  1. im guessing Linebrink will back around September 1st... If its only a muscle thing like everyone says, sometimes that can take a good month or so to re-strengthn itself naturally. I think Crede is done for sure... and with the way Uribe is playing its not as big of a loss as people think.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Absolutely not...it should be Alexei or Swisher. agreed. due to the fact that Alexie provides nice balance at the bottom between the sluggers i would just switch AJ and Swish.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) What this all means is that we better win the division so we get an automatic pass away from the Angels in the first round The winner of the Central will likely play the winner of the East. If a team from the central makes it via wildcard they are going to face the Angels. The only thing set in stone is that the wild card is going to play the Angels. If the season ended today it would look like this: Boston @ LA Angels Chicago @ Tampa Bay If the Twins and Sox both make it will look like this: Twins/Sox @ LA Angels Twins/Sox @ Tampa A division title means we DONT have to play the Angels in the first round. If we make the playoffs we HAVE to win the division.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) the White Sox won't sign a pitcher to a 5 year deal and that's what Garland will command. I would much rather spend alittle bit more on a guy like Sheets. I know he has a history of getting hurt every year. But this guy would be the ACE we need. I also wouldnt' be surprised to see Vazquez moved this offseason, maybe for a young starter (Floyd type move perhaps?)
  5. QUOTE (Winning Ugly @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) D'Backs just got Adam Dunn for hardly nothing. I don't see why it would take a lot to get Washburn or Byrd. Hopefully KW does something.
  6. I think there is a high possibility that the wildcard will come from the central this year. Boston and the Yankees are have pitching problems of their own. While Tampa seems to be doing everything right and have the deepest pitching in the East. I think Boston will some how win the wildcard. But the White Sox OR Twins will make it very close. It will definitley be fun to see which 3 of the 5 make it.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) He's a free agent after this year, and I'm pretty sure the Indians have waved the white flag for this season. So I'd see no problem for this unless they're asking for too much. I would hope so. Byrd would be a great addition for us down the stretch... Seems logical. Indians can get a couple of prospects. The Sox fill that 5th spot hole. And we dont have to worry about paying him next year as he's a FA. BTW im sure most Sox fans know he's the guy that kept us from winning 11 straight in the post season in 2005
  8. Apparently Washburn hasn't cleared waivers and the Yankees have claimed him (they have a worse record than us so they would win the claim). However, Byrd has cleared waivers and is a free agent after '08. If you look at his last 5 starts he has been pretty damn good. 4-0 with a complete game: DATE OPP W L ERA IP H ER BB SO JUL 09 @DET 0 0 5.47 6.0 9 3 1 5 JUL 21 @LAA 1 0 5.28 5.2 9 1 2 5 JUL 28 DET 1 0 4.93 7.2 4 0 3 4 AUG 02 @MIN 1 0 4.72 7.0 6 1 2 1 AUG 09 @TOR 1 0 4.53 9.0 6 2 0 2 The only problem is, would the Indians dare to trade within the division.
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,7585963.story While we're all waiting for the real Carrasco to come around and screw things up, this article makes me think he's feeling actually less pressure at this point in his career, since he's seen it all in ten years Makes me hopeful that, if he hasnt figured something out about pitching, he just has a good mindset for it right now since he has been jostled around every pitching environment possible As long as it works out better than the Schoenwise experiment i'll be fine with it. The 5th spot has 9 starts the rest of the year, i find it hard to believe that KW isn't going to aqcuire a veteran starter.
  10. Beckett has 8 loses. So he clearly not as dominate as last season...lets get to him early and run with it! This would be a HUGE series win and boost for the team.
  11. Thats the free agent list after the 2009 season. It really doesnt apply for this season.
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) I like the way you think, but doubt that will be able to get done for both Beltre and Washburn. Jarrod doesn't excite me but what are our options, ya know? So Washburn's contract expires after 2009? Than i say lets pull the trigger. I like the fact that we'll finish the year with 3 lefties. His 4.79 ERA is nothing fancy, but its much better than having a revolving door at the 5th spot like we did in 2003 and 2004.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) Oh my God, this can't be happening. Im guessing Carassco is slotted there, but wont start. KW will pick up a veteran.
  14. Whats Washburn's contract status? Would Seattle pick up at least half of the contract?
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 10:25 PM) I'm getting really tired of Javy. ditto. pitching one good game in every 5 starts will NOT cut the mustard.
  16. Horrible managing by Ozzie tonight. Keeping Russel in the 8th in a close game was a bad choice. Same with Wasserman in the 9th. ALso he should have pinch ran for Thome in the 8th... then again i didnt think he was that slow. My grandma would have scored on her wheel cheer on that play. We blew waaay too many oppurtunities tonight. Now we play the defending champs. I just hope this isn't a carbon copy of the road trip when we won the first 2 vs Detroit and go 4-6.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) I still don't think that I'm the best option though. I think you missed my bad joke. oh i see what you did, you highlighted NS. Pretty bad joke but thats how us Sox fans roll! GO SOX!
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) I really don't have the speed to play CF anymore. Dye needs a day off after the beating he got yesterday. Griffey was playing RF in cincy all year long so im not too worried with him out there for one day.
  19. I chose Alexie and Dotel. You can always count on those 2.
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) A month ago I would have thought slim to none with slim on the first flight out of town. But now, he seems he has earned some playing time back, plays the best defense of anyone on the team, and most importantly has not caused a distraction with his benching. With the market tight for MI and OC as good as gone, what are the chances Uribe is brought back as at least the utility player that Ozuna was meant to be this season, and maybe as the starting 2B? He has one of the worst offensive approaches in the game, but pitching and defense contributes just as much to winning as hitting does. I am going to add the disclaimer that is not my preference that Uribe returns as the starter, but Beckham may not be that far away depending on when (if) he signs, and signing another MI long term may not be cost effective. I'd take him back as our 4th infielder any day of the week, but not as a fulltime starter. Unfortanately he will likely sign elsewhere to become a fulltime starting SS. Teams like SF and Baltamore will likely pick him up. My guess is KW will attempt to resign Crede but talks with Boras will go nowhere. So i can see KW trying his best to get a guy like Figgins again. Its definitley a defensive downgrade but KW has been be in love with this guy for awhile. ANd we all know that if KW is in love with a player, he'll eventually get him. Erstad in 2001, eventually got him in 2007. Thome when he left Cleveland got him in 2006 Griffey in 2005, got him in 2008 Figgins in 2007 and 2008, get him in 2009? You could also bring up guys like the Alomars, and Everett etc.... Oh BTW KW is also in love with Orlando Hudson. So we may see an infield of Hudson, Ramirez, and Figgins next year..which isn't too bad.
  21. We needed an excellent performance from Danksy and he came through, he truly is developing into an outstanding pitcher in this league. Verlander continues to have nightmares vs Thome lol. And i agree Alexie has been huge all season long. Lets get em tommorow. A sweep would be HUGE.
  22. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) getting closer MIN 4 SEA 3 C'mon Mariners!
  23. Danks needs to go 7 strong.... Hopefully the offense attacks Verlander once again.. if we get to there bullpen by the 5th or 6th inning, we should win this. Hopefully Uribe is back at 3rd. I love our current infield, esspecially with Swish at 1b, im guessing he will be back at 1st today.
