Amazing win for the UNC young guys today. First road game, going into Kentucky against a top 10 team, and coming out with a hard fought win. Reyshawn Terry and Wes Miller really stepped up, and the freshmen held their own. -
Might give a new meaning to "My Own Prison".

Yep, and here's what Derrick Rose's coach, Robert Smith, thinks about it... “It’s the Big Ten. No question about it. It’s their style of play kids just don’t want to be in. I mean, look at a Wisconsin game where their scores are something like 42-40. Who wants to play that kind of basketball? Our kids don’t,” Smith said. Most Illinois fans underestimated current and former Illini Coach Bill Self’s recruiting abilities, but I don’t think that’s an issue anymore. A current Big Ten assistant coach at another institution, who asked to remain anonymous, had this to say: “Bill Self is good. The coaches in Chicago love him, and he’s smooth and knows the game. Bill’s the kind of guy that can go into the clubs in Chicago and fit in right now and not miss a beat. Weber on the other hand, is a coach and a damn good one. No one can argue that, but what you see is what you get.” Kentucky's halfcourt style of play is what helped push Randolph Morris to declare early. He was told that Kentucky would play uptempo style, and it never happened, to alot of kids dismay, including Joe Crawford and Rajon Rondo. -
Charlie Villenueva is also having a nice rookie campaign for the Raptors, and I'm not gonna lie, it comes as a great shock to me. I've always thought of him as a tweener with no strongsuit.

I just don't understand why programs like Kentucky, Duke, Kansas etc don't facilitate a running style with the amount of good athletes they can and do recruit. There's no reason for a squad with Kansas' athletes to be running a halfcourt set of any style, leave that for Bobby Knight here at Texas Tech who has to make the most of what players he has. Kansas could make up for alot of the inexperience ala UNC with trapping and pushing the ball, not forcing your freshmen to think, instead just letting them play. -
The Hawks are a giant joke of an organization. They have no idea what they are doing. Drafting Marvin Williams when you really need a pg and 3 great PG's are sitting right in your range. Hiring Mike Woodson to coach one of the youngest teams in the league, when his style is confrontational and he's already almost gotten into a fight with Marvin Williams and Josh Childress. Then getting Joe Johnson and sticking him at the point. BRILLIANT.

