Official 2007 NFL Draft Thread
Palehosefan replied to knightni's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Raiders should take Russell if they keep the pick and Randy Moss. If they can switch 1st round picks with KC and acquire Trent Green, they should take an OL at #23 and they might be decent next year. As a Steelers fan, it's a CB in Revis or Leon Hall or bust. Time to get a real CB on the roster. -
Speaking of Cunningham, he turned 21 today. Both he and Micah should be moving up to Birmingham before the ASB I would guess.

You all will be delighted to know that 200 people actually showed up at the Duke Spring Game. I'm honestly not sure if 100 of those were the football team, managers, and coaches though. -
White Sox vs. Tigers, 4/22/07 (L)

Time for Brian Anderson and Boone Logan's AAA plane to get lost in the Bahamas or something and Konerko to unfurl his head from his ass. -
Justin Edwards pitches well again, loving that pick.
-
If I recall from memory, Laporta had below a .300 batting average that year when he was drafted lower than normal and Cheat is right that scouts questioned his contact potential. He might be a decent replacement for Konerko/Thome in the future, but I would still rather finally go after middle infield talent in the 1st.

Still, if the only way you can get a recruit is to hire their high school coach in a major conference like the SEC, then you are just asking for trouble. Most top recruits have an ego out of the world because of all the attention and accolades they receive. But other coaches can get them on their team without giving up an OC spot to their high school coaches. If you have to sell your soul for a recruit, you are asking for trouble. Mustain isn't absolved from blame either, but he got his way as a spoiled brat and now it has been taken away so he picked up his toys and went home crying all the way. And that's exactly what I'm saying, Carroll knows how to take charge over spoiled brats that come into his program each year, Nutt doesn't(didn't?). Maybe Nutt should resort to the good ole $$ to get recruits on campus like Carroll. -

I tend to blame Houston Nutt more than Mustain. Nutt ridiculously hires Mitch's high school coach as an OC in the SEC just to get a recruit, and then wonders how it went wrong when the kids think they run the program. -
UNC's Hansbrough, Lawson returning

Wright gone, will announce in the next day or so. Good luck to him. -
Master P is a very good player and tried out for a few NBA teams, his son's supposed to be a borderline D-1 talent PG.
-
It goes way beyond that actually, Roe actually committed to Roy Williams and UNC earlier in the year and just wanted to hold off on the announcement until the State playoffs were over. Then suddenly about a week before the announcement he sat down with his parents and magically ended up at MSU.
-
Roe is top 5 actually and was a big lean to UNC for the longest time, Roy Williams was in complete shock when Roe called to let him know it was MSU. He's a great get, very similar to Thaddeus Young in my opinion.

Really nice to see Justin Edwards pitching well at 19 years old.

Heard that a student said the gunman chained the main doors shut at the main shooting hall and then went into various classrooms shooting. -

Not sure what you are looking for in a late 1st round pick. Tolisano is athletic and brings a nice bat, even with wood. He took top 50 HS pitcher Drake Britton deep in the AFLAC all-star game and led his 4A district in homeruns last year with 9. from last year... http://www.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...6&fext=.jsp "John Tolisano, SS, Estero HS, Sanibel, Fla. Educationally, he's home schooled, but he plays his ball for Estero. His bat will determine his draft status. He's got power from both sides of the plate and those who have seen him hit with wood say the ball makes a different sound off of his bat."
-
Donny had a good final season at Stanford hitting .313 with 12 homers and 47 rbi's in 208 at-bats. As for Tolisano, he has very good power potential, this from BA Tolisano happened to beat out 6'3 230 pound 1B Anthony Rizzo in the home run contest, who was leading all of Florida high schools in home runs last time I checked.
-
I'm all on the train for drafting a middle infielder with our top pick this year, but I'm hoping for John Tolisano. As for Suzuki, he has outhit Lucy by a wide margin all throughout the minors, Lucy put up nice numbers all-around at Stanford, but it just hasn't translated to minor league ball. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/S/Kurt-Suzuki.shtml

Can I ask one more time why we drafted Kyle McCulloch in the 1st round?
-
No, because he's going to end up at Texas Tech, STAY AWAY FROM HIM!

UNC's Hansbrough, Lawson returning
Palehosefan replied to Palehosefan's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Seems to be 50-50 right now, and Roy has always understood players should probably leave when they are a top 5 pick. If Brandan is gone then Deon Thompson will get more minutes and UNC won't lose much. The sky is the future for Brandan in the NBA, he just needs to pack on 20 pounds of muscle and work with a shooting coach. I fully expect him to be gone. Main question UNC next year will be outside shooting. Reyshawn Terry and Wes Miller were the teams best outside threats and will be gone. Lawson, Ginyard, Green, and Frasor really need to focus on 3's this offseason. -
That's pretty special to have 0 stars, he must be in a class of his own. Looks like a decent pick-up, good size obviously and played on a very good AAU team(Houston Select).
-
http://www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/o...41207osubb.html That would be too bad for Cook to leave as well, he would be a 2nd round pick at best, altough I think he would be a raw steal in the 2nd.

http://northcarolina.scout.com/2/634427.html , great news with Lawson and Hansbrough returning, they were the most important, and I can't see Wright turning down a top 5 draft pick. Brightens my night a little after that s***ty loss for the Sox.

Congrats Kap, I know how much fun you have had getting it while juggling everything else in life. I'll be following down that path soon enough, so leave some bread crumbs or something.
