  1. I'm not so sure Danks or Floyd would 'need' to be involved. Danks and Floyd will be getting more and more money each year that passes. I'm pretty sure SD is looking 2-3 years down the road. If thats the case, a deal centered around Hudson and Flowers is a real possibility. How many more years does Bucholz have before he reaches arbitration?
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) Because he makes $12M and isn't that good of a hitter, he'd be tremendously overpaid. Well A-Gon is tremendously underpaid so it would even itself out
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) I think Thome may be the only guy on the FA market who actually would willingly DH. pretty much. . everyone seems to think they are 'stellar' defensively still. If we bring Gonzalez over- PK would be an excellent DH. .
  4. MLB Network seems to think Boston has the edge on the Adrian Gonzalez sweepstakes. . SD's new GM was Theo Epsteins Assistant and knows Boston's farm better than anybody. Does Boston have a deeper farm than us? As far the PK situation goes. . why would we have to trade him if we aqcuire A-Gon? He would simply be our DH and he could play an ocassional 1B- similar to Frank Thomas before he became a full time DH.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) The Tigers would have to be complete f***ing idiots to let us have him. yep. . lets up Jackson a young and up and coming pitcher on the market as well as the team's best all around player. . what the hell?
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 10:16 PM) They never crossed paths. Hudson spent 2008 in rookie ball while Richard played in AA, AAA and the Majors. Clayton spent the entire 2009 season in the majors and he was gone by the time Hudson was recalled in early September. Well that ends that speculation.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) He'd hit 50 here, easy. ^^^^
  8. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) I got this from another board: On the way home today, Harry from ESPN 1000 claimed he had an inside source that stated Clayton Richard called Daniel Hudson today to inform him that he was a key piece in a trade the Padres & Sox were working on, so that the Sox would get Adrian Gonzalez. And I'm pissed that the Bulls got raped on that call. If anything, Miller's finger tips were barely touching the ball. But still there wasn't enough evidence to overturn it. The Bulls should have won that game! Regardless, the Bulls are fun to watch this year. I think 45-48 wins isn't out of the question. As far as Gonzalez goes. . OH HELL YEAH! Get it done Kenny.
  9. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 08:53 PM) Is there any truth to this rumor?? The Padres are shopping him this winter. . With our lack of a DH and with PK's contract ending after 2010, we would be foolish not to pursue this. Are we rumored to go after him? No. . or at least we didn't hear anything, and usually thats a good thing- because if we hear about it- it usually never happens.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Scotty Pods is not a major-league DH. Nothing good can come of that. The only way i would be okay with Pods coming back is if KW makes a signficant splash for a DH.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 09:40 PM) He may at the same time be worth that price and paying that price would also devastate this team. true. but paying that price may also mean that we would likely devestate the AL Central over the next few years. . Risks need to be taken when your going for it all. . .
  12. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) Too much to give up plus he will cost to much money wise. Your going to have to pay Adrian a ton for all the pieces you'd give up. No thank you. The dude hit 40 HR and plays 81 games in the best pitchers park in baseball. He is only 27 years old and his contract isn't up until after the 2011 season. I'd say he is definitley worth the prospects and the potential contract extension.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 06:36 PM) 2 weeks ago I'd have been shocked to hear talk of D2: the mighty danks taking over the OF spot. Then I was shocked when I saw the talk. Now, I wouldn't be all that surprised. I just hope we'd bring in a major bat to DH if we risk D2 in the 9 slot. yea i agree. . i just hope it wouldn't be another one of those Brian Anderson situations where he would be the 'blackhole' of a pretty solid lineup. But i guess a year of him getting MLB experience couldn't hurt- especially when you have a guy like Jared Mitchell progressing in the minors.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 06:28 PM) I like this. It makes me feel like something big is in the works again I was listening to the score and KW mentioned that he views Jordan Danks right now the same way he was looking at Beckham at this time last year. I wouldn't be suprised if Jordan Danks fills up that final outfield spot, while KW spends the rest of the winter patching up the bullpen and bringing in a left handed power hitter (Adrian Gonzalez). . .
  15. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) i meant that it makes sense to get gonzalez bcuz if we dont, when pk leaves after the yr, we wont have anyone in the minors ready to replace him i agree. . Gonzalez just may be KW's #1 offseason target. Plus we haven't heard anything about us getting him. And if we dont hear about it- there may be something to it.
