slowly to .500. .

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 07:01 PM) wow. some of these declarations are just so f***ing lame. Ozzie just needs to shut up and win some games. KW needs to take control of the team and the personel decisions! JR needs to stop this whole mess before July 1st. That is when I hope his 'other' team can shock the basketball world with signing of Lebron james. Soxtalk needs to keep entertaining me on a daily basis! This is the best website ever!

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) Great, we have Spencer and Heidi running our team. LOL at 'The Hills' reference!! Somebody will leave at seasons end- im guessing KW will step down as GM. JR loves Ozzie and Hahn seems very capable of taking the position. KW accommodated Ozzie by getting his boy Pierre. He even wanted to give Ozzie a lefty bat with a high OBP and Ozzie said 'no'. KW's biggest mistake was letting Ozzie put together this years team. He shouldn't have let Ozzie go with the 'rotating DH'. KW needs to take the keys back from Ozzie and do whats best for the organization. I would much rather Ozzie get fired than see KW go. I think that go getter mentality for the past 10 years is exactly what this team needed in a GM- it got us one World Title and I truly believe KW has what it takes to bring us another.

Over .500 and within 5 games by the end of the month!

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) Just speaking in hypothetical terms how exactly would you pull that off without weakening said rotation? another thing, last year we got Rios for nothing. A similar situation can occur with Fielder if we eat up the rest of the contract. So instead of Hudson and Danks with them eating some of the contract, it would be just Hudson with us taking ALL of it. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) So why would he be a good fit for this Sox team that's looking to reload/rebuild next year? Why use up all of our expendable money on one player? Well if we went after him this year- it means we are in the hunt for the division and so far KW hasn't pulled off any deals that would indicate we are rebuilding. The bullpen is there and if the SP continues to pitch well- that Left hander power bat is just what the doctor ordered. Now if we keep losing- yeah I can definitley see a HUGE overhaul before the deadline and during the offseason. As of right now, the pulse is still beating. . its slow, but its still beating. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) Just speaking in hypothetical terms how exactly would you pull that off without weakening said rotation? Well if we are paying all of the remaining contract perhaps with just giving up Hudson and Viciedo would suffice? Granite its likely not going to happen as Milwaukee is going to ask for a hole hell of a lot more and KW does not want to give up on this starting rotation. . well at least not yet. First things first- get to .500 and then we can reavaluate. There is 99 games remaining. -

QUOTE (maki @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) no, fielder is not coming to the white sox, even if we rattle off 10 in a row, which is a pipe dream along the lines of trading for fielder. your probably right. but a guy with a high OBP to plug in the 5 hole is just what the team needs. Fielder recently rejected a HUGE offer from Milwaukee so he would certaintly be a rental player for 1.5 years. -

If we get to .500 and get even closer to Minny. . I wonder if KW will go hard after Fielder? I know it sounds outragous right now- but the SP has been promising. -

All Alexie had to do was put it in play. Konerko's approach was not very patient like usual and Q- pops everything up! I wish AJ was up right there. Kudos to Gavin for pitching one hell of a ballgame! We at least won the series. The Twins seem to be coming back down to earth here. We need to win another 4 in a row before we face Strasburg. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) This is like the third time I've had to say this in a week, so let me say it as clearly as I can. Dayan Viciedo is no longer a 3b. They have moved Dayan Viciedo to 1b. Dayan Viciedo is a 1b. He will not play 3b. A 3rd times a charm Balta? My bad man. -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) Which would be a very nice offensive number coming from a 2nd baseman. It's certainly attainable for him. A bigger question on this team is.........Will Quentin ever regain or come close to his 2008 form? I'm going to go out on a limb and say no. At the same time, it does us nothing by dealing him now. Give Q and Beckham an entire season to see if they can turn it around. Guys that are almost certain to leave are Konerko, AJ, Jenks and Putz. Guys that can stay or go include: Pierre, Peavy (only few teams can afford him), Buerhle (St. Louis), Kotsay- if someone needs a bench player- they got one! Andruw Jones- where did this guy go? Younger guys that KW may give up on: Teahen- this was just a bad move. He's bad defensively and isn't that great offensively. I'm tired of this project ALREADY. Either we keep him as a super sub or KW will deal him and eat half the contract. Floyd- is he only going through a terrible stretch of games or is his career taking a turn for the worst? KW is going to have to be patient with this one. Guys to bring up: There isn't many who have deserved to come up- but i would like to see Viciedo come up to play some 3b at some point in the year. Obviously if we deal AJ- that means Flowers will come up as well. Its time to let these guys get some MLB at bats. -

Just blow it up! Shed as much salary as you can. Get back some prospects that can make a difference in the next few years. -
Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?
GreatScott82 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The entire organization is in a sad state. Even the guys down in Charlotte are doing pretty bad. So even if we do deal the veterans (and we will), we have nobody to bring up other than maybe Viciedo for 3b. Time to re-stock the farm! -

watching this game tonight pretty much sums up the season. WE ARE BAD! -
Great win. Pena is impressing me big time lately!! We are slowly getting there. Just need to pick it up defensively and KW still needs to pick up a DH.

I know its early but Teahen doesn't really do it for me. IMO he has already reached his full potential. Giving him that contract extension before he even did anything in a Sox uniform was a mistake.