Speaking of Redick, here's a gem from him. "I'm not going to comment on the officials," Redick said when asked about that call. "But I'm getting held every time down the floor." http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/sto..._pat&id=2243122 Be wary, you can only stomach so much of the article. -
Here's a couple of nice quotes about the situation... "The circumstances were unique. That doesn't excuse what he did. He's a very emotional guy in a game of emotional people. He got carried away because of the circumstances. We've been disappointing as a team, then the firing of Steve. He got carried away, and that's what he said. As far as I'm concerned, it's over." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From MotorCitySports.com, "Dre Bly should be applauded for articulating the sentiment that all Lions fans, and probably most players, have. Sick of losing, sick of being embarassed, particularly after the horrific display before a national audience on Thanksgiving Day, Bly has called for the organization to make itself accountable. Sure, the players are the ones who actually play the game, who blow the tackles, and who drop the passes. However, Dre Bly, like anyone who has developed a long-term association with the Lions’ organization, has reached his breaking point with the ingrained culture of futility that has defined the Lions for over four decades. Bly is assuming the role of a true team leader and is demanding a change. One has to wonder what would have happened if Barry Sanders, one of the few truly great players to ever wear a Lions uniform, would have chosen to present the Lions with a similar ultimatum after experiencing years of frustration, rather than to simply walk away from the team and from the game with his back turned in 1999. " ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Emkow's Soap Box: Get off Bly's back I find it odd that the majority of football fans, who like tough leaders in their players, are being so sensitive when it comes to Dre Bly's comments about Joey Harrington. Stop ripping on Bly, and start paying attention to his message! Why are those fans afraid of being offended? Should the offending party, in this case Bly, be more mindful of their beliefs? This traditionally un-P.C. crowd seems to want more political correctness. What Bly said about Joey Harrington and the Lions' young players offends died-in-wool traditionalists who have this puritanical vision of what football should be. He wasn't being sensitive to Harrington, or to traditionalists. So what? Those same traditionalists believe in blood, guts, mud, leather helmets, stern coaches who wear fedoras, and giving your life to a team. They want vocal team leaders willing to sacrifice personal friendships in order to make the team a winner. They want a QB getting in the face of a WR who ran the wrong route. That's a real leader. Look at all the man-love for Brett Favre and any fullback or linebacker who lets blood drip down their face during a game. Bly has been the consumate team player since the moment he arrived. He's been the one player who hounds free agents to move their families to Detroit, and the only player to show up at their press conferences when they do. He hounds coaches with ideas on how to improve the team, and on game day he produces like there's no tomorrow. He's been a starter in the Pro Bowl for two consecutive years, and he's likely headed for another. He is the greatest champion for this organization, the face of the franchise. He's also just 28 years old, and in his prime. Don't forget that he's already got his Super Bowl ring from St. Louis. He knows what winning looks like, and in his opinion, Harrington isn't it. And it's not like Bly hasn't given him a chance. He’s played with him for almost three seasons. What Bly did was stand up for the organization, and for you, even in the face of heavy criticism that he had to know was coming. He stated his beliefs in what the organization must do in order to stop losing. He's standing alone out on a limb, taking the heat for an idea that he likely shares with other teammates. Stop talking about cutting him, or hoping he's traded away so that Harrington can light him up in a future game. Have some respect for what he's trying to do. This isn't Terrell Owens slamming one of the NFL's great young QBs, just a year after demanding to play with him. This is an under-appreciated superstar standing up for what he believes is right. The rigid fans don't even necessarily disagree with his remarks. They just don't like how he made them -- on national television. Bly deserves praise for his guts and leadership, even if you don't agree with his message. These puritanical Lions fans need to get off their high-horses and start appreciating the fact that you have one of the NFL's premier young players at one of the most difficult positions on the field leading your team. Don't bow to the political correctness you claim to despise because he offended you. Look at what he's trying to accomplish with his words. He's really saying: Win now.

I'm amazed more and more each game at what Redick gets away with. If you are white and play at Duke, you can get away with murder. He hooks his man every single time he drives to the basket, and he whines and throws tantrums like nobody else. Can you imagine if Rashad McCants was seen throwing towels around on the UNC bench after a timeout? You would have never heard the end of the attitude comments. I was still very impressed with IU, just not sure if they have enough shooting to compliment Marco. We will see. -
There's a bit of a difference here. McNabb-Owens) history of tension, McNabb consistently put up great numbers and led the team to NFC championships, team was in great shape at the time. Harrington-Bly) no history of tension(atleast in the media), Harrington never had lived up to his draft position, Garcia always had put up better numbers than Joey, team has no hope of the playoffs. I seriously doubt Dre was the only Lion to feel the way he felt, he was just the only one to say something. I will admit, neither one should have opened their mouth. But it was nice to see Dre apologized to the team already. Still a very stupid decision.

Oh man Zoom, I didn't know there was a newer Twisted Metal game out. Now I have to go to Best Buy to get it this afternoon. I was addicted to the earlier versions. Personally, I'm a sports nut, and somewhat racing nut. I have had all the madden games and NCAA football games that came out. But I am playing NBA 2k6 the most right now, playing the streetball 24/7 mode. I'm liking it alot. My girlfriend talked me into renting Kingdom Hearts a while ago, and I became addicted to that. Its a great game, even if its just Disney characters. Its a very good rpg game for PS2, and I've heard a newer version is coming out soon.

