I still don't expect the Panthers to make the playoffs, but they certainly haven't given up on the season even after all the horrible injuries. I'm amazed with Peppers play without having Jenkins beside him. Julius has 7 sacks in the last 4 weeks, he's finally turning into the player we knew he could be all along. Jake is a solid leader, not the best QB, but knows how to lead the team. Panthers have a bright future next year when everyone comes back from injury.

ss2k4, I agree, he had a Charles Barkley type game. Not quite the offensive skills, but same type of athlete and would have been solid at the PF position.
-
Julius Peppers has become the most dominant defensive lineman in the NFL. 9 sacks already, 2 INT's for 140+ return yards and a TD, ran down Michael Pittman on a 60 yard gain, and to top it off, blocked a field goal today. 6'6 290 pounds, 4.52 40, 40+ inch vertical, 450+ bench, just amazing.

Illinois fans, watch Chris Paul closely, he's a punk on the court. He's always throwing elbows and throwing tantrums on the court, especially when he thinks he was fouled. Not many have noticed it, maybe he will show it again. He's a great player that Matt FREAKING Doherty asked to walk-on at UNC, Paul was a huge UNC fan. Can you imagine Paul and Felton in the same backcourt, DAMN YOU DOHERTY. Ok done ranting. -

Its just awesome. We could end up with Colorado and Pittsburgh in the BCS, yipee. Not that I give CU much of a chance against OU. -

58-27 at half, I'm not impressed Illinois is definitely going to be a player. Great guard play these days can take you a long, long way. By the way, what the heck happened to all the shooters at Gonzaga. First Florida went away from it, and now it looks like Gonzaga is. I don't know why teams go away from what has worked for them. -
BCS Bids, Getting Closer, Utah!?
Palehosefan replied to Texsox's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
As much as I dislike Mack and the Longhorns, Texsox's point is one that not many pay attention to. How many teams in the nation can beat Stoops? He has his program at OU on a dominant level, similar to what Bowden at FSU had in the mid-late 90's when UNC fans whined because Mack would win every game except against FSU, now Texas and other fans do the same about OU. Mack has come close a few times to OU and will get a win against them in the near future, they are getting the top QB recruit in the nation next year and that will help, but losing Peterson to OU really hurt. OU has been getting the best of the best Texas players the past few years. The harder argument is whether Cal or Texas deserves the bid more, thats one I don't even want to attempt. -
Not many realize Edgerrin is also on pace for 1700+ yards this season. The offense is unstoppable. Defense can afford to gamble to try and force turnovers, since they aren't stopping anyone anytime soon.

ACC basketball question concerning ESPN
Palehosefan replied to Palehosefan's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I can see your point Rowand, JJ is a great outside shooter, the best in the nation though is questionable to me. I do think I have some room to complain. UNC received alot of bad pub and was largely ignored ever since the Doherty 2001 meltdown after being #1 for so long and then losing to Clemson. After that it was two bad years of basketball and alot of smack being talked about UNC. Everyone jumped off the bandwagon, including Vitale and the entire ESPN network outside of Stuart Scott. Every night they showed clips of UNC and how far they had fallen etc etc. I've heard ridiculous comments from ESPN for 5+ years now, including one this year that was just hilarious. They said several times that Duke dominated the ACC since the 80's, just hilarious. I've heard Jay Williams and Chris Duhon were the best backcourt in ACC history, I've heard all about coach K turning down the Lakers job and how great it was, yet they never mention Roy was offered the job before and turned it down without any second thought. I think alot of teams are ignored when they focus solely on the ACC and mainly Duke. I was watching the Duke-Princeton game last year, and they announcers had the audacity to say that these two teams had the type of student athlete that the NCAA needed. They neglected to mention Duke's basketball team was in the middle of the ACC SAT wise at around 1000 while Princeton's players are in the 1380-1500 range, even Duke's football standards are similar to the overall student population which is 1350+, Duke basketball is held on a much lower standard suprise suprise. Maryland's team actually had a higher SAT average than Duke, Sean Dockery made it into Duke with a 2.3 gpa and 15 ACT score. I know all ACC schools get some bad students into the program, just don't try to tell me Duke is above everyone. I'm not even gonna mention the fact that Corey Maggette played at Duke while he was a professional due to payments he received from AAU, yet the NCAA chooses to ignore this, suprise suprise. -

