  1. I think they are going to see how Colon does on that July 24th double header before they decide what to do with Poreda. July 21st vs Tampa will likely be make or break for Richard. If he falters once again, I say there is a real good chance Poreda gets inserted into the rotation.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) Rick Morrissey, there is something wrong with your head Alexei and JOHN Danks for Halladay? Forget that noise Lets see, we have Danks under our control through 2012. Alexie is signed for cheap through 2011. I don't think so Rick. . .
  3. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Lackey's actually quite an interesting case coming into FA this off-season. His ERA is at 4.93 currently, but he's actually pitched a lot better than that, a FIP of 3.98 and he's only had a DER of .664 behind him in his 12 starts so far this season. I think he'll still get Derek Lowe type of money from some team, but I hope the Sox definitely take a look at him if they're after a #2 type of SP. Well it looks like both Lackey and Figgins will indeed hit theOpen Market. The funny thing is, i could see them both landing with the Sox.
  4. With the outragous prices for these guys. I'm almost at the point of saying screw it. Lets keep the farm strong and just add via free agency. We might be better off just buying low on guys like John Lackey or Brandon Webb. Let Poreda keep developing and plug him into our 5th spot next year. Buerhle, Webb/Lackey, Danks, Floyd, Poreda. I'm cool with that- esspecially since the farm would still be in tact. If there was one move i would like KW to make before July 31st, it would be to add an OF. I could see Dye bought out and signed to a new 3 year deal worth about 6 mil/ season. He would likely split DH duties with Quentin next year. So that leaves LF and CF open. Jordan Danks is getting closer but he may benefit for one more season down in the minors. So a DeJesus might be a good pick up as a 1.5 year stop gap.
  5. I wouldn't be suprised if CQ is our DH next year.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) I dont think KW is going to mortgage the farm they have built for this org just for a year and a half of Halladay. That is the Jays office trying to drive the price up since the only teams that are offering anything of interest have been in the AL east. I wouldn't offer Poreda, Richard, Flowers and Viciedo for Halladay. But i would do that deal for Haren. And if I was Arizona's GM it would be something to seriously consider. . In fact that is something i could see KW doing. With all of this attention on the Halladay sweepstakes, I could see him going under the radar and swiping a guy like Haren.
  7. check out him mimicking Carlos Quentin right in front of him: HILARIOUS!!!!
  8. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Thanx CanofCorn, I pretty much feel it is going to really take some team getting fleeced for Ricciardi to pull the trigger. On some Jays boards I have seen fans say get the haul they want and then once Halladay becomes a FA sign him back to Toronto. Wild huh?? That wont happen. Which ever team trades for Halladay is likely going to ink him to an extension shortly after. Its kind of interesting how ESPN and Foxsports are stating the White Sox being in on the Halladay sweepstakes. . I wonder if they have someone on the inside? And if Poreda, Richard, Flowers and Viciedo wont be 'enough' to aqcuire Halladay, i want nothing to with the guy.
  9. QUOTE (nastymasty21 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 07:52 AM) um... where do u plan on playing these people? Beckham is our 3rd baseman = no teahen. Quentin is coming back so coming off an MVP like year, he will be our LF. With Quentin in LF, Pods, who is our 1st half MVP will narurally move to CF. Only way this makes sense is Teahen for either getz or nix. I'm thinking the only way we get Teahen is if Getz is included in a deal for a starting pitcher first.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) I'd much rather have Teahen as he can play a lot more positions and has been a better hitter this year. If we're thinking more down the road, I'd go with DeJesus. KW is always looking down the road. Who will play RF next year? Who will be in CF? I think DeJesus is a solid ballplayer and could easily fill one of those positions. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) When Minnesota's second half schedule looks about as easy as the Bulls' second half schedule, I find that hard to believe. If somehow the Sox could make it out of this tough stretch within reaching distance, I say it will be a 3 team race until the end.
  11. I just heard about 3 analysts predict the Sox to win the division today.. . Should be a pretty cool 2nd half of the season regardless. As far as the Sox and Rios? No way in hell. If KW takes on a mega contract, it would have to be for a starting pitcher. If we are going to add to the offense, why not go after David Dejesus? KC has put Dejesus and Teahen out on the market. His numbers are alittle down this year but he could be a great asset down the stretch. He would have to split time in the OF with Pods, Dye and CQ but im sure Ozzie could find a way to plug him in there.
