Stopping Calhoun is gonna be a hell of a task. Carolina constantly put 8 in the box and he still managed over 150, Wisc just kept pounding him and pounding him until eventually he wore down Carolina's D in the 4th and got some big runs. One thing Michigan has a big chance with is their passing game. If Henne is on, they could have a big day. You will likely see Wisconsin playing smash mouth football trying to speed up the game and Michigan airing it out trying to get as many possessions as possible. Will be interesting to see who prevails. Most people in the nation don't know about Calhoun yet, but they will. -

I was shocked how well the Texans DL played against the Steelers OL in the 2nd half. They pretty much shut any holes down and forced alot of carries from Willie for 1-2 yards just slamming into the back of offensive linemen. That scares me considering how much better the Pat's DL is than the Texans. It will be interesting to see how the Steelers will respond when someone actually punches them back in the mouth. It's been cruise control in both games at halftime and I don't see that happening next week. -

Willie Parker 25 carries for 112 yards and a TD. 3 straight 100 yard games going back to last season's season finale against Buffalo. Duce Staley will likely be healthy next week against the Patriots, will be interesting to see who gets the start and the majority of the carries. Can't imagine they would go away from Willie, he has a legitimate chance to rush for 1,500+ this year. -
Midnight Madness is a month away, BUT...

Carolina actually lost their top 7 in the rotation. But UNC isn't completely in the cellar now. Tyler Hansbrough has a chance to be the best freshman in the nation, he's tenacious. Reyshawn Terry will get his chance to shine, he's always had tons of talent being 6'9 with a very good handle and nice range. David Noel will be the leader of the team, and will likely be asked to play PF some this year. Outside of Duke, the ACC is up for grabs 2-12. If UNC gels well, they have a chance to win 18-19 games and sneak into the tourney. UNC will be back into the top 10 after this year. Right now, even if Marcus Williams comes back, I don't see anyone overtaking Duke. Duke is absolutely loaded with talent and experience, if K doesn't win it all this year its a major chokejob. Josh McRoberts will be one of the top 5 freshmen in the nation, he's unbelievably talented at 6'11. However, if Shelden Williams goes down, Duke could have alot of problems on the inside with toughness. -
I'm sorry guys, I didn't know my mood was affecting the entire board. Just do like I do, bury your head in the sand until October 2nd and be proud we backed into the playoffs :-).

Just take a look at rankings at PrincetonReview.com, ND, Michigan, UCLA, and Stanford blow Nebraska out of the water academic wise. But, football academics is a completely different story. Very few programs outside the Ivy league, Duke, ND, and Stanford have their football academic standards raised also. Michigan and UCLA entrances into football are probably no more strict than somewhere like Nebraska. Its pretty much impossible to pull in great recruiting classes with all scholars. There just aren't that many of them out there, thats why Stanford, and Duke struggle so much in football. Notre Dame didn't have quite the standards of a Duke/Stanford, but they had higher standards and were lucky to have their program held in such high esteem that alot of smart kids who happened to be able to play football wanted to come there. Nebraska took in 13 Juco's last year. Schools like ND, Stanford, etc could never do that.

If I was a recruit and had 5 visits. These would be them Hawaii USC UNC Texas Florida If it was my kid... Wayland Baptist Texas Christian Rice :-P In all seriousness, you can go pro from just about anywhere. If you have talent now, you will get noticed. Nebraska has a suprisingly high amount of pro's in the game, even young ones.

I guess Spurrier finally gave up giving Duke a vote in every poll. Haven't seen one in there in a while. -
Michigan gave that game away!

