  1. If you can get Willy T. for Lance Broadway or Boone Logan, you make the deal! I have always been a fan of a speedy 9-1-2 lineup. Meaning Willy Tavarez can start the year at the 9 spot and if he shows he is capable of having a much higher OBP, than move him up! Meanwhile, after Dye gets traded, you move CQ to RF. Then you make a strong push for DeJesus... And with all the money left over from trading Dye and Vazquez, you go ahead and sign Furcal and shock the baseball world!
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) No it isn't. I'm not going to get in a Vazquez debate you with, because it's beyond pointless, but pitchers that have started 32+ games nine years in a row aren't that easy to find. Striking out 190+ in 6 of those years makes it more impressive. He has value in this market, and if traded, should bring back something of worth. And he will bring back something of worth. There are pleanty of NL teams that would love Javy in there rotation. The Braves are craving for 2 top of the line pitchers and they have a good amount of attractive prospects and young talent to offer. The Mets are also craving another SP, the Brewers are going to be in need for a SP after losing Sheets and CC, the Reds seem to be closer to contend.... These teams and more would LOVE to have Javy's services..... Note to those teams: We are in need of a young speedy middle inf & cf who can hit for decent OBP and play solid defense!
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 04:28 PM) The Angels are going to be set up for awhile if they sign CC. Him, Lackey, Santana, Saunders and Weaver, that is the best 1-5 rotation in baseball. They get an Ace with CC and then have three #2s with Lackey, Santana and Saunders. And Weaver is going to continue to get better. Plus, they always have a solid farm system. It doesnt get much better than that. Perhaps a Sabathia, Buerhle, Danks, Floyd, Poreda would be? Okay i just woke up from my dream
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 06:33 AM) Firesales are auctioning off players like Lofton, Durham, Howry, etc. We're hardly doing that, unless you consider when we traded Freddy Garcia and Brandon McCarthy to be "fire sales." I certainly didn't. There's no reason you can't get younger, more athletic and have a more flexible payroll at the same time. Our best team in the last four years was the one with clearly the lowest payroll. Did we have a "fire sale" to get rid of Carlos Lee, Valentin and Ordonez. I think not, although some consider the Lee for Pods deal exactly that kind of trade. Exactly! And lets not forget with all the money KW will be saving by trading some of our high salaried players, he will likely use to add other pieces to make the 2009 as competitive as possible. I know for awhile he has been interested in Abreu. Raul Ibanez is another interesting name available. So not only is he going to use that money to bring over more pieces (such as a SP or maybe even Furcal for SS ) He is reloading the farm system back to what it was back in 2003-2004 status... Beckham, Danks, Viciedo, Poreda, Marquez and possibly guys like Bailey, Hanson or even Heyward would be a hell of a start.... Im pretty sure if the traded Vazquez and Dye for prospects, our payroll would be around the $75 million dollar range. That would give KW about 25-40 million to use on free agency or he could just use it on free agency in 2010 while seeing what he has in Anderson and Fields one last time in 2009.
  5. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) Dye has a limited no-trade clause that blocks deals to six teams. "We certainly would have to be contacted if any of the teams were on that list," agent Bob Bry said. "The Mets and Phillies have been rumored with Jermaine, and they are on the list." The Reds probably aren't on the list, but there's been little to suggest there's anything to the Cincinnati radio report that the White Sox and Reds were discussing a deal involving Dye and Homer Bailey. The only rumors we here that usally come true are the whole 'interested in Japanese or Cuban player rumors' As far as all the trades and free agents go, if you see or hear a 'rumor' than its not going to happen... We have learned that over the past year and a half.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) I quietly believe the Sox plan is to have Alexei in CF and Furcal at SS. Hmm thats a possibility. I wouldn't even mind if Alexie stayed at 2b... Let Fields and Viciedo duke it out during ST for 3b. And go ahead and get a speedy CF, LFer via trade....
  7. i agree. Just because Reiny wants to trim the payroll alittle bit, it doesnt mean he doesnt want his team to contend... KW and JR both made that clear. Pretty much JR just wants KW to be creative, kind of like how he was in 2005. Trade Dye for some young pitchers while getting rid of that 24 million owed to him- okay good. Now you have a good chunk of change to use on free agency or even aqcuirering a guy like Roberts via trade.
  8. Kenny has proved in the past to make deals for young pitching and it usually pans out to our benefit. However, I hope he waits around to see where the market goes before he shops Dye. The only team I would actively talk to would be Tampa. Edwin Jackson for JD would be awesome. Im sure Tampa would consider that if we eat about half of JDs contract.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) That rotation would be sick, but I'd assume that leaves very little money to resign that fairly important 1b bat and that moderately important closer they have. Yea.. im guessing K-Rod goes to the Mets and Texiera signs something ridiculous with the Nats. Who knows how they will fill those holes.. probably through trades....
  10. LA Times Im guessing he signs with LA. He's from Cali and the Angels are the closest to being a World Series type team in California. He will likely get Johan Santana type money which makes sense... A rotation of: Sabathia, Lackey, Santana, Saunders and Weaver would be sick!
  11. I would much rather have Jason Marquis then this guy. It sure as hell better be a smokescreen. ..
  12. why go after a #5 starter when there are pleanty of 2, 3 or 4's to be had. I dont like this move one bit. Hopefully the Nats nab him before we do.
  13. It makes sense for Tampa to trade for a guy like JD. He is on the cheaper end of the power hitters available and they need more power in their lineup. We need more speed and another SP. Who could they possibly give up? - Jackson or Sonnestine: These are the 2 names TB will be willing to deal at the right price this offseason. To me Jackson has more upside and has nastier stuff. -Carl Crawford- With the emergence of speedy guys like Iwamura and Upton- Crawford may be available. I think it would take more than Dye however. That is why I mentioned a possible Jenks-Dye for Crawford-Jackson possibility... Its far fetched but makes sense for both teams.
