Blue-chip recruit Rush visits Indiana
Palehosefan replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Actually, Oklahoma's academice standards in basketball are about as low as it can get. They get in atleast one Juco every year, and this year isn't over. I've actually heard good things about Rush and the Illini. Just as long as Weber knows he's a 1 and done kid without any chance of a sophomore season. Rush likes the scoring oppurtunities and has formed a bond with Dee Brown. -
I know we have talked about him before on this board, but I hadn't seen film of him since his freshmen year, but here is his sophomore film. Needless to say, I wasn't dissapointed... He recently moved to North Texas to, I might have to make a drive and watch him play. http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=Noel%20...0Remix%20LowRes

With Indian Mascots going...
Palehosefan replied to knightni's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm pretty sure that article was written in sarcasm because of the Indian ruling. I think unfortunately most missed that. -
Not that I'm supporting this but... you can copy and past Flash by using the print screen button and making an image out of it. But copying anyone's paid material can get Soxtalk in big trouble.

Official College Football Thread

UNC gets to play 9 of the top 31 teams in the nation, another fun schedule year. ACC is up for grabs with alot of new QB's starting for teams such as Miami, FSU, and VT. Alot of people are expecting VT to have the same success as the ACC Championship year they had last year, but I just don't see it. Losing Bryan Randall hurts more than they realize, even with another Vick starting. This could be the year that teams like Clemson and Virginia really step up, as they have the two most experienced QB's in the league. One thing is for sure, the ACC is loaded with RB's. As for outside the ACC, I'm really looking forward to seeing what A) Cody Hodges can do as the QB at TTU, B) Vince Young can do at UT, C) if Ferentz can keep proving he's an elite coach, D) if ANYONE can touch USC. -
Seriously? I didn't even think of that.

Jason is either saying that JR could be a player again once the rust is off, or that he thinks JR is tasty if you skin him. I'm not quite sure.

Thats another thing thats doubtful. 4 of UNC's top recruits were kicked out of the program for using pot. That was 4 4 star recruits that helped make up a top 20 class in the nation. They have very strict testing and don't show any favor to "star" players. UNC lost Adarius Bowman who was a top 10 receiver in his class, Puff Thomas who was a top 15 DT in the same class, Terry Hunter who was a top 25 DE, and Fred Sparkman who was a top 25 LB in the same class. Listen, I'm not saying you are lying, I just know of facts that refute what you are saying. I don't doubt that Julius has smoked pot, as I would say over 50% of college athletes probably have unfortunately. I do know that there were never EVER any rumors of anything more with Julius. Rumors like that get out pretty easily, just 2 years ago rumors were abound that Jeff Smoker was a big cocaine addict. Also, the message board that has the info is far from afraid to report the truth. They reported all the time that Julius was lazy at UNC and that Jaworski Pollack a UNC receiver slept with a teammates girlfriend and the former teammate caught them together and beat the crap out of Jawarski, yet the teammate was kicked off the team and nothing happened to Jawarski. Lots of crap has happened in the program, but nothing has ever even been insinuated about Julius. Thats why I'm such a big fan. I'll be the first to hate on Julius if he is indeed found to have used steroids. I defended Marion Jones to "The Cheat" on the board for the longest time, but now I see its kind of "funny" that Marion can't run for crap now after the allegations came out. But its been the opposite with Julius, he's actually become a much better player and even a better athlete AFTER the allegations and the increased testing occured on him. -

lmao, mind naming who the person was? Its widely known that Julius was in bad shape at UNC and didn't start getting into shape until his 2nd year on the Panthers. He couldn't even bench press 300 pounds when he left UNC because he never cared for the weight room ala Vince Carter. It wasn't steroids either that Julius was suspended for, it was... "Peppers tested positive for phentermine, which is found in a prescription diet pill. " Here's another quote. "SPARTANBURG, S.C. — He’s bigger. He’s stronger. And he’s got a gigantic chip on his shoulder. That’s not good news for opposing right tackles in the NFL. Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers, the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2002, spent three-quarters of last season proving to critics he was worthy of being the No. 2 player selected in the NFL draft. He did that with 12 sacks in as many games. But a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy against anabolic steroids and related substances has left a sour taste in Peppers’ mouth. While all Peppers did was take a dietary supplement that contained a banned substance, believed to be a derivative of ephedra, he now has it in his head that others think his impressive rookie season was tainted. He may be paranoid. Or, he may be simply looking for something to fire him up. Either way, if the suspension serves as motivation for Peppers, nobody is about to tell him anything different. “It doesn’t have to be said, but I know it’s out there,” Peppers said. “It’s like there was an asterisk by my numbers, like I couldn’t do that on my own. I want to get to 12 sacks, and more, this season to prove people wrong.” Peppers used the suspension as motivation during the offseason, spending the better part of the spring in the weight room, getting physically bigger and stronger in the upper body. " Julius' teammates knew he was just getting by with his amazing athleticism at the college level. He used that athleticism to get a top 6 pick in the draft, while his teammate Ryan Sims busted his ass in the weightroom to rain the same honors in the draft. Julius has been a freak since HS when he was 6'6 240 pounds running a 4.6 and has a vertical of 42 inches. He had no need for steroids, and hasn't ever been accused of using them. AFTER the suspension, Julius was motivated even more and improved his bench press to 450 pounds and added enough weight to become 6'6 305 pounds while running a 4.54 40 and still kept his 40+ inch vertical. Forget Jevon Kearse, Peppers is the true athletic freak of the NFL. Take a look at this article. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp..._len&id=2121484 -
I would tend to agree, except that baseball is his job. He's paid to do research on players and write and speak about them. Most of us only follow baseball as a hobby, its more than that for him. Everyone is human and will make mistakes I understand, but throwing tidbits like that out there without obviously knowing it for a fact is a bit odd.