ACC basketball question concerning ESPN

Gladly. Marvin was guaranteed to be picked by the Sonics with the 13th pick in the draft this year. They scouted him alot as he played high school ball in Washington. But he turned it down to play at UNC and get an education. He is such a great kid, 3.8 gpa etc. Now for his game. He is 6'8 220 pounds, people tried to compare him to Luol Deng as a freshmen. But they just aren't the same type of players. Luol had a complete game, not the most athletic player, but could do it all just about. Marvin has similar size, but has better athleticism and much more tenacity. Marvin is the most aggressive player in the ACC, he attacks the basket and rebounds with amazing tenacity. He is skinny and could stand to gain some weight, but he can hit his FT's at a 80% clip, his outside shooting could use some work, but is servicable. He started out slow this year, but now has turned it loose and will likely average about 12 points 7 boards this year as the Heels 6th man spark off the bench. Oh and he LOVES to dunk on people out of nowhere, he did it to Dwight Howard and Josh Smith at the Mickey D's game, and will posterize some poor guy soon. He needs to gain some weight and work on his outside shooting. Has tons of potential, just not as complete as Luol Deng yet. -

JJ shoots 2.8 a game while McCants shoots 2.4, McCants doesn't need to shoot as many as JJ because of his all-around game. But I will admit JJ's form is as good as it gets. Just overrated as a shooter and player. -

Horner is a good one and has alot of range, but I don't know if his numbers compare. 123 made 3's at 37%. But he's on fire this year like McCants. -

ACC basketball question concerning ESPN
Palehosefan replied to Palehosefan's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Why? Redick has a worse percentage, and can't create his own shot without a screen. McCants has NBA range on his shots. I honestly would like to know why, not trying to be biased, just sick of the Duke bias. Believe me I understand the bias towards the ACC also. I can imagine how old it must get, especially from Vitale. -

Ok would these numbers change your mind? JJ Redick 197 3's at 39% for his career Rashad McCants 163 3's at 42% Every year in the ACC McCants has had a higher 3 point percentage than Redick, but do you ever hear about McCants shooting on ESPN? Rick Majerus actually had Redick as his best 3 point shooter in the entire country, among the list picked over McCants by Lavin and Majerus were McNamara, Steve Novak, Rashad Anderson, JR Giddens, and Travis Diener. I'm continually amazed by the Duke bias on the ESPN. -

I just wanted to ask a question to anyone who follows ACC basketball the slightest bit. When you think of the best 3 point shooter in the ACC, who do you think of? -
He's quietly putting up decent passing numbers also. He's gonna be scary to watch when the westcoast system finally clicks to him.

BCS Bids, Getting Closer, Utah!?
Palehosefan replied to Texsox's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Don't get me wrong, I love Boise State, they have a great offense and I even like the field. I just don't think they belong in place of either Cal, Texas, or Utah. -
BCS Bids, Getting Closer, Utah!?
Palehosefan replied to Texsox's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
If Cal gets bumped out without losing, then the BCS will have hell to pay. Cal has had a great season, losing only to the #1 team in the nation by 6 points and blowing the rest of the teams out. Boise State is such a joke in the top 10 of the BCS. Here is their schedule. Sep 4 vs Idaho W, 65-7 Sep 10 vs Oregon State W, 53-34 (solid team) Sep 18 at UTEP W, 47-31 (pretty good team) Sep 24 vs BYU W, 28-27 Oct 2 vs SMU W, 38-20 Oct 16 at Tulsa W, 45-42 Oct 23 vs Fresno State W, 33-16 (solid team) Oct 29 vs Hawaii W, 69-3 Nov 13 at San Jose State W, 56-49 Nov 20 vs Louisiana Tech W, 55-14 Nov 27 at Nevada 7:45 PM How can that possibly, POSSIBLY, warrant a BCS bowl? Almost any team in the top 25 could face that schedule and have a decent chance to be undefeated. I mean come on, they almost got beat by Tulsa, San Jose State, and BYU. -
Lebron is definitely not closer to 6'9 in my opinion, much closer to 6'7, he stood next to Rasheed during a game and Rasheed had atleast 3 inches on him and Rasheed has always been 6'11. But that doesn't really matter, 1 and a half inches doesn't mean much. "And worst case scenario, he has to guard an Iverson type, or a Dwayne Wade type (both of whom are more cut out for the SG position). Sylvester would have a better chance of catching Speedy Gonzalez, nahmean?" Ask yourself this, can ANYONE in the NBA stay in front of Wade and Iverson? I haven't found one yet, possibly Bruce Bowen, but I doubt it. Lebron's proportions aren't that of a big man, he is just like a bigger version of a SG, you would never know he weighed 240 pounds by looking at him. He still has the quickness and skills of a smaller SG, you don't have to be faster than SG's to guard them, just have the ability to slide in front of them and Lebron has that quickness. I don't see Vince Carter, Ray Allen, Kobe, Paul Pierce, etc having superior quickness to Lebron. Just my opinion.
