QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) I agree, BTW. When we took a trip out there a few years back they made Rob and I go back to our car and remove our White Sox jackets because, as they put it, " they were not responsible for what might happen to us." We told them that we were not obnoxious fans. We would clap politetly and respect their field. But they said the fact we wore anythig but Red Sox gear made us targets to all fans. Nice place. Ouch, are you saying that I should think twice about wearing my White Sox gear? Did you go to a game with the Sox playing?
  2. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) The reason they would do this is because its time to change the dialogue of our elections. American elections shouldn't be about the few small parts of Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvnia, etc. that are swing areas. Its about the entire country.... People in California, Texas, New York, etc. are disporportionately ignored both during the election cycle and in the way their votes are cast. I think the electoral college system is a stupid way to elect a president. Given recent historical standards, a 55-45% win in the popular vote is a landslide for presidential elections... But under the electoral college, the loser could takes office. Its dumb, the incumbent has a weak mandate, and it shifts the national focus from who the majority think should be president to who the majority of people in 7 counties in ohio think should be president. I hope other states adopt this rule also... enough to drastically change the discourse and tenor of our election cycles. I actually like the Electoral College. Sure, it is not perfect, but I do not want the popular vote to be the complete deciding factor. When that happens, only the voice of the large metro areas will count. Your farmers and rural population's needs will not be heard at all.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 12:18 PM) get the lobstah and the chowdah! But seriously, it's an awesome town If you are going to a game – heck, even if you are not – stay at the Hotel Buckminster. It's literally around the block from Fenway. It's a 100 year or so old building and it's lacking in a lot of modern ammenities, but you can't beat the rates (they do go up a bit on game nights), and you get a free breakfast with each night's stay. Driving in the city sucks. If you are driving, park your car and do not drive the whole time you are there (you can get a discounted parking voucher at Buckminster). Get to know and love the "T" - Boston's subway system. Best US metro transit system there is. 15 minutes from anywhere. If you are flying in and don't have a ton of luggage, it's only a two train ride to the hotel and there is a stop a block away. Definately take the time to do the historic stuff – Freedom Trail, Revere House, old North Church, etc. The New England aquarium is top notch – right on the water. While at the wharf, take a 1/2-day whale watching trip out to Stellwagen Bank – seeing humpbacks in northern waters in September is still likely. Also get a meal at Legal Seafood at the wharf if you have never eaten at a Legal's before. Best seafood resturaunt on the planet! Couple of decent brewpubs. The best one is a small one out in Cambridge. The most convenient one, right by Fenway is Boston Beer Works. I'm not typically a light pubbrew drinker, but the brewmaster here does better with his light stuff. The Bambino Gold and his Berliner-style weiss (with a dash of soodruff or respberry syrup) are quite good. One of the best beer bars I've ever been to is the Anam Cara Publick House on Beacon Street (same street as Buckminster, a couple miles down). Massive selection of Belgian brews, plus all the New England stuff like Allagash, plus finally I found a place on the east coast the carries Stone's line in draft and bottles. That's all I can think of at the moment. Harsh, Steff. Fenway is Fenway. I've not run into the rodent-infested resturaunt problem, but that is probably because I can't afford the 4-star dining. Thanks for the info Jim! I had been wondering about the subway system there. It looked like you can get just about anywhere on it. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) Expensive s*** hole. Not nice anywhere. Ate in a 4 star resturant and there were mice running around the dining room. Fenway sucks worse than Wrigley. Wow. I didn't expect to hear that about Fenway. Do they have the troughs too....uh...nevermind..wrong person to ask that.

The wife and I are looking at taking a trip out to Boston (possibly seeing a White Sox game and yes, I know I will have to pay a lot to see that) in September. The thing is that I have no idea about the area. What are the good parts of the city, places to stay away from, has anyone been there and saw something that we should definitely go and see, etc? Just looking for some good ideas, and some info about the area. I don't want to end up staying in a hotel in a bad part of town (already did that in Cleveland even though the hotel was nice).
  6. Because I am a nerd, I compared the average runs scored and standard deviation for 2004, 2005, and 2006. The average runs at this point were: 2004 - 5.591836735 2005 - 4.403846154 2006 - 5.431372549 The standard deviation was: 2004 - 4.046183219 2005 - 2.144391823 2006 - 3.054536966 If I remember my math classes correctly, the standard deviation means that for example in 2004 66% of our games were within 4 runs of the average (5.59). So, in 2004 66% of the time we ranged between 1.59 and 9.59 runs. In 2005, we averaged 4.40 runs per game and most of the time we were within 2 runs of that average (a lot more consistent). This year we are pretty close to the same amount of runs per game as 2004, but we are not fluctuating as wildly. We are also not as consistent as 2005. So, this year is kind of falling between 2004 and 2005.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 10:35 AM) What can KW do when a team isn't playing to its own talent level? Adding more talent won't give this team a new set of balls. LOL, for anyone that has seen it, this reminded me of Major League 2 (I know great movie). When Tanaka tells Cerrano "You have no... you have no... marbles! You have no marbles!" who replies "Marbles? Huevos?"
  8. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:24 AM) He fired another gem tonight against the Angels who've really been playing better of late. He's now 4-0 with 3 starts and a 2.11 ERA. I watched him and I've got to say his stuff is truly electric. If the twinkies get Radke on track, they'll make it even harder in the central. This season is so, so far from over... Didn't he take a no-hitter into the 6th last inning? Then, the Angels got an infield single on a bad call, and the Twins took him out after that inning.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 28, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Not all, only about 98 percent of them. I hate that damn place. I know I probably should not respond to this, but I just hate the low gas prices, low mortgage payments, low cost of living, ease of transportation, clean air, good schools, etc. I also hate all of the hicks out here who were able to invent something like the first electronic computer. Must be pretty backward and technologically deficient to come up with something like that. Seriously, there are a lot of good things about the place, and I get a bit tired of hearing the way some people talk about it.
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 29, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) Vandy, I am with you. Sure Hawk slurps him, but he does bring up a good point. THere is a point when time after time it stops being luck. That's what I think too. I think that he has a good idea of what the situation is and makes his own breaks by being aggressive. He makes them make a play.
  11. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 29, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) Haha, are you serious? He just waved Konerko around 3rd base when Jason Michaels already had the ball. Cora just got extrememly lucky. He's an awful 3rd base coach. Yes, I am serious. How many Sox players have you seen get thrown out at home?
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 29, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) Cora is so f***ing horrible... but lucky. What makes you say that? I think that he has been pretty darn good over there.
  13. QUOTE(Felix @ May 29, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Put THAT on the board! I heard a lot of boos.. maybe I heard wrong. Me too
  14. I have a feeling that Juan is going to be coming out of his slump soon.
  15. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 20, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) More Flubby fun! http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=31959 LOL!! That place has been a whole lot of fun today.
  16. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ May 20, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) I think Ozzie will give him a little more time yet before he replaces him. I hope he gets in a groove and starts hitting. He's got the hitting down. The next step is to use a bat.
  17. QUOTE(Brian @ May 20, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) Someone tell Brooks Broyer that we should do the ring and banner ceremony again tomorrow. LMAO That's hilarious
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 15, 2006 -> 05:31 AM) I read this article yesterday morning. Nice article, but I don't want New York sniffing around Coop. ^^^^^^ I don't like any rumors about Coop
  19. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 12, 2006 -> 02:45 AM) Only on page three... but philly chuck is crazy. I have never heard someone advocate for less hustle from players. Wow, I am just amazed.
  20. Ran across this one today. How many of these have you done? Evolution of Dance
