UNC 70, mighty Pfeiffer 35. At the half. The game had the worst call in history as well. Get this. Refs actually somehow called a charge AND and a blocking foul on the same play. That can't be possible. -

Good effort by Sam Houston, but TTU pulls it out with a 79-64 final. Bright is a good player. -
Little picked ND, congrats. You guys found yourself a great LB if you can convince him.
-
Little is a pretty horrendous WR and schools know it from watching him try to play the position in camps, as he has NO hands whatsoever. Schools will tell him anything he wants to hear to get him signed and on campus, but he will end up on the defensive side of the ball. I still believe it will be ND as well, but I know there is a long ways to February as well.

Texas Tech should be pretty good this year. They finally have the depth to make a run at the tournament again. Jackson rejoining the team is of course a great thing, but they even have depth behind him with Charles Burgess a talented Juco transfer, as well as their first legit 7 footer in a while in Ezmir Rizvic, another Juco transfer this year. At the very least, it would be a tremendous guards matchup between Marquette/Tech. Burgess/Jackson/Zeno vs. James/McNeal/Matthews should be a treat. Though for some reason Gardner-Webb worries me. -
Greg Little also announces tomorrow. Final two of UNC and Notre Dame. I've heard that ND is the favorite right now, but he made some interesting comments about Butch Davis today, so we will see. He will be a great LB for someone.

Speaking of coaches, Butch Davis apparently signed his contract to coach at UNC today, but they are holding off on the announcement until after UNC's homecoming game this weekend. The rumored contract is reported to be worth 2.5-3 mil a season, which would make him one of the top 5 paid coaches in America I believe. About time UNC cares about football since Mack left. -
Tough for me to root for Derrick, knowing that his success would be Reggie's success as well.

Sometimes Memphis doesn't pay enough and they look for a raise...

UNC appears on the verge of signing Butch Davis... -
But that's the definition of AAU basketball.

That is just an odd statement all-around. Gordon isn't and has never been the top player in the country. He has been the top ranked SG in his class for quite a while though. Yes he played very well with Rose, and lots of people went out to see them play together. But both players were already entrenched into their #1 SG and #2 PG positions and nothing changed, people just found out that they gelled well together.

So Jarrius Jackson was dismissed from the TTU team for not keeping up with his academic's. Yipee. -
I'm 23 years old and I have already been called twice, fun stuff. I'm thinking about staying in college forever to keep staying exempt.

I told you guys a long time ago not to be suprised of Benn ends up at Illinois. Here's another factor in his recruitment. From Jamie Newberg, Scout.com's main football recruiting analyst. "In addition, Benn’s best friend is Vontae Davis. Davis is Vernon Davis’s little brother and he’s from Dunbar High School, the home of Benn. Vontae Davis is one of the top freshmen in the country playing cornerback." "Something tells me we are all going to be a little surprised with Benn’s decision and don’t be surprised if he pulls the shocker of the year and decides on Illinois."

Texas Tech quite possibly played their best game of Mike Leach's tenure and still didn't beat Texas. I'm not one to whine about refs, but it was horribly officiated and Texas just made enough plays to come back from a 21-0 deficit and stop Tech's 4th and 1 try inside the red zone with under 2 minutes to play. Tech showed they can play on an elite level, just not consistently enough yet. -

You gotta feel bad for Ben. -

Yes Balta I believe that to be the case, and I also agree with 101 that Ben has looked better than he is because of the talent and scheme surrounding him. I don't think this crappy performance is the real Ben though, as I think he needs some time off to clear his head and let Batch get a few starts. -

Might have to. Ben is either going to keep playing until he's dead on the field, or until he throws 30 INT's for the year. He's on pace for 28 INT's on the year with 11 through 6 games. The funnest part for him? He still has to face the Baltimore D twice, Carolina, and Denver defenses the rest of the way. -

So yeah, if you haven't figured it out yet, Roethlisberger isn't a good QB. Pretty awesome feat about to happen this year. From Super Bowl to 1st pick in the draft. Atleast Brady Quinn will be available. That or see how much Jacksonville wants for Leftwich. -

NC State fans finally realize how much of a clown Chuck Amato is... -
Singler is from Oregon, but I don't think he ever committed there. He was rumored to be joining his good friend Kevin Love at UCLA, but Duke lured him away in the end.

Duke got a commitment from Kyle Singler today, good pick-up.

To probably state the obvious, you can win big with either great coaching or great talent. Teams with higher ranked players have a better chance of succeeding, due to the greater room for error with coaching. If Zook can bring in top 25 classes at Illinois, he might be able to find some coordinators that can coach them up well enough to get some bowl games. If he doesn't, he will end up like John Bunting at UNC, great recruiting classes, nothing to show for it. Mack Brown for instance, has always been the cream of the crop as a recruiter, and never has been a gameday coach, even at UNC. But he could always put enough talent on the field to beat lesser teams, he just couldn't ever beat FSU while at UNC, and OU at Texas for the longest time. He finally found a player in Vince Young that could overcome every coaching deficiency and beat all comers. I have basically come up with an opinion that I think fits pretty well for college football. If you have a unique style, you can win big. When you accumulate the elite talent like USC or Texas, you can then run the normal pro-style offenses and pound people into oblivion. I'm going to be watching to see if Urban Meyer switches to a pro-style offense at Florida as his talent accumulates or if he will be relatively unique like his predacessor Steve Spurrier, who kept a unique style his entire tenure. Another John Bunting example to fit, he always has tried to force his teams to run pro-style offenses and defenses, without the elite talent to do so, and it has been like pounding a square peg into a round hole, he was just too stubborn to change and it cost him his job. Basically, I am interested to see if the Illini hire an OC with a spread attack to match Juice's talents or if he goes the way of Bunting.

Some amusing quotes from the ACC coaches convention. Seth Greenberg, VT coach: "I like my team, Skip Prosser likes his team, Gary Williams likes his team, Dave Leitao likes his team. And Roy Williams likes both his teams" Skip Prosser said UNC was like Noah's arc, as they have two of everything, lol. Anyways, it cheered me up, along with Bunting finally being canned as UNC football coach.
