Yep Rowand they definitely have problems getting through screens, I think it has to do with communication. They have great athleticism and some great on-ball defenders like Felton and Manual, but they still don't communicate. I don't want to call them dumb, just not equipped well with basketball IQ unlike normal Roy recruits. I understand your point Rowand that Duke doesn't have the depth of talent they usually have. But they have Shav(#1 recruit in his class), Shelden(top 10 in class), Ewing(top 20), Redick(top 15), Nelson(top 15), Dockery(top 25), and even Melchionni, and McClure were top 70 recruits. I certainly don't think they have any less talent than probably 20 of the top 25 teams in the poll's. Depth is a problem though compared to the past.

Its such a miraculous job coach K is doing with this team that has no talent. I mean, only 6 Mickey D's AA's on the team? Poor poor K.

Whoever said there was some time on the clock left when the ball went out of bounds was right. http://www.secret.cc/terps/timeonclock.jpg Not that it matters, fouling and free throws would have probably ended it, but interesting none the less. There was also 5 seconds that ticked off the clock after Dockery was called for travel. http://www.secret.cc/terps/travel1.jpg http://www.secret.cc/terps/travel2.jpg All in all, the refs were more than fair, timekeeping was off, but it likely wouldn't have mattered much. But that 6.9 seconds gone overall could have help, we will never know.

I was going to post on this. But how do you argue with ignorance and apparent racism? McCants should be in prison because he scowls alot huh? I guess its fine that Shelden Williams raped a girl and JJ Redick is a pothead though right? I don't want to spoil your ignorance, but you might want to read this article. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writ...1117/index.html

Yeah Zoom thats Jawad's thing, he plays extremely well to begin the season but when ACC play begins, he absolutely dissapears. Happens every year. I can't believe how upset I got over that game, I feel retarded now. Thats what the rivalry does to me unfortunately. I know things will be ok, it just kills me that we played so poorly and still had a good shot at winning, and couldn't even get a shot off. I was very impressed with Demarcus Nelson, the early comparison's to McCants aren't far off. -

Not to mention UNC had 10 assists, 11 behind their average, and 23 turnovers. 9 from Mr. TO himself Felton. So much potential with him, just can't seem to step up to the next level and dominate like he could. -

Outside of Sean May, it was just a collective choke. Many, many, problems. Rashad shot horribly, Felton played terribly, Marvin choked on the line, Jawad Williams didn't show up, what the HELL was David freaking Noel in the game for for the last shot. All of Duke's baskets outside of a layup by Nelson were 3 point field goals, ALL of them. No reason UNC should have even been in this game, but they choked it away anyways. Its gonna be tough for me to give a damn about colllege basketball for a while now. -

Thank you motherf***ing Felton. 9 God Damn turnovers in the most important game of the season. The look Rashad and Ray had at the end of the game was awesome, I hope they never get over that and become bitter the rest of their motherf***ing lives. Both decided to choke in the same game. Without Sean May's monster game, this would have been ugly. -
How exactly do you have more heart than someone? Normally I consider players with more heart when they play injured. Who exactly on Duke has done that so much more than UNC has? Duke might win, because they are a good team and at home. But not because they have more heart. I expect it to be a close game and UNC wins by about 2. Felton vs. improved Dockery McCants vs. Ewing (both arguably the best players for their respective teams) Manual vs. Redick (Redick has been kind of hot lately, but Manual is the best wing defender in the ACC) Marv/Jawad Williams vs. Shav (which Shav will show up? Will he get lots of flops with Marvin's agressiveness in the post?) Sean May vs. Shelden (will the more muscular version of May this year be able to stop Williams?) I see Duke slowing the game down, and the game being in the high 70's instead of the 90's where UNC likes it. Its not good that I had a chicken enchilada stuffed burrito for dinner, with my nerves for this game, I might be in the bathroom more than by the tv..

I don't know who Kevin Blackistone is, but lets do a comparison, shall we? KU: Miles, Gidden, Langford. Combine for 34.1 ppg, 11.4 apg, 11.9 rpg Illin: Williams, Brown, Head. Combine for 41.9 ppg, 15.4 apg, 10.3 rpg KU the best? Yeah sure... -
Does Mel Kiper Jr. have a clue?
Palehosefan replied to VenomSox's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
He has the Bears taking Braylon Edwards of Michigan, said Edwards has the size, speed to dominate and he significantly cut down on the dropped balls/mental lapses this year. He still has Derrick Johnson too low at 12 going to the Chargers. He has my sleeper Troy Williamson WR up to 13 now. Has Antrelle Rolle all the way down at 20 to the Cowboys Has my Steelers taking Heath Miller the TE at 30. Has Channing Crowder amazingly as the LAST pick in the 1st round. -
LMAO, I was racing to this thread to post GHC's exact reply.

