  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) Well, Colon basically walked out on the Red Sox and threw a hissy fit because they wanted him to go to the pen and be a spot starter. He's supposedly WAY overweight...and he was notorious for only exerting himself when the White Sox offense gave him an opprtunity to get the "W." Maybe his desperation to get back into baseball will end up in a more "team-oriented" attitude than he exhibited last time. Let's hope. Among Colon, Garcia and Contreras, hopefully they can combine to give us ONE full season of starting out of the 4th spot. According to TheScore, Colon is in Chicago right now. Freddy is going to pick in the next few days between a few teams: White Sox, Mets, Yankees and Rangers. I predict Colon signs here. Freddy signs with the Mets.
  2. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) I like Dye. The team would be better with Abreu plus whatever we get for Dye. If you could get Figgins for Dye. Or even an unproven pitching prospect like Bailey AND sign Abreu i'd say it would be a very smart move by KW. How much is Figgins going to make in 2009? And is that the last year of his current contract?
  3. I dont know whats going to happen... First it was Brian Roberts then it was Michael Young, and now its Chone Figgins.... Will the real Sox leadoff hitter please stand up?
  4. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) Rosenthal reports Michael Young has now requested a trade. Here's the interesting part of the article: KW would be foolish not to at least look into this. We could still aqcuire Young and be 'Young' at the same time (no pun intended). You figure you have Thome and Contreras off the books next year and you could still potentially move Dye this offseason for a young starter or even a young outfielder. I remember a few years back KW said he wouldn't aqcuire a certain guy and then aqcuired him later on in that same offseason (AJ Pierzynski).
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) I don't think we should plan on Contreras coming back anytime soon, if ever. At his age, that injury potentially ended his career, IMO. Yep Contreras is all but done. I think we all agree that we want Kenny to get one experienced starter. Is Freddy Garcia the answer? With all of his arm troubles the past few years, i would like to say not. Now is he a risk worth taking a look at? Sure. For Kenny, signing Freddy is a win-win situation. If Freddy cant cut it anymore, or his arm is giving him too many problems, you have Poreda to come up. (A similar El-duque-BMac situation). When El-duque needed some time off- BMac was there waiting. If Kenny goes out and gets a guy like Garland, than that pretty much blocks an oppurtunity for one of our young guys to come up during the season. Im pretty possitive KW is certain Marquez is starting for us in 2009. And KW believes Marquez can post similar numbers as Garland at a much cheaper cost. If Garcia somehow stays healthy, and puts up decent #s 10 wins- 4.5-5 ERA, for a fifth starter- thats better than most in all of baseball and Kenny looks pretty good. I'm guessing a guy like Freddy Garcia or Pedro Martinez is the type of move KW makes to fill that 5th starting spot... But then again im just speculating here.
  6. I think its safe to say we are not getting Brian Roberts.... So we can stop talking about it now. It was nice to have something to talk about for a few days but KW just may be finished dealing after all. I hope im wrong but i really dont expect any other major moves.
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) I still think Jon Garland would be the perfect pick up for this team but maybe that's just me. i agree completely. why 'hope' a guy like Pedro has a comeback player of the year type season when you pretty much what your going to get from Garland- a solid 4th starter who eats a lot of innings.. something our rotation desperately needs. Sheets, although a better pitcher, will probably make double of what Garland will make. Not to mention will likely spend his typical 15-30 days on the DL. Pedro is an interesting name and as a 5th starter he can be effective, but i wouldnt expect more than 10 wins out of the guy. I would love if KW signed Garland at 3 years 21 million with incentives. Signed Pedro to a 1 year deal with a club option for a 2nd year. Buerhle, Floyd, Danks, Garland, Pedro/Poreda/Richard/Marquez/Contreras. Doesnt hurt to have SP depth!
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) Trade Dye to Cin for Bailey, send Bailey to Bal for Roberts, then. The O's want an MLB experienced starter who has show flashes of success. If we aqcuired Bailey- he would be replacing Floyds spot in the rotation. If we aqcuire Roberts- it would be after he signed an extension with us (See Freddy Garcia trade of 2004). This isn't like the Garland for Cabrera swap as both of those players were on the last year of their contracts. Floyd is under contract for the next 2 seasons at $400 K/season and is arbitration eligiable until 2013. Thats 5 more seasons....
  9. Im guessing if this Roberts deal talks is true than the Dye for Bailey deal HAS to be alive. Because if Floyd leaves, we have a rotation of: Buerhle, Danks, Marquez, Broadway, Richard/Poreda and that my friends is horrendous!
  10. Orioles MLB website. (must be legit) I love Brian Roberts. He makes our lineup that much stronger. But damn am i worried about our starting pitching if this deal goes down... i hope KW has 1 or 2 moves left in him to add depth to our rotation.