Don't worry, its ESPN's new craze. Showing parents on TV, it started in Duke of course, but is spreading across the nation. Its the newest craze for ESPN since their bright idea of taking Doris Burke out of the Kentucky Derby to report on college basketball games. -

Yeah Reyshawn has been forcing shots this year. he was 12-20 from behind the arc last year, and is 0-7 this year, its been ugly. But I feel much better about our chances in the ACC after watching 2-3 games so far. We have alot of guys that can defend, handle the ball, and give alot of effort. The most impressive thing to me about it was that in the 2nd half, only freshmen scored for UNC, nobody else. We also missed Quentin Thomas's PG minutes and defense. He can really get out and run the break, better than Frasor. Frasor is better in the half court set, in which we struggled tonight. -

Don't get to down on Dee. Marcus Ginyard is an elite defender, even as a freshmen. He's going to lock down alot of good point guards this year. Thats one thing this Carolina team can do, is defend. Now shooting and rebounding, thats yet to be found. -

Good luck to us trying to rebound in the future. We are stuck with an unathletic white boy and a 6'6 WR trying to grab boards. Yikes. -

Its because we don't have any resident PSU fans that I know of. Everyone here is into hyping their own team. Can't blame them. But PSU definitely belongs in the BCS with the group of teams just below USC and Texas. I think PSU has the next Reggie Bush in Derrick Williams, too bad he's hurt. He's amazing. -
If you were the Colts...
Palehosefan replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm going to be in the minority here. The Colts have a chance to make history. There have been something like 39 super bowl winners, and only one undefeated team, and that wasn't even in a 16 game schedule. With that said, the Colts could play their starters until halftime against the Titans and the Cardinals and still win. Peyton doesn't get touched very often anyways, so there's not much to worry about outside of Edgerrin. -

Here's another reason for my thoughts on Rose. From Rose's own coach... “These players are not stupid. They want to play against the best competition available and that means playing in the Big 12, ACC or Pac Ten. And these guys all know each other. They want to go to schools where there’s some talent there with them. How do you think OSU did that? Derrick Rose will be the same way. He doesn’t want to go to a school and be “the man”. He wants a good supporting cast around him,” added Smith. " -

lol, its the norm with me. But even after calming down, I still believe most of, it not all of what I posted. Outside of Troy Polamalu, Casey Hampton, and possibly Joey Porter, I'm not sure if I would trade every single Steelers defender for their counterpart on the Colts D. I also don't even think its arguable that the Colts have better offensive players at every position on the field. The Steelers line has gone from one of the leagues best, to absolutely atrocious in no time. With all that said, I forgot to compliment the Colts on the game. Thats the best team I have seen in the past few years atleast. Manning could step up to the line and start telling a story about his grandmother and the defense would still be s***ting their pants. -

Definitely. If Ben Allen plays his best game yet and someone like Vaden can chase Redick around the court and make him take bad shots, then IU with Killingsworth having to lead the charge, could pull off the upset. Duke's weakness is that they are still not very athletic. They needed alot of help from the officials including 8 more fouls called on Memphis to come out on top in their last game. For as big as their frontline is, they still don't get alot of rebounds, including a combined 12 rebounds out of McRoberts and Williams in 70 minutes of play. I would like to see IU run some traps and man up the entire game. It should be the best game of the Big Ten/ACC showdown in my opinion, I can't wait. -

Everyone wanted Gordon, including the rare Duke offer without a commitment known beforehand. Coach K usually only hands out offers when he knows a guy will commit soon after, he doesn't like being left with an offer on the table to anyone. As for Rose, the Illini are about as much of a lock as you can be at this point. Kansas is the other main competition, and they will be coming off of two straight years getting one of the top 2 PG's in the class. You really don't think Rose will be bothered by having Chalmers and Sherron Collins in front him? Its never happened before, having 3 straight years with top 2 PG's commiting to a single school. Two straight years, yes. But not 3. -

Kind of hard to win when the Colts have a better head coach, QB, RB, WR's, OL, DL, LB's, CB's, Punter, Kicker, and Special teams in general. This is the life of a Steelers fan with Cowher at the helm, decent success in the regular season and choke after choke in the big games. Fun stuff.
