7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
GreatScott82 replied to joejoesox's topic in 2008 Season in Review
We've held first place since May... i have liked it and i dont want to lose it anytime soon. C'mon Gavin, Offense, DEFENSE-Please! Tonights the night PK gets more than one hit? -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) Just saw on ESPNEWS that Buster Olney is reporting that the Sawx and Marlins are in serious discussions about a Manny Ramirez deal. just heard on the radio that the deal is pretty much done. wow this is huge for the Marlins... they have PLEANTY of cash to spend lol.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Rumor is no one is really biting on Orlando. I find that hard to believe. The Dodgers are desperate for a SS. The only way i can see KW moving Cabrera is if he gets Roberts from Baltamore. Three team deal perhaps?

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 10:58 PM) Nothing is going to happen. Kenny has probably asked Paulie what he thinks, and we are all set. This team isn't winning a playoff series with the team they have now. The SP is inconsistent and shaky lately, the bullpen seems to be faltering, and Konerko won't snap out of his season long funk... sorry it just wont happen. We need another bullpen arm and perhaps another starter pitcher. Oh and it would be nice if the defense steps it up, these last few weeks it has been pretty bad. So if KW doesnt make a move, which is most likely, we'll be lucky to win this division.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) The New York Post believes the Red Sox and Dodgers are still talking about a deal that would send Manny Ramirez to Los Angeles, with the cash to cover his salary, in return for Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier. Boston would likely prefer Kemp, who is both more talented and a better fit for a lineup that would get awfully lefty heavy with Ethier. Of course, it's possible they'd just flip the one they received to the Braves as part of a Mark Teixeira deal. The most likely scenario has nothing getting done at all. For what it's worth, no one in Boston or Los Angeles has suggested there's much going on here. FOXSports.con's Ken Rosenthal believes the Dodgers are focusing on landing a shortstop. Jul. 29 - 4:22 pm et If that Manny thing falls through... a possible 3 way deal with the O's-Dodger and White Sox? Involving Roberts/Cabrera of course....
-
and the best team in baseball just got alot better.
-
Yep our defense has been brutal. Our SP has been below average at best and guys we used to count on in the pen (Logan and Massett) we cant count on anymore. KW needs to make some moves..... but unfortanatley he probably wont. We will be lucky to win one this series.
-
Just thinking. If we do end up winning this division "as is" meaning KW will stay put with this team. What would be our starting 4 in order in the playoffs. Obviously there is 2 months of baseball left and a lot of things can happen, but as of right now who would you go with? I would have to go with Buerhle, Floyd, Danks, Javy. Pretty much the order of what the rotation is. Who knows whats going to happen with Contreras. He has struggled for 5-6 starts before he was put on the DL, so whats to say he will rebound? And Javy just hasn't been consistant enough to slot him up in the top 3. I really wish KW will try and aqcuire Duchsherer. I know it jeopardizes the future as we would likely trade Fields and Poreda but can we really afford to have one or two of our starters struggling heading into the playoffs? That would seriously put ALOT of pressure on Dotel and Jenks the rest of the way. What are your thoughts? Can we win this thing with what we have or do we 'need' another SP?
-
The only thing left for Manny to do in his career is to DH. If the Sox dont exercise Thome's option next year and trade Paulie i would highly consider him for DH next year as a free agent. I highly doubt Boston trades him, nibody is going to want to take on that option.
-
Poor ABs by the guys in the 9th inning helping Rodney out. But oh well we took 2 of 3 in Detroit (who has been playing solid ball lately) We are 6.5 games ahead of them and remain 2.5 games ahead of Minny, we gained a game on Detroit which is a success. This Minny series will be the biggest of the year. 1st place is on the line. Minny has been scuffling a bit, we need to take advantage of that. It would be great to go into that series with a new SP and/or relief pitcher. Its too bad KW is pretty much said he's not going to make any deals.
-
Thorton will also miss some time due to his back troubles. That leaves us with Dotel in the 8th, Jenks in the 9th. What worries me is the 6th and 7th innings. With the way Logan has been pitching and the uncertainty of Massett we need KW to make that phone call asap! The 2 teams that come to mind are Baltamore and Oakland. Oakland has Street/ Duchsherer, Baltamore has D. Cabrera/ Sherill. I would love for KW to kill 2 birds with one stone, even if that one stone means many mini pebbles from our farm system.
-
good, another one of those Sox killers out of the division: (Santana, Sabathia, Michaels, Blake, Hunter etc....)
-
If we move Floyd, it better for an ace. And the only one that comes to mind who is on the market is Holiday. Whats his contract status?
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) Do that in a heartbeat. ditto!
-
Oakland has Duchscherer slotted for saturday. Im sure if KW brings him over it would be either tonight or tommorow if its going to happen at all.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 05:43 PM) Anyone know how many games in a row Josh has played? I dont know, but it sure is interesting to see with all these rumors.... stay tuned.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 05:25 PM) All this talk of duscherer and were gonna end up with someone nobody thought was going to get traded from a team nobody is talking about. book it. lol you are probably right! but i am intrigued to hear that KW is being aggressive. Hell yea, he sees another WS chance and he is going for it. Well hopefully... i know it will be hard to part with Fields (especially with Crede's uncertainty) but we have a chance to do it now, and another top of the rotation guy can definitley help that chance.

