QUOTE (G&T @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) High school sucks. Your best years are ahead. high school doesn't suck. . well teaching high school is fun at least. . If we get Peavy, im going to spend the first half of class discussing Peavy

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) yup, he thinks the option will do it Having Linebrink on this team is huge. Linebrink and Peavy spoke on the phone last night and Linebrink was raving about how great playing in Chicago is and how great of a manager Ozzie is. Peter Gammons seems pretty optimistic about this. Is this 2004 all over again? Remember how Kenny shocked us all by swooping in under the radar and snagging Freddy Garcia? Buerhle, Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Colon- You can put it on the boooooard Yes! Just say YES JAKEY!
-
This would rock the foundation of the White Sox organization. . and likely shock the sports world, especially with all that Peavy to Cubs talk this past winter. Its a much better option than going after Lackey or Bedard this summer for a similar high price. . . Does someone have a link to this rumor? And with all the salaries coming off the books at season's end the Sox would still have a decent amount of cash to aqcuire 1 solid offensive player.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 20, 2009 -> 08:17 AM) You don't trade 3 players for 1 prospect, and you certainly don't look to deal Getz at the current moment. What you are suggesting is merely an XBox trade. Not really an XBox trade. . . an XBox trade would be DJ Carasco for Johan Santana. Fernando Martinez would most definitley be worth 1 season of Dye, Dotel and rookie Getz. . In fact that would be a steal. .
-
I would like to think that Dye would be more attractive than Konerko for the Mets in a sense where Dye would be a free agent after this seasons (pending the BO option), so when Delgado returns- he could play some OF as well. Not to mention they wouldn't be in a situation next year of having both Delgado and Konerko under contract. Fernando Martinez is the guy i want from New York. I would sweetn up the pot by offering Dye, Getz and Dotel. These 3 guys would immediatley make New York a contender and the Mets would get their new 2B. The Castillo experiement is going to end sooner or later. If thats not enough for New York throw in another piece. For the Sox, they would have their CF of the future and it would make room for future phenom Gordon Beckham to come on up and play 2B.. . . KW needs to explore all avenues to try and aqcuire Fernando Martinez.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Would love to hear your ideas about where we're going to get two front-line starters between now and the start of the 2010 season? Contreras and Colon will be gone...Danks is looking (for now) like his late 2007 version before they shut him down and Floyd is abysmal. Let's say Floyd becomes a serviceable 5 starter and Danks a 3 starter and Buehrle doesn't ever show signs of wear and tear or go down with injury for the first time in his career...we still have to find a 1-2 starter and a 4. Richard or Poreda might be the 4. Might. Kenny needs to make another investment in a starting pitcher. I would love Lackey or Bedard to fill that #2 slot via free agency. Buerhle, Lackey, Danks, Richard, Floyd would definitley work. Poreda could definitley come in and be a solid setup man next year, especially if Jenks is traded. -