  12. Ken Rosenthal still thinks of the Sox want Halladay they will have to part with Beckham. The Phillies have said they are not giving up highly touted prospects. The Angels don't have what the Jays want. IMO its between the White Sox, Dodgers and Yankees. If i'm KW I would make 2 offers and if JP rejects them- time to move on.. . 1) Poreda, Richards, 2 mid level prospects for Halladay 2) Ramirez, Poreda, Richards, Fields, Shelby for Halladay and Rolen (with Rolens contract partially payed for)
  13. We talked about this in the Halladay thread and in the buyer/seller thread. Bearsox and I think Ramirez, Poreda, Richard and maybe a Fields+ more would be acceptable only if Toronto includes Rolen in the deal and pay half of his contract for next season. This also being a hope that Halladay signs an extension. There is no way KW involves Beckham in any sort of a deal. And KW wants to move forward with 2 solid righties in the rotation for this year and next, losing Floyd puts him back at square one. If a deal goes down for a pitcher- Poreda is likely on of the centerpieces.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 12:17 AM) An injury-prone Scott Rolen at $11.5 million in his declining thirties is almost never the kind of investment that KW makes...there is really no example of a player coming in like that during his tenure, position player. We didn't want to pay Joe Crede any more than half that and a struggling team (attendance-wise) will commit to a player who has at least a 50% chance of being untradeable or a sunk cost next season, decreasing our flexibility to add some much cheaper parts in the offseason. If we could get, for example Abreu and Orlando Hudson for the same price as ONE injury-prone, Scott Rolen and not have to give up any talent to do so going into 2010, wouldn't that make a lot more sense? And there's no way we can guarantee to Halladay a competitive team and upper-tier payroll in the future like about 8-10 other teams in baseball can do with more credibility in their boast. Scott Rolen's #'s: .320 AVG, .377 OBP, 35 RBI, 6 HR and 26 2B. He has missed 13 out of 90 games, but hasn't spent time on the DL since August of last year. He appears to be 100% healthy and ready to go. And if KW does try to get this guy, im positive its with the attempt of having the Jays take half his salary for next season. . Similar to the Rowand deal. Rolen's expirering contract also fits in pretty well with the other veterans such as Konerko and AJ after next season- Hopefully to make room for Viciedo and Flowers- so if KW plays his cards right he could make this work and still look forward to a youth movement at the same time. The whole 'Getting Younger On The Fly' would still work.
  15. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) ^^^^ I really would be reluctant to trading Alexei, but you gotta do it if we could get Halladay and Rolen back without giving much more than Alexei. Edit: noticed poreda was a part of it too, I would still do it, but it would be pretty hard. giving up Reed and Olivo was pretty hard as well when that deal happened. . when you get another team's ace, your going to lose some young talent. Good thing for us is we actually have enough depth in the farm to afford to lose 2 or 3 assets. If KW could pull a deal off w/o giving up Jordan Danks, Tyler Flowers or Dayan Viciedo than were still in very good shape going forward. Viciedo would essentially replace Rolen in 2011, Danks has the potential of being our every day CF next year and Flowers will likely be our every day C in 2011.
  16. One more thing. If KW gets a deal done for a guy of Halladay's caliber, AND with Quentin coming back on friday tix will sell like hot cakes the rest of the way! Just a thought. . .
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) You make good points, but a couple of things I should have stated. If I were to trade Alexei, Poreda, Richard, and prospects for Halladay, I'd try and get Rolen to come along with him, and at least half of Rolen's remaining contract. However, I still probably wouldn't oppossed to an Alexei, Poreda, and a throw in for Halladay straight up. Second, Halladay won't sign an extension, he's gonna hit FA. However, I'd use all the resources available to me to make sure he stays with the White Sox. If we don't get Rolen along in a deal, Beckham and Nix would man the left side. Considering Nix would likely be the more stable defender at SS, he'd be the easy choice. However, we would have to get another infielder who can play SS and can hit right handed pitchers. Or, we could try and make a trade for Teahan and take the risk with Beckham at SS (if he can the routine plays at SS, that'd be more than adequate. And that has been something Alexei hasn't been great at). Also, I'd defenitely shop Dotel and Linebrink, and trade whichever one brought the most back in a trade. I like where your heads at. If you could convince Halladay that we will compete during the next 3 seasons with a few signings as well as devloping our young talent, i think he would stay. He's a classy guy and just wants to win. If KW can sell Dotel or Linebrink, and with the subtractions of Contreras, Colon, Dye and Thome away from our payroll- All that money can be used for an extension toward Halladay and should be just enough to afford Rolen for a year and a half. Ramirez, Poreda, Richard, Fields and a couple of prospects (hopefully not Danks or Flowers) for Halladay and Rolen and you have yourself a deal. A rotation of Buerhle, Halladay, Danks, Floyd and an improved Contreras the rest of the way makes us the best rotation 1-5 in baseball IMO. Thats a rotation that could go deep in the postseason. If you add Rolen's bat to an already solid lineup and CQ comes back as well, the Sox are the team to watch in the 2nd half. I've always been a HUGE fan of Rolen and wouldn't object to pay him 11.5 mil next season. Just imagine this lineup Sox fans: Pods CF Rolen 3B Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Quentin LF Pierzynski C Beckham SS Getz 2B Your telling me that doesn't make you gitty?
