  1. Anytime you miss the playoffs the season has been a failure in my eyes. But in regards to next year- yes the arrow is going up. Beckham has arrived. Rios is an awesome defensive CF (just needs to hit) and Peavy is a true ACE.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) So the Sox should trade AJ, trade Konerko, trade Buerhle and just get back a bunch of prospects. Apparently there are people on this board more interested in minor league baseball than major league baseball. What did Minnesota get back for Santana? Is that what everyone wants? I prefer trying to win than having some decent minor leaguers who will bust in a couple of years. The AL Central blows. The Sox should win it every year for a while. ^^^ Awesome post D. Allen!! I agree. With a couple of smart moves this winter (shore up the pen, a legit leadoff hitter) the Sox should be in position to be atop the AL Central for 2-3 straight seasons.
  3. I think KW will make a few suprising deals this winter, but none of them will involve the starting rotation. Right now the rotation is set where if they make it to the playoffs next year, they could make a serious run.
  4. Im begining to question Phil Rogers as an analyst. The dude is starting to write some bone headed articles over the past 2 seasons.
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) Phil Rogers article suggests that KW made some wrong moves in trading Vazquez and Swisher and was only too quick to dump them and their salaries. Regardless of the return with a couple of prospects-I think Flowers being #1- Vazquez and Swisher could have helped us win this thing. Sisher hit the hokes and drove in the runs and had ahigh on base percentage, but maybe his dugout antics didn't fit well with the team as a whole?I also heard last night on the MLB TV game aalysis with Harold Reynolds, Mitch Williams and the other partner (name?) that Vazquez was not handled right by Ozzie and that Bobbie Cox' demeanor and skills with handling pitchers is what turned Javy around this season to a 15-9 wiiner. Obviosuly many trains of thought here, but something to think about. Hopefully we don't see wholesale dumpig of players because of supposed "attitude issues." Essentially the Sox traded Vazquez for Flowers and with that money free'd up- it gave KW the flexibility to trade for Peavy. Who would you rather have, Peavy or Javy? We all know Javy's inability to pitch in big games- trading him was the right thing to do. As far as Swisher goes, Ozzie and him just didn't get a long and that is essentially the reason KW traded him. He had a down year offensively and he couldn't play the OF the way they wanted him to. Swisher's only value to this team was his defensive ability at 1B. KW wasn't going to spend 7-8 mil/season on a guy to backup PK. Its a shame we couldn't get more in return for Swish but in the long term scheme of things- this deal makes sense. I have been very pleased with KW's deals for the most part in 2009. Granit we missed the playoffs but we had the oppurtunity to see many young players play on a consistent basis. Beckham and Getz both have bright futures, Richard and Poreda pitched well enough for us to net Peavy and we brought over Rios for nothing. This team going into 2010 has the making of a very good team. Who will KW trade this winter? Two guys who can bring a lot back would be Alexei and Jenks. This should be a fun winter!
  6. QUOTE (cornball @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) Depends on the budget for next year. You have basically 70M tied up in MB, JP, GF, Garcia (4/5 of the rotation for 2010), PK, AR, AJP, Thorton, Linebrink, and Rios. With arb for Jenks, CQ, Danks, and Carrasco. If you think the team is going to get a new SS with AR under contract for 1.1 for the next 2 years, this is highly unlikely. AR problems are more mental than physical and he will improve defensively. Hopefully he will put 2 halves together at the plate. They have money to make a splash and would have more if PK or Jenks are moved. The Sox are in great shape heading into next year, with help needed at the corner outfield, DH and pen. The infield and rotation are set. It should be fun to see. Our rotation is set. Our infield could be set- but i could see KW moving Alexei to improve defensively at SS. Our offense is ok, but KW needs to find a left handed power hitter to fill up the middle of the order. If Carlos is healthy enough to move over to RF like most of us anticipate- that leaves an opening in LF. KW seems to get his players via trade- so don't expect a lot of free agent signings this winter. KW could be wheeling and dealing more than we anticipate this winter. Should be a fun winter to see how KW tries to complete this championship puzzle.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) Would you trade Jenks, Retherford and Hudson for Crawford? Would Tampa accept it? We are going for it all in 2010 so yes i would accept that. I'm not so sure the Rays would accept that deal though. The Rays are in a position to get an aweful lot in return for Crawford this winter.
