  1. Its Duke. http://www.pjstar.com/stories/051705/ILL_B6EO6BEQ.083.shtml He will have an enjoyable time watching Pocious play for 2-3 years from the bench.

Man, thats awesome. When I get pissed off and throw my controller, it will come right back to me.
  4. I gotta agree with GHC. Even with what he did for baseball in 61, his stats are still woefully short of being considered. Maybe if he had over 1,000 rbi's, over 300 hr's, over 2,000 hits, and an average closer to .280 than at .260 he would get alot of votes. But he stands at 275 homers, 1,325 hits, 851 rbi's, and a career .260 average.
  5. Tell that to Mickey D's AA's Ricky Price, Casey Sanders, Sean Dockery, Taymon Domzalski, Nate James, Cherokee Parks, Shavlik Randolph, and even to a lesser extent Chris Duhon. Chris never came close to living up to his hype coming into Duke. He was a Mickey D's AA that dominated the 3 point shooting contest and played very well in the game leading Dick Vitale to utter "Jason Williams and Chris Duhon are the greatest backcourt in college history". The recent Illini elite recruits that I can remember are Brian Cook, Deron Williams, and Dee Brown. They are all doing nicely right now. When you get the top recruiting class in the nation every other year, then you better be producing at a higher level than they are.
  6. I wouldn't be suprised if that happened either. But even without Scheyer, the Illini are still looking very good for Sherron Collins. He would be a very nice pick-up. Scout has him as the 2nd best PG in the entire class behind on Tywon Lawson who just committed to UNC. Thats a heck of a compliment because this is going to be an amazing class.
  7. Not to poo-poo on it but he's 23 and in low A ball. But with that said, its hard to complain when one of our draftees puts up very good numbers. Will be interesting to see if he moves up anytime soon.
  8. Just my opinion but I would be very suprised if Jenks doesn't move up in the system atleat to Charlotte if he can keep his walks to around a .5 to 1 IP ratio he's at now. He's already 24 years old and has electric stuff. This probably won't play much of a factor in it but again in my opinion Birmingham is much more of a college town than Charlotte. Therefore there is more trouble to get into with drinking etc, Charlotte COULD be safer for him. I'm gonna go way out on a limb and say that I wouldn't be suprised to see him as a september callup if things go as planned. He could be a great arm to have in the pen. There's not any trouble to be had in Chicago is there?
  9. Don't be so sure. There is another prospect named Gerald Henderson that is making his decision on wednesday. Its widely speculated that he is choosing Duke also. That COULD have an effect on Scheyer. There have also been rumors that coach K asked Scheyer to hold off on his decision to not scare Henderson away. Kind of odd that Scheyer's p.c. is one day ahead of Henderson's though if that were the case. Things are looking like its Duke though I will admit. It would be a breakthrough recruit for Weber if he chooses the Illini though. Scheyer should be worried about playing time at Duke with Pocious already at SG and Henderson locking up the SF spot when he arrives. Don't ever count out Duke with white top 25 players, nothing racist here, its just like a magnet. It never works out for the player either.
  10. I have quite a few, so you can use whatever you want. "Did you ever get a chance to rub Howard's Rock?" For those that don't know, 1. thats not a nasty question 2. its a rock that the football team rubs before each game as they run down a hill, supposed to have mystical powers. "I see that you grew up in Roanoke, VA. Whats it like growing up in a town with so much athletic history? Lots of great athletes come from that area as you already know I'm sure." "Where did the nickname "Lump" come from? Also, have you ever thought about throwing a pitch right handed in the middle of a game since you are ambidextrious or amphibious as Yogi would say. I'm not even sure if its legal :-). " Chris, Lubbock, TX
  11. When we signed Heath all the scouts were comparing him to Mark. Now I see it fits pretty well. Heath hasn't blown through the system like Mark did, but he's doing well for himself also.
  12. A picture was apparently taken after one of the infamous races...
  13. Man, I hope Brandon isn't going through a dead arm stage. I know its too early to really worry about him, but getting roughed up in 2 straight starts just isn't like him.