  11. No way! We already have 2 question marks at 4-5. KW must really have confidence in Marquez for this to be the case....
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Unless we are packaging these 2Bs up for a big trade package, I agree. Thats a possibility. I think 2b is the clubs biggest asset as far as depth wise with Getz, Lillybridge, Nix and Beckham.
  13. QUOTE (scenario @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 11:48 PM) Not sure I'm following you on that one. The 2007 starting lineup had no youth in it. Pods Erstad Thome Konerko Dye Crede Iguchi AJ Uribe And the rotation had only one young player... Danks. All i was trying to say was there were only a few moves then just like we are seeing this offseason... And in 2009- the opening day roster will have more new starters than in that season. For the first time Getz, Fields and Owens will be starters. That season it was just Erstad. (haha how pathetic was Erstad for us?)
  14. Are you guys getting that similar feeling like it was the offseason prior to the 2007 season. KW didn't make a lot of moves, just kind of tweeked the team. We all know how that season turned out... I guess the only difference between that season and this season is that KW is letting more of the youth play. In 2007 the only player given a chance to perform was Danks. This year its going to be Getz, Fields and Owens. Hopefully at least one of those players pans out this year.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) Sure, why the hell not? This offseason couldn't possibly suck any worse than it already has, so this can't hurt. Gooch is not coming back here. ANd yes it has been extremely boring. .
  16. A World Series title back to the South Side in 2009!
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) So besides Owens, who is left as a potential leadoff hitting Centerfield target for the White Sox? Kenny said the next thing he would do was focus on the outfield. So far it has been very quite... Im guessing he will continue to be patient, see where the market is in a week or two and then pull a trigger or two. He wants to maximize what he gets in return for Dye or Konerko. With most teams taking shape heading into the new year- KW can zone into teams with specific needs. For instance, the Angels are seeking a 1B. The Giants are seeking veteran hitters, and with the aquisition of Randy Johnson, Jonathan Sanchez is likely available. The Reds are aslo looking for some offensive power... I am more than possitive KW is looking at all the possibile returns from some of those teams im sure if he can find a leadoff hitter from one of those teams within there minor league systems he is doing that... Just wait a few more weeks, than the market will be that much clearer and KW shall STRIKE!
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) Hmm Derick Lowe becomes a lot more interesting at say $10 to $12 million per season, versus $18. I doubt we are players, but one can dream I suppose. with the way the market is falling (and about time) Garland may be had for 7-8 mill/ season. Those seem like Soxxy #s to me. Especially if they trade one of Dye of Konerko.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) since when has PK's trade value sky rocketed? Last time I checked he was a slow 1B coming off 2 bad years with a large contract and a no-trade-clause by all means it didn't sky rocket but he did finish the season off strong.... We would definitley get much more for Dye. The whole Weaver thing is pure speculation and will likely never happen. just like most of the speculation done on here... but without speculation it can be pretty boring this time of year.
  20. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) I won't deny that a Bailey/Figgins return would be amazing. Figgins is a FA after '09, correct? Is he a Type A or B FA? If he is, that would make the return even sweeter. 6 years of Bailey/1 year of Figgins/'10 draft pick if Figgins walks/the $5-6 you mentioned for getting rid of Dye. yea if we do get Figgins, it would likely be for 1 year and yes he would be a Type B free agent i believe.
  21. I predict the Rays will win the AL East once again.... as Upton said "We are ballers with a budget..."
  22. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) So, the returns you could see happening are, if Dye is traded, Dye for Figgins, and if Konerko is traded, Konerko for Morales+? Well this whole thing is speculation to begin with. If Dye is dealt in a 3-way type deal involving LA and Cincy- Sox get Figgins and Bailey- Angels get Votto- Reds get Dye. If Konerko gets dealt- it would likely be for a starting pitcher. Weaver would be a faboulous start, but I can see the Sox adding pieces to that trade like Richard or Broadway to bring back their young 1B Morales. Currently Dye holds the most value so a Figgins and Bailey combo would an excellent return. That would free about 5-6 million to use on a backup catcher also.
  23. I like Figgins in LF if he's aqcuired. Im guessing that would happen if Dye is dealt and not Konerko. I like an OF of Figgins, Anderson, and CQ
  24. wow. has the yankee payroll hit 300 mill/season yet?
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) You really think that KW would trade Marquez after scouting him in person and acquiring him in trade? I think that's unlikely. To get a guy like Weaver maybe... I doubt the Angels would want to give him up for an 12 million aging 1b and recieve no pitching in return. If not Marquez, than a guy like Broadway for sure....