  18. Thats the only way i make a deal for Halladay is if Rolen can come along with it. Right now we have the bullpen to compete and that doesn't come along very often in todays game. Trading away Ramirez, Poreda, and a couple other prospects for a 1.5 year of Halladay may be worth it if TCQ can come back. You would move Beckham to SS, Getz is playing strong in 2b and we would still be in great position to get younger after 2010 when Rolen, AJ and PK are all off the books clearing room for Viciedo to play 3b and maybe even FLowers to play C if he isn't included into a deal headed to Toronto. Losing Ramirez hurts, but if you could get Halladay to sign an extension, the Sox would still be in outstanding shape for the next 3-4 years starting pitching wise.
  19. QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) We got Halladay and with Q back we win this division. /bold prediciton. If 1 of 2 happens i say they still win the division.
  20. This looks to be the making of an ugly game. I'm just suprised we won 1 game there in the nightmare dome.
  21. Per Phil Rogers Gavin Floyd and Alexie Ramirez+ probably Flowers for Doc Halladay and Vernon Wells at half price. .. ??? Losing Floyd would hurt, he is young cheap and talented, i guess adding Wells would spell our CF issue for the next 5 seasons but then who would play 3B? I would do this deal if: A) Toronto includes Rolen instread of Wells. B) Halladay immediately signs an extension say 14-15 mill for for 3 seasons till 2012. Then the Sox could move Beckham to SS and insert Poreda into the rotation. This deal would be nice because you still keep Beckham and Poreda, which still gives the Sox a good blend of youth and veterans. Talk about a scary lineup: Pods CF Beckham SS Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Rolen 3B Quentin LF Pierzynski C Getz 2B Buerhle, Halladay, Danks, Contreras, Poreda
  22. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) If we're still down or tied in the ninth, who pitches? Do we trust Linebrink? I'm guessing Bobby if were tied. If were still down- we are going to see Tony Pena make his debut.
  23. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) I'd trade Alexei for 3+ years of Peavy, but I don't see the point in giving him up for 1.5 years of Halladay. IMO, Alexei's value is just under Beckham's. The deal imediately becomes worth it if Halladay signs an entension right away.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) Yeah, I'm sure they'd pull the trigger. Please tell me you don't want to trade Alexie in such a package?? That would be a horrible trade. Alexie is a great streaky player and would definitley be missed if gets traded ever. But in order to get something of great value, you have to give something of great value. Kind of like the Freddy Garcia deal. We gave up Olivo, he was a guy we were all in love with ( a young and up and coming star), but we recieved Garcia- he signed an extension and we won a title. If we could get Halladay and sign him to an extension, i'd say we won that deal. Now if you also bring in Rolen (a guy who is currently .330 and is rocking a 25 game hit streak) were set to contend this year and next. You lose Flowers, a guy we got for Vazquez and you also lose Poreda (this guy is the real deal and the Jays will love him). But IMO this would be a great deal for both teams. The Sox still have decent depth in the farm and have a 1.5 year oppurtunity (at least) to win a title with Doc Halladay in thier rotation.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Wait for announcements after this game. There's no way Richard is staying in the rotation when we start the 2nd half. Of course, starting a struggling pitcher on 3 days rest who doesn't have the best stamina to start with is pretty foolish. If Poreda continues to pitch well today. I could see them announcing AP will start after the ASB while CR will head back into the pen.