  16. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) exactly, makes tons of sense. esp bcuz we dont really have anyone down in the minor leagues to replace pk...but i dont see us getting him this yr unless we trade pk because i dont think either would want to dh I dont think PK would mind DHing and playing 1B like twice a week. . I could also see PK being dealt this offseason. . He still has decent value. PK to the Dodgers for Manny and cash? Okay now im getting way out of control. . .
  17. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) i wonder what it would cost, realistically,( i dont believe how people say floyd/danks, beckham, hudson, etc all in one deal), to get gonzalez. i think we have what it takes to get him and hes not expensive this yr or next yr. and when he becomes a fa, we'll have more money to spend than we do now. so i guess its about what they want in return Gonzelez makes perfect sense for the Sox in the grand scheme of things. He's 27 years old, is a lefty with tremendous power, high OBP and is due 4.75 million in 2010 and 5.5 million in 2011 before he hits the market. It may cost us Viciedo, Hudson and others but this dude would be a MONSTER at the Cell. KW BETTER be pursuing this. .
  18. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 08:38 PM) Hell no to Matsui. Too old, injury prone and he just won the WSMVP. Way too costly and hes not worth it imo. I dunno. . with his age, i doubt he'll get much more than 7 million/season. Many expect him to sign on with Seattle, but he would fit in our lineup rather nicely. I wonder how KW will fill this spot up I'm guessing it will be via trade. .
  19. I wouldn't oppose a guy like Hideki Matsui being our DH. The dude is pretty clutch and they could play this song when he comes up to bat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6rDWqjnW7w
  20. Agreed. Lets move in a different direction. If anything he should finish his career in Cleveland.
  21. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) Wow didn't expect to see this when I logged on today. Honestly not a big fan of this deal, and I think we can do better. Teahen's really tapered off offensively since his career year in 2006 with OPS's of .763, .715 and .734 over the past 3 seasons. He does have a .261/.325/.514 line at 138AB's in his career at the Cell though. But he's not really an OBP type of guy the Sox need to be adding to their lineup either. He usually K's about 125 times a season and gets about 40 or so walks. So I don't think he's THAT much of an upgrade on Getz, who'd you expect would get better, but maybe the Sox don't think so? The only way this makes sense for me if the Sox go after a Polanco type of second baseman, and use Teahen as a super utility infielder / outfielder possibly, because SS and 3B are set right now with Alexei and Beckham. This move definitley opens up a spot in the infield. Perhaps for a free agent such as Figgins or Polanco. Or maybe KW makes another big trade. . who knows. . As far as doing much better? Perhaps, but Teahen has the tools to have a pretty productive season at the cell. Same goes for Rios. KW is taking chances on guys that have the capability of raking at the Cell. We still need a leadoff hitter and we still need power and I know KW has something up his sleeve. JR and KW are hungry for another title and with this rotation- we have a great opportunity to be a legit contender this season. Could you imagine if that speculated Heymen deal were to go down? Say Jenks and Ramirez are dealt for Ellsbury, Okajima and Bard. All we would have to do then is sign a DH. I LOVE HOTSTOVE season. Can our architecht construct another World Series contender? I KW i trust!
  22. This move leaves us with 1 open position in the infield or the outfield. . Teahen can play 3b as well. This is a very solid move by KW and staff as it doesn't restrict them from making a splash for that quality leadoff man. So all the possibilities are still endless. Crawford, Figgins, Polanco, etc. . . .
  23. The Sox have invested a lot of time in Danksy and Floyd. They are the future of our rotation- lets lock him up! Our starting pitching could be absolutely filthy next year 1-5!
  24. Damon is a smart hitter. I would much rather have him over Pods. But if we are going to upgrade, im sure there are even better names out there on the trade front.
  25. QUOTE (WCSox @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) Not to mention that he'd likely have personality clashes with an intense manager like Ozzie. Plus, he'll be 38 in May. You never know when his bat is going to slow down, especially now that he's off the (alleged) juice. Plus, why trade for Manny when you can have Thome (who actually likes playing in Chicago) for a fraction of the cost? agreed. say the dodgers take 5 million off Manny's contract- that would be $15 million the Sox could disperse elswhere like our bullpen and bring in a more economical DH such as Abreu at around $7-8 million.