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 05:20 PM) BTW, I don't ever remember a rumored Sox deal that actually went down, so I doubt this happens. Quentin: Under the radar Swisher: Under the radar Cabrera: Under the radar Thome: Under the radar Floyd: Under the radar Danks/Masset: Under the radar Thornton: Under the radar Freddy Garcia: Under the radar Does anyone ever remember hearing rumors about any of these? Just curious. Lol good point. I think in 2004 the Sox were 'one' of the many teams interested in Garcia, but everyone was shocked when it happened. Well hopefully KW shocks us again and nets us Holiday
-
Uribe for Cora? That doesnt make us better at all. And Ramirez hasn't played much SS at ALL this year, are we certain he would be okay to finish the year off there? And hasn't Roberts been slumping lately? And do we even have the chips to offer Baltamore for Roberts? Unless its some crazy 3 way deal i dont think this whole deal happens. OC has been more than productive as our leadoff hitter this year... What we really need is more pitching depth.
-
Reports out of San Fran say the Sox are one of the 4 still interested. Hell yea KW should attempt to get this guy, with the way Thorton (who i think will rebound) and Logan (i think he needs to re-do his approach down in triple-a) have been suckin Street will be that final piece to a bullpen that can be one of the best in White Sox history. Jenks, Dotel, Linebrink, Street. WOWZA!
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Honestly, if I were the Dodgers...I'd seriously be talking to the Sox about Konerko right now, because with the Sox holding Swisher as an out of position 1b in CF and Konerko struggling, I might be able to get him at a bargain price and actually pack some punch into my lineup. Well we were MUCH better defensively with BA out in CF and Swish at 1b. And LA and Arizona are the only 2 destinations Pauly would go to, with that being said, LA can buy Paulie cheap and we could finally add some depth to our farm system. I think its time to move on with out PK, unfortanately the Sox are in love with him even if he has become more of a liability than a strength.

KW article on potential trades Not sure if this was posted already but i figured i would start a thread on it. Is KW really going to sit on his hands with a .5 game lead heading into the trade deadline or is this his 'flying under the rader' type tactics? This team is desperate for another reliever AND starter. There is no way we win this division with the way our pitching has been playing as of late. I know our farm isn't too beefy with talent but something should be done.
-
our pitching over all has been crap latley, we NEED to win these next 2. Look at the last 10 games vs the Royals and Rangers we have given up an average of 7.1 runs/ game. Most of those runs are via our bullpen. So yeah im starting to get a little concerned. Kenny make some phone calls please... i would say our pen is a bigger issue than our starters right now.
-
sorry i meant Kalapse's interest in trading Fields not Balta. You interested in trading Fields too Balta?
-
Im with you Balta on trading Fields.... i know, i know but what about if Crede goes elsewear, then you likely will have a whole at 2b and 3b. Well that is when you use PK trade to the west coast a reality. PK to LA Angels for Chone Figgins/ pitcher. (He will probably allow a trade to LA to go play for Scoscia) Use Figgins as the 2b. And then bring in a crafty veteran or make another trade to play 3rd for one season, then convert Beckham to 3b in the minors. But that would be next year. This year its possible Fields can bring you Street and or Duscherer in a deal... were talking about this year and about making the playoffs this year!