Henne fumbled the ball at the 2 and the defender recovered in the endzone for a touchback. Either way, Henne looked horrendous pretty much all game long. He showed off a great arm, but didn't have a clue where it was going. Kevin Grady is going to be a real good one though, and both QB's in this game will be NFL 1st round picks before its all said and done in my opinion. -

Rex, it actually happens in every program. There are 105 players on a roster and players can only be numbered 1-99 without numbers preceding with 0. So you are gonna have some overlap. You just can't have the players with the same numbers on the field at the same time. -
I wouldn't be so concerned if we weren't last in the AL in batting average, last in MLB in doubles, and 2nd to last in MLB in triples. Yes folks the freaking Mariners and the Royals passed us slightly in batting average tonight so we took the crown.

If you can get into Michigan, I would run with it. Michigan is one of the truly elite colleges in the nation. It combines great academics, with a great sports atmosphere. Having a degree from Michigan on your resume will help your cause no matter what you major in. I'm in engineering right now, and take it from me, its no cake walk. Just be prepared for alot of math, alot of science, and in my case, alot of programming. I'll put it this way, by the time I'm through with the degree, I will have enough math classes to have a minor in math. I had a similar conundrum 4 years ago when I was deciding what I wanted to do. I absolutely love sports and wanted to do something sports related, but then I realized the financial burdens that would be required. Kap did a nice job pointing that fact out. People will tell you that money doesn't matter, just do what you love. But I've found that to be misleading. You have to have enough money to pay the bills and have fun occasionally, otherwise you aren't going to be happy no matter what job you are doing if you are in debt up to your ears. You just need to find a nice balance, and 2 of your 3 choices seem to be financially stable choices, while the other might be a tough choice. Here's how I would look at your choices, just my opinion... Medical: hard work, lots of school, lots of money Engineering: hard work, decent amount of schooling, nice amount of money Sports: less work, decent amount of schooling, less money, happier? Its a tough choice to make, again in my opinion, I would go through degree plan of the majors at whatever school you choose and find similar basics classes that all of your possible degree plans need. Take those first, then you are buying yourself more time to make your decision and won't fall behind in classes.

Blue-chip recruit Rush visits Indiana
Palehosefan replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The problem with Cem Dinc is that he wants to play on his national team and their team likely won't end play until September. UNC admissions wouldn't let him in that late, but Indiana gave him the clearance. Either way, it looks like he's headed to Indiana and should be a nice pick-up, though I'm not sure anyone on IU or UNC coaching staff has ever seen him play. -

Duke's team is actually ridiculously loaded this year. The scary thing is that Duke's best player could be freshmen Josh McRoberts. He's basically a taller, better shooting David Lee. Sean Dockery will be solid at the piont and if he falters, freshmen Greg Paulus is waiting in the wings with an amazing passing ability, he can't defend worth a crap, but he can run and pass with the best of them. As for UConn, they are having major, major PG problems, and I think that knocks them from the elite. I agree with Villanova and Texas being the other elite teams in basketball. One thing is for sure, the ACC is going to be majorly down this year outside of Duke. Miami could actually suprise people and get a top 3 finish in the ACC. -

Blue-chip recruit Rush visits Indiana
Palehosefan replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm just going by what Brandon said in the past. Which is... "Rush has said he had the grades and test scores to qualify for a scholarship. " according to a Scout article recently about his visit to Kansas which is taking place today. Most of the time, if a recruit is good enough, somebody will take him in and find a way to qualify him. Thats why I doubt the academics excuse. -

I'm not doubting that, I was just pointing out OU's past academic admissions. I would bet OU had another reason for the change in recruitment of Rush. Maybe he lost interest in their program, or maybe demanded playing time that Sampson wouldn't give, and academics was an easy excuse to stop recruiting him. -
UT is a very confusing school. They claim to want academic superiority, yet they allow anyone in USA into the basketball program, and their football standards aren't anything more than average. Its almost like they wanted to be in with schools such as Stanford, just so it would look good on paper, yet they hoped everyone would overlook the actual student athletes that were being admitted. This also partially comes from UT and A&M's reluctance to give up their past state's dominance. Pretty much the entire state was formed by UT or A&M grads, and now that the state is becoming more diverse in graduates in high places, its frustrating them.