Yep Zoom thats part of the reason. I realized he's not gonna get as many foul calls on him as Ewing, Dockery, etc. But to not even get a foul called on you once a game is just crazy. Especially when you consider the fact he leads the ACC in minutes played a game. He has 20 steals on the season and 17 fouls called. Compare that to his teammate Daniel Ewing who is a very nice defender and 3rd in the ACC in steals, Ewing averages 2.2 steals a game and 3.1 fouls a game. Jamont Gordon from VT leads the ACC with 2.61 steals a game, but 2.9 fouls a game. I just don't think I have ever seen a player that averaged more steals than fouls, especially one that plays 36+ mpg. I'm just amazed at what he gets away with on the court, that even his teammates like Ewing don't. Watch Redick's patented "forearm shiver" that magically leaves him open for 3 everytime. He actually got it called for a foul in the GT game, I was absolutely shocked. -
The Bulls have alot of talent even though its inexperienced talent. Just from one game of observation, it looked to me like the Bulls rely too much on 1 on 1 basketball. Almost every time down the floor for an extended period it was either Kirk Heinrich dribbling down and jacking up a shot, or it was Ben Gordon. Both guys can shoot, but I think they would be better off coming into set offenses and getting open shots off of screens. It looks to me like the Bulls are built for an up-tempo style, they just didn't have much of a half-court set offense.
-
That was one ugly, ugly half for both teams. About as un-exciting game as I have seen in a while. I'm suprised at the job Heinrich is doing on Wade, I haven't seen anyone do any better on him. I still have no idea how my Heat scored 51 in the half, that was just horrible.

I just saw a hilarious stat. JJ Redick leads the nation in least fouls per minutes played. Apparently he gets a foul called on him once every 41 minutes of play. That leads the nation by a wide margin. Compare that to the rest of the ACC guards, even on his team, like Ewing, McCants, Paul, Gray all average 1 foul for about every 9 minutes of play. Does anyone else find that odd that a guy can play in an aggressive man-to-man defense that Duke plays and foul ONCE not even every game? -

MLB: 120 million dollar salary cap with a 40 cellar. Also trading of draft picks in rounds 1-5 only, otherwise it could be a mess. NBA: No age rule because that would push alot of kids that have NO interest in academics to other pro leagues until the reach 20 or whatever the age is. Instead I would offer the ability to return to school if you are drafted in the 2nd round, you just have to repay ALL debts to an agent. This would allow alot of the kids like Ousmanne Cisse etc who got horrible information that ruined their careers to return and have another chance. NHL: I don't know alot about hockey. But, I had an idea of creating a world league. Leave like 16 teams from the NHL from Canada and US, and have like 16 teams from all over the world. I know that would be a hell of a travel expense. But it would get rid of alot of the markets that the NHL just doesn't belong in and would allow alot of these players to play at home more often. You could break up the schedule into parts of the world so you wouldn't travel from Russia to Toronto, to Sweden. You could have the North American part of your schedule for a while, then go overseas for a portion. Yeah I know its nuts, sue me. NFL: not much I would change at all. Ice Skating: get rid of it -
Emmitt Smith ready to call it quits
Palehosefan replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yeah I'm just not sure about LT, he's 2 years older than Portis and only has 1500 more rushing yards. It will be interesting to see who can stay healthy. -
Emmitt Smith ready to call it quits
Palehosefan replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm not gonna get into the argument here. Just state my opinion on the greats. Here is my list. 1. Jim Brown 2. Barry Sanders 3. Walter Payton 4. Emmit Smith 5. Curtis Martin Jerome Bettis is the top power back of all time over Earl. Edgerrin James has a decent shot at Emmit. Clinton Portis has alot of yards to go, but he's very young at 23 and already has 4400 yards rushing. If Clinton stays healthy, he could break the record. Say he plays for 11 more seasons and retires at 34-35. He would need to average 1260+ a season which isn't unreasonable, but health is always the biggest problem, if he misses any significant time he's gonna be behind alot. -

NFL Single Team Mock Offseason
Palehosefan replied to T R U's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
He's certainly a headcase. But he has so much talent. If he could ever develop a work ethic he would be nearly unstoppable. The Steelers could really use a deep threat with speed to compliment Hines great routes and Randle El's quickness though and might be forced to go that route in the 1st if Plax is gone.
