  1. I know Pods isn't the same guy... but if he comes up, i hope im there when they play this song when they announce him to the plate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEOJm9UIwnk My brothers and I got pumped when Pods came up to this song...... lame i know, but great memores!
  2. KW really needs to address the CF situation sooner or later. I love BA and hope he gets a majority of the playing time, unfortanately he cant hit consistently. . . We need a long term solution out there. . I would even consider trading some of our highly touted prospects for Mr. 'untouchable' Mets prospect Fernando Martinez.. I'm sure they would ask for the moon. . but its worth a call.. .
  3. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) 4-6 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. The RBI came in the bottom of the 11th to win the game. Nice debut, eh? we could've used his bat today....
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) I was listening to The Score about an hour ago and I swear I heard Zack say he ran into Plaxico while at the Final 4 and apparently Cutler has contacted him about coming to play with him in Chicago. Just thought I would pass that along. I can see this happening.....
  5. I wonder if that Sox lineup they have posted on there will be our opening day lineup? Every year our park looks better and better!! Thank you US Cellular!
  6. haha i totally got rick rolled!! DAMN YOU and April fools!
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) Per MLBTradeRumors, the Braves are in fact looking to deal Josh Anderson and the Sox are named as a possible destination. He shouldn't cost anything all that significant (no top prospects) and would be a much better platoon option than Wise, if it is true that we are looking at a Brian Anderson/Wise platoon. I would LOVE to give Josh Anderson a shot here. He stole over 40 bases in the past 5 minor league seasons. And he hit for an average of .294 in 40 games with the big league team last year. He is 26 years old, and the Braves seem to be leaning toward Schafer as their every day CF. So far this spring, JA is hitting .286 with 2 HR, a triple and 7 RBI. He is 2-2 in SBs. His OBP is only .298 so he would like be at the bottom of the order if KW looks into a deal like this. I'd be cool with an Anderson duo platoon.. . Its much better than having Wise or Owens out there.
  8. Is it me or does BA look faster this year? Maybe i'm just noticing this because we still have a lot of slowski's? BA is seriously our best option.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) I think the only role Richard can have SOME success in is as a lefty long man and spot starter. If he is ever a full time starter, he'll get rocked. Right now I view him as more of a stop gap than a part of the future. I think Richard will be the '6th man'/ long reliever. I agree with that. He kind of reminds me of Cotts when he first came up with us. We tried him out as a starter in '03, didn't work so Ozzie put him in the pen for '04 and in '05 he turned into a hell of a setup man. I think Richards has what it takes to eventually develop into a lefty setup man. Out of all of the options, Richard has been the most consistent this spring. Honestly, I am not seeing a whole heck of a lot out of Marquez to be excited about. I'm actually more impressed with Broadway than Marquez. You figure it will be: 1. Buerhle 2. Floyd 3. Danks 4. Contreras 4b. Marquez 5. Colon 5b. Richard
  10. Cabrera is a career .268 hitter. He is only 24 years old and would be a solid bottom of the order type hitter. I would like him to start 100 games out in CF and BA to start the other 62 games. What would the Yankees want in return?
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) Words would not describe my anger if we got Juan Pierre and called that a solution. i highly doubt that will happen. i dont think there will be a significant trade anytime soon.
