  1. Saw this article about a new type of battery that they say is 2-3 years away. Runs cool and lasts very, very long. Betavoltaic Battery What do our resident scientists think about this?
  2. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) Readings a skill, he said everyone was upset because everyone like Young more than Anderson. Yeah people may have liked the trade but theyd have rather given up BA. At the time we didn't necessarily need Young because we had a ton of OFs that we still felt had potential like Owens and Sweeney. Come on. Why the initial shot at my intelligence? Is that really necessary because you disagree? I admit that I went too far by saying a statement was ridiculous rather than wrong, but why the shot? I was responding to the first part of his post where he stated that everyone hated the trade at the time. Here it is for you to read. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) This isnt really hindsight, everyone was upset at the deal at the time and everyone thought more of Young than Anderson. That being said people werent nearly as down on Anderson as they are now either just between the two. You see the "and" in there. There were 2 points that were made. I'll leave it at that and won't go on and belittle you since I don't need to do that. The 2nd point I actually agree with, Young was a better prospect. The 20/20 hindsight comes in with how bad the other OFs have turned out for us so far (with the exception of Owens who I still think will be good), and crying about how things have turned out. Why else would this sudden bit of information from Rogers come out? Whenever you look back like this, with this sour attitude, you will always find something that could have been done better. It is the easiest thing in the world to do, and it gets us all talking in circles and bickering just like you started your post out with.
  3. Really? Everyone? I know that is not true. Just because you may have thought so, doesn't mean eveyone else did. That is really a ridiculous statement to make. Here you go. Take a look at it yourself. Seems like many liked the trade. Trade Reaction 80 - Great Trade 60 - Wait and see And a big fat 18 said terrible trade. That is definitely everyone.
  4. I love me some 20/20 hind sight!
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) I get an error when I click that link. I'd really like to see that story, though. Story showed up on Digg and may be getting too much traffic for the web site. Here is another link without the pretty graphics from the first. Business Week Link
  6. Just ran across this article today. There is a new thought on storing energy from wind farms during low demand times, and it involves using the geology of the land to do it. From the article, it can be used in 83% of the US. Storing Energy Underground I think that it sounds pretty sweet and love that they are doing it right here in Iowa.
  7. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Unfortunately I drafted like crap in League 4, and Vandy125 took the title. I don't think that is unfortunate at all QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) I believe that's a repeat champion. Boo-Yah! That's right. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Congratulations to all the winners! Thanks! Good job outta you too.

    The Office

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) I'd have to say the Christmas episodes are the all-time best. I think that my favorite was the office olympics one. That one is funny all the way through.
  9. I shouldn't be surprised, but I am surprised. Don't we have all kinds of educational programs and things that we tell our kids where "Character Counts!"? What are we saying about ourselves if we are willing to replace someone like Jim Thome with Barry? I know that there is a difference in talent level, but we would definitely pay for that difference by sticking with Uribe for another season or some other stupid thing that would leave the team with even more holes than it already has. Don't kid yourselves, we would need to trade away some contracts to take on Barry. Thome, his ability, and his character with less holes on the team >>>>>>>>>> Bonds, his ability, and his character with even more holes on the team. It's not even close for me.
  10. Hey Nuke, is there any way to tell where all of those weapons came from in your last post? Just wondering if you can look at something and say, "This was a British made such and such that came from Switzerland." (I'm just throwing some names of countries out there). Or, is it impossible to tell where they came from?
  11. Ran into a story today on CBS that talked about the 756 homerun ball. HR #756 Looks like there is a public vote on what to do with it from the guy who won the auction: Vote on #756
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) And from the other point of view, it seems like a lot of people will never, ever blame Ozzie for anything. I'm just shocked that people don't expect this type of polar opposite debate on a sports message board. So, just because someone is wrong on one polar opposite, you are right with the other polar opposite? How does that logic work?
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) If you start a thread with the title "Fear God" then you should expect someone to poke fun. Why? Not saying I agree with using a message board to send out this type of message (should be a one-on-one conversation IMO), but why?
  14. I had this happen to me recently, and I had to "rebuild" the Ipod (I forget what their terminlogy actually is). Basically had to have everything cleared out on the Ipod and reloaded.
  15. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:52 PM) And my thinking was that this should have been a Filibustered post. The initial post was not respectfully offered, and so yes I agree it is a respect issue. The post was a thrown down gauntlet to "wake up" by another poster who has also been around long enough to know where the divisive stuff belongs. How was it not respectfully offered? It was directed at Christians. Are you a Christian? It sure doesn't seem like it based on the blatantly disrepectful posts that you followed it up with. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seemed pretty full of anger and hate. How do you expect to be treated with respect with those types of responses to something you disagree with? I really do appreciate your thoughts and insights, but you went over the line. Sure it should have been filibustered, but can you admit that you may have gone too far there?
  16. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) I really don't even care anymore.....Can't Wait Till '08! thats my new motto for the rest of the year. Mine is actually, "When do the Bears start?"
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) So, you're telling me the entire key to this organization is Pablo? TIMO! They weren't that good with Pablo this year and a good portion of last year. So, it can't be him.
  18. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) Hold on a second, the MFer who has no legs said he was too drunk to drive?? How about the fact that he has no legs? So had he been sober everything woulda been fine? Did you also happen to notice that it was his third drunken driving offense?
  19. Actually, I would say that I am a Republican, but even if Edwards doesn't have his crap in order, I would love to see SUVs off of the road for the most part (or at least a much more efficient version out there). If we actually do believe in global warming, saving the environment, and reducing our dependency on foreign energy, we need to take some steps to do this. If that involves taking over-sized, under-utilized, oil chugging vehicles off the road, I am all for it. We already have regulations in place for how much crap your car can spew out. This would be the same sort of thing except that we are regulating how much it can take in, and it would be for similar reasons.
  20. I just gotta say that I saw Vick's apology, and I appreciate what he said. I would like to see how he behaves from here on out. Maybe he will actually learn something from all of this. If he does use this opportunity to turn himself around, I would not have much trouble cheering him on again. That may be a big "if" though.
  21. Went to the game tonight. So, glad that I came in from Iowa for that one...
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 12:10 PM) I suggest polar bears. Tigers are much cooler IMO. Nice kitty...
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) I also have not encountered one person who has said anything remotely close to this being a race issue. Here is what I see as a BIG part of the problem. There are places in this country, such as where I live, where there is not much of a black community in the area. So, one can not really even have the opportunity to discover through personal means where members of that community stand. The only thing that we see is Jesse Jackson, the NAACP, and other members that the media always runs to. This is probably the worst sampling that we can get. But, it is the ONLY sampling that many people see. Also, if you do have access to that community, how many people have actually asked someone if they thought it was a race issue, and have gotten an answer that they know is what the person is truly feeling? I would suspect, and this is JMHO, that a black person would not want to tell a white person that they saw it as a racist issue unless they are a bit more boisterous. So, my point is, that even if their opinions are not even close to representative of the black population, a lot of people get their reactions from that community through the likes of Jesse, etc. Awesome! After living in Chicago for a while, I know not to trust their opinions, but I really am left with no basis to know anything at all about what that community thinks other than my memories from high school of friends I had back then. And who really talked about those types of things in High School? edit: Wanted to make the green clear.
