Thats VERY arguable in itself. Especially when it doesn't even matter how tough of a schedule a player plays against in college. How good of competition do you think Jimmy Smith, Larry Allen, Dwyane Carswell, Shannon Sharpe, Darren Sharper, Jason Taylor, Yancey Thigpen, Hollis Thomas, Charles Tillman, Adam Timmerman etc played against? There's always talent everywhere in college, whether its Jake Delhomme at Louisiana-Lafeyette, or Brett Favre from Southern Mississippi, or Jeff Garcia from San Jose State, Jon Kitna at Central Washington, JP Losman and Shaun King at Tulane, Steve McNair at Alcorn State, or Kurt Warner from Northern Iowa, there is alot of hidden talent to be had, even at the QB position.

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP POLL

Jeez, it seems Alge Crumpler was the only Falcon that remembered there was a game today. -
Yep Noel has been a known commodity for over a year now. His film was just incredible. He will be one to watch as a senior and right now I can't see how their could be a player out there in any grade with better film and I've watched probably 25 football films in the past few days.

I would love to hear how Carnell is overrated. The guy rushed for 3831 yards and 45 td's in 42 games and averaged 5.2 yards a carry for his career while splitting time with Ronnie Brown. I can almost guarantee that Carnell will have a better 40 time and better quickness at the combines. But we will see. This is coming from someone that played against Benson in high school.

You guys need to run if I ever show up as a bag checker. 33% with 7 false alarms.

Alex Smith doesn't have nearly the size to be compared to Roethlisberger right now. They are both athletic QB's, I will give you that. As for Derrick as the number 1 player, I couldn't agree more. I thought I would be by myself in that thought. He's such an athletic specimen, but he's even smarter than he is athletic, the strip he made in the OU game I believe it was, was just awesome. I'm not as big of a fan of Antrelle Rolle at CB as you are. I'm not sure if he will end up as a CB or a safety in the NFL. I also think Erasmus Jones will still go ahead of Shaun Cody and is a better prospect even though I haven't seen all the hype about Erasmus as scouts are trying to say. But overall thats a great list.

WF sets a new NCAA record with 50 straight free throw makes. Unbelievable and FSU is hanging with WF on Von Wafer's unbelievable night with 25 in first half and 30 for the game. Von Wafer is a very good player, I picked him as frosh of the year over Deng 2 years ago, and he's FINALLY living up to that hype. -
Does Mel Kiper Jr. have a clue?
Palehosefan replied to VenomSox's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Mel knows his stuff about the players as well as anyone. What he doesnt know is the NFL teams choices for those positions. Generally his mock draft is about where the player SHOULD go, not where he really will go, its a glorified draft ranking made into a mock draft. There's no way of knowing right now who will focus on what exactly, outside of someone like San Fran and a QB etc. Like say the Steelers and a TE in the 1st round, the Steelers do need a TE, but they wouldn't take a TE that early, they just don't use them enough in the passing game. But Alex Smith is around the 30-35th ranked player in the draft etc. With that said, Pac Man Jones is too high, Derrick Johnson and Mike Williams are too low, and no way Justin Miller will be picked behind Bryant McFadden for CB's. -

ACC basketball is crazy. Pretty much anyone can beat anyone when they are playing at home. Well except for Clemson. -

"Duke winning their first title under Coach K" Wow, you are 7 or 8 when you went to your first final 4? Thats awesome. I'm 21 and still dying for my first final 4. That had to be scarring to see a giant rat on the sideline cheering though right ;-)? -
Every year we pick in the middle of the pack, 10-22 most of the time. Its a cycle I can't stand, but it shows we are competitive every year. The streak lives on...

Yep Jason nailed the Harrington situation pretty well. He hurt his baseball potential by holding out, and never did get anywhere close to what he wanted. Now he has to join the real world. As for Weaver, when I've seen him pitch, he has nice stuff, not anywhere near Prior type stuff like an agent wants us to believe. But he does have alot of deception and around a 91-93mph fastball. I don't think he will be an ace, but 2-3 starter looks good for him to me. Jason has seen him pitch more than the few times I have I'm sure.

Weaver should talk to Matt Harrington about not signing and skipping a year. That turned out real well for him...