Blow it up! I'm willing to trade Jenks if it means getting that CF we desperatley need. I would let Fields and Getz play out the season to see if they can turn it around. Guys you must keep from the 05 season: Buerhle and AJ. Thats it. We could probably get something decent for Pauly and Dye. Im sure some team would go after Thome for a pinch hitter/DH for a playoff push. Obviously we wont get much for him, but anything would be a bonus. Dotel could probably net a decent pitching prospect. Guys to see next year: Beckham and Poreda- but i just dont see the Sox calling them up this year. Free agents to go after: Carl Crawford -The Sox should have a good amount of money to spend on free agents this winter and if TB doesn't give Carl that Club option for 10 million, he could be a free agent, he could play LF while Quentin could move over to RF. Chone Figgins- I think Fields will get every oppurtunity to succeed, but i just see him being the next Brian Anderson of our organization. John Lackey-- We totally need another starting pitcher, and it seems like the Angels have dropped the ball on re-signing this guy. My predictions: 1) Jenks will be traded for our future CF. 2) Dye will be traded for pitching prospects 3) Thome will be traded for a couple cheap prospects 4) Dotel will be traded for a decent prospect Blow it up Kenny. . . -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 16, 2009 -> 08:46 AM) We could kinda use a win right about now. what? our 4-9 record in may doesnt impress you? -
Im at step 2 and 5 as well. Step 2- Only because of the way that our young players have started the season. Floyd and Danks have been relatively dissappointing. They are suppose to be the building blocks of rotation for many years to come. Floyd just hasn't caught on yet this season and Danks has been very inconsistent- ranging from very good- to very bad. Alexie Ramirez has been a HUGE dissapointment. What happened to the wirery hitting machine? The pitchers in the league have adjusted to him and he clearly hasn't figured it out. Even Carlos Quentin has been alittle dissappointing. Sure he has 8 homeruns but he has gone a couple of weeks without hitting one and his average is down there compared to last year. These 4 guys really need to step it up if the Sox want any chance in playing in meaningful games in september Step 5- acceptance. I accept the fact that the Sox are going younger and we might take alittle step back this year just to see what we have as far as future building blocks. So far i love Chris Getz, i think he's going to be our 2b for a very long time! Josh Fields still needs to win me over but that is what this year is about- finding out what we have. Guys like Beckham and Poreda will likely be on the team next year, and there double-a stats are very impressive. I accepted the fact that Thome, Contreras and Dye will likely leave this year (unless Dye accepts a paycut to remain as our DH). I accepted the fact that Konerko and AJ will likely be gone after 2010. The transistion of this team is obvious, it will be interesting to see if KW can find a CF this year via a trade or if he can sign a guy this offseason. Can we still the division- of course we can. Our new core simply has to step it up and our offense neeeds to get it going sooner or later or we will be in for a long long summer of white sox baseball ---- *See 2007 Chicago White Sox for a reference to a long summer.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ May 14, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) I'd like to see Dye sticking around for a few more seasons as DH. I'm starting to like the transition that is being set up here. Obviously Fields is a (current and perhaps temporary) disappointment, and there are, and always will be, questions on the back of the rotation, but overall a rebuilding may be at hand without enduring a 90 loss season. I could see a buyout and a contract restructure. Like 3 years for 16 million. Dye as a DH is a great idea. It would replace Thome and KW could offer a deal to Bay or Crawford this offseason.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) In this case that won't be the case since most of the contracts that the SOx will be moving will be ending at the end of the year so it shouldn't be a big deal, imo. The Sox won't be getting any superstar #1 prospects in return though or at least I don't believe they will. Good post. There almost better off just letting Dye, Thome and Contreras walk at the end of the year and just use the type a or b compensation when they leave via free agency.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 9, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) Also, remember, if we do try and pursue Byrd or Pedro, chances are they aren't ready yet. I would much rather take our chances with Richard or Poreda over some more oldies. Broadway is not a major league starter.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Contreras will keep his starting spot come Friday night, and won't be skipped. thats another loss added to our record

In spring we had all this excitement for our Cuban bunch. And this is what we are seeing: Alexie Ramirez: .214 Avg with an OBP of .264. Jose Contreras: 0-4 with an ERA of 8.31. Dayan Vicedo is hitting .220 with an OBP of .229. in Double A Birmingham. Its time to start thinking about sending Alexie down and have him work on hitting a damn off speed pitch. Jose shouldn't have even started the season with the major league roster. Vicedo i am least worried about because he is so young and has pleanty of room to grow. I'm starting the "BRING UP Beckham-Poreda combo platter" Petition. Let me know if you want in! Gordon Beckham: .293 with an OBP of .381. He has 15 extra base hits and 11 RBI in 92 ABs. Aaron Poreda: Coming off a 5 inning No hitter has an ERA of 1.92 with 28 K's in just 27.1 innings. This guy is getting better and better. I would much rather him take some bumps up in the majors rather than watch another disastrous performance by Contreras.

Watching Alexie bat this season has been putrid. . Our pitching has been pretty bad. . The Royals have the best all around team in the central i hate to say. . .

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) We'd have to make up an injury for the guy, so he can "rehab" in Charlotte, but i'm all for calling up Poreda to see what he can bring to the table/ Poreda's last start: 11 K's in 7 scoreless innings I know its only one start but you know it has to be on Ozzie and KW's mind...... -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) So is he OK? I am assuming yes or we'd be freaking out. I guess no news is good news. They were pretty quite about him last year though, so who knows?

Colon will be fine. Send Contreras down for about 2-3 starts to let him get back into form. Bring up Poreda for those 2-3 starts to get his feet wet. Pretty much just repeat the El-Duque/ McCarthy '05 situation. -

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) Its been hard to watch so far, but to be fair Baltimore has a pretty good offense and he was doing fairly well till blowing up at the end. Im willing to give the Count 3-4 more starts before i start jumping off the cliff. I'd like to see Contreras get those starts down in triple-a. He obviously needs more time to work out his kinks.... I'd like to see one of these guys up here getting some MLB experience: Charlotte (AAA) John Van Benchoten (1-1, 2.65 ERA, 17 IP, 13 SO) Wes Whisler (1-1, 2.20 ERA, 16.1 IP, 7 SO) Birmingham (AA) Kyle McCulloch (2-1, 2.37 ERA, 19 IP, 9 SO) Aaron Poreda (0-2, 3.00 ERA, 9 IP, 6 SO)
