  1. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 07:31 AM) Does this also maybe translate to wireless TV's, lights, everything else you have to plug in??? Maybe eventually, wireless cars...that would be sweet with a good infrastructure set up.
  2. Biographical Data Player Name: Aaron Poreda Position: Starting Pitcher School: University of San Francisco School Type: Four-Year College Academic Class: Junior Birthdate: 10/01/86 Height: 6'6" Weight: 240 lbs. Bats: Left Throws: Left Report Date(s): 02/16/07 Game(s): UC Riverside Focus Area Comments Fastball: Poreda's only true pitch, but it's plus-plus. He gained 6-7 mph on it this season and was throwing it comfortably at 95-96 mph. FB Movement: His fastball sinks and runs and he's able to throw it for strikes. Slider: He has one, but it's way behind the fastball. Changeup: Just like the slider, Poreda's changeup needs a lot of work. Poise: Poreda's poise was fair, at best, but will come as he has more success on the mound. Physical Description: Big, strong left-hander with projectable frame that has already filled out some from last year. Medical Update: Healthy. Strengths: Plus, plus fastball with above-average movement and the ability to throw strikes consistently. Weaknesses: His secondary stuff. The slider and changeup will have to come a long way. Even though he's a lefty, he's not good at getting left-handed hitters out. Summary: Poreda is one of those pitchers who is new to being good. Players who come out of nowhere like he has (with the jump in velocity, especially) have to get used to being dominant. Once he grows accustomed to that, his poise should improve by leaps and bounds.
  3. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) says latinos are unfairly targeted As someone from Venezuela, I don't see why he should have any problems with them asking him questions about that area and only that area. I would hope that they would not be asking him questions about Japan, etc. He's probably just not getting the full picture.
  4. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 11:29 AM) given our recent stretch of luck, i'd have to think the worst possible scenario for the white sox is what will happen. however, i must say that i'm not a real doctor, i just play one on internet message boards. Did you recently stay at a Holiday Inn Express?
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) You know, I hate being one of those conspiracy folks, but this is one of those cases that just seems to say "There's something going on here" other than what is a cries out to my eyesctually written in the story. As 2k5 said, it seems like all of the forces are suggesting this is more than a cyclical rise, the profit potential should be enormous, and yet nothing is happening, which allows for a couple of other groups to cash in. Of course, the peak oil concept could well be playing a part in here also, in that if people think oil production worldwide will be declining within a few years, then the point of building a new refinery is gone. There's always risks out there with jumping in to things like this. However, usually somebody is willing to do it.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) I'm still shocked that MacDougal got Overbay out. He did get a bit lucky with PK being able to snag it, but then Thornton got unlucky with that bloop hit.
  7. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) I hate our f***ing bullpen. Blow it up. Don't you just love the contrast between how we are hitting other team's bullpens vs. how they are hitting ours?
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) What happened in the game to cause it? Pagan made the 1st out of an inning on a close play at third by trying to advance on a ball in the dirt. Fans and Pinella (or however you spell it) thought he was safe. Replay show out.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) I dont want MMac facing Thomas. Who would you want? Lefty on righty with Boone or Thornton? Too early for Jenks. Day?
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) If you think this is a great time to bring in a gas can who cant throw strikes with 2 men on, and Frank Thomas backing this guy up I suggest you get back to your afternoon beer. Just looking for someone to actually put some thoughts behind doom and gloom statements. I agree with everyone about not liking him out there, but wanted some actual thoughts from people.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) Thornton or Boone Logan. You have a lefty contact hitter up with men on. Kind of what I was thinking, but we can only see how it turns out.
  12. Who should Ozzie have brought in? Just curious from all of you arm-chair managers.
  13. Jimmy not looking too good at the plate right now.
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) Toby Hall Seriously, anybody can be our back up first baseman. Remember all of the arguments from Spring Training after he last played 1B?
  15. I'm going to hop on my XBox real quick and see if something works out. Hold on.
  16. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 31, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) Well, I didn't see the play, but from the sounds of it, it was a routine pop up and whoever was closer should have called for it and made the catch. In that type of play, it doesn't matter who the leader of the infield is. As long as it isn't the pitcher of course. From what I remember seeing, it could of gone to either one. SS should take charge and get everyone away. Maybe I saw it wrong though.
  17. If you are a pro SS, you take control of the situation and let the 3B get to his base to cover it. Then, none of this matters because you know the ball is yours. The only reason this happened was because the 3B was expecting to get called off the ball, but the SS never did.
  18. I may watch it on ESPN, but it will be with the mute button on. You know that the whole time they will be talking about Clemens...and how good he is...and how awesome the Yankees are...and how he will turn their team around...etc :puke
  19. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ May 29, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) Great Insight... atleast give me a pat on the back and tell me everything will be okay... that's what you are telling me right? Pat Pat Pat Is that better? Didn't we go through this "Blow this team up!" crap a couple of weeks ago? I don't think there is much that can be done right now. How many teams are going to give anything good up right now? Pretty much EVERYONE is still gauging how well their teams can do this year except for the no-talent teams. Maybe we can trade with KC? That's gone really well so far this year. Or, throw out the Devil Rays as trading partners out there. They never ask for the moon. All of this crying about the team only shows up during bad stretches, and it is pretty annoying. For better or worse, we are pretty much stuck with this team. I'm going to cheer them on and hope they can pull through the tough stretch. I'm not throwing the towel in this early. How about a couple more pats now?
  20. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ May 29, 2007 -> 09:30 AM) Bo Jackson Baseball for the NES. Bo was unstoppable. I think that it was MLBPA baseball for the SNES. I loved that game. Frank Thomas, Robin Ventura, Lance Johnson, Bo Jackson, Joey Cora, Ozzie Guillen, Black Jack, Alex Fernandez, etc.. One of the best teams that I had seen.
  21. My brother had every single rookie card of Bo's that he could find. I was kind of young when he was playing, but I do remember him running on the wall in Kansas City. That was crazy! I also had a baseball game with him on Sox. Since it was after his injury, he was slow as can be, but could hit the ball a mile.
  22. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 27, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) My friend just bought the PS2 version for $5 at gamestop. If you buy something called a maxdrive, you can download rosters for it online (the rosters are really good too). ^^^^^ I have the XBox version, and was able to get the rosters online for it.