  14. Also he has to keep out of trouble. IF he can keep his head in the game and stay injury free, then you will definitely see him in the majors.
  15. Most of the years I've followed the draft which is probably only since around 1999, we have taken the player/pitcher everyone thought we would. Most of the time its been the player that was thought to be the best value at the pick. The year I didn't listen to the draft, we drafted Royce Ring. I learned my lesson :-P. I expect us to do the same this year, someone will fall to us that is very talented and I'm sure it will be our pick. I just don't expect it to be a Boras pick, even though we do have more money possibly to sign a 1st round pick. We seemed to have been really phased by the Borchard huge signing bonus and flop, I don't see us taking a chance again for a few years atleast. Also if you think about it, it could end up being a disastrous draft if we draft a Boras client that doesn't sign and we end up with no picks until 105 or whatever our 3rd round pick will be. I'm expecting us to sign a talented yet signable 1st round pick and spend the possible extra money on either a 3-4-5 round pick that slipped through, or a draft-and-follow player or two leading up to the draft.
  16. Chad Cordero was also a 1st round closer I believe, he's pitching very well right now for the Nationals. Ryan Wagner also for Cincinatti and he's doing decent so far. I have to admit I was very unhappy when we drafted Royce Ring in the 1st round. I think its a waste to draft a closer in the 1st round unless his stuff is just amazing. I would rather draft a few high school pitchers later on with decent stuff and convert them later on to closer. I would rather trade for a guy with a good arm and let him become a closer, or convert someone we already have. Thats how alot of the good closers in MLB were found, they just had good arms and tried their hand at closing and it worked. If I'm drafting a college player in the 1st round, I'm looking for a guy who's pretty close to MLB ready, otherwise I'm drafting a high school guy with talent and potential over the college guy with talent and potential. I don't really like it when teams draft college pitchers that have good stuff but put up bad numbers in college, guys like Wyatt Allen etc. I watched him pitch in college a few games and he always had 93-94mph stuff, yet couldn't find the plate. By the time the college guy realizes his potential, he might be 26-27 years old and not even in our system or in baseball anymore. Alot of teams always want to feel like they can be the team to "fix" the pitcher, and usually end up failing.
  17. Everyone's favorite Shavlik Randolph is now rumored to be leaving Duke. He's gonna put his name into the draft knowing he will be playing overseas. He still doesn't care as he has hated being at Duke for 3 years now. Somehow he missed the memo that coach K cusses like a sailor.
  18. I told you guys Wade was a good defender. This now proves it.
  19. I think we need catching and shortstops also. However, we don't seem to like draft catchers in the 1st round. Mark Johnson is the last one I can remember. back in 1994. The last SS we drafted in the 1st round was Jason Dallaero in 1997. So its gonna be a change if we draft either one. I think we will end up with someone like Brandon Snyder who happens to play both positions and is excellent defensively at both positions. From BA, "Brandon Snyder, c/ss, Westfield HS, Centreville, Va. He can hit and he’s one of the few players who is equally proficient behind plate, in middle infield"
  20. The simple fact that Onterrio was once kicked off the Tennessee football team should tell you something. You pretty much have to commit murder to be off the Vol's team.
  21. Yeah I'm not worried about him at all. Crap happens, I'm mainly suprised with the 3 walks in 5 innings for him. Thats pretty unheard of from him.
  22. McCarthy 5 IP 8 hits, 5 ER, 3 BB, 7 K's. Thats the worst line I've seen from Brandon. I'm sure he will bounce back. But his era is shockingly over 4 now. Bajenaru another scoreless inning with a K. Brian Anderon 2-4, ho-hum :-).
  23. lol dang TRU, I thought I have been all over Texas. You apparently found some place that I've never been to. I've never seen people who hate the North and think the South won, lol thats hilarious. Anyways, I'm 21 from Amarillo, Texas, and now living in Lubbock, Texas. I've lived in SoCal for a few summers also.
  24. Thanks, I didn't think of that :headshake