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) We fortunately have some flexibility to deal with this. Obviously Alexei has CF experience. However, there's always the possibility of Getz being shifted to 3b. Or Beckham. I think the time's going to come when it's Fields and Viciedo in the LF & DH slots, but obviously it's all in the future. I think Viciedo will eventually be our everday LF. If Dye comes back next year, it will be via our new DH. I think there is a possibility that Ramirez could play CF next year if Beckham tears it up down in triple A. A lot of that depends on how BA plays in CF this year. We could easily see this next year: Getz 2B Ramirez CF Quentin RF Dye DH (I wouldn't be suprised if the Sox picked up Abreu instead for cheaper) Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Beckham SS Fields 3B Viciedo LF Rotation: Buerhle, Floyd, Danks, Marquez, Poreda We will slowly get younger while staying competitive at the same time.... For the first time in awhile i am damn excited about this teams future.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) Hopefully... 1. Getz, 2B (he's gonna have to be a full time starter, vs. lefty and righty. I'll be pissed if we see Ozzie do a dumbass thing and bat BA or Fields leadoff vs. lefties) 2. Ramirez, SS (Ozzie better not make us go through another year with Pierzynski in the 2 hole) 3. Quentin, LF 4. Dye, RF 5. Thome, DH 6. Konerko, 1B 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Fields, 3B 9. Anderson, CF I'm not expecting much out of Getz his rookie year, but I know he's a hell of a lot better than either Wise or Owens. ^^^^ Im guessing its going to be exactly that. Ozzie mentioned that he would occasionally hit Anderson or Fields leadoff as well. That kinda tells us all that Anderson will be our starting CF which im perfectly okay with. Our defense up the middle will be strong with Ramirez/Getz and Anderson patrolling CF. Our lineup is still pretty slow in the middle but in the AL you pretty much have that with most teams. Lets get the season started!
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) Reading the title of the thread, I thought someone was giving us a personal medical update. lol twice! one at your statement and one at your avatar. thats hilarious. i love Biden's extensions.
  15. So where are we at with Colon and Contreras? White Sox.com has Contreras inserted as the 4th starter and Colon 6th. I'm thinking Colon will start the year down in the farm to build up his arm strength. With Marquez injury, its looking more and more like Richard will be our 5th starter until Colon is ready. I like the fact that we can plug in Richard or Marquez all season long and hopefully soon enough Poreda will make his debut.
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) I'll believe it when I see it. Also, is the beginning of the season a week later then it usually is? Its probably going to be: Buerhle, Floyd, Danks, Colon, Marquez Contreras will start on the 15 day then do a triple a rehab assignment. Richard will be the long man out of the pen. Poreda will start the season as a starter down in triple a. which is a good idea- he will defininitely be in our rotation next year when Contreras leaves.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) I agree. He is a better option than Wise and Owens and could make a nice platoon with BA. He raked with the Cubs last year. I wouldn't mind him platooning with BA, but the dude thought he was 'too cool' to play for the White Sox last year. I would rather look elsewhere. Until then i would like to see a Wise/Anderson platoon.
  18. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 06:14 AM) Yes there are several good reasons. 1. Beckham is not a natural 2B and should be given every chance to stay at SS as he'll have the most value for us at that position. 2. Getz has worked his way through the minors and has succeeded at every level. 3. Getz is older and has more experience than Beckham 4. Getz would be a more natural lead off hitter than Beckham as he has above average speed and has a great eye at the plate. He actually averaged more BB's than K's in his minor league career and we need a good OBP guy at the top of the order. 5. Getz has already played a bit for us in the majors. That plus his minor league experience makes him more of a known quantity than a guy who has played 30 games for us in our organization so far. There's five reasons for you and I could probably come up with more if you want. Don't confuse tools/talent with readiness. Beckham has had a great spring training for us. BFD, lots of guys murder the ball in ST, lets see what he does in AA for a couple of months before anointing him the new 2B messiah. It's a long season and the cream always rises to the top. If he's supposed to be in the bigs, they'll find a spot for him. 1. I agree with that as I can see the Sox sending Beckham down to start the year to get some 2b experience. 4. I disagree with that. Beckham is a much better hitter than Getz and therefor would be a better leadoff hitter. The pressure will be on Getz to maintain his job in the majors. Beckham is already knocking on the door. I'm guessing Getz will have two months to prove himself. If Getz does prove himself and starts the season off strong- better for us. Once Beckham is ready- we could trade Getz for value... were still looking for a CF Kenny!
  19. I'm on the Anderson bandwagon. His defene alone should beat out Owens and Wise. I thought Anderson did an awesome job accepting his role last year- he never b****ed or moaned about it at all. And it won't be like 2006 where he had all the pressure in the world to replace the legend of Aaron Rowand and to help the White Sox repeat as world champs. As a 9th hole hitter, i'll accept his ~.250 average.