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP POLL
Palehosefan replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
With the pass rush that the Eagles can bring with Kearse etc, you will likely see Vick on the run alot. I'm expecting big rush yardage from Vick, some passes thrown to Crumpler, and a nice victory for the Falcons. The Eagles defense does have speed, but I'm not sure its on the Bucs level when Brooks, Sapp, Rice etc were roaming the field. -
AFC CHAMPIONSHIP POLL

Not sure what you mean by that, if you are insinuating that Ben isn't a very good QB. But Ben struggled big time in his first playoff game as a 22 year old, its not the end of the world. Thankfully the Pitt D stepped up big time and didn't allow a TD. Now its time for Ben to step it up again and join the defense and running game that gave Pitt the win last week by their chins. Troy Polamalu is as good of a safety as their is in the NFL and has been on fire lately with interceptions and great play against the run. It will be interesting to see if he can get one from Brady also. Could come down to whether Teddy Bruski or Troy Polamalu make more plays for their defenses. Should be a great game, I can't wait. -
New England had some injuries in the Pitt game and so did Pittsburgh. It should be a great battle, it will be interesting to see how Ben comes out after struggling and having to face a brilliant defense.

There are lots of great college QB's that just can't cut it at the next level. Guys like Ken Dorsey, Josh Hypul(sp?), Jason White, and Danny Wuerfel just don't have the arm to cut it in the NFL. Sometimes if they are in the right system at the right time, they can hang onto the NFL and occasionally prosper. But for the the most part, they are just college QB's that have to fight for backup NFL jobs or move on in life. If you surround a QB with good accuracy with the type of talent at Miami's, Oklahoma's, Florida's etc, they of course they are going to look good and prosper. But in the NFL you have to make alot of throws that you aren't forced to make in college. Like deep outs etc. Chad Pennington doesn't have a strong arm compared to NFL QB's, but he has a rocket compared to Ken Dorsey etc. Even now Chad has problems throwing limp noodles. Thats why guys like Jeff George get 10, 11, 12 chances in the NFL compared to others. Thats also why Vinny Testeverde still has a job at 41 years old. I personally think Jason White will stick on in the NFL for some odd years as a nice backup. His knees and lack of athleticism could hold him back from a starting job. Then again, I believe Ken Dorsey actually got some starts for the 49'ers this year or last, so who knows.

Actually most of the time they were arguing over which team had the bigger salary cap.... j/k, I do have respect for Pitino. -
Ben choked big time in this game and they still pulled out a win. Defense was great as usual, with the scores coming off of an INT return for TD and a kickoff return for TD. It was Ben's first playoff game and he had all the pressure in the world on his shoulders. He should come out much better next week, unless its against the Patriots D. They are as smart as it gets on the defensive side.

Can't say I'm too dissapointed. UNC loses by 13 at WF when WF breaks the ACC all time FT record going 32-32. While Sean May and Felton have their worst games as Tar Heels. McCants, Manual, and Marvin Williams all have limited playing time due to "fouls". UNC will be ok, just sucks we can't have a rematch until ACC tourney time. -

Great stuff, UNC down 10 points with 14 fouls called on them in the first half. Including one from Rashad McCants where he got elbowed in the face, apparently his face attacked Strickland's elbow. I hate it when that happens. 3 fouls on McCants and Manual, 2 on Felton, May, Marvin Williams, and the lady eating popcorn behind the UNC bench. -
http://www.wagenschenke.ch/index2.htm I got him 58 meters safely.

Yeah I think so. They apparently finally gave up on him after he struggled at rookie leagues again. I just thought it was odd following his stats and "potential" for so long and then seeing him in class. He's one big guy.

Its really tough for me to bring myself to watch any NC State games, they are just horrible to watch. Also, lucky me, I'm stuck with watching Oklahoma State vs Iowa State instead of UNC-Wake Forest tomorrow. Who wants to watch two top 5 teams battle anyways Here is a nice article on comparing Illinois to UNC. http://illinois.scout.com/2/341710.html -
I just realized our former prospect Rylan Reed is in my history class at Texas Tech. I searched for a picture of him etc and found out alot of info I never knew he was battling with. So I thought I would post it. http://www.greatfallstribune.com/news/stor...rts/869394.html