  14. Furcal may also be a possibility- which could mean Alexii would stay at 2b. According to Yahoo sports there are 6 teams bidding for his services: Could we be that mystery team? Hmmmm lol
  15. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) I'll throw out a name for discussion's sake, Gregor Blanco for the Atlanta Braves. He's a nice young player with a lot of promise. Plays a solid defense out in CF.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) Lol I think people are expecting too much. In all likelyhood, Fields will be our starting 3B going into next season and Getz/Nix will battle for the 2B/utility role. The only players who could be part of a trade are Dye and Vazquez in my opinion. Hey im a true american. I love to dream. In this case im dreaming of another White Sox world series haha. Hell, i would be happy if we get 1 of Crawford, DeJesus, or Roberts.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:36 PM) I haven't worked this out at all, but a lineup of the following would be nice (I'm assuming Fields, Getz, and Dye are traded, among others): 1. Roberts, 2B (S) 2. DeJesus, LF (L) 3. Quentin, RF (R) 4. Thome, DH (L) 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Ramirez, SS (R) 7. Pierzynski, C (L) 8. Betemit/Hinski/Viceido/? (S/L/R/?) 9. Anderzon, CF (R) We'd need some offensive presence to fill in at CF though as I still don't buy Anderson as an everyday CF, but that lineup would be very solid with much more speed, and better D. EDIT: I also know we don't have the resources to make such moves though. I agree with that Anderson assessment... I actually believe KW is still going to pull a true blockbuster (not that aqcuirering Roberts and DeJesus wouldnt be huge). I think the Sox and Rays could potentially agree to a deal that would send Crawford and Edwin Jackson for Bobby Jenks and Jermaine Dye with a few throw ins. I know it may seem bizare, but the Rays NEED more power and they already have enough speed and they are still pretty desperate for a true closer. I love our speculation intensity here haha: Heres my lineup: Roberts 2B (Trade Fields, Marquez, Richard) DeJesus LF (Trade Broadway, Getz) Quentin RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Ramirez SS Crawford CF (Trade Dye, Jenks) Pierzynski C Viciedo/Hinski/Betemit/Blake?? 3b Rotation: Buerhle, Floyd, Danks, Vazquez, Jackson Bullpen: Thorton, Linebrink, Dotel, Poreda....
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) If he doesn't get arb, we should seriously consider signing him. In the mean time, we should try and get DeJesus to be our CF/leadoff hitter. I know he isn't much of a centerfielder, but I think he's better than both Swisher and Griffey in center (not saying much though) and he's a very good hitter and getting better. DeJesus would be a great fit for sure. Im not so sure about him in CF. I would like him better in LF. If we ended up trading Dye, you would then move CQ to RF and you can plug DeJesus to LF. How about a 1-2 punch of Roberts-DeJesus- NIIIiiiiCe!
  19. QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) I wouldn't trade fields unless I know im signing Casey Blake or a legit 3B. Wilson Betemit does not do it for me. Whats the point of getting Roberts for 1 year to leave a huge hole at 3B that could be the sox Achilles heel in 09. You have to give up something to get something (even if its for 1 year). Say the O's wanted Fields in that package, thats fine. You have guys like Blake out there for a short term solution. You also can have Viciedo battle it out with Betemit or even Beckham as you would still have Getz at 2b for 2010. There would still be pleanty of options....
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) To be honest, with Beckham on the horizon and Ramirez already here... that's more money than I want the White Sox tying up in Hudson's injury-prone ass. Thats why I wouldn't mind trading Getz in a package for Roberts. There is NO way the Sox trade Poreda. If the O's can get a better package than Richards, Marquez and Fields or Getz for 1 year of services of Brian Roberts than good luck Andy 'the Clown' MacPhail.
  21. I actually think the O's will lower there demands for Roberts finally. Its going into the last year of his deal, the team has no reason to keep him around when obviously the Rays, Yanks and Red Sox own that division. Clayton Richard, Marquez and Getz or Fields should be enough to bring him over. He is basically a 1 year stop gap (and a hell of one at that). He would give us that leadoff hitter we desperatley need as well. I think you can count us out of the Orlando Hudson sweepstakes. This move just doesn't make sense for the Sox with the direction they are headed. The Angels are not giving up there reliable leadoff hitter for Paul Konerko- plus where would that leave us for 1b options? Crisp is overrated. Im glad he is no longer available. The best fit for 2009 is obviously Roberts. Its up to Baltamore to finally cut ties with 'there hero'
  22. Hell yeah! i can definitley see a 2010 infield of Viciedo, Ramirez, Beckham. 2009 would be a great time for Fields to increase his trade value....
  23. Im not so sure about Victorino. It would take an aweful lot to aqcuire him. However, the Blue Jays are apparently going to take phone calls on Roy Halladay... I wonder what it would take to aqcuire him... I think its safe to say niether team is likely to deal those guys. We still dont have a deep enough farm to do such a deal quite yet.
  24. I would much rather have Beckham play a year at triple-a at 2b. Why not go get a 1 year stop gap in Brian Roberts while were waiting for him to develop.
  25. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 06:07 PM) Then why would they trade him, like you just said in your last post? I said or meant to say he will be our starting 3b OR we will be better off trading him. There is no way Fields misses out on A starting 3b job this year either with us or someone else. If the Sox traded Crede last year, Fields would have been in there. They were also trying to trade him to the Florida Marlins for Cabrera last winter. KW has tried to find a starting job. If a young guy like Viciedo or Beckham is a better fit at 3b for us in '09, KW will finally trade him. He deserves a starting job somewhere and KW knows it.