I knew you would especially enjoy it :-), it was made just for you. It was actually made more in mind for football as odd as it sounds. I'm getting real excited about college football season.

At the time, Borchard was thought of as a 5 tool player with "light tower" power. I saw the game where he actually hit the light tower, it was an amazing shot. But I also noticed in the game that his "amazing" arm was overrated. From BA, he was rated as the best college prospect, and only fell to 12 because of his signing bonus demands as a football prospect also. I will admit, I was VERY excited when we drafted him, I followed the drafts really close back then, and at the time nobody was really worried about his swing. But as time went on, and as he rose in levels, the swing flaw became more and more apparent. At the time, some scouts were saying Borchard had the most power coming out of college since Mark McGwire. Chase Utley was a real good prospect at the time also, but we were in need of OF prospects, and Utley's power wasn't on the same level as Borchards at the time. Also, scouts wondered if Utley could play 2B well enough to stay at the position, alot of scouts thought eventually he would end up in LF or at 3B or would end up as a Todd Walker type 2B with little D. Basically, it was thought to be a great pick at the time and everyone gave us props for it. It wasn't questionable at the time like say Royce Ring's pick.

Reebok-adidas merger a blockbuster
Palehosefan replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I just wanted to take this chance to say, f*** YOU SONNY VACARO. Ok, I feel much better now :-). Doesn't have much to do with the deal other than him being the pres of Adidas, but I just hate the man. He's a complete slimeball. -
Wayne actually measured in at the pre-draft camp at a legit 6'9 258 pounds. He's also very strong and explosive in the post. He doesn't have many post moves, but he's tenacious and has a great frame. He could atleast fill in for 5-10 minutes of need be down low for Shaq. But hopefully he will get to play beside Shaq more often than in his place.
-
Don't forget Wayne Simien in there also. I could see him playing some center in the East in a pinch if Zo doesn't make it back. Dorell Wright also might start to contribute a little in a pinch, but he's still only 19 years old. I also like the Emmett acquisition, he's very experienced from college and yet is still only 22 years old. I'm not expecting much from Dorell or Andre though, except practice minutes. I think it would be pretty interesting to see who would gain the starting job if Damon Jones makes it back also. He shoots much, much better from outside than Jason does, and he's become best friends with Shaq already. I could see some trouble brewing there with Jason, and the Heat might have to find additional suitors. Then again, Damon could sign elsewhere and it all be for not. Needless to say, I'm excited about this trade :-).

Just needed a place to upload this, I'm sure Illini fans will be pleased :-).

Good trade for the Rangers. Didn't improve by acquiring Nevin really, but did improve by getting rid of that horrendous pitcher/contract in Chan Ho. Now they just have to find a suitor for Soriano and get a good starter in return somewhere before the deadline.

Should help Carolina even more, nice deal as long as its not a 1st or 2nd round choice. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?id=2118132 -
I saw a show on Discovery about the sky city about a year ago, that thing would be amazing to see and actually sounds plausible. I guess if you are in Japan etc and are running out of space, there's nowhere to go but up or down.

Official NFL Season Predictions
Palehosefan replied to White Sox Josh's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I still think Dallas' QB situation will keep them out of the playoffs and they will end up around 7-9/8-8. I also believe that the Ravens and the Patriots will be the class of the AFC. The Steelers have a chance to join them if Ben can duplicate his rookie season, which isn't out of line to ask for. As for the NFC, I think too many people are overlooking Carolina. They were an average team even with an amazing amount of injuries. Just getting Kris Jenkins, Steve Smith and Stephen Davis back will be a huge boost. Not to mention Keary Colbert's emergence at WR to compliment Smith and Ricky Proehl. Taylor Stubblefield has a perfect situation to learn under Ricky. Freddie Jones was a great pick-up at the TE position to help take some slack off of losing Muhammed. The defense will be extremely fast with Morgan, Thomas Davis, Julius and company roaming the field. I also LOVE the pick-up of Ken Lucas. Heck even the backups have tons of speed, Isaac Hilton is a freak of nature as a backup DE. -

Williams Set to Play Two Years After Crash

He did the Mickey D's All Star game and it was horrendous. Every other word was hype about Greg Paulus or Josh McRoberts. Whether he was comparing Paulus to Pete Maravich or talking about how great the Duke tradition continues to be. He makes Hawk look impartial. -

Anything that will keep him out of the announcing booth is fine with me.