  8. Peavy is a stud. If he's healthy next year, our rotation could be very special.
  9. I've seen my share of 2010 threads recently to go along with many offseason ideas and wishes. Lets make this the official 2010 thread. JOSE REYES- I was thinking about how we could improve defensively and a name that intrigues me is Jose Reyes. The Mets were talking about possibly dealing him , why not give them a call. Reyes would improve our defensive issues at SS and would be our leadoff hitter. He has 1 year left on his contract at 9.5 million and a 2011 option. Could an Alexie Ramirez centered package bring him over? CARL CRAWFORD If he's available go after him hard. I'm not sure what would interest Tampa however. (i think im on year 6 of wanting Crawford, so i doubt it could happen- but you never know. BOBBY ABREU Sign him up. Hopefully he doesn't want more than 8 million/ season. Abreu would be KW's perfect match as far as high OBP, high RBI producer and lefty AB to fill up the middle of the order. Who is on your wishlist?
  10. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) Ugh, Abreu's defense is absolute garbage. He is worse than Dye. I don't want him anyway near this team. And he will cost more than 1 mil... I would love Abreu as our new DH. High OBP, Lefty AB- im pretty sure KW stressed that yesterday during his "State of the White Sox address"
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) Dealing Mark is just a terrible idea and isn't going to happen. ^^^^ If Buerhle is every dealt i seriously might cry. He's the only White Sox player i could have ever said that about.
  12. not to be captain obvious but im sure its Dye and Dotel and a high possibility of Jenks being shipped. He already shipped off Contreras and Thome.
  13. Tampa will likely move Crawford this winter and I could easily see KW going hard after him. We still have pretty good depth in the farm to go after this guy and should come a lot cheaper than Upton because of his contract situation. KW seems to aqcuire his guys via trade and not free agency. With Konerko and AJ off the books after 2010, the Sox should be in a great position to offer Crawford a long term extension during the 2010 season. My perfect 2010 lineup: Crawford LF Beckham 3B Abreu DH Quentin RF Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Ramirez SS Rios CF Getz 2B (This team should lead the majors in SB's)
  14. Either would help our team tremendously. Just wondering what they would want in return. . . I think Crawford would be the most realistic because of his contract issue.
  15. KW said if the team constucted as is won't produce, expect the team to be much different next year. He said he will use his 'imagination' quite a bit. I expect the team to look much different next year. Dye and Dotel will walk and I expect KW to pull off some shocking trades this winter. Guys who most likely will be brought back is our rotation 1-4, Quentin, Beckham and Rios. Everything else is up in the air at this point.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) Strange to say, but we don't need another pitcher. Yeppo!! Peavy, Buerhle, Floyd, Danks and Hudson/Garcia is as good as it comes. KW's to do list should be as follows: 1. Fix the mess that is known as our bullpen. 2. Find a long term solution at the leadoff spot. 3. Continue to upgrade defensively 4. Find a solid bat for the middle of the lineup. (Abreu and his .400 OPB would be nice)
  17. QUOTE (League @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) Predicting a Rios homer. why?
  18. 1-0 Minny leading over Detroit. Geeze. If the Sox played just decent ball we could be about 2.5-3.5 games back right now and in the thick of things.
  19. The Pen needs a complete makeover. How KW will do it, im not sure? Boston seems to have the perfect recipe every year bringing in new arms that can get the job done. KW hopefully will take a few pages out of Theo's notebook. Guys from 2009 that will be back: Thorton and Liney. Nobody will take on Liney's contract and im sure Peavy will have a long talk with KW about how he wants his boy to stay with the team. Thorton is solid once again- he may be a good option as our new closer pending on what KW decides to do with Jenks. That loss vs Seattle really hurt and that really showed me that Jenks doesn't have what he used to have. The time is now to ship him off, bring in some young talented arms or a leadoff hitter.
  20. I'm going to really like Jake!! So far he looks mighty impressive. His curve ball is wicked and his fast ball tails off very nicely. Can't wait for a full season of Peavy next year
  21. I think Alexei and Bobby will be our biggest trading cards this winter. Hopefully KW plays his cards wisely.
  22. shut buerhle and floyd down. let Hudson and Torres get a few cracks out at it before seasons end. give Flowers some ABs.
  23. meh. . at least there is no more false hope. time to play the kids.
  24. its games like these that sum up our season very well. . .