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) Agreed on Anderson. I think what he lacks at the plate is made up for on defense. His brain cramps aside, a lot of would be singles/doubles are outs with Anderson out there, while they aren't with the alternatives. Also, who knows, maybe Anderson will catch lightning in a bottle and find his swing...finally. I would love the Alexie CF, Beckham SS, Getz 2B scenario but unfortanatley that wont happen. They have had it set in stone that Alexie was going to be our everyday SS since the middle of last season. But as some of you guys have mentioned, at least Anderson can play stellar defense while Owens and Wise are nothing more than a late inning pinch runner at best. Alexie at the #2 spot may be a a solid idea... I just really hope Owens doesnt make the team because of our lack of a sterotypical leadoff hitter. Unfortantely that is probably going to happen.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) Pierzynski put up a .307 OBP in the 2 hole last year. That's horrible. And I still don't know what makes Alexei a better "all around" player than Quentin. It seemed like we started winning when Ozzie put AJ in the 2 hole.... A .307 OBP isn't impressive at all, but it was the little things that helped, like getting the man over, taking pitches etc.... I'm sure there are #s to refute those things, but sometimes its more than #s to change a lineups production and outlook. Alexie and Quentin are our best players but i think Alexie has more tools than CQ. Speed, defense, power etc... Quentin is pure offense! Not that he's a bad defender. I guess you can say they are pretty much equally important to our team.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) I'm really surprised at the lack of pushback on me putting a rookie in the leadoff position for this team. im alllll for it!! In fact the deeper we get into spring training, the more i am realizing Owens is not the solution to our leadoff problems nor our CF hole. Anderson is our best defensive outfielder and as our 9th hole hitter- i think he could at least hit .255 with about 20 homeruns in a full season of at bats. Beckham would be a great leadoff hitter... he can hit the hell out of the ball and has above average speed... Why not let Beckham learn from guys like Thome and Dye about hitting consistently in the league. This is likely their last year with us and a guy like Beckham could really benefit from guys like that. So yeah Rock, i am with you! I want Beckham as our starting 2nd basement/ leadoff hitter in 2009!! 1. Beckham 2B (has more tools than Getz and Nix, with his talent i say we should just throw him right into the fire) 2. Pierzynski C (did a hell of a job as our #2 hitter last year) 3. Quentin LF (another MVP type season? lets hope the "Hulk Hogan" of baseball returns to form) 4. Dye RF (JD had a very solid season last year, i want a repeat performance) 5. Thome DH (Can he finish his career off strong? If anything i bet his OBP will be stellar again) 6. Ramirez SS (Can our best overall player get even better??) 7. Konerko 1B (I think this is the year PK rejuvinates his career...) 8. Fields 3B (He can hit the ball out of the park, but can he Fields? No pun intended.) 9. Anderson CF (Starter to minors, to bench player etc.... this guy has followed the same path as Rowand before he eventually came out. I think if given the chance, BA will have a productive season.)
  23. Hey Cubano... Maybe you have something here... Ozzie on Beckham from whitesox.com
  24. QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) I would not be so sure. The way I am seeing things with my crystal ball I see Gordon making the team with zero games played at 2B before ST. Beckham won't break out of spring training with the major league team. Getz or Nix will be our everyday 2b, at least to start the season. If Beckham tears it up down in the minors and Getz or Nix don't make much of an impact, we could very well see Beckham this year. If anything, you will see him for sure in 2010. My 2010 White Sox look like this (in no particular batting order): C- AJ 1B- Konerko 2B- Beckham SS- Ramirez 3B- Fields LF- Viciedo CF- ??? Alot will depend on how Anderson or Owens does this year. RF- Quentin DH- ??? Re-sign Thome for cheap? Other free agent options include Vlad Guerrero & Bobby Abreu
