I think its actually the other way around. The Seahawks are the Astros, as they have never won a title. The Steelers are like the Sox because we haven't won a super bowl since the 70's. Also like the Sox, the Steelers started out on fire, then really cooled down in the middle of the season, and then heated back up around playoff time. Jerome = Frank :-), well those have been my two favorite players for a long time now. I'm nervous as hell. First UNC, then the Sox, and now maybe the Steelers. My sports fan life might be topping out at 22 years old for me. -

Duce Staley should be available again this offseason. You guys can pick him up for a couple of million, and he might give you 2-3 games a year. Otherwise he's a great cheerleader on the sideline, and might wear that neat Beanie he likes to wear on the sideline. Its a big bonus. -

I'm still waiting on a deal I thought about before the season started. One that I think would help both teams, not that either one are going anywhere this year. Atlanta Hawks trade Josh Childress to the Charlotte Bobcats for Brevin Knight. Hawks need a true PG, and the Bobcats could use another wing, especially with all the injuries and suckitude of Kareem Rush. Also, I would like to see my Heat trade Antoine Walker and some cash to a bum on the street, to do what he wants with. -
Scoop Jackson discovered Joey Porter
Palehosefan replied to Kyyle23's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think he may have meant he discovered Porter, as in he finally found out about him, or finally started watching him play. I don't think he's actually saying he discovered Porter as a good LB, as most scouts knew he was the most dangerous pass rusher for us for the past 4-5 years. -

TTU confusing the heck out of me. 12-10 after today. Here's the rest of their schedule. L 02/6 No. 8 Texas L?? 02/11 at No. 25 Colorado W 02/15 Kansas State W 02/18 at Nebraska L?? 02/20 No. 18 Oklahoma W 02/25 at Oklahoma State W03/1 at Baylor W 03/4 Texas A&M That would be 17-13 heading into the Big 12 tourney, 2 wins in the Big 12 tourney and I think they are in at 19-14. Of course, Nebraska, OSU, and Texas A&M could be losses, but then again they could suprise again and beat Colorado and OU at their place. Atleast there's a chance at the tourney, which is pretty crazy considering the slow start this year. But I believe 19 wins is the minimum for the tourney to consider them, so I'm not holding my breath. -
Yeah its been a big thing here today, with Lubbock being Buddy Holly's birthplace. I can't tell you how many times they have played "the day the music died" :-).

Gotta give Felton more love as well. Bobcats take down the Lakers, with Felton scoring 16, dishing out 8 assists, and pulling in 7 rebounds, with 4 steals. When he gets the minutes, he fills up the stat sheets. This PG class in the NBA is special, and to think, Felton and Paul could have shared the backcourt at UNC had Doherty not insulted Paul with a walk-on offer only. Thanks again Doherty. -

Basically, if you are white, there are going to be questions of your athleticism. Not saying its right or wrong, because I've called many GM's boneheads in the past for selecting guys like Curtis Borchardt, Chris Kaman, etc so high. I don't see Adam Morrison being any worse than say Mike Dunleavy, and best case to me would be Glenn Robinson. Yes, I realize how good of an offensive player Robinson has been. But with the right team, I can see Morrison putting up over 18 a game at the pro level, as he has a nice shot from anywhere on the court, mid-range, long-range, finishing drives with contact. He doesn't play much defense, but he can probably outscore his man on most nights at the SF position. As for the top pick in the draft, I look for Tyrus Thomas from LSU, and Al Horford from Florida to make some noise before all is said and done, especially at the draft camp. -

Gut is actually a pretty decent comparison for the Weber worries. Gut could coach very well, he just couldn't recruit. He's the reason the program went through the 8-20 debacle and the slide from the elite for a few years. He left the program with guys like Capel, Lang, Bersticker, Boone, Morrison etc. Gut coaches his first team to 33-4, and actually won the coach of the year award. He ended up with a .741 win percentage. His second final four team was a brilliant job of coaching. He had Ed Cota who was a very solid leader, Forte, who was one of the best players in the nation, and Haywood who could defend the paint. But he had absolutely no depth, playing a 6 man rotation. UNC was headed to the championship before Ed Cota got his 4th foul with about 6 minutes to play against Florida, and they made a comeback and won the game because he couldn't play any defense. Sure UNC lost both occasions, but thats nothing new, UNC has lost more final 4 games than any other college in the nation. With 5 titles in 17 final four appearances. -
I thought about him, but he still doesn't do as much as he should with his size and speed, top 50 recruit coming out, and only finally produced last year. Gerald was injury prone, but he played very well when healthy, especially last year when he rushed for over 1,100 yards on only 193 carries. Omar Jacobs didn't play the best competition, but neither did Ben Roethlisberger, Byron Leftwich, Daunte Culpepper, Steve McNair etc. Don't let that be your only argument. PSU guys will be ok in the NFL, just not stars. Jimmy Williams is a heck of a talent, no matter how bad his attitude and all the other Hokies attitudes are. Hawk will be a star LB in the NFL, but Lawson is an absolute beast. He will be a true freak of nature at the OLB position, 4.4 speed, 45 inch vertical, sack machine. Agree on Lawson, and McCargo left because the rest of the team decided to jump ship as well. Its close for Cutler and Lienart for me, both will be good NFL QB's, but Lienart's poise won the decision. Kloepenstein really impressed me at the senior bowl. He's got more athletecism than I gave him credit for, and has very nice hands and good size. I think Mercedes will be a good weapon on offense, but his blocking and sometimes effort leave a little to be desired.

1. Bobby Carpenter doesn't have the speed for an OLB. I'm really doubting he's going to run a 40 in the high 4.5's like his numbers show. Would be an intimidating presence in the middle. 2. Huff looks very much like a safety. He has a nose for the ball, and while he's not Ronnie Lott, like Mel Kiper believes, he's a very sure tackler. Doesn't have the best hips in the world, which would lead to a safety position in the NFL.

Ed played overseas in Israel for 6 or so years, and made millions. But he certainly didn't get to suck coach K's dick every day of those 6 years like a certain special PG in Durham(or two). Just giving you a hard time, its hard for me to be mean to you when you have been such a cool Duke fan over the year(s). -

JR unfortunately has always been allergic to defense. His idea of a good shot is a 35 foot 3 pointer. Granted, he can make more 35 footers than just about anyone. But his head is holding him back right now. He's got all the talent in the world to be a very good SG, and he reminds me alot of Vince Carter when he was younger. He's not quite as athletic as Vince was, but he's got a great vertical and a good outside shot to compliment it. He just has to find the desire to play defense and attack the basket. -

Its not just the big men. The guards play the same style of defense. Wojo won a phony defensive player of the year award off of it. Opposing PG's would complain after games about scratch marks covering their arms from Wojo, Ed Cota showed the media one game with scratch marks all over his arm. People just have to get used to it apparently, there is the way ref's call Duke games, and everyone else in America. -
