2004 College Football Trash Talk Thread
Palehosefan replied to The Bones's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Louisville-Boise State is going to be the best bowl game to watch outside of USC-OU. Louisville and Boise State have 2 of the best offenses in the history of college football by the numbers. Louisville has scored 50 or more points 5 straight games which is the NCAA record and Boise State has done it 4 straight games which is tied with the 2nd most in history. -
Here are the numbers he posted 2 years ago I believe. 6'2 260 pounds as a receiver, running a 4.3 40. He had private workouts with his "trainer" behind closed doors that nobody could see. Pretty obvious.

OU and USC are arquably the most talented teams in the nation, so it should be a fun matchup to watch. Auburn should share the title if they can take care of business in their own bowl game. Both OU and USC's offenses are ranked in the top 15 in the nation, and their defenses are both in the top 16. Scouts will be salivating watching the game. -

They could WHarris, its gonna be insanely close in the BCS standings, was only a .0013 difference to begin with, OU's huge win plus Cal's close game could change that margin, we will see. Neither school are hurting for money though, so I'm not gonna cry for either one. -

Well the 4 team would have beaten 2 of the 4 best teams in the nation, so I don't think people would be too displeased. -

A severely flawed system hasn't been presented by anyone yet. With 8 teams you would still have 2 extra games on the season, with teams in the SEC and Big 12 already getting 12 games in a season, 14-15 games would be too much. Unless you force teams to schedule 10 games at max in a season and the conference championship games are the 11th for some teams. Even then you would have 14 game seasons for some teams. Not to mention the bickering would still continue between the 8th and 9th place finishers about who gets left out. But an 8 team system has always been the best idea I have heard yet. Even a final 4 playoff would work, 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 then the winners play for the championship, only one extra game. I doubt 5 teams will end up undefeated and bicker over the 4th spot. But who knows. -

Well it is only a .0013 difference in Cal and Texas in the BCS and Cal's close game coupled with OU's blowout could send Texas schedule strength up enough to overtake them, that would be interesting. Get ready for a bunch of BCS complaing from every direction. -

Wilmington already has a loss at North Texas, and hasn't been the same since Brett Blizzard left. They weren't supposed to finish in the top 3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, so I'm not expecting much from them. Did you whip Brownell in the games? -

Illinois to get Zook per ESPN

Chris Leak is perfect for Urban's system and he's not going anywhere. Signing day isn't until February, so recruits are just commited at this point and are free to change their minds and follow any coach they want. I'm not shocked if some recruits follow Zook, the players and recruits absolutely love him. -

Rex, Feltons wrist is pretty bad, supposed to take 6 weeks to heal. Thankfully UNC doesn't play again until December 12 and its against Loyola(Illinois), then Virginia Tech on the 19th. So if need be, Felton could sit out until the 21st against Vermont, who is a good team. After Vermont UNC has a few more cupcakes that Felton could rest with in UNC-Wilmington, Cleveland State, and William & Mary on January 2nd. But Ray is hurting pretty bad and got it jammed again today, I think he will play through it as he's never missed a game outside of the NCAA suspension for the first game this year. -

If you call losing to UNC by 7 points "drubbing" UNC then I guess you have a point. -

Illinois and UNC would be the best matchup in college basketball right now. Both teams have awesome guards and just enough inside to dominate games. That would be a great matchup, maybe we will get to see it in the F4 or for the championship this year. -

Southern Miss up on Cal 7-0 and just forced Cal to turnover on downs. LOL, 6 guys drove 10 hours from Austin dressed in Texas Longhorns gear to cheer on USM. -

Thats true, didn't even think about it being the championship game. How crappy would that be? Colorado and Pitt in the BCS. I think OU will destroy CU by 35+ though. -

I bet OU would drop to 7 or 8 if they lost this late in the season. Texas would likely get in in their place. -

Rex I couldn't get the game on 616 or 617 either, I had to switch to basic cable and get it on CBS, thankfully they had UNC-UK on my feed, when normally I get the East Coast feed. As for UNC's defense, after the loss to SC without Felton, here is what UNC has done. Beat BYU by 36, beat Tenn by 13, beat Iowa by 14, beat USC by 32, Indiana by 7 at IU, and beat Kentucky by 13 points. UNC is allowing 71.5 ppg while scoring 91 a game, what more do you expect? When you are scoring 91 ppg against that schedule, you aren't gonna give up 50 points a game, Duke does that because Duke plays the Valporaiso's of the world. Kentucky shot 25 3's and made 40% of them while shooting 43% overall to UNC's 49%. If UNC isn't close to the best team in the nation, I'm terrified to see the best team. -

I'm rooting for Miami, so Bunting can get coach of the year, if VTech wins it all Beamer will get the award. Otherwise it will be a tight one between Beamer and Bunting. -

UNC defeats UK 91-78, UK put up a great efford. Rajon Rondo is going to be an absolute stud, looks pretty close to what Felton looked like as a freshmen, not quite as fast, but still going to be awesome. Rashad 28 points, Felton gutty effort with his bad wrist. -

I'm not getting local channels on my Directv, so I don't get the CBS feed, but they have channels 616-617 I believe are showing the game, so hopefully it will show up there. -

Rex the dumbest part about it is that I saw on my Directv that the UK-UNC game is being shown on CBS West Coast and Indiana-UConn is on the East Coast. It doesn't get anymore west coast than Chapel Hill, NC right? I'm gonna fly to CBS headquarters myself and take a giant crap on their desks if I can't see the UK-UNC game. I'm loading up on prunes tonight just in case, those bastards. -

UNC plays Kentucky tomorrow at 11 on CBS I believe for anyone that cares. Out of conference UNC has played or will play BYU, Tennessee, Iowa, USC, Indiana, Kentucky, Vermont, and UConn, while Duke's toughest opponents are Michigan State and Oklahoma, God I hate K. -
Urban going to Florida

Tuberville has a great program going at Auburn, but could still be peeved at Auburn trying to get Petrino as coach last offseason. I wouldn't expect Petrino to leave Louisville for ND though, again because of his academic freedoms that he enjoys at Louisville that ND wouldn't touch with a 10 foot stick. It could end up being very tough for ND to sign a top flight coach unless ND takes a softer stance on admissions. All the major coaches in college football enjoy the ability to plug-in JUCO's when they have holes on the team, Cal, USC, OU, etc all do it. -

Arkansas has some pretty good players on their team. Olu Famitini, Ronnie Brewer, Charles Thomas, and even Darian Townes were all very nice recruits. I wouldn't take that game for granted at all.
